Echoes

Bronwen has had a troubled life and is a survivor of abuse who moves into a small village after her step-aunt passes away. She finds an idyllic cottage and pays her rent upfront for the year hoping to keep herself to herself. Fate has other plans as she is the topic of much curiosity in the small village and her presence is resented by Adam who lived in the Cottage before his father, Sir Richard rented it out to bring in money to help pay the bills generated by their Stately home. Adam doesn't know the financial crisis his father is in. Brown wen discovers shortly after moving in that the village seems to be haunted but what does the Spector of the young girl who appears to her want?
I absolutely loved reading this book. This supernatural historical murder mystery had me on the edge of my seat. The characters were wonderful, flawed and interesting and I loved the way the relationships developed. The historical aspect was tethered in real history but the characters fictitious.
I loved the way the author revealed segments of the mystery and I look forward to reading more from this author in future if possible.

Captivating book: grab if you like mystery, ghosts, history, fiction, and more... skillfully blending into a can't put down book. I loved how the story goes back & forth between the 1500s & present time and goes back and worth between several mini-stories within the story. Now do not panic and think this is a chaotic and confusing book with all these stories going on. It is not confusing at all. PJ Roscoe weaves magic with her words and it all is understandable, easy to follow, and leaves you wanting to read more into the heart of the book. So much so that I spent 4 nights reading past my bedtime as I did not want to put the book down.
I await the next book PJ Roscoe publishes as she spins an amazing tale across genres.
Did I mention this book would make a wonderful movie?
My only angst is the sleep I lost (but it was worth it!). Thanks PJ Roscoe.

Bronwen Moved in to a new cottage that the Kenward family owned something is haunting her and the only way to know why is to look into the family back hundreds of yrs. I liked this book very much I would read more from this author in the future.

Five-hundred years is a long time to hold a grudge, to live out a curse and hope that someone might finally come along to lift it, to allow death to take its proper course. But Bronwen doesn’t know anything about 500-year-old curses, reincarnation or anything like that. She does know about being cursed just for living and that’s what she’s hoping to escape by renting an isolated country cottage on a remote estate for a year. Escape! That’s all she wants to do. Evil will not let her alone, though, at least not until the curse is revealed, believed and sorted out and, throughout it all, the young woman must learn the history of the place, the 500-year-old history that dates back to the invasion of Henry Tudor and the death of the ruthless King Richard.
‘Echoes’ is definitely a powerful twist on an historic novel. Author PJ Roscoe has created an almost horrific tale, set in the present day that includes ghosts, hauntings, reincarnation, flashbacks to another time and a curse that binds and kills both in the past and the present. Sound confusing? It could be and, for many of the characters in this novel, it was downright scary, but the author masterfully weaves a plot with strong characters (good and evil), colorful descriptions and the ever-so-charming sense that there was and still are knights in shining armor to rescue a damsel in distress. A real page turner! Well done!

The main character, Bronwen, is finally able to take control of her life. For years she's suffered cruelly at the hands of her relatives. It hasn't been easy for her, but a move to a quiet little cottage is just what she needs. A new start. Too bad the land is cursed and she's the key to breaking it.
This was a hard read. The story was good, but some of the beginning chapters seemed to drag on, a couple I felt served no purpose, and occasionally the grammar was tough to get through. Plus the consistent switch of POV was a little annoying. Regardless, I pushed through and read until the very end.
I liked the concept of the story. Unfortunately, I really didn't feel like I got pulled into it until about Chapter 7. Then I finally felt like things really started to happen. At this point, you begin to get a sense of the curse on the Kenward family. I liked how the author flipped back and forth to show how it all began. I just wish the past would've been better identified. It helped a lot to see what happened, but it also portrayed the step-mother as crazy. Wasn't hard to see then she was the one responsible for everything. There was a bit of a surprise though. I don't want to give anything away, so I won't tell you what.
I also like the little bit of romance we get to see between Bronwen and Adam Kenward. I would've liked to see a bit more of it before shit hit the fan.
And that frigging real estate agent. I wanted to kill the psycho! Makes me wonder how in the hell the police never caught the guy because I'm fairly certain they had his DNA. You'd think it would've been on file somehow, somewhere for them to match it up.
Obviously there were things left questioned. But in the end the novel had a good ending.

In the reading of 'Echoes' by Paula Roscoe. I found a depth of character portrayal that was individual and refreshing, in the way they were presented and introduced. That drew me in and involved me in the expanding plot-line, in a totally engaging and believable manner, with their integrations and interactions. A main quality of reference. As well as the settings and topography, generated that needed inner visualization, of time and place. So important to the reader and for me that inner movie played on with all the tensions, joys and at times, even scary portrayal. That a good if not great mystery, needs to contain. That entertain this reader, right the way through all the ups and downs and unravellings, and finally. That place right at the end, after the reveals... where Echoes as a title. Made the finished edges rebound and all come to play, and it was for me. A perfect ending. I had no questions that need answering, nor leave me hanging. The ending was natural and as it should be, for those cherished characters involved therein.
A fine read PJ Roscoe and a 5 of 5 star rating by; Romon in Review. It was an honour to be a Reader for you, and Echoes. Was one of many I've read, that entertain me right the way through. Great novel.

I had this as a good reads competition winner, and firstly, lovely to have an inscription from he author, thank you! I actually finished this book a while ago, and have been working out what to say. Without having spoilers in it, the tale twists and turns, sometimes predictably, others not, and if you don't like any supernatural, you won't like it! But I did enjoy it, so would recommend it as being worth a go.
