The manga series that inspired the card game that swept the globe!
Tenth-grader Yugi always had his head in some game—until he solved the Millennium Puzzle, an Egyptian artifact containing the spirit of a master gambler from the age of the pharoahs! Possessed by the puzzle, Yugi becomes Yu-Gi-Oh, the King of Games, and challenges evildoers to the Shadow Games…weird games with high stakes and high risks!
It’s Yugi and Kaiba vs. the Rare Hunters in a tag team match atop a 13-story skyscraper. But a fate worse than death awaits Yugi when he finds out Mai and Jonouchi have been possessed by Marik! Brainwashed by the evil mastermind, Jonouchi fights to kill his best friend. Will he succeed?
Takahashi (高橋和希) started as a mangaka in 1982. His first work was Tokiō no Tsuma (闘輝王の鷹), published in 1990. One of his earliest works was Tennenshokudanji Buray (天然色男児BURAY), which lasted for two volumes and was published from 1991 to 1992. Takahashi did not find success until 1996 when he created Yu-Gi-Oh!
This is probably one of my favorite books in the entire series: the cover is stunning, it made me cry twice, it had so many great moments that I ran out of tabs, it has more Bakura... It's still mostly just card games and screwing the rules and friendship speeches but I love those aspects too, sooo. Amazing book 5/5.
I loved this, although I did find that Kiba showed a subtlety good side even though his ego was still on display. I also liked the duel between Bakura and the Pharaoh was better done.
This was one of the hardest books in this series to get ahold of and I have absolutely no idea why. It was good, but it wasn’t let-me-scour-the-internet-and-book-stores-for-a-copy good…
I felt cheated out of the Joey and Yugi fight since there were so many illegal damage cards and not that serious. Thought it would be better. The writer did a good job setting up some emotion for this volume, that duel was emotional and meaningful, I really liked that. Can't wait to see where teh story goes.
So excited that Mai is back, she is still one of my favorites. Bakura is a great villain, that duel was crazy good. Rashid is also a great villain along with Malik. So many villains!
The top 8 players are all interesting and really powerful, it should make for a lot of cool duels. I love tournament storylines.
