--- Role-playing a cat for six months? You said you’re paying how much? ---

Goran’s mouth has no filter, and it’s losing him job after job. Desperate and a week away from being homeless, he finds an offer online that sounds too good to be true. Spending six months in a mansion by the beach in return for a hundred thousand dollars as long as he sticks to the house rules.

This might be the one job where his unruly mouth doesn’t get in the way. After all, saying the wrong thing is impossible… when you’re role-playing a cat.

Meeting all the other guys at the cattery seems to be the icing on the cake, but the inconvenient truth he dishes out turns out to be too much. Goran makes everyone his enemy, but worst of all, Ollie, the prettiest cat of the bunch, the one who’s been in the cattery the longest, and the one who makes Goran’s heart skip a beat.

Ollie’s big blue eyes hold secrets Goran is intent on cracking, but to do so, he will need to learn to bite his tongue and listen. Too bad the pretty blond ice prince is set on getting Goran kicked out of the cattery for good.

Unexpectedly, I really loved this. I genuinely enjoyed it a lot, even though it didn’t necessarily sound like my kind of thing initially. In the end, I’m very happy I gave it a shot.

The premise sounds weirdly kinky, but the sex scenes aren’t that many, and I thought all of it felt organic and didn’t take away from the main relationship.
Ollie and Goran obviously have sex with other people in this book, but they do end up being exclusive when they get together.

It was very dramatic with lots of jealousies, betrayals and miscommunications, but instead of that being annoying, it was all incredibly entertaining. I honestly was completely invested in it all. I felt anger, frustration and relief at everything that happened.

And yes, sure, the relationship could have had a little more depth, but I noticed that I was still very much rooting for them regardless. I thought they were cute together with lots of tension between them, and I simply adored how obsessed Goran was with Ollie.

I just had lots of fun with this, never felt bored, and was very much into it all.

I do have to admit that the ending felt irritatingly abrupt, and I really wanted more from it. Certain things weren’t addressed, which I truly think should have been. That was definitely my biggest complaint.

This was a lovely book. It was all so bizarre at first, men behaving like cats and everything else. But it was cute, fun, and very hot. I don't know what to say about Luis, but I definitely loved Goran and Oliver, and Bounce and Clove, too.

My only issue is that there were very few pages of Goran and Oliver dating and being in a relationship after they left the Cattery. It would have been nice to see how Oliver transitioned from a scared, nervous Ollie to Goran's confident partner.

"Come here...kitty, kitty, kitty!"

This was beyond a doubt the craziest and kinkiest story I have ever read (that didn't involve zombies, I mean, nothing is crazier than zombies)!!

But come on, nothing beats pussy in a m/m story? And everyone likes cats, right?

description

Goran, a hot lifeguard from the sunny beaches of Croatia finds himself stranded in Miami after almost ruining his family's hotel with his sometimes terribly direct (aka rude) behavior. Finding work as an immigrant in Miami without a work permit isn't easy, so he happily answers an ad looking for young gay men, not even shying away from doing porn if it meant he could finally earn the money he came to the US for.

The job interview with handsome millionaire Luis confirms his suspicions that he's in for some kind of sex work. What he didn't expect, however, is having to pretend to be a CAT for 6 months and fulfilling Luis' sexual fantasies alongside 5 other 'cats' in the millionaire's harem (sorry...'Cattery').

But for 150,000 dollars, Goran certainly doesn't mind getting pampered in a luxury mansion and engaging in daily group sex orgies with other hot guys.

Unfortunately, his unfiltered mouth leads to lots of tension among the cats and not even his sexual versatility seems to be enough to make his stay in the cattery a pleasant one.

Especially one other 'cat', Oliver, treats him with open hostility. If only Oliver weren't the one Goran finds himself drawn to the most.

When feelings start getting involved, Goran stumbles over the cattery's main rule of not having an exclusive relationship with any of the 'cats' for the duration of the 6 months.

And is a troubled, insecure kitty worth risking 150,000 dollars?

This story totally blew me away

-Hot, naughty, dirty sex!
-Great characters with emotional depths (not just the MCs but the side characters as well!)
-It has a European connection with Goran being Croatian!
-A very unusual pet-play kink that was so over the top that I couldn't help but laugh at the man-sized cat tree and cat ears that needed to be worn during 'cat time'.

I mean, up to now, I'd have laughed at anyone who told me pet-play was actually a thing, but you never stop learning, LOL.

I absolutely loved this story!

And yes, even though I am a dog person, I can totally relate to Luis ;-)
A hot guy and a cat certainly are an attractive mix!

Sigh!

5 stars and a definite favorite (it even features the Eurovision Songcontest, dammit!!)!

K.A. Merikan + Animalization = Happy Sheziss

I fell in love with the Merikan after reading The Copper Horse, so when I knew there would be another book with animal-kinky sex, I couldn't wait to put my hands on it.

The style is different, as it's a contemporary and fluffy story, everything the other series was not. This was easy and fun to read, naughty and hot, but sweet and charming nevertheless. I didn't expect this blessed madness to result in such a beautiful romance. Because the MCs don't exactly start with a good foot in their relationship!

