Paranormal Investigator Vanessa Meadows believes in every kind of magic except love.

When her new boss sends her on an assignment to remote Caithness, Scotland, she’s determined to do whatever it takes to prove the Vampire of Barrogill is more than a legend. First, however, she must get inside the castle where the entity is believed to dwell.

Castle Barrogill belongs to Callum Lyon, a handsome baron and reclusive political astrologer. Their strong mutual attraction proves a boon to Vanessa’s plans, but, once inside his castle, she encounters more paranormal activity than she bargained for. There’s no vampire, but there is a blood-drinking faery knight—and a ghost who will stop at nothing to keep her there. Will freedom-loving Vanessa’s feelings for Callum, coupled with nudges from the other side, be enough to persuade her to give him a chance? Or will the dark secrets of Castle Barrogill only reinforce her unwillingness to put her faith in the power of love?

An interesting read about shape shifting fairies, ghosts, paranormal investigators and politics.

Vanessa Bentley should lead a happy life, she has everything from money to beauty, except love. She’s loveless and feels unlovable. But finding love is not on her to do list, finding vampires as part of her paranormal investigative career is. Will she find her elusive vampire when she heads to Castle Barrogill, or will she discover something else, something so incredible she couldn’t have imagine, including love, altogether?
“Why have you closed your heart? …I’d rather chase the mirage than die alone without hope in the desert.”

At first sight, Callum Lyon seems to be a strikingly handsome reclusive author who writes about the stars. But he’s hiding close to 500 years of secrets, including the ghost of his first wife, his faery knight nature which and the fact that he’s never found true love or been loved. Can the attraction between him and Lady Vanessa overcome the secrets among them?

I really liked the world building Nina Mason established for this series and was amazed with the amount of historical and mythological detail as well as descriptions about the beautiful landscape she gives us. She includes all the elements necessary for a great paranormal read and it’ll be interesting to see how the overall arc develops.

What I had a little trouble with were the subplots that didn’t directly revolve around Callum and Vanessa’s romance or rather the parts which I felt took away from their relationship, specifically the politics.

I was also put off by Vanessa’s incongruence. She repeatedly stated her deep concern for the environment, love for animals while supporting PETA and fiercely proclaiming she wanted to do something that mattered, to make a difference… while chasing ghosts and vampires? He career choice simply did not line up with her concerns. To further my irritation with her, she equated being a strong and independent woman to living a lonely, loveless life. For all her independence I felt she was lacking some common sense and maturity.

While their story was interesting during the first half of their story during which their paranormal world was introduced and Callum and Vanessa met, got to somewhat know one a another and have copious amounts of sex, I found it really difficult to enjoy the read after she had a huge tantrum because life gave her lemons and she refused to find a way to make lemonade. I guess you could say I wasn’t a fan.
“I would never ask you to choose between me and your freedom nor try to change the things that make you beautiful and unique. And, quite frankly, it hurts me deeply to know you believe I would.” ~ Callum to Vanessa

Even though I felt like I was pulled in different directions, Miss Mason did recapture my attention with the overall series plot at the end and I’m sincerely curious about what’s next.

Starry Knight is the first book in the Knights of Avalon series by Nina Mason. It is a standalone, full-length, paranormal romance. Told from both points of view, with a happy ending.

Starry Knight was a good start to a new paranormal romance series. The overall story and premise was strong which has amazing potential become a favorite read for me. There was a shifter, faery, vampire, ghost and the human element all proposed with a unique and very original view on their creation. For that reason alone, kudos to Nina Mason.

For the story, it was a little slow at times going but absolutely found it to be enjoyable and entertaining enough for me to definitely want to continue on.

I received this ARC copy of Starry Knight from Kensington Books - Lyrical Press in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication August 4, 2015.

I really wanted to like this. The cover is great, the blurb is better. Unfortunately not every book was written for every reader, and that is the case here. I didn't like Callum, and boy, did I want to! He's an Avalon Knight, he's a shifter (who can take any shape), he's a Highland Lord, he wears kilts and suits like he created them, he's a romantic (except when he's just shagging anything in a skirt...more on that later), he's an astrologer...yeah, he's pretty much every alpha male that has ever been featured in a book.

I really disliked Vanessa. She was a "strong, independent woman." And by that she means she doesn't need a man for anything...well, anything but sex. She a vegetarian...who becomes a blood drinker, but not really a vampire. Okay? What? Yeah...lots of confusion here.

