A Clan of Novaks by Bella Forrest is the twenty-fifth release in the spellbinding A Shade of Vampire Series and has totally left me breathless - again! Like thousands of my fellow Shaddicts around the world, I've been hooked from the very first book of the series and now anxiously await each new release. And it's no surprise that Bella has delivered another riveting adventure that curls our toes, makes our hearts pound and keeps us begging for more! This is a beautifully written young adult supernatural/fantasy/adventure saga unlike anything I've ever read. The story is well crafted, imaginative, thrilling, fast paced, action packed, suspenseful, sweet, romantic and at times, also dark and mysterious. Whew, what a mouthful, but these are only a few of the words that come to mind after reading this incredible chronicle of the Shade, its inhabitants and their enemies. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the first person with multiple points of view. Each chapter is told by one of the primary characters (and there are many), which I believe gives more depth, intensity and perspective to the story adding vital insight into their thoughts, fears and motivations. The dialogue is smart, well executed and flows effortlessly. Although the premise and plot for the series is intriguing as well as compelling, it's truly the magnificent cast of larger than life characters that makes the biggest impact. They are well developed, fascinating, captivating, engaging, endearing and quite literally, out of this world! They explode from the pages, grab your imagination, capture your heart and hold you completely and totally enthralled from beginning to end. Forrest skillfully combines all of these elements to craft a beautifully written paranormal romance filled to the brim with danger, action, adventure, fantasy, mystery, suspense, magic, supernatural beings, loyalty, heartbreak, betrayal, angst, hope, passion, love and plot twists that will blow your mind. After twenty-five books in a series, some might think the story has grown old and stale, but nothing could be farther from the truth. After reading all twenty five books, there are two things I've learned beyond a shadow of a doubt. First, when reading anything written by Bella Forrest, always expect the unexpected and two, absolutely nothing is ever impossible as we've all witnessed time and time again. In each book Forrest writes, she takes her readers on an emotional and thrilling roller coaster ride unlike any other, one that keeps us on the edge of our seat and riveted to each page while screaming, "OMG - that didn't just happen!" And the icing on the cake, Forrest's books are always well edited, professionally formatted and have gorgeous covers! I'm not a professional reviewer but I know what I like, what I love and what I don't and I love this series! I've never experienced anything like it. After reading A Bridge of Stars, the conclusion of Ben and River's story, I could not stop myself from wondering, where will Forrest take her readers next and how in the world will she ever top her last book. But never fear, my friends, Forrest has once again exhibited her exceptional talent, skill and imagination by giving us yet another exciting new adventure.

Premise:
Almost twenty years have passed since former vampire and now fae Ben Novak, Prince of The Shade, married the beautiful half blood River Giovanni, in a multiple wedding ceremony hosted by the dragons in The Hearthlands. And much has changed in those years. The King and Queen of The Shade, Derek and Sophia Novak, are now proud grandparents, thrice over and many of the other residents are also proud parents. Wow! Time really flies, doesn't it? Ben and River Novak have one seventeen year old half fae daughter, Grace. Caleb and Rose Achilles have two human children, Hazel, age fifteen, and Benedict, age twelve. Kiev and Mona Novalic have one seventeen year old son named Brock who is half warlock. Witches Ibrahim and Corrine have been blessed with a lovely seventeen year old full blooded witch daughter named Arwen. Claudia and Yuri have an eighteen year old human daughter, Ruby. Even the dragon residents of The Shade are flourishing. Dragon shifter Jeriad and his human wife Sylvia now have a son, handsome strapping nineteen year old half dragon Heath who can't shift but can breath fire. And there have many other happy unions among the residents. Aiden and Kailyn have been married for almost twenty years. Abby and Erik also took the plunge along with Micah and Kira, Eli and Shayla and the two Jinn, Aisha and Horatio. And not surprisingly, ice dragon Lethe also has a human bride and now resides inside the protective boundaries of The Shade. Even Lucas Novak is a thriving resident of The Shade community as well as a productive member of the family and he and Derek have been able to form a close, rewarding familial relationship. And of course, we all remember the birth of Xavier and Vivienne's beautiful daughter, Victoria Vaughn near the end of Ben and River's Story. But as much as things have changed, there are still many things that have remained the same including The Shade's many enemies. A team of warriors has been carefully chosen from the residents of The Shade to fight those enemies and dubbed as The Shadow League or TSL with Ben Novak as Commander and Derek Novak as Commander in Chief. They've been granted an arsenal of technologically advanced weapons along with authority from the government to fight the Bloodless and other malevolent supernaturals who have invaded the human realm. Unfortunately, the Hunters organization has grown as well. They are now known as the International Bureau for Supernatural Investigations aka IBSI and supposedly, also working as a representative of the government to fight the Bloodless and rogue supernaturals in the human realm with their authority surpassing that of even the FBI and CIA. But as always, the Hunters aka IBSI still seem to have a hidden agenda and as in the past, still pose a serious threat to not only the residents of The Shade, but to all supernaturals in every realm. Oh my! The man at the root of it all is Bradley Thornton of the IBSI and not surprisingly, he and his organization of Hunters still seem to hate the residents of The Shade and take advantage of every opportunity to covertly eliminate them.