It's not that they don't like each other. In fact they find each other attractive on sight, but animosity soon takes place. No, what was indeed a lousy beginning was the fact that Ollie is smitten, but not with Goran, but with Luis, the "owner" of the cattery. Ollie has been with Luis for two years now, and it doesn't seem that he's eager to leave any time soon. So Goran should have seen it coming, should have just given up and gone on with his life, instead of waiting for something that would never happen.

But somehow, he maintains a hope, a stupid feeble hope, that one day Ollie would lay his eyes upon him and see him for real. Because Goran indeed sees Ollie for real, not only his playful and sexy side, but his inner true side, too.

I loved Goran.

Ollie takes a longer while to acknowledge and make sense of his own emotions, and sometimes he throws Goran under the bus. A real backstabber when he feels he's going to lose everything he has been fighting for. Until he realizes that everything he has been fighting for is a chimera. Smoke. Not real.

And he manages to see his real better half just in time.

I enjoyed this one immensely, it's fun, sweet and naughty. The Merikan are masters of the kinky side. What I liked the most, however, is the ending. It's absolutely PURRFECT! (I mean the real ending, not the epilogue, which is sweet, but the ending made my day, seriously!)

(Sorry, Chelsea, I couldn't help it, this pic is TOO good)

4 kinky-hearts!!

I was so super excited to read this one! I loved K.A. Merikans Crazy Kinky Dirty Love - Box Set series for its kinky lightness, so to hear they were starting another kinky series had me squealing! I love animal role-play books, I haven’t read nearly enough so I still find myself giggly at the weirdness of it all, but my goodness it is hot!! The Cattery absolutely delivered on all of that!

Goran is working in the US to try and repay his debt to his parents in Croatia. When he’s fired from his current job, he takes a position as… well a sex kitten for Luis, the eccentric billionaire of this story. There are four other men who ‘work’ at the cattery for Luis. One of them is Ollie who has lived at the cattery for 2 years. Goran’s non-filter mouth digs him a big hole when he first arrives, and Ollie takes an instant dislike to Goran despite their mutual attraction.

Ollie’s character is where this lost hearts for me. He was a very cleverly written character, but I just did not like him. Ollie has been at the cattery for 2 years, mainly because he is in love with Luis and can’t bring himself to leave, and he has grown so dependent on Luis and his affections that he is starting to forget he is a man as well. This makes him hate Goran for his honest words and real-life views on Luis and the Cattery.

Ollie is not a nice person, he was always misinterpreting Goran’s words and actions and backstabbing him. He acted like a petty teenager for most of the story, or a really pissed off, spoilt cat. At about the 65% mark we start to understand the conflict that Ollie is living with a bit better and it adds that slice of sympathy I needed to forgive him enough to want his HEA.
“I miss being more than a pet. You made me realize that”

I loved Goran. He felt like a real person. He was honest with his mouth and his feelings. He had flaws he was trying to work through and hopes for his life once he left the cattery. The progression of his and Ollie’s love story was nice and slow, which was good and realistic, it was also very frustrating, because Ollie acts like a child for most of it and you don’t want Goran to have to put up with that.

Then there’s Luis, oh Luis… you kinky, kinky bastard! He was a sweetheart and I really really loved him, but my goodness he is so weird!
“Here, kitty, kitty, kitty,” came in a hoarse voice.

So let's talk about the kinky stuff!

This book had me equal parts super turned on and suppressing awkward giggling.
Goran leaned over to Luis’s hand and lapped at it to lick up the sperm. The digits trembled, only smearing the salty liquid on Goran’s eager lips.
“Oh, yes, that’s a good kitty. You’re such a sweet, caring cat, Smokey,”

The animal play is full-on so if it's not something you’d be interested in, tread very carefully!

There are threesome scenes and orgies, cat dress-ups, and a lot of cum licking and it was all INCREDIBLY HOT, as in true Merikan style. I know this will be important to a lot of people but it is a tad spoilerish, so...

If you don’t mind your kink to be kinky, you don’t mind some frustrating characters who have to mature to become better people, and you like a satisfying HEA, I’d definitely recommend this!!!

I so want more from this series!

Before you say that cat play is not your thing, let me tell you that I 've skipped books of some series because there was animal play in them. But I trust K.A.Merikan to take me to new places and stretch my limits. I'm glad I didn't think too hard about it and took the leap, because The Cattery is all about FUN! No mafia, bikers, or blood here. Only kitties!

The Cattery is basically a mansion where Luis, the owner, keeps his "cats". He's awkward around people, and he prefers spending time with his kitties, rather than people. He also likes to have sex with them. This quote describes it perfectly.

Goran came to the US from Croatia. He tries to make money to send back home and help the family business. When he replies to Luis' add, he has no idea what it's about. But the owner is a sweet guy and he offers Goran a great deal that could get the business going again. Plus, as a cat, he won't have to talk, and running his mouth is what, usually, gets him in trouble. And let me tell you, Goran can really pull of acting like a sexy kitten.

There, he meets Ollie, the prettiest cat of the bunch, and the one who has been the longest in the Cattery. And he falls hard.