Both Callum and Vanessa begin to cheat on the other. They pull back...until Vanessa doesn't. Not my idea of fun. And he really forgave her pretty quickly and she really didn't responsibility, either! I was pretty much cringing at those scenes.

This author was building a world and there were so many threads, it was hard to keep track of where the book was going. It was a paranormal romance! It was a history lesson! It was a story about one man who was going to run for office and change the world for the better...or at least change Scotland for the better. It was about Avalon and the hideous Queen Morgana! It was about a woman who saw ghosts...but mostly didn't...and didn't trust men, but Callum was going to teach her to trust.

There was just too many things going on, and none of them were really done well. There is a lot of sex between these two. I finally started skimming. If either one of them, or even the GHOST, would have sat down and had a frank chat early on...it wouldn't have felt so messy. For pages and pages Callum and Vanessa are at odds, are at opposite ends of the world...and then when they are face to face they figure out their issues in something like three sentences. Really? Why didn't y'all do that much earlier? Sigh...

There is a lot of setting-up for the next book, and who knows where that OTHER new vampire guy is going to be? Didn't seem like he was going to be the star of the next book. That's going to be some guy barely mentioned here.

I really wanted to like this. Had to force myself to finish. I kept wanting to like it more...I really did.

Thank you, Lyrical Press and Netgalley, for the opportunity to read this book

Favorite Quotes:

“He’d taken up astrology to please his father – an impossible task – but also to please himself. Heavenly bodies were mysterious, beautiful, and unfathomable – not unlike womankind.”

“Her skin felt sticky, there was film on her teeth, and, given that she’d slept with her make-up on, she probably resembled a raccoon.”

“Money was merely the means to an end. The true root of all evil was selfishness.”

“Opening her suitcase, Vanessa rummaged through the things she’d packed in search of her ‘little black Maserati’ – so named because it hugged every curve with style and class.”

“It is better to forget than to remember with regret.”

“Squinting, she made out a big blue pick-up truck – the kind with elevated wheels only Americans with tiny penises drove.”

My Review:

I seldom read paranormal and was initially hesitant to sign on for this book, but given that I have only had rave reviews for the author’s previous works - I wanted to give it a go. I am ever so glad I did. Nina Mason has never failed to entertain AND educate me. I always feel as if I’ve gained IQ points after reading her work as I typically walk away with at least five new words to add to my vocabulary. Her writing is richly detailed, marvelously descriptive, and is a tasteful and luxurious feast of words. She creates highly sensual scenes that are well finessed and leave me breathless, I want to call it elegant smut… can we lobby for that to become a trend? With Starry Knight, she has taken folklore and mythology, created a unique cast of characters, and woven a delightful modern-day tale that I did not want to quit. The story was highly creative, flowed smoothly, and felt lavishly textured and posh. I adored it and see it as one of those series that can go on and on into infinity… just saying…

ARC REVIEW

Starry Knight is the first book to Nina Mason's Knights of Avalon series. I really wanted to like this one unfortunately it wasn't what I expected. The blurb was just vague enough that it wasn't how I thought it would play out. I pictured a brooding recluse in a Scottish Highlands Castle and a reluctant socialite trying to start a career as a paranormal investigator. But what it doesn't tell you is that the recluse is a well known author and a string puller for the Scottish Parliament. The socialite is going to work for a vampire hunter in in New Orleans. I figured most of the story would be centered on Callum hiding the truth about who he is and Vanessa trying to figure it out as they fall more and more in love. That kinda happened, the first half-ish of the story and then the rest was annoying filler. The only really interesting is the Avalon aspect and their wasn't near enough of that in the book. I can see the potential of Avalon in the other books, but this one wasn't even a very good intro for that.

Callum died on the battlefield and was returned to the living by Queen Morgan Le Fay and used as breeding drone. After 200 years Callum was sentenced to death for only siring male children. He was aided in escape learned how to change his form. When he returned home it was all different. Hiding from the Queen he stayed in hiding and survived another couple of centuries.

Vanessa doesn't want to be a disappointment to her parents but as political family she finds no joy in it what they want for her. She wants to study the paranormal and has recently taken a job as an assistant to a Paranormal investigator in New Orleans but first she wants to uncover the vampire living in Castle Barrogill. She never expected to fall into lust so quickly with the owner. She also found the ghost that has been haunting the castle for 500 years who told her the truth about everything. Now with the information she was seeking and her newfound love for Callum she struggles with what to do.

