IDENTITY UNKNOWN is one of the better romantic suspenses I've read recently. An unknown man washing up on shore, a female police officer desperate to protect him, and someone trying to kill him -- a twist on the tried and true woman on the run plot line, this read fresh.
I enjoyed getting to know Audrey and John aka Nathanial and finding out what and who was behind the attempted killings. I thought I had it figured out once but at the last minute there was a twist, and well, I was wrong.
Fans of romantic suspense will love IDENTITY UNKNOWN and want to read the others in this series even though they all stand alone. A great story.
Whoa! You'll need an oxygen mask and a defibrillator for this one! Action-packed and deliciously romantical. Nathaniel's struggle to try to figure out what kind of man he is gives the love story an alluring edge. And Audrey, intent on proving herself in a man's world, has absolutely no intention of falling for a stranger who doesn't remember anything before he opened his eyes and saw her bending over him. Sigh. Like I said, romantical. Of course, the author leads these two on a not-so-merry chase before she brings them together. Intriguing suspense kept my brain scrambling for answers and my heart racing as the situation turns decidedly lethal. Awesome stuff.
"Identity Unknown" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the fifth book in a series, but each novel can be read as a stand alone. There were plenty of gun fights as the people out to kill Nathanial were very determined. The continuous threat posed by the bad guys created suspense. However, there were a number of unrealistic details, like prying open elevator doors with one's bare hands and throwing with great precision a knife not designed for this.
The romance didn't work for me, especially as Nathanial and Audrey never learned to work as a team. I can accept that Nathanial, unable to remember any of his past, would become attached to a beautiful woman whom he knew he could trust since she's repeatedly saved his life. But Audrey? We're told repeatedly that Audrey has a deep-seated distrust of handsome, charming men. Yet she's immediately attracted to Nathanial's looks, charm, and tempting lips, and rarely remembers that, oh, yeah, she distrusts this.
We're also told repeatedly that she wants to be in control and has a chip on her shoulder about men who don't treat her as an equal as a cop. Well, Nathanial keeps knocking her to the ground to protect her rather than allowing her to do her job and protect him. She's touched that he instinctively wants to protect her. Personally, I'd be more impressed if he shot the bad guys instead of knocking her down. Anyway, based on Audrey's stated past and his actual actions, I didn't see why she would be attracted to him.
The characters occasionally prayed. There was no sex or bad language.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
I love it when I get a story in my hands, that pulls me in from the first page, and makes me forget everything else I was supposed to do while I'm flipping the pages as fast as I can. Identity Unknown was that to me, and I enjoyed every moment of it. The suspense and action are explosive in the story. The constant fear and danger in the air, lift the tension high, and the amnesia makes it so intense, it is nearly tangible. The fact that there are very few whom Audrey and Nathanial can trust tightens the bind in-between them. Audrey has a bit of a chip on her shoulder about being a female in the force, for a good reason. As the story unfolds, her power struggles with Nathanial turns nearly comical, they both see the humor in the situations, when it is appropriate. I liked them together, the connection was special, the attraction was evident, but most of all, they were able to share their faith in God together, praying together and for each other, relying on Him to guide and protect when facing the danger. The feelings between them were instantaneous and only grew as the time passed. The epilog making a perfect ending, giving more believability to the instant feelings they had. The secondary characters, many known from the previous books in the series, rest family, and friends, were likable and enjoyable. The unknown threat, the constant menace, the uneasiness of the amnesia, the delightful romance, with bits of humor, and lots of faith made this story delightful and entertaining, impossible to put down ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
Identity Unknown is a love inspired suspense by Terri Reed. It is one of the Northern Border Patrol books. It is set in Calico Bay, Maine and in Canada. Deputy Audrey Martin is on patrol in Calico Bay when she gets a call to check out something on the beach. When she arrives, she sees a masked man pulling another man back into the ocean. As she closes in on them, the masked man fires on her and then runs. She immediately radios it in and chases after the masked man. She loses him when he takes off in a black SUV. She turns her attention to the man now in the surf. He manages one word, “Betrayed”, before fainting again. He has no identification on him. She goes to the hospital later to check on him and he tells her she “looks like a Christmas ornament, Pretty and shiny”. Who is this man and why was he on the beach? Why was someone trying to kill him? These questions become more important when he finally wakes up only to have no memory. As Nathaniel tries to regain his memory, Audrey stays by his side to protect him from whomever keeps trying to kill him. Can they find the killer before these attempts work? Who wants him dead and why?
When a John Doe washes up on the shores of Calico Bay, no one knows who he is—including him. But one thing's instantly clear to deputy sheriff Audrey Martin: the man's marked for murder. Amnesia is a great slant on a mystery. It gives the character to be someone totally different than who they might normally be. Although I believe a person basically remains the same, their emotional baggage is gone. Characters are well rounded and interesting to read and see how they interact. The scenes are well done and vivid enough to bring the story to life for the readers. This is a great story that shows a reader to trust in God to guide them in all matters.