Ollie was a complex character. At first, he comes off as snob and two-faced but as the story progressed I understood him and his obssession with Luis better. Why didn't he want to leave the Cattery? Was it really his love for Luis that kept him there? Deep down Ollie is just scared and alone.

But falling in love with Ollie makes things tricky and can get Goran kicked out of the Cattery. And then what? Where will he find the money he needs? And will he be able to see Ollie again? You 'll have to wait and see.

"... I just can’t bear touching you anymore.”
Ollie’s Adam’s apple moved up and down his graceful neck. “Why? Are you disgusted with me? Is
that it? You think I’m pathetic?”Goran looked up to his eyes and shook his head. “You really are dumb, aren’t you? I’m falling for you so hard. If I kiss you again, I’ll lose my heart."

The romance between Goran and Ollie is super sweet and the sex super dirty! But just for once, I really wanted to see Ollie defending his love for Goran instead of throwing him off the bus every time shit hit the fan. I understood him, but man...he made me so mad. But in the end, Ollie takes the plunge, and that is enough of a redemption for me. The epilogue is a glorious HEA.

The kink drives the plot here, it's not just fake paws and kitty ears. There are cat fights, gang cat bangs, and a lot of purring and meowing. I didn't expect it, but I loved the world the authors created and the characters in it (except a certain spiteful ginger cat). It made me equal parts of creeped out, fascinated, amused, and turned on. And I loved the banter between the guys when Luis wasn't around, and they got to be like their regular self.

I'm very excited for the next books in the series. I'm looking forward to read everyone's story and, hopefuly, Luis' too. Now about Cin....I don't know about that.

Wild kitty sex orgies are all kinds of hot. Who knew?

It ALL goes down at the cattery. Think Playboy Mansion but with cats, or rather beautiful boys pretending to be cats.

And forget the nasty, creepy Hugh Hefner.

Luis may be slightly eccentric, but he's handsome, wealthy, and more than a little into pet play. He's awkward with people, so he keeps cats instead. His cattery is luxurious and entertaining: pretty kitty paradise.

All the kitties' needs are take care of. They romp and sun all day, and fuck like, well, cats, at night ... day, too, if that's what Luis wants.

Ollie (real name: Oliver) has been perfectly happy at the cattery for two years. He fancies himself in love with Luis, and the cattery makes him feel safe. That's why he resents the brooding interloper with the sexy accent who joins the fray.

Ollie wants Luis for himself, and he already has to share with Clove (who's more serious and intense than he lets on), Bounce (just a big puppy pretending to be a cat), and the bitchy, snarky, back-stabbing Cinnamon.

Goran (cat name: Smokey) just wants to earn his hundred grand and go home to Croatia. He fucked up his parents' business and needs to make things right. When he falls for Ollie, it's inconvenient. But Ollie is irresistible.

Ollie has been at the cattery for so long, it's all he knows. Even after he connects with Goran, he's scared to move on. Ollie's actions aren't always nice. He breaks Goran's trust more than once. Damn, but does Ollie know how to throw a man under the bus.

But Goran doesn't just take it. He doesn't play games and is honest to a fault (his mouth has gotten him in trouble more than once). So he pulls back and lets Ollie know exactly what he thinks of his treachery.

I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. But, wow, this story is FUN and original and PERVY in all the right ways. It's also ROMANTIC. And deep. Seriously, there's way more to the cattery than meets the eye.

There are allegiances, petty rivalries, competition, and friendship. There's group sex and lazy blowjobs and a giant treehouse with fluffy toys. It's a fabulous, insular world with its own master and his pretties.

I would have thrown the biggest hissy fit had this book ended without an epilogue. Fortunately, K.A. Merikan provided, and I greedily lapped it up.

This one is DELICIOUS in every way. I'm looking forward to more KITTIES & KINK! Meow.

EXCITED.

That’s what this book had me. Excited to read it. Excited about the gorgeous cover. Excited by all the kink. Excited by this sweet little romance. Excited to see how it would all turn out and yet excited about every single I read. I have probably said this before but, THIS is my favorite K.A. Merikan book to date.

If I had any hopes about of leading a life of pious thoughts and innocent naivety (chyeah, OK) then all those hopes have been dashed to hell with this book because LORD(!), I was uncomfortably turned on by all the kinky fuckery. As in I-need-to-take-a-moment-to-sort-out-this-situation-umcomfortably-turned-on. Not only because of the delicious exploration of kink but also because of the excellent descriptions surrounding the emotions and the pure abandon with which these men gave themselves over.

What I expected to be an erotic novel from start to finish turned out to be such a sweet, SWEET romance. I love a good enemies to lovers romance and when it comes with a character like Goran, it’s all the more enjoyable. Goran is immediately smitten with Ollie from the moment he spots him, but he also has a serious problem with holding his tongue and watching him navigate through this new experience was adorable. Because of their constant push and pull, there was just enough angst to keep things fresh but not so much that it took centre stage. Above all their story was touching, endearing and beautiful.