Overall, I what I did enjoy was a couple of chapters out of the whole book. I am curious about the books to come because that has piqued my interest. This book just didn't do it for me.

“I’d rather chase the mirage than die alone without hope in the desert.” – Starry Knight

*Advance reader copy received through NetGalley*

Nina Mason has created a fantastic world for her Knights of Avalon series. Starry Knight is the first book in the series, focusing on the willful daughter of a British aristocrat and politician and what seems to be an astrologer and author…but in this case looks are very deceiving. Scottish-born Callum Lyon has been around for quite a while, was altered and granted immortality after the Battle of Flodden Field (1513), and has definitely experienced almost all that life has had to offer – except love. Vanessa Bentley is ready to take a step towards independence by becoming a paranormal investigator, which will also give her a chance to embrace her supernatural gift. Before leaving the UK, Nina is sent on a mission to Callum’s neck of the woods to investigate rumor of a vampire living in…coincidentally…the same castle where Callum currently resides.

This book has an amazing amount of detail. You can tell based on the descriptions of the areas and events that the author has carefully researched the background that she uses, from the clan rivalry to the scenery. The idea of alternate realms and other species is also fascinating, and Mason manages to bring a new spin to an older setup. The physical aspect of the romance in this book moved a little faster than I was expecting for a work just shy of 300 pages. Both characters are very comfortable in their own sexuality, but I felt that maybe there was a little too much fuel on the fire (for me) at the very beginning. There were also choices made by the heroine that I definitely questioned, especially after the two main characters ignite, then Vanessa kind of splits off to do her own thing after altering Callum’s life… Despite my own reservations, I know that this story has exactly what a lot of PNR fans and readers are looking for, and I am excited to see where the author takes the series.

# 1 in a New Paranormal Romance "The Knights of Avalon". While, this story will not be for every reader, I found it enjoyable, engaging and entertaining. Not all the characters where my favorites, but were needed to carry the story, I believe. Ms Mason did a wonderful job on world building, since this was a Paranormal Romance there were many facets to the story with a wide variety of characters. There were faries, Knights, Ghosts, shapeshifters, mythology, politics, Paranormal investigators and passion. Told from different points of view.
The reader will either love this tale or hate it, but personally, I found it was entertaining. I actually disliked the heroine immensely. She was a bit to arrogant, and a bit too condescending, but the hero apparently saw something more.
Ms Mason is a talented storyteller who shows impeccable writing skills, excellent world building and her sensual scenes are very explosive and the sparks fly off the pages. Hot, steamy and explosive. Simply put, "Starry Knight" will keep the reader entertained. An enjoyable read! I look forward to the next adventure. Ms Mason's tale will keep the reader engaged. Fans of Paranormal, Faries, Mythology, shapeshifters, suspense and Romance will enjoy "Starry Knight".

Fantastic !!!!!!! This book is a combination of paranormal romance, that moved through time. Callum is a vampire with a twist. He has been used by many and his coming a vampire is different then the normal story. So he is a very smart and sexy man that has urges that he represses. Enter Venessa who is a product of privilege and as a lot of women raised in this style she is a bit of a rebel. They meet and chemistry takes over and the story gets hot and heavy. Can they both overcome many things for love ?? The book has a great story plot not just a romance. It is rich in history and detail as only Nina Mason can put on paper. I loved this book and look forward to more

Starry Night, an interesting and full mystery read!
Interesting concept and the characters are easy to like.
The characters, Vanessa and Callum are good.
Vanessa, a noblewoman who has a reputation and a paranormal investigator.
Callum, a nobleman (human) once, but things changed when he was brought to Avalon.
With Vanessa investigates if there's a vampire in the Castle Barrogill, both will face interesting challenges that will make the story more interesting and full of thrill!
Loved the story and all.

