It can be reviewed as:

'A book in which the hunger serves the food'

'A display of the erosion of ambitions amidst the survival'

'Another book that will make you feel grateful for what you 've got'

'A Tamil book about the lives/struggles/challenges/survival of students, who come from financially week families of rural areas of Tamilnadu to the capital Chennai for studying, but start working in any mediocre jobs they get (catering/food-serving job especially in this book) to manage their pathetic financial conditions, without a proper place and food.'

Reading it reminded me of "Free man" by Aman Sethi (a book about the lives of carefree labourers in Delhi) & a tamil movie "Angaadi Theru" (about the lives of people working in the city's bright textiles) alot. And one thing I find common in them or any other reality oriented works about working class is that the government & its welfare make its presence in their lives either rarely or barely. We might think in many areas " WT* the government is doing, working for, as most of the underprivileged or needy people seem to move their days only with the help of other normal people like them or NGO's, and it feels as if they have their own invisible world(or the world we have not paid attention to) with their own support systems". 

I suggest this book to all, especially those who come from other parts of Tamilnadu to Chennai for works, studies or simply their dreams and those people who from their 'comfort zones' post in all social media only the look-like-wow stuffs their favourite political parties/leaders/government do/did/will do everyday without realising/acknowledging what effects they practically have in reality to the people, especially the ones at the bottom and to their actual needs.

Overall it is an amazing book, funny & sad and personally more relatable of all I 've read so far, you will get so many things like light humor, friendships, love, anxieties, poems etc., and informations/opinions from this 245 pages book for sure. But don't expect adventures, motivations, scenes with bright colours, great bgm and a wonderful storyline for its just a simple book that records certain reality as it is and the debut author has done a great job with that.

And after reading, I believe it will change your way of looking at the people who organise/cook/serve the food in the marriage functions and you will even begin to notice with new eyes how the above mentioned students occupy everywhere in cities like 'petrol bunks, market places, deliveries(food/consignment), political conferences(for errands), selling groundnuts/soups in beach, cinema theatre, parking lots, gates of IT offices with leaflets, construction sites etc..,' and I can't agree more with the author to call them "Gods" for their omnipresence or also "Rajnikanths" as they come to our aid at the right time albeit you don't know how and when they will come.

பலநேரம் பாகற்காய் பாரில்நம் வாழ்க்கை!
சிலநேரம் தித்திப்புத் தேன் (ஒளிந்திருக்கும் சிற்பங்கள், ய. மணிகண்டன்)
என்ற பாடலுக்கு ஏற்ப பலநேரங்களில் நம்முடைய வாழ்க்கை கசக்கத்தான் செய்கிறது. கசப்பான வாழ்க்கையில் இனிமையைக்காண முயன்று தோற்றுப்போவதே வாடிக்கையாகிறது (பெரும்பாண்மை கருதி இவ்வாறு கூறப்பட்டது). பருக்கை என்ற இந்நாவலில் இடம்பெறும் கதைக்களம் சென்னை நகரவாசிகள் நன்கு அறிந்தது. அதிலும் குறிப்பாகப் பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்கள் உணர்ந்தது. நூலாசிரியரின் எழுத்து சில நேரங்களில் கொந்தளிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தினாலும் அதுவே உண்மை எனும்போது அமைதியாகத்தான் இருக்கத்தோன்றுகிறது. அரசினர் விடுதி பராமரிப்பு, மாணவர்களின் நலன், உண்ணும் உணவின் தரம் போன்றன சரியான முறையில் இன்றும் பார்க்கப்படுவதில்லை (இது சென்னையில் மட்டுமல்ல). இதுபோன்ற சூழ்நிலையில் அங்கேதான் தங்கிப்படிக்க வேண்டுமா? என்ற கேள்வி எழாதவண்ணம் மாணவரின் குடும்பப் பொருளாதாரம் முன்னிற்கிறது. இதுபோன்ற சூழ்நிலையில் படிப்பதற்கான கட்டணத்தை (தேர்வுக் கட்டணம்) எவ்விதம் அவர்கள் நிறைவு செய்கிறார்கள் என்பதை மிக விரிவாக இந்நாவல் பேசுகிறது.
இந்நாவல் பேசும் கதைக்களம் வேண்டுமானால் சென்னையைச் சார்ந்ததாக இருக்கலாமே தவிர, இது தமிழக மாணவர்களுக்கான ஒரு நிகழ்வுதான். இதுபோன்ற அவலநிலை மாறவேண்டும் என்பதின் விருப்ப வெளிப்பாடாக இந்நாவல் அமைகிறது.

ஊர்ப்புறமிருந்து பெருநகர அரசு கல்லுரிக்கு படிக்க வரும் மாணவர்களுக்கு வீட்டு பொருளாதார நிலை காரணமாக தாங்களே தங்களின் சாப்பாட்டு செலவு, தேர்வு கட்டணம் & பிற பொருளாதர செலவுகளை பாரத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டிய நிலை. கேட்ரிங் வேலைக்கு(உணவு பரிமாற) பகுதி நேரமாக சென்று கொண்டே கல்லுரி படிப்பைத் தொடரும் இராசபுரம் அரசு விடுதி பசங்க சுரேஷ், சக்த்தி, ….., சிலம்பு, செல்வா இவர்களின் கேட்ரிங் வேலை அனுபவங்களையும் வயிற்று பசியையும் பேசுகிறது பருக்கை. -கலைச்செல்வன் செல்வராஜ்.