I have only ever read Merikan’s darker books and this book is proof that these authors are versatile with an exceptional ability to weave creative, original and believable stories you can lose yourself in, no matter the subject or genre they choose. The Cattery hit all the good feels andleft me with a giant smile on my face. Absolutely recommended for all MM Romance fans.

~~~BR with the wonderful Ele!!~~~
The Cattery is a bit off the beaten path, for me. Pet play is not anywhere near my kink, but KA Merikan managed to make it fun, anyway. And The Cattery is a light-hearted book, too, when compared to the authors usual fare. Plus, no one dies.
Luis is the owner of The Cattery (and not an MC, just so we're clear). He's an eccentric rich guy who is not in the market for a partner. He says he's awkward with people and finds comfort and relaxation in cat-play. He houses 5 young men in his cattery and in exchange for 6 months of service, each "cat" will receive $100K, as long as they don't break the rules and get 3 strikes. Luis gives his cats room and board (and pet names) in a luxurious seaside mansion, gourmet food and takes care of their every need.
He has some rules, though, that he is very very strict with:
1) no leaving property
2) no internet or communication with the outside
3) no exclusive relationships
Easy, right? It's supposed to be a fun and relaxing place, after all.
Well, introducing Goran into the mix of cats had some unintended consequences. Goran - very unintentionally - tends to cause trouble because he says exactly what he thinks. There's no pretense with him at all. At first, he thinks that he will be accepted into the mix and he's looking forward to sampling the other cats, especially Ollie, who looks like an angel to Goran. But words happen and he feels unwelcome, as usual.
Ollie (real name, Oliver) has been at the cattery for the longest -- two years. He's young and scared of the outside world, and he wishes to forget what brought him to the cattery in the first place. He fancies himself in love with Luis, but he quite enjoys the other cats, as well. As long as he gets preferential treatment from Luis, that is. When Goran is added to the mix, Ollie is immediately attracted, but Goran's blunt nature has Ollie conspiring to get Goran tossed out.
As I'm sure you can guess, there is a fair amount of pettiness among the cats (cats are assholes, afterall). And Ollie isn't even the worst -- that award would go to Cin (Cinnamon), who was pretty back-stabby throughout the book. Ollie was just scared of losing his only refuge, so he tended to take the coward's way out of any action that Luis might not like. And then we have Bounce, who would actually make a better puppy, and Clove, who gained my respect with a single conversation. We don't learn a whole lot about them, but at least they don't seem too catty.
By the end of the book, I understood Oliver a lot more than I did at the beginning, but I still think he has a ways to go to make up for hurting Goran and throwing him under the bus, repeatedly. And the epilogue shows that Oliver is willing to make the efforts. And we find out the depths of Goran's loyalty and honor. He doesn't make excuses for anything. He owns his mistakes and is honest about who and what he wants.
As I mentioned in the beginning, The Cattery was a very different read for me, but I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to getting stories for the other kitties, as well as (I hope) Luis. I have a feeling that this series will prove interesting, indeed.
I read this book for 3 reasons:
1. Judith! I love her reviews and when I saw her review of this book I was left intrigued.
2. I have read some books in the Coffin Nails MC series and what I know of K.A Merikan is blood and violence so I was curious about them writing something different.
3. 5 guys in a house pretending to be cats? Interesting.
I have never read any type of animal play before. My first time had to be cat play, MM and with a bunch of dudes, so you know, orgy.
“Looking for young, single gay men with a passion for theater and acting. You need to be open-minded and easygoing, open to experimentation. All details of the job will be disclosed at an interview after the acceptance of a face and body photo"
Who would respond to that ad?
This story is set in Luis's cattery, Luis is a special man, he has a hard time with human interactions so he decided to make his cattery, hired guys to live in a designated house for 6 months and be his cats. This, though, is not Luis's story.
Goran is from Croatia, his mouth works fast and that tends to ruin things for him. Some time ago he made a mistake in his parents hotel and this cost them, now he needs money so he travels to the U.S to get a job and help his family. After many failed attempts at keeping a job he sees an ad and decides to go for it.
Oliver is cat in Luis's cattery, lets say he is the "senior" cat. He has spent two years there. He is Luis favorite. Before the Cattery, he came out to his parents and things didn't turn out well so he needed a refuge. Luis gave him that.
When Goran gets to cattery he feels instantly attracted to Ollie but after he runs his mouth Ollie wants nothing to do with him, in fact, he wants him out.
This story was definitely something different, it was fun, there was drama and the claws definitely came out. There were some orgy scenes , not too many, but I have to admit I might have skipped some pages, sorry, more than two people is not my thing. but the little things I read were definitely hot. The cat play is weirdly not uncomfortable at all, it was interesting and kinda fun actually.
Luis was written perfectly, I didn't see him as a weirdo. I wanna know more about him and what made him make this big decision.
Goran, I love him! He was a great guy, I didn't mind his mouth. I thought he was very honest and had a huge heart.
Ollie was kinda petty in the beginning but I understood why. He's been pretending to be a cat for a big part of two years, he has lived in a bubble with no internet or contact with the outside world besides Luis and The different guys that come to the cattery every 6 months. He feels alone in a full house and Luis is all he thinks he has in the world.