Let me introduce you to Callum Lyon. a very hot yummy man , who is also a astrologer and a fairy knight . He is happy in his life until he meets the beautiful Vanessa, a paranormal investigator who wants to find the vampire of Castle Barrogill. Sparks fly and wow oh wow what can I say . We they find the love that they both want and need or will they shine like the stars and fizzle out .
Wow Nina has done it again , she has written a book that is both sexy and thoughtful . She takes us on a journey from Avalon to modern day Scotland. We have star crossed lovers and some political intrigue all in one book. She takes through the land of the fairy with such ease . I wonder sometimes if she isn't a fairy herself . She writes it so well. She really did her research on this book
The two main characters Callum and Vanessa are very strong characters . Callum has only wanted revenge for what happened to his wife and child. He took up astrology to please his father and he is really good at it . He has become a recluse because of what he is. He is oh so handsome and who wouldn't love a Scottish accent . He is intrigued with the very beautiful Vanessa , a poor rich girl , who is trying to make it as a paranormal investigator .She is very independent and doesn't want a relationship but when they get together sparks fly. They are drawn to each other and they can't deny that they belong together . But will they come together. or will the star crossed lovers ever be together. There is a cast of characters that help both of them out to realize that they do belong together. Loved the ghost of his first wife who does everything in her power to make sure they belong together .
Nina mixes modern politics and the world of fairies , vampires an shifters with such ease . She takes us on such a fun filled ride. There are hot and I mean hot sex in this book but it also makes you think about the political aspect of world today . I got a book hang over reading this book , I just couldn't put it down. Nina writes with such a grace that makes reading her books so easy . You get sucked in by the hot yummy men but then you start to care and want them happy. Trust me you will love this book . So Please check out STARRY KNIGHT . You will get a book hang over and love every second of it .

OMG HAS MS MASON DONE IT AGAIN THIS TIME WITH A PARANORMAL!!!!
^^^^ I received an ARC from this very talented and amazing author Nina Mason; in exchange for an honest opinion. This is Mismousey's very honest opinion of her book "STARRY KNIGHT".
OMG has Ms. Mason taken her creativity to another limit with this book. Having read her books- The Devil in Dukes's Clothing, Bedeviled Bride, along with her other books.
Ms.Mason has a unique way in which she takes her pen to paper and creates this magical story of a lion and his lioness. Who are in fact part vampires. Her creativity has reached beyond the limits of imagination. The characters-scenes all jump right off the page at you.
Starry Knight is about a vampire who is hiding from a queen as he is her drone. If he is found then he will be put to death. Along time ago he escapes the Avalon and has been in hiding since then. His name is Callum- he is a Knight and a Lord. They want him to run for office - however he has other ideas.
Madama Butterfly comes into his life and only wants to met the vampire of the castle. The ghost of the castle -Callum late's wife has other ideas. She wants her late husband to find true love and she believe she has in Madama Butterfly. ( Vanessa) . Ms. Vanessa tells Callum some of her cono with the ghost but not all
Now as this story gets going we find out that Callum can transform into a mighty lion. That is part of his mystic - he wants Vanessa and needs her.
So what happens to this couple? Do they get together? Does she keep his secret?
This story is so full of surprise that you have to read this amazing book to find out. It so many twist and turns in it. As soon as you get thru one you are placed right into another. Which makes this not only the PERFECT BOOK- BUT A PERFECT PARANORMAL READ !!!
Ms. Mason has done a super job at keeping the reading on their toes in this one. I recommend it for all readers especially those that love a FANG-TASTIC PARANORMAL READ!! Mismousey gives this book a 70 out of 5 stars . And I look forward to reading more in this AWESOME-TERRIFIC-AMAZING-FANG-TASTIC SERIES!!

I found this story wonderfully written. The base story is a great romp through time and history, the Fae world, and the modern world. Callum has come a long way since he was born. Married twice, he is hesitant to enter into any lasting relationship. He can still feel the presence of his first wife haunting his home, Castle Barrogill. He is completely interested in a fling, though, and is drawn to Vanessa from the moment their eyes meet at a signing for his newest novel. Both are of blue blood, she is a paranormal investigator, against her parents ideals and wishes, but Callum does not know that yet. She has everything a person could have to be happy, except love. She has no interest in finding it either! She has ulterior motives to investigate the rumor of a Vampire living at the castle, but she is also very much interested in an affair.
The question is, what happens when he finds out why she is really there. I don't want to spoil the book, that is the hardest part of writing reviews, you never want to give anything away, but you can't extol the virtues of a great book without spoilers sometimes! So please, read the excerpt and the blurb for more information on the book.