My rating of "Identity Unknown - Northern Border Patrol Book 5" is 4.75 out of 5 stars
So, ignoring that it's copaganda and all of the characters were cops of varying degrees (the love interest is the worst kind of cop IMHO-border patrol) it was... interesting.
The love interest washes up on a beach in the sleepy Maine town of Calico Bay (super cute, not going to lie) and it immediately goes into almost non-stop action. I have no idea how much time rhe story took place in. There was no concept of how much time was passing/had passed for the most part. And I feel like the town medic got kind of forgotten towards the end of the book, but that's not too big a deal, I guess.
It kept my interest when I was actually reading it. And I actually did kind of like the story and the characters. I did think the book was mildly predictable. If you like Christian love stories, then this might be for you. I found the Christian aspect a little irritating in that it felt like the romance wasn't able to naturally progress (like characters don't need to be having sex necessarily, but I was turning blue while reading it). I felt like it kinda went from 0 to maybe 30 to 100 real quick.
Overall, a harmless read that hopefully got me over my reading slump.

Another great, spine-tingling, breathless, edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense novel from Terri Reed! I really enjoy the Love Inspired Suspense books in general, have since my best friend introduced me to them, but I do admit to having some favorite authors. Terri Reed is one of them, and Identity Unknown is a new favorite of her books.
Identity Unknown was the perfect afternoon suspense read. Lots of action, danger, mystery, on both sides of the border, and of course, a great romance thread. I enjoyed every minute of this exciting book and could hardly put it down. I had fun trying to guess who the villain was, Terri Reed even managed to sidetrack me a bit which was great.
Whether you enjoy stories with a Christmas theme or just love romantic suspense you won't want to miss a second of the thrilling adventure in Identity Unknown.
(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Terri Reed weaves a tail of international drug smugglers. From a small town in Maine, police officer, Audrey strives to better her life and guard her town while a nearly deceased beached male body is discovered on her beach. Audrey and Nathaniel in Italy each other, and don’t know why, but they have a plethora of obstacles to overcome. One of which his amnesia. Terri weaves a story filled with past loves and losses to new beginnings. I always now know if Terry Reid wrote the book. I need to read it. Please jump jump in and find another favorite author.
Identity Unknown, book five in the Northern Border Patrol, was very good and possibly the best of the series! I liked the characters and the plot was so interesting. I loved learning, along with the MC, his memory and what happened that day.
The romance was great. A little quick, but not too bad. The suspense was superb and pretty much non-stop. I didn't guess the little twist in the end.
All in all, a great read. I really enjoyed it and recommend Identity Unknown.
*I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
He had no idea who he was or where he'd come from. He was wet and cold. People on the beach saw him but he could not respond to the attention. He would fall unconscious into the dark zone, he thought he was dying. A local police detective ran down the beach to respond to him. She thought he was dead, drowned; perhaps a local fisherman. After checking his vitals she found a heart beat, she screamed for an ambulance. Little did Audrey realize her world just changed. This is a good one!
This was an excellent book. The book starts out with Deputy sheriff Audrey Martin response to a call that someone washed up on the beach. When she gets there, someone was trying to put the body back in the ocean. As she runs to the scene, the bad guy runs away. The unknown person is alive, but has no idea who he is. He lost his memory. The person that is trying to kill him, has not given up yet. This was an intense book with action, suspense, and a love story in the making. Audrey and Nathanial slowly fall in love as they are running from bullets.
This is a very suspenseful story with multiple assassination attempts against Nathaniel. To further complicate matters, he has amnesia and doesn't know who to trust besides the woman who saved his life, Deputy Audrey Martin. As they try to find answers and his memory slowly returns, a connection grows between them. There were some surprising twists at the end as bad guy is finally revealed, and Audrey and Nathaniel get their HEA.
Audrey is a deputy sheriff in Casco Bay, Maine. She is called to the beach for a dead body call. When she gets there a man is trying to drag the body into the ocean. She intervenes and finds that the body is not dead, but he does have amnesia, and someone keeps trying to kill him. Can she discover who he is and protect him? As things become more complicated, she feels drawn to him. An intriguing read.
I enjoy several series these authors work on together. They read easily (although they could use a better copy editor) and the religion is part of the characters and not obnoxious. In this series especially the books have some character crossover, but can be read as standalone stories. Each is a complete story without cliffhangers.
Terri Reed does it again. Suspenseful, dramatic, hard to put down. Stand alone yet part of a series. Get it, read it and get the whole series. You won't regret it.
This is an excellent book. I never did figure out who the traitor was. There is not too much angst about the relationship. I thought the plot was believable. Excitement, danger, and suspense was seen through.
Great, quick read about a man who has amnesia that is washed up in the beach of a small Maine town. A deputy sheriff finds him, and thus the exciting adventure begins. Lots of bad guys are involved in the telling of this tale.
The Northern Border Patrol series was a personal favorite. Terri Reed did an amazing job of transporting me to the border, and showed a world where cooperation and love changed a lot of things!