In the end Goran and Ollie got their HEA and I was delighted with their story.
I will definitely read the next book in this series, I wanna know the other stories. Not Cinnamon's though, that two faced bastard.
I NEED Luis's story!
BR with my girl Cass
Goran is a brash, speak now think later kind of guy and he’s stuck his foot in his mouth more than on the ground. After being fired from yet another job he finds an ad that seems too good to be true and you know what they say about that.
But in this case the ad is as good as promised. For six months and a hundred grand he’ll live in this palatial mansion in Miami complete with a cook, maid and pool. Most of the time he’ll be free to do what he pleases but some times he’ll need to be a cat. There’s also gratuitous sex.
Welcome to The Cattery.
Most of the cats are forgettable except Olly and Cinnamon. Both equally kinda suck. One is two faced and manipulative, the other is self centered and a diva.
Plus the guy that hired you? He’s hot, kinda cool but a lot weird. I mean the dude wants a bunch of guys to act like his pampered kitties before he defiles them with his cock. But he’s hot!
I love Goran and he deserves so much better. Even when Olly comes around I find him incredibly disingenuous. Plus don’t get me started on what Luis does to Olly, it’s pure emotional torture. The best thing he could do is kick him out instead of stringing him along. (You see what I did there? Stringing him along … because he’s a cat! 😹)
Overall a cute, entertaining read. I never found the connection between Goran and Olly, so to me it was less of a romance and more of an interesting kink fantasy.
A cute and enjoyable read. Who knew there could be such bitchy cats ? I'm glad Goran and Ollie found their way. They had a developing chemistry but it didn't quite grab me as I hoped. Maybe Ollie was just a little too passive.
Ollie
Let me start of saying this is nothing like these Authors other series.
I'm all about dirty sex in books but,surprisingly,really not into kink.I've read one other book with animal role playing which I liked but it wouldn't normally be my thing but this one TOTALLY worked for me.
I mean,imagine 5 gorgeous young men wearing collors,kitten ears and crawling around on their hands and knees.....let me tell you this is a hot one!
Goran
Goran is from Croatia and has come to America after he got his family's business in trouble and wants to make money to help them out.His mouth has no filter and he can't hold down a job.He sees an advertisment online that he knows probably involves sexual favours but he goes for it.
Luis is in control of The Cattery.He's not good with people,preferring animals,especially cats,for company.
Goran joins The Cattery and along with 4 other young men becomes one of Luis's kitties.....
Stay with me because it actually works!!
Ollie was the first kitty and has been there for two years.He was cast aside by his family for being Gay and had become quite institutionalized......terrified of the outside world.
Kind of an enemy to lovers story.Like I said I wasn't too sure about cat role playing but I actually found it a turn on.
I seriously don't know how these Authors come up with their ideas but I absolutely love their books.
Highly recommended for kinky M/M fans.....
Ok, that was actually pretty sweet... and weird. KA Merikan are one of the few authors where I can read something that is NOT MY KINK and still ... not enjoy... enjoy is the wrong word.
To understand my feelings on KA Merikan, let me tell you about my friend. She moved away to another state to live with her brother and she didn't have a lot of friends, so she hung out with his. She came back for a visit.
Observe:
Her: You used to go to that goth bar, right? You'd probably like my brother's friends. They're vampires.
Me: Wait... they're what, now?
Her: Vampires.
Me: Like.... they role-play a vampire game??? Like LARPers? or like they believe they're creatures of the night.
Her: Both kinda... maybe? They drink blood and stuff, but I don't think they believe they're actually vampires.
Me: !!!!! From each other? Do they bite each other???
Her: No, I think they get it from a blood bank. It's like a religious ritual thing.
Me: WHAT? OMG, this is the best day ever. I have so. many. questions. Tell me everything you know. This is fascinating.
KA Merikan is like that friend for me or like that weird rabbit hole on the internet where you learned about vore for the first time.
It's not sexy times (ok, I've read the reviews... for some people it's totally sexy time - no judgement, what you get up to in your own head is your own business) it's not sexy times for me but it is hella fucking interesting, because they don't write about anything even remotely run of the mill.
I come away from almost every one of these stories feeling vaguely 'wtf did I just read' mixed with 'I've learned new things today'. I'm not gonna put a value judgement on that, because it is what it is - almost always Not My Kink, but fascinating nonetheless.
Like the vampire people.
First let me start by saying that I have never read a book that has animal role play and its safe to say I will never read one again. The only reason I gave this one a try was that the reviews stated kink but sweet so I figured why not. Well it didn't work for me and was almost a DNF. Although the sex was hot, I would have probably preferred it as just an erotic novel instead of trying to be a romance. With all the bickering and sex with others I never felt any connections between Ollie and Goran.
I really enjoyed this! I usually steer clear of anything with kink, fetishes, and role-playing. But this is K.A. Merikan! And cats are pretty harmless, right? At first I was so weirded out, but I ended up really enjoying Luis and cat time, more than the rest of the book. It was so fun and sweet!
