Finally, something not catering to the cruise, luxury, retired, or families-with-children crowd. I liked that instead of being a catch-all guide, it was geared towards those seeking out a very specific type of experience. Inexpensive, hostel-forward, edgy, social, outdoors-y, etc. The tips on backpacking, health and safety, and the "Make Yourself Useful" chapters were especially enlightening.
The information was all useful stuff from a unique perspective but it's a shame that the language was a little irritating and bro-y, constantly making innuendoes and slightly misogynistic at times. Also, it's pretty bad form for a book that highlights multiculturalism to constantly be describing different ethnic foods as gross, imo. And nothing published in this century (that also boasts to be a revised and updated version, to boot) should be using the word oriental. And I caught several spelling/grammatical errors, which is annoying. But other than the fact that they should have maybe hired a sensitivity editor this was an enjoyable travel guide to read with some incredibly useful tips.