This story takes us through the Faery world, the Vampire world, the Politics of Scotland, and the UK, all the way to the New Orleans paranormal scene. Each place was very well described, I felt like I was there looking at the castle, and the places they ventured, and also I could picture the beautiful homes in the garden district of Old New Orleans. The author has a way with her descriptions that make you picture them, but also let you use your own imagination.
The relationship between the 2 main characters was a hard nut to crack, but the author also did this very well, I was on pins and needles a few times!
I can't wait for the next book!
I received a copy of this title in exchange for my honest review
This book also has a heat rating of 4 out of 5!

If you are a fan of paranormal romance be sure to check out Nina Mason's Starry Knight, the first book in her new "Knights of Avalon" series. There's a simmering eroticism that permeates every corner of every chapter, whilst introducing us to enticing new characters, an exciting developing plot line, and a refreshingly original permutation on mythical creatures.

Notice I used the word "whilst"? Get used to it. Because our newest hero is Callum Lyon, Baron of Barrogill, a sexy, virile, and immortal Scot who fought at the side of King James IV in the 16th century. He speaks funny, but only to those of us who are not familiar with Scots or Gaelic.

Lying on the brink of death at the Battle of Flodden Field he was rescued by a Faery handmaiden of Morgan La Fey, the evil Queen of Avalon. He becomes a drone to the Queen, his sole purpose in her hive being that of a sex slave. Eventually he escaped but not before becoming Fae himself. Now living in modern day Scotland he writes about astrology, but otherwise keeps a low profile while sating his need for blood and sex.

Along comes the lovely and delectable Lady Vanessa Bentley. She seeks out Lord Barrogill in hopes of investigating a rumour that there is a vampire living in his castle. It turns out that they are infinitely sexually compatible as well. Are they "meant to be"? Well, the ghost of Callum's first wife seems to think so.

Nina Mason sets up an intriguing plot involving modern politics and thither-worldly rebellion. Along the way she treats us to her unique ideology on fairies (definitely not Tinkerbell here), vampires, shape-shifters and many more legendary creatures from the Old World stories. I had so much fun, I couldn't put this book down! I'll be looking out for the next one.

Welcome to the magical, mysterious tour of The Knights of Avalon, the first book in Nina Mason’s new paranormal series. Lord Callum Lyon has many secrets, and although a writer he manages to keep a rather low profile in his Scottish castle. But a request from a friend could change all that: Callum is a staunch nationalist and he is considering running for office. He has not been seriously involved with a woman in a long time, but the beautiful Lady Vanessa Bentley might change his mind. The attraction between the two is palpable, but Vanessa gets attached to no one, and Callum is a romantic; it could be difficult to see eye to eye. But the biggest hurdle is that Vanessa wants to get invited to Callum’s castle; there are rumours that a vampire roams the halls and Vanessa is in Scotland to investigate. Can love bloom between those two independent people, or will fate and their respective secrets keep them separate?

Ms. Mason has built a rich and complex mythology, which is the foundation of this exciting series, and STARRY KNIGHT is but the beginning. Vanessa and Callum are fabulous characters, seemingly totally different, and yet… Vanessa is a strong, independent woman and Callum is one of the most romantic and respectful heroes I have read in recent years. And let's not forget the steamy sex either. The author has crafted a very intricate story, with many layers that tie in with several characters, which leaves much to look forward to in the future.

Ms. Mason’s writing is as impeccable as ever: elegant, descriptive, smooth and fluid. An exhilarating start to what promises to be a fabulous series!

This book has it all. Paranormal, shape shifting, ghosts and fairies at their best… It was simply an enjoyable fun loving mixture. I am ready to go to Castle Barrogill for my own kooky adventure.

Vanessa a paranormal investigator is in search of the vampire said to live in Castle Barrogill…Callum the vampire has been hiding out in the castle for 500 years or so. Unlucky in love he is. He is known as a very handsome author who has become a recluse over the years. Callum’s second wife is a ghost while he didn’t actually love her for some strange reason she is still around. I found myself falling for Callum. Fairy Knights…such an interesting group of misfits. Very endearing indeed…

Ms. Mason paid great detail to the history of the time bringing everything to life. Detail to the castle and scenery made the visualization real so much so I am packed and ready to go. She researched her mythology also which added to the overall storytelling showing me or making me believe in the well written characters to where I was able to see them, feel them, making them come to life for me. I enjoyed every detail even though at times I felt the story drag a bit. I was able to keep going because I wanted to find out what would happen next.

I found this to be a very entertaining and interesting take on what I thought to be a historical romance with a twist. I can’t wait for another story from this fun author.

