4.5 stars! I'm not sure I even have adequate words for a review. This series of books swept me away and was not at all what I expected. I did not expect to follow along on this epic journey of love, forgiveness, and acceptance. The world has been decimated by a plague leaving only handfuls of people scattered around. And yet the characters in this book find one another and build a new life. We follow their lives through love, jealousy, secrets, insecurities, and betrayal. I loved watching them all fall in love together. There were some really rough parts to read, and I kept my fingers crossed they would make it through. There was a tiny but very significant part in the third book involved Joseph that I didn't care for, (it seemed very out of character for him!) and that caused me a hiccup in my love for the story. This love story, spanning years, was beautifully written. And that "extended" ending sent me reaching for the tissues.
My star rating covers all 3 books and is a bit misleading. The 1st book should get 5 stars; the 2nd 4, and the 3rd a two or a one. Enjoyed the basic premise of the story, and loved #1, but felt #2 was beginning to drag, while I had no problem putting down the third one for weeks at a time before forcing myself to finish it. I DID read the epilogue, and was saddened by the revelation, but it was a nice finishing touch to their story.
This is a series I'll probably reread at some point, so I might revise my opinion after the next reading.
In a world dominated by zombie apocalypse and government takeovers this story of a post-apocalyptic world was refreshing and exactly what everyone needs. It is a story of love and family, of people coming together in survival but staying together out of commitment and loyalty.
The Last Woman
As the first book in the series it was used to set the scene and introduce the characters we would fall in love with over the pages. Abby and Airen are the fist who appear, meeting within the first pages after each been alone for so long. Unsure of each other at first they take time to find their way into new possibilities - of settling down and making something of their futures together, each with their young ones in tow. Love, or even a relationship, didn't come straight away. They each had pasts that were haunting them, even though most of humanity had been wiped out. Rather they fall into an easy companionship, neither one of them willing to risk spoiling what they have despite their growing feelings for each other. And then enter Joseph. Brought into their lives by tragic coincidence he serves to upset the balance between them. Found unconscious on their lawn, with his little boy, Abby nurses him back to health while growing close to him. Airen however shows his true feelings through frustration and jealousy with eventually leads to what we had all been waiting for - them admitting their feelings for each other and taking that next step. Airen finally accepts Joseph into their close knit group and so begins their exceptional relationship. With crazy kidnappers, a god-worshipping cult and a jealous newcomer time and again the strength of their relationships are put to the test. Each and every time their love for one another wins through and, not only helps them to survive, but helps them to grow their little group and expand on their family.
Falling Together
The second part of the series opens pretty much where the first book left off. Joseph is starting to develop a relationship of his own while hiding his true feelings for both Abby and Airen. The newcomers have settled in well despite off the upheaval they have been through. This book focuses more on the possibilities of who could still be out their, alive, while also dealing with issues of fear and abandonment. Early on Airen leaves with another of their group in an attempt to find family members they believe may have survived the plague. Unknown to Abby he approaches Joseph about looking after her if he does not return. He and Eric encounter issues which delay their return. Back home they have troubles of their own, such as a fire and near fatality. Assuming the worst Abby and Joseph take their relationship to the next level. His unexpected return, while suffering from pneumonia and fighting for his life, causes confusion and guilt. Surprising both Abby and Joseph, but giving us what we had been hoping would happen since part 1, Airen opens up the possibility of bringing Joseph into their relationship. At this point you are completely bought into the characters and their lives. The writing style is simplistic but in that extraordinary way that draws you in. Far from over however the book resolves itself with an unexpected arrival and the in depth view of new emotions that tear at your hearts and leave you aching for the characters. Yet again their love for one another is what gets them through.
Infinite Ties
With the happily ever after occurring in the previous we are left wondering what more could happen. Trust me you will not be disappointed. This book is filled right from the start with drama and suspense and more twists and turns that you could ever imagine. At the centre are the three main characters that you will undoubtedly love and be routing for. This book also involves travel to other place and new people. We are also reintroduced to old favourites. With a gripping storyline and more action this is easily the best book out of the 3, made even better by the fact you can choose with ending to leave it on.
An extremely emotive, beautifully written & character driven portrayal of life after a world wide plague that completely decimates the entire Planet!!