In this adventure, we find beautiful and still very human nineteen year old Victoria Vaughn as one of only two human members of The Shadow League. Victoria is a newly inducted member along with four of her friends, Arwen, Brock, Heath and Grace. They have finally been allowed to accompany the team on a mission resulting in a dangerous showdown with the IBSI, one which almost cost the lives of several members of their team. Derek realizes that something is very wrong and determined to discover what other dastardly deeds Thornton is planning. The Shadow League embarks on an unauthorized fact-finding mission and attempts to infiltrate an IBSI facility. Arwen and Victoria discover a mysterious portal to another realm just outside the facility along with a large cage holding a badly beaten and battered but still very handsome young man who is obviously more than just human. Victoria insists that Arwen use her magic to free the young man who surprisingly admits to being a werewolf. But how is that even possible? It's nighttime and werewolves are forced to transition into their animal forms at sundown but he's still in his human body. Unfortunately, freeing him sets off an alarm resulting in the arrival of ISBI guards and their deadly trained mutant fighters. Victoria is injured and nearly captured but rescued just in the nick of time by the enigmatic former prisoner/werewolf she and Arwen had just freed. Now, a very human Victoria finds herself in The Woodlands realm at the mercy of her mysterious rescuer with her survival now totally dependent upon the handsome werewolf. Oh my!

Prince Bastien Blackhall is a werewolf and an anomaly. He was born not as a human baby but as a wolf pup and spent the first fifteen wolf years of his life in his wolf form, not being able to shift. But once he finally managed his first shift into a human, he could then transform at will and never forced into wolf form each and every night like his brethren. His father had been the leader of The Woodlands Realm Blackhall Tribe until recently when Bastien was forced to witness the murder of his entire family at the hands of The Hunters aka IBSI. Inexplicably, Bastien was not killed but captured, beaten and forced into a cage with no hope of escape - until an unknown and very lovely young human woman appears, seemingly determined to rescue him. When the young woman is injured and nearly captured herself, he knows he must help her. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she's very beautiful and also smells absolutely delicious. Oh my! A new romance is born and here we go again! Beautiful, brave human heroine-check! Handsome werewolf prince-check! A magnificent cast of characters including a new generation of heroes-check! A plethora of supernatural beings including mutants, vampires, werewolves, witches, dragons, ogres, jinn, fae and even a hellhound-you bet! Danger, drama, adventure, suspense, betrayal and malevolent enemies-check! A sweet budding romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Buckle up my lovelies for another exciting new adventure with all our favorite residents of The Shade including a brand new generation of heroes, all working together to battle old enemies along with a few new ones as well. Well what another amazing installment for the Shade. We start with at least 2 decades on from the last book which in the first few pages had me slightly confused lol but once I got to know who was parents to what children it just flowed :-) it's been great catching up with Derek, Sofia , Vivian to name a few we had ben and Rose and caleb its was great to meet there children even though some of them are vampires, witches, fae, dragons etc it must be strange to look about the same age as your parents lol with the supernaturally ability to stop there aging process when going from human to vampire and back as an example ;-). Anyway with the shades inhabitants now working along side the outside humans and government namely the IBSI no more than glorified Hunters with special abilities and full sanction things are not going to go as smoothly as we think. Derek of course knows only to well the hunters have other intentions and when his niece is supposedly kidnapped during an expedition to IBSI headquarters things are going to take a rough turn meaning the supernaturals will be fighting yet again against the outside human race:-( . But this time I think there's even more to Derek and the Novaks and all supernaturals of the shade. This time around they won't be fighting to save themselves this time there be fighting to keep there children and there childrens children future safe as well. And the worse mistake Folwer from IBSI has made is saying ... Novak were letting you go TSL is no longer an official body.. Yeah right bad mistake