I received a copy of this story for an honest review for The Reading Room Blog.

Mysterious astrologer Callum has always kept his secrets close to the vest, after all being an ageless vampire isn't something one touts. But when tabloid favorite Lady Vanessa comes looking for the vampire of Castle Barrogill will Callum turn her away or bring her into his dangerous but seductive world.

What I Loved: Callum's back story is fascinating and I loved how his concept of love and relationships slowly evolved from dominant male to loving partner over his centuries of existence. For him to meet his match in such a modern day free spirit like Vanessa felt humorous but right.

What I Didn't Love: Starry Knight has a lot of complicated mythology and astrological details. If you're not familiar with the information beforehand it may get a little confusing. There is also one section of the story where the leads both pick a course of inaction that left me frustrated.

Favorite Quotes:

"Heavenly bodies were mysterious, beautiful, and unfathomable - not unlike womankind."

"She was air, he fire, and right now, she wanted his light and heat, wanted him to consume her in a crackling blaze."

"Frankly, I'd rather do time in somebody else's prison than one I'd myself."

Starry Knight (The Knights of Avalon #1)
is an interesting historical/paranormal romance that is worth checking out. If there's a follow-up story I will definitely come back to see what happens next.

Happy reading.

Callum our hero died on Flodden Field. He was an astrologer to the Scottish King. The alternative "life".as a Knight of Avalon, he was given didn't quite work out as he thought. Hundreds of years later he is hiding from his Queen, who thinks he is dead.
He is still an astrologer, but everyone knows now that is just rubbish. He is also a shifter who needs blood and sex to survive.
Vanessa is rich girl from an unhappy family. She is determined to never be tied down by any man. Love is just a fairy tale. She has been able to see ghosts since she was a child, and now is going to use that as a new career. The way to start that is to investigate the vampire said to be at a certain Scottish castle.
The main story line is great. Our hero is a very sexy shifter, even if he is a bit chauvinistic. Our heroine is trying so hard to be independent she could lose the best thing to ever happen to her.

I found this just a little long winded in places. I love a long story, but this seems to stretch out unimportant parts and not cover what I think should be covered. I feel that the reason he has a problem with the Sinclair clan should have been explained more , as it pays a role in his present "life".
I will still read any follow up stories.

Starry Knight is a well told story about Ghosts, Vampires, the Fae and Sellie. A Historical combined with Mythology, it tells the tale of a gorgeous reclusive astrologer and a British aristocrat. Lady Vanessa Bentley is the quintessential "Poor little rich girl". She was given everything that money could buy, while being deprived of the things she wanted most--love, affection and approval. She was rebellious and determined to prove her naysayers wrong.

Callum Lyon was once a Faery knight and breeding drone to a Queen. After escaping form her realm, he hid out at Castle Barrogill and became an author and published books on Astrology. While at a book signing, his gaze sets upon the free-spirited Lady Vanessa. She stares at him with the intent to seduce him. She wants to get into Castle Barrogill to find out if the rumors of a vampire in the dungeons is true.

I enjoyed this different approach on the vampire mythos. It was very intriguing and moved at a steady pace. The characters were developed very well and the romance was steamy. Lovers of paranormal romance surely will be entertained. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next one.

Disclaimer: I received a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Starry Knight has just become my new favorite of Nina Mason’s books. Mason has seamlessly combined the Otherworld with the modern one to create a fantastic story. I love how Mason blended qualities of vampires with Arthurian legend; it made for enjoyable, complex characters and a storyline that has me eagerly awaiting the next book. Since I’m a fan of astrology, I liked the emphasis in the book on the characters’ astrological signs. Callum’s Leo nature made him a fiercely loyal alpha male that drew me in, and I couldn’t resist falling in love with. As an Aquarius, Vanessa is a strong, independent character with a disdain for love and settling down. Her attitude toward love coupled with her intriguing career in paranormal investigations makes her an exciting character that I was not ready to leave at the end of the book. I loved spending time in Starry Knight’s world, and I look forward to visiting the world again when the next book is released. I definitely recommend reading it.