This story tells the worst and best of humanity & all the grey areas in between. How far, in a lawless society, would you go to preemptively protect your loved ones when they've been directly threatened? Surely bigotry has no place in what little is left of the Human Race? Petty jealousy's & coveting isn't going to occur anymore? These are questions & thoughts you'd hope to never face & assume you'd know the answer without thinking ... We are all only Human though!!
My biggest & only gripe about this book is the Author never describes Abby!! We know she's lean with a big juicy butt & has dark hair with red in it when the sun hits it & has chocolate eyes with some gold. But throughout the book we are repeated told, by Abby, how ugly she is & I'd have liked to have been able, even if it was at the end of the book, to have had a visual description of her so we knew whether it just hateful people in her life, if she was unfortunate looking or if she was just an average 'girl next door' who'd been belittled her whole life!! I didn't care which as she was rightly loved, by Airen & Joseph, for who she was, how she treated people & showed compassion & love etc It just would have been nice to know!! 👍
This is a wonderful story of love, heartache, survival, family, fear, acceptance, brutality, hardship, friendship, loss & working together. Mostly it's about Family, Friendships & Love though. There are some really tough chapters, especially in book 1. I know most people don't make it through this book without shedding a lot of tears, ⛔That was your warning⛔😉😂
I definitely recommend this boxset & therefore the individual books also!!
This was a strong story overall. The world building and character building were strong. The fmc and her guys were very human and relatable and the experiences they went through were only a touch overly dramatic. The romance was more sweet than heated, though there were plenty of steamy scenes. I appreciate that Abby (fmc) and her two guys were relatable and strong characters in their own right even without each other. I didn't particularly enjoy how Abby portrayed herself as ugly and no one really contradicts that or says otherwise until closer to the end and while I absolutely agree that all people deserve love, it doesn't lend to the believability of the story to have that character view constantly brought up. I also hated the last 10%. I don't want to leave spoilers but I will say there is an element of cheating and while not intentional it was very upsetting and emotional and to basically have that be where the story ended left me on a sour note instead of an upbeat note. I did ultimately really love Abby, Airen and Joseph but I wanted better closure to their story, even though the author added a few epilogues it still didn't counteract the way the last 10% played out, at least not for me.
This is probably the 7th time I read this book and every time it moves me.The depth of the characters just amazes me. How are able to teach so many valuable lessons to the actions and words of the characters and show their growth process and how effected everyone around them, changing their lives for the better. There are a lot of apocalypse books out there but none of them have the kind of lessons that this 1 does. None of them give you the depth of Interaction that this 1 does. I can honestly see this 1 being a movie and being a runaway hit leaving the audience in tears. You are so incredibly talented. When someone can read a book 7 times and still come away with you lessons learned that's saying something.Thank you for the gift of this story.
All That Remains by S.M. Shade is a book that touched me and gutted me to the core at the same time. I can't express how much I love the characters, Airen, Abby and Joseph and their love for each other. The box set contains all three books in the series, as are: The Last Woman; Falling Together and Infinite Ties. I read the first book and was hooked - I read the book in one sitting, I could't put it down. And I HAD TO read the other books as well and I was so not disappointed. The writing is excellent and I loved the story, the words and the characters. I could easilxy connect with them. I highly recommend the box set and give 5+ stars.
I’m not sure why this series doesn’t have more reviews.
It’s easily become my favorite SM Shade series.
So much heart, grit, eroticism, angst, love, heartache.
We’re reminded that everyone has a past, present, and future. That the past is just that the past. Your past forms your vision on your present, but it’s your future that you can shape. Trust is oftentimes a hard thing to earn, and sometimes even harder to maintain.
I really did not think I would continue reading this book when I got to the second one, but with each page i read the characters became more ingrained in my mind until I wanted to know what happens. It is a beautiful story of the love of three people for each other that transcends the social norms of today. A story that will fill your heart with the love, pain, and forgiveness it takes to make relationships work., No matter the p!ayers.
Great even for the second time I have read this series
When you read you will love hate Abby but read the whole series then you will understand her better. Her husbands are perfect for her I have read this twice once when it was first published an again recently an I have to say it was even better the second time around.. MS Shade I don't think you could write a bad story if you tried I look forward to all your new releases an recommend you to all my friends
There's nothing I can say I disliked about this book. From the very beginning I was hooked and it just got better from there. I've never laughed, cried, got angry, and fell so deeply in love with characters as I did with this book. I just want to re read and re live their lives ask over again. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would.