Goran and Ollie were kind of annoying assholes, and the cats were a bunch of divas! OMG I never want to see Cin again. By the time of the next book Luis better have a whole new cattery. And of course Luis has to find his own special cat one day!
*I'm just gonna leave this right here- it's important* https://youtu.be/HpVXIH24KzQ
First of all: This book is exactly what it sounds like. Yep, house full of pretty young dudes cat role playing. I picked it up for the WTF factor, but then found that it was actually a pretty sweet story. I read this a few weeks ago, so I'm a little hazy on the details already.
One thing I noticed was that the writing quality seemed to wane significantly in the second half of the book. The dialogue especially felt a bit off. I didn't notice so much when the voice was Goran's, but perhaps that's because his English didn't sound completely natural in my head. I'm wondering if perhaps English isn't the first language of the writers? It just needed a bit of polishing.
I was pleasantly surprised by this story though. It was as silly as I expected it to be, but it had much more heart than I anticipated. And let's not forget the hotness. These ladies can seriously write the hell out of a sex scene. Recommended for anyone who wants a cute, fluffy, weird time.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn’t entirely sure if this book was for me but I volunteered to read and review The Cattery by K.A. Merikan because I love their Gun ‘n Boys and Sex & Mayhem book series. I am so glad that I did because I really enjoyed this book! Goran is in the US short-term from Croatia to try to earn money to help his parents recover financially because his outspokenness caused a major customer service issue at the family hotel. He is struggling in the US as well, losing every job he is able to get because of his mouth. He sees an advertisement for a mysterious position “for young, single, gay man with a passion for theater and acting” that he feels is too good to be true but he decides to pursue it anyway. At the interview he meets Luis, the handsome man who placed the advertisement, who explains that what he expects from Goran is to role play as a cat at Luis’ command. The luxurious accommodations and promise of a huge pay out after 6 months is too much to walk away from for Goran, who agrees to be Luis’ newest addition.
Goran meets Ollie, who is also a part of Luis’ cattery. There is an attraction between the two initially but they are quickly at odds because of something Goran says about the arrangement. It’s Goran against the group but eventually the boys are all at odds for a variety of reasons. There are a few starts & stops between Goran & Ollie, some because of simple misunderstandings, some because Ollie is struggling with the concept of life outside of the cattery.
This being a K.A. Merikan book, super hot sexy scenes are to be expected and they for sure deliver on this with The Cattery. When Luis rings the bell to signal cat time you can expect some smoking group action, and the scenes between Ollie & Goran were super sexy as well. It’s an over-the-top story but I loved it. This is the first in a series and I look forward to reading the follow-up!
Between a 2.5 and 3 stars? I might have to sleep on it.
This was OK for me, but could be interesting if you're looking for something fluffy with a little kink. It could even be a great book for those who want to try something with pet play without it being too intense. There's no dubcon, no discipline, or rougher scenes. The romance is between two of the "cats", so there's no power imbalance either. It's NOT erotica, this book is definitely a romance first, and doesn't even have that many sex scenes. The 4(5?) sex scenes it has are both explicit and hot, but tamer than I would have thought!
I liked Goran as a character, and the other guys in the cattery were also fun. Ollie grew on me but he was a little whiny and indecisive at times. I wish there was a little more time dedicated to the romance before they actually got together. I thought they went from not talking to openly admitting they like each other a little too quickly. I really liked the whole bus moment and the little "date" that followed though, that was very cute and had that Merikan vibe!
You know sometimes you see or learn about something like the ears of a crow (if you've never seen one before, don't blame me if curiosity got the better of you and you decided to google it), you know that you could have gone through your life perfectly without having known about it? This book happens to fall in that category for me.
Do you dig guys wearing cat ears and collars having sex? If yes, then this is definitely right up your alley. Just pick it up right now, do you really need more from a review? If no, just stop it right here, there's definitely tons of better books for you.
Unfortunately I couldn't connect well with the characters, and the whole cat harem just felt really weird to me. I do like certain characters like Bounce more than the MCs here. It's sad that the story didn't show what happened to the other characters in the story at all. I would have at least liked to see what happened to the other characters.
Wow...this book was weird...interesting...but weird ;)
So Luis is a guy with a serious cat fetish. He's rich, which makes it easier for him to indulge in his addiction. You see Luis just doesn't like cats. He likes men acting as cats...he also likes fucking them.
He has a building on his property, called "The Cattery" and this is where his catmen stay. They don;t have to do anything. They can hang around in luxory, they get fed, they can play videogames, read, swim and they even have a huge cat threehouse....
They only have a few rules. No contact with the outside world, no leaving The Cattery and when Luis rinkles the bell ... it's cat time. When it's cattime, they all have to act like real cats, and speaking is not allowed. They also all have to partake in the sexytimes ;)
 photo cat-model-hero_zpsizdedmtt.jpg