I received this in exchange for a real and honest review.
Overall I think this will be a great starter to a new series. I did enjoy this book, but did have a few issues with it.
Callum has MORE than a lifetime of secrets hes hiding, and even a ghost of a first wife.
Vanessa has a (VERY) political family shes trying to not turn into. Instead she would like to turn into a hunter. A para hunter that is... This was one of the weirder parts for me. I am not sure where that comes from.
Callum is hiding from the queen who basically turned him into a breed mule, but became "displeased" with only male children.
So in comes the SEX, and oh man. Its a wonder (truly) that either of them can walk even with their uniqueness..... Not too fond of how each of them handles certain situations. And the final peeve for me was I think Ms. Mason took a little away from teh best parts of the story to focus on the political. If we could tone that and tweak it back into the para parts, I think it would have been perfect. I would recommend this book.

She has taken folklore and mythology, created a unique cast of characters, and woven a delightful modern-day tale that I did not want to quit. The story was highly creative, flowed smoothly, and felt lavishly textured and posh. I adored it and see it as one of those series that can go on and on into infinity… just saying…

Great Story, Great Characters **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**
Callum had been a knight and a baron who had been mortally wounded but Belphoebe made him a special drink and he healed. Then she took him to Avalon, but then Callen was to be sacrificed and Belphoebe once again rescued him. When he got back home, he found out that 2 centuries had passed.
Vanessa was very independent and a rebel against her family. She didn't believe in love or being romantic. She felt nobody could love her or ever had, even her parents. Then she made sure of a meeting with Callum. She was an excellent character that grew through this story. Callum was a romantic. He was a good man. He was loyal and kind to those he cared for, especially Vanessa. I loved how he was so manly and yet insecure about Vanessa and his feelings for her. He was another great character, as they all were.
It was an awesome plot and overall story. I highly recommend it.

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Nina Mason. This is book 1 of the Knights of Avalon series by the author.

Callum Lyon was a knight durring the battle of Flodden Field in the year 1513. Gravely wounded he is saved and taken to Avalon to serve the queen as a drone. Having escaped Avalon 500 years later he now is an author and is intrigued by a woman, Lady Vanessa. Vanessa Bentley seeks out the paranormal and she is looking for a vampire but instead finds Lord Lyon and her life is never the same again.

I loved the characters and how well they worked together in this story. The author gave the story a great flow to it from start to finish and it was hard to put down once I started reading.

This is for mature paranormal romance book lover who loves the Scottish element in their story.

Copy received via Netgalley.

I did enjoy this book. Paranormal is not my normal first choice of genre, but as I adore this authors Historical Erotic Novels I thought I would give this a go.

I enjoyed the myth and legends side of the story and the growing relationship between Callum and Vanessa but what I did not like was the 'political' side of the story - although it is not the whole story at all - in my opinion it took up too much time. (And YES, before anyone asks I am a Scot, living in Scotland and Yes I did vote in the Referendum and I am sick to the back teeth of it now)
For the mega fans of Paranormal romance this book would tick all the boxes, but however for me, I will be sticking to Nina's Royal Pains series.

This is the first book I’ve read by Nina Mason, and I was impressed by her characters and there was plenty of action and adventure. I am a hugh Paranormal romance fan, and this book did not disappoint!! This is the first book in her The Knights of Avalon series, I am ready for the next one. Vanessa is a British aristocrat who does not ever want to get married. Callum is a faery knight and an astrologer, who is immortal and drinks blood. There is an instant attraction, but they each have their own issues to overcome before they can commit. Their relationship became so steamy, my glasses began to fog up!!! I don’t want to give too much away, but I highly recommend this!!! Bravo Miss Nina on a job well done!!!

I found the story between Vanessa and Callum very interesting. The all consuming lust and combustable attraction between them was very believable and enjoyable to read. Especially considering her line of work and her paranormal abilities. Would she find out who and what he is? I loved the history and the different eras and time periods represented throughout the book. The paranormal aspect of the book was very well written and portrayed excellent throughout. I loved the astrology and their belief in their signs was a major conflict between them. could he possibly let her have a life with him and a career? Will she be able to trust and completely love him? Overall a very enjoyable read.

This book and the next in the series of four were both released today. I read all about Callum Lyon and Vanessa this morning.

Nina Mason is a 'go to' author for me...and not only because I love to read about hot, sexy hunks in kilts (I am Scottish so that is always a bonus).

Nina Mason researches the time, history, places, manner of dress, speech - absolutely everything - to the nth degree; giving her books a reality that you would not expect from an historical, romantic, paranormal novel.

This book is mainly based in Scotland but there is a fair bit of New Orleans as well. It is a great read and a fantastic start to what promises to be an equally great series.