Next generation!

I was blown away reading this book. Now the kids of The Shade are grown up.

Almost 20 years has passed and now Derek and Sofia are grandparents. Rose and Ben have children, Corrine and Ibrahim have a daughter, Jeriad, the dragon has a son, and Vivienne and Claudia both have daughters, while Mona has a son.

The world has become saturated with supernatural and the residents of The Shade are apart of a justice league that protects the world. But the hunters have strayed, they stopped protecting and are slowly killing what they deem as a threat.

In assignment with Grace, Ben's daughter, Victoria, Vivienne's daughter, Heath, Jeriad's son, and Arwend, Corrine's daughter, and Mona's son, Brock; the kids stumble on a captured werewolf. They free him but Vicky falls and he rescued her by taking her into the werewolf realm.

Bastian's whole family was murdered by the hunters and he returns back to his lair only to see he was betrayed by his own cousin for the thrown. He called the hunters to kill the royal bloodline. Now Bastian is rallying up wolves to save his world. Only one wolf in particular wants Vicky gone, his aunt. Bastian is betrothed to her daughter and the faster Vicky is gone the better.

When her family track her down, the hunters show up as well and Bastian believes his aunt that Vicky is apart of them. Which leaves the poor girl devastated as the witches take her back home.

what a new adventure now the kids are grown and some have their own kids well have to give it the fact i really like victoria vivienne child i think she is the best human ever written about in this whole series and i do think this is a new branch to explore at first it was hard as i had to go back to rad who had whom as far as the children were concerned but to start a new chapter i thin it was extremely well done on choosing the character to begin with ..as this is the first in the series even though the story has been ot five days now i really do not want to give this away other than the first character being vivienne daughter and everybody who has read this series knows vivienne is such a wonderful character and to start a new series with her daughter it can not go wrong great job bella forrest you did it again and people who have read your series will love this next series as the family grows

Alors, le temps a bien passé depuis le dernier tome et la plupart de nos héros ont vieilli et surtout se sont reproduits... Le nombre d'enfants des différents couples est d'ailleurs assez énorme ce qui multiplie les nouveaux personnages. A l'extérieur de leur île les choses ont bien changé aussi... les surnaturels ont fait leur coming out, sous l'effet des fameux vampires zombies découverts dans les tomes précédents et Derek coopère à présent avec les Chasseurs (rebaptisés pour l'occasion et toujours aussi retors, ce qui fait que leur collaboration ne résistera pas à ce tome). Du coup Derek, Sofia, Lucas, Ben, River, Caleb, Rose et tout tout les autres forment à présent une sorte de brigade de sauvegarde des humains... Lors d'une mission (dans laquelle ils intègrent cinq des rejetons ), la fille de Vivienne, Victoria est séparée du reste de sa famille après être passée dans un portail qui mène au monde des loups garous. Là, elle découvre Bastien qui est enfermé et une base secrète des Chasseurs qui éliminent des loups garous innocents. Du coup, bah voilà... Victoria tombe amoureuse de Bastien et le reste suit son cours....