Ollie has been in the cattery for two years now. He was Luis' first cat and he has been in love with Luis all this time. Having to share Luis with other cats is really hard on Ollie and it only gets harder when Goran arrives. All Ollie wants is time with Luis all by himself. He despises the newcomer for taking away even more time and attention from Luis. It becomes more and more clear to Ollie that Luis only wants a cat ... not a man and definitely not a boyfriends.
 photo tumblr_mxjepeyJSU1s77zr6o1_1280_zps1qgxxvw0.png
Goran is a foot in mouth kinda guy. His inability to keep his mouth shut has caused him a lot of problems and jobs already. Goran scewed his parents over and he's in desperate need of money to make things right. After losing another job because of his big mouth, he finds an add from the cattery. He goes in for an interview and he's hired on the spot. Acting like a cat, not having to do anything all day, being fed and getting paid 100.000 bucks for 6 months....sounds like heaven to him. Also he gets to play with the handsome Luis and 4 other really hot men ;)
He especially liked the cute blond...Ollie. There is an instant attraction there and Goran wouldn't mind having some sexy playtime with the man.
 photo target sighted_zpsqwn1u0wx.jpg
But what happens when attraction grows into something more....
This was different than any book I've ever read. I was a bit apprehensive about the whole cat roleplaying thing, but it turned out pretty funny. I did get irritated by Ollie a bit with his whiny behavior and I didn't care for Luis much. Still it was an enjoyable read. There is a lot going on...there is hate, envy, backstabbing, playing, orgies, steam, fun and even love...
4 stars from me and I will definitely chack the next book out ;)
Didn't give me what I wanted. I mostly enjoy KA Merikan style of stories very much, even when I have problems with the execution, so I was very excited finding out they have petplay romance in their catalogue, since I'm really hot for it. Unfortunately, this book mostly annoyed me.
I was all about Luis' cattery, it seems like something out of my wildest dreams, it would be the perfect life for me, unironically.
I found myself having a hard time connecting with the MCs. I'm all about flawed characters, and the authors usually serve on it, but I couldn't understand why Goran had to be rude. First, it's horrible that he has to deal with xenophobic comments in his jobs, but realistically someone desperate for money like he was would put up with it for necessity, not keep lashing out about clients being stupid or whatever. Thereore, his desperate financial situation felt off for me. Then, he was condescending with the other cats for no reason at all, and bugged me a lot.
About Oliver, I didn't like him at all either. At furst, i thought he would be an arrogant, petty drama queen like Cin is, and I could work with that! But he isn't. I also enjoy unrequited love (he's in love with Luis) and I hated his conflict of not wanting to be mostly a cat. He was there for that! Luis was so good with him, yet he was unsatisfied, wanting Luis to love him as human, not as a cat. WTF? Luis is into kittyplay, and he made it clear he wanted everyone to have a good time and to not force anyone to anything, if Oliver didn't want to be mostly a cat anymore, he should have told Luis, who would never want Oliver uncomfortable, but no, because he wanted Luis to reciprocate his feelings and he felt objetified. I partly understand where he was coming from, but this book was too short, his personality wasn't developed enough for me to really care.
This ended with me disliking the characters out of envy. I don't care if it seems petty, I hate when characters don't appreciate what I would really love to have. I'm not so like this IRL where I understand everyone has different wishes and goals, but in romance books is so frustrating. The rivals-to-lovers tension did it for me for a while, but afterwards Goran and Oliver together mostly stressed me out. They breaking Luis' rules all the time made me so angry, Luis didn't deserve that. Then, why the fuck they needed to be monogamous? I'm usually very into monogamy in books, I'm into whatever floats the characters' boats, but it felt so stupid here, I didn't know why they were into monogamy in that situation, it should have been more developed.
Clearly, I hated the way Luis was despicted. He was my favorite character, at first because he is the one with the actual kittyplay fetish, but he is also very caring and kind. By the main pairing POV is may make sense he being written off as a creep, but I obviously got furious. Luis didn't seek any of his cats for a romantic relationship, there was nothing creep or wrong with him wanting to see them as cats only. They were there for that!
This book wasn't a total miss because the kittyplay scenes with Luis were so hot, but I wished more of that. It seems like this book wasn't written for people with actual petplay fetish. I can see it working for people who aren't into it, but I was very disappointed. The scenes were hot, but the MCs not being actually invested in the roleplay was an obvious turn off for the entire book.
i am very confused.
i think that ka merikan’s books aren’t for me.
i had high expectations for this one, because i love weird things and people pretending to be cats for six months???? sign me the fuck up.
i have to say that the kitty play was so interesting and fun but the rest was a big mess.
they didn’t pretend to be cats for six months.
they were isolated in a mansion and they were cats very rarely to be honest.
the owner, louis, isn’t as involved as an owner should be. he has sex with his cats and that’s it. i honestly don’t understand why. he was the most useless character ever.
but let’s see those cats:
-ollie: i’m the best cat
-cinnamon: no i’m the best cat
-smokey: i could be the best cat if i wanted
-bounce: i don’t even know why i’m here but i have a bubbly personality
-clove: i don’t even have a personality.
picture this but for a whole book.