“Because one simply can’t fire a Novak”

I was apprehensive about this one when starting the first chapter, there was so many new characters and trying to remember who’s had children and who belonged to who etc seemed so daunting. Once the storyline focused in on bastien and Victoria I felt a lot more settled.
That said I did enjoy the relationship between Corrine and Kiev’s children hehe and it was nice to witness a new type of female lead in Victoria.
Bastien I have grown to like more and more, to begin with I thought it would be a predictable character but his trust torn nature between feeling love and being honourable to his family is endearing. It was surprising to not have him join the shade at the end of the book as so many others have done.

Brucella is a good female villain that I love to hate and I hope that bastien cousin gets a dose of the shade in the next installment.

I cannot wait to see what happens next. It’s not to be left second guessing the next part of the plot. I definitely hope bastien is alive and that the mutants haven’t taken out all of the wolf tribes.

America had morphed into a new land. A land marked by a myriad of supernaturals, yet shared with mundane humans. A multitude of incompatible races, living as one.

The government are taking over and whilst The Shade have been enlisted can they still call themselves A Clan of warriors, fighters and survivors or are they pretending to have free will at the hand of the governments demands.

In a world where the final boundaries are falling, there is an unknown fight going on to save ones home and somehow the children of The Shade have been sucked into it.

~ I absolutely love the new characters & meeting all The Shades children! This book predominantly develops Victoria’s character and I can’t wait to learn whether she will be the girl her parents want or a woman she chooses to be

One special wolf

Decades later and the boundaries between earth and the supernatural world are blurred. Its utter chaos and destruction. In the this new world the hunters are known as the IBSI and they are tasked with ridding the world of all supernaturals among other things. They are absolutely brutal. An elite group of members from the shade is also formed to work with the government in order to also help protect the humans. A new batch of recruits, which consists of some the members kids, go on their first mission and after an encounters with IBSI things spiral out of control which leads them to the woodlands and a whole new mess of problems. I am loving the new turn this series is heading in and this new world everyone is living in. I have no idea where things are headed but I cant wait to find out.

It's interesting to see yet another generation of Novak's, along with many other characters we were introduced to having their own kids too. It jumps forward about 20 years and the human realm is in complete chaos with the bloodless overrunning it. Turns out these hunters may be up to more than just helping the government, they have an agenda of their own. This is where the league comes in, confident once again they'll save the day and all will end well. We see a lot of Victoria in this book, the daughter of Vivian and Xandar. She is a human still and having jumped through a portal to save herself from hunters she gets separated from her companions. She has to rely on a werewolf she freed earlier to repay the favor.... they become fast friends.

There is no series that will ever hold my heart like this one does! I am only 25 books in, and I take some time after each Series to let myself process the material... but every time I open up the next book, I am reminded of how attached I have become to these characters and how much they have all grown throughout these stories.

Bella Forrest captures characters & their journeys better than any author I have never had the pleasure of reading. I am so invested in the Novak’s journey, and can’t wait to see where this family and The Shade are in another 100 years!

Ambiguous Ending....

Victoria met Bastien, only to have the book ending with them separated. Even though we met Derek, Sofia, Ben, Grace, Lucas etc., majority of the action was centred on Victoria and Bastien. It is also confusing to grasp what happened at the end. Why will Bastien doubt Victoria so much that he will not go with her to the Shade as he has lost his entire family? Well, am kind of fed up with this series.

Amazing once again Bella Forrest has made me hate, love, and want to slap characters all in a few chapters. It is almost like you are there living this story with them. This book was amazing, I enjoy it so much and I read it pretty fast. The new characters are interesting and I love it the chemistry between Bastian and Victoria. Arwen, Brock and Heath are pretty funny and Grace i think she's so sweet. I hate so much a Brucella for trying to separate Bastian from Victoria. And What will hunters be hiding? It has me very intrigued. Definitely, was a great book.

Another fantastic book. In this book you meet the main Character’s children and they are just as cool as their parents. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