but the thing that shocked me the most is that they were fighting for louis????? THAT man???? why? he’s hot, sure but he doesn’t have an ounce of charisma, half a brain or a personality. i don’t think he even has feelings.
now about the “love story”. i honestly missed the whole falling in love because their interactions were: attraction, fight, ignore, fight, fight, ignore, hang out for 4 hours, fight, ignore, love ?????
how did you fall in love. HOW.
and ollie is the biggest piece of shit that ever shitted. he sucks as a person. sure, he’s pretty, but honestly that’s just not enough. he had a personality transplant at the end though. fun times.
the epilogue was SO random. we don’t know what louis did after, what did he say about ollie going away, cinnamon didn’t got what he deserved.
it left me with more questions than i would like. because ideally i wouldn’t think about this at all.
one star for the book and one extra star because i actually enjoyed the play.
this being said, i’ll keep on looking for a kitty play book that i actually enjoy. 🥹
Surprisingly enough I liked the parts with the cat play best. It didn’t bother me like I thought it would and was really well done.
What bugged me most about this book was the constant bickering between everyone, but mostly between Goran and Ollie. The constant push and pull drove me insane.
I had a hard time feeling their connection because even when they were being nice to each other something happened and they were back to backstabbing. These were not laid back guys! They came with a manual. It was tiring.
Once when Goran was telling Ollie about himself and Ollie responded by telling something about himself in return, Goran got mad all of a sudden because he felt he didn’t get enough sympathy from Ollie. Euuhm… excuse me? That is what you are fighting about? What happened to communicating in a calm and gentle way instead of accusing the other of being selfish in the middle of a heart to heart?
I would have liked it more if the guys in the cattery all formed a deep bond, but that wasn’t the case here. They were friends of some sort, but nothing too deep.
I was also a bit disappointed in the sex. I was totally on board with massive amounts of orgies and was prepared for it. But that’s not what we got. We got one orgy scene at the beginning and after that it all happens off page. Then we got the sex between Goran and Ollie, but no more lazy orgies. For once I was trying to embrace my inner perv, but it wasn’t meant to be…
Although I really liked the premise of this book and I enjoyed the cat play, the hate and backstabbing for most of this book took away my enjoyment. But that’s a personal preference. The writing was fine and I did enjoy most of it, just not enough.
¡Un aplauso a las Merikan por su ida de olla!! Leeré más de estas autoras, seguro.
Me ha encantado. Gollie son muy sexy, y muy monos :)
El libro no tiene más prentensiones que hacer pasar un buen rato y calentar el ambiente con una fantasía kink... ¡Y lo consigue!
Los personajes protagonistas tienen cierto relieve y los secundarios son interesantes (Quiero libro de Clove ya!), sin grandes introspecciones ni desarrollo de caracteres, con cuatro pinceladas las autoras consiguen que te intereses por ellos y no se queden en simples participantes en un sueño húmedo. (Porque sueño húmedo #SerEs)
Además consiguen que ciertas escenas que tenían todos los boletos para causarme un rechinar de dientes, me hayan resultado eróticas. Muy fan de estas dos.
Las autoras venden el libro como una historia corta divertida, refrescante, con sexo kinki para pasar un buen rato, y realmente eso lo es lo que es.
Luis, un hombre rico afincado en Miami, no sueña con tener un novio, sueña con tener un grupo de gatos, que a la vez sean hombres para tener relaciones sexuales, un role-play, y para eso crea una gatera con gatitos-hombres que han llegado allí por diversas circunstancias. Y será el gatito más dulce, Ollie, y el recién llegado, Goran los que se enamoren y tengan que elegir entre su existencia allí y una gran suma de dinero, o un futuro en el exterior. Una historia divertida, y desde luego escenas de sexo... originales, no exentas de morbo, la verdad.
Recomiendo el libro para el que quiera pasar un buen rato, no os vais a encontrar una prosa elaborada y unos personajes con un desarrollo complejo, pero está bien, no es lo que se buscaba.
Hay algo que me gustaría comentar, leí en su momento varias críticas para ver de qué iba la historia, y en muchas de ellas se menciona al personaje de Luis (el dueño de la gatera), lo fantástico que es Luis, y las ganas de leer su historia. Me temo que seré otra vez la voz discordante. Podríamos resumirlo en que me parece un personaje despreciable, y respecto a su historia... que le den. Y no me parece despreciable por sus gustos o fantasías sexuales, el problema es que no las lleva a cabo con gente que las comparta, las lleva a cabo con gente a la que paga sin tener en cuenta la situación que les lleva a aceptarlo y sin tener en cuenta cómo se encuentran esas personas cuando viven allí, el mejor ejemplo es Olli, al que conoce hace años. Es un personaje que toma ventaja de su situación económica para conseguir lo que quiere sin pararse a pensar en lo que hay alrededor. Lo siento, no lo compro. No le encuentro interesante, desde luego no es un buen samaritano, y me importa muy poco lo que le pueda pasar, ojalá no vuelva a ver un gato en su vida. Meh.
Un 3,5 redondeado al la baja y, sorpresa, el kink gatuno funciona xDDDDDDD
Tomaros esto como un entretenimiento ligero, los gatitos son muy monos y les gusta jugar, así que momentos hot garantizados, una vez que pasas el 20% y desparece el "pero qué co*o estoy leyendo????" el libro se lee sólo. Y os sube la temperatura, garantizado e.e
De los personajes me quedo con Goran y su "no filtro" gracias a él me he echado unas buenas risas, Ollie da un buen contrapunto, aunque se le podría haber sacado mucho más partido a su aversión al mundo exterior. Sí me gustaría conocer más a Luis, me ha parecido un personaje súper interesante, ojalá tenga libro propio y no se limite a ser un secundario durante toda la serie.