Usually I don't like post apocalyptic stories, but something made me try it out. Let me tell you, once I started, I couldn't put it down! I loved Airen, Abby & Joseph, but also the other characters. The descriptions of the new world made the story so much richer. It almost felt like you could smell, see & feel everything. It was a wonderful story!
Such a well written comprehensive post apocalyptic romance. Joseph, Airen and Abby were just perfect. I enjoyed this story. It didn't start out well. The beginning didn't really explain the virus and what happened. It took a long time to just explain for instance that Jayla was a found child and not Airens biological daughter.
Can't believe I've never read this before. It mixes my 2 favourite genres!! An amazing read with highs and lows, loves and laughs. Everything you could ask for. I'd give it 6 stars if i could.
I am enamored by this trio, the love and all the range of emotions that poured through the characters that left me unable to walk away ! SM you are so very talented and I can't wait to read more of your work !
This series. WOW! Only one spoiler I will mention. At the very end of the series please stop reading when the book ends. Stay away from the bonus chapter. Let it end so sweetly, I read the bonus chapter and I was in heartbreak and tears. It almost ruined everything for me.
Although i found the first book of this series was slow to start with i continued to read in the hope it would pick up... And omg am i glad I did this series was so good i could barely put it down... I will recommend this series to everyone..
Well written apocalyptic series of books ,thoroughly enjoyable, thank you shady lady for another great read, loved the characters, the plot was brilliant some things I just didn't see coming!!
Quite unlike most post apocalypse books, this one reads more like what I would expect than most. The characters are more realistic, and the weapons are in line with the knowledge most people will have in the post.
I am sat here after just finishing this box set, trying to gather my thoughts and emotions together to do a review that will do this series justice. All That Remains is the first post-apocalyptic series I have ever read and so I was a little unsure of what to expect, add to that the fact this was my first read by this author too.....but my god, I was totally blown away! The story flowed beautifully, the build up of the characters and their relationship with each other at the beginning wasn't rushed and the way the author draws you in, makes you feel part of the group..........but then it picks up and that had me literally on the edge of my seat.......I could not put this book down from the turning of the first page........I was emotionally invested in the lives of Abby, Airen, Joseph and those close to them until the turn of the last page....there were times where I had to put it down and walk away for a while, at times my heart stopped in my chest.......and times that were so hot and sweet that I hugged my kindle.........and yes, even with that warning about reading on at the end......I did.....because I could.......and I cried!! Go and one pick this now! *this book, especially the ending effected me more than I thought it would.....still thinking about it the day after finishing it......putting the post-apocalyptic theme aside slightly......this story was about friendship and love in its most purest, bonds that transcend time.....
Intense, dystopian romance… As with most fiction, the dystopian genre can run the gamut from stomach-churning reality (shades of the Walking Dead or Mad Max) to comedic, ruffled normality (Idiocracy). This series seems to cover most of the gamut as it outlines the struggle to survive in a post-plague world. Somehow, Abby, Airen and Joseph find each other in the midst of this devastation and their story encompasses family, love and the harsh circumstances they must overcome and embrace… I love how the things we struggle with today in our technological world still hold true in a world where everything has been stripped down to the most elemental. Love, loss, the need to connect with others, are part and parcel of the human experience and, twitter or no twitter, communication is just as hard as ever. Abby has fought to keep her small family healthy and happy with the shreds of normalcy she can create. She is strong yet vulnerable – self-esteem is still a struggle even in this new world – as she opens her family, and heart, to first Airen and then Joseph… This story is long, encompassing three full-length books, and their journey is filled with challenge after challenge. They have to not only work through their complicated relationships but also ensure their families continue to thrive. As with any civilization, there are the good and bad elements within it. In a world with scarce resources – and no enforceable laws – one has to be vigilant and ever ready to make the tough choices. This was an intense journey with lots of twists and turns. I struggled to completely engage with the characters with the matter of fact retelling distant at times when I wanted to be closer, to feel more of the sadness, the horror, the anger they were experiencing. They said the right things, they did the right things, yet their pain and their happiness seemed just a little removed. Saying that, however, the story kept my attention, concluding with an epilogue that I knew (I just knew) I should have avoided. Ending on a bittersweet tone, I look forward to more…
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
The Last Woman A plague has wiped out pretty much all of the population. Abby and her son, Carson, have been the only people they have seen for a few months. There is no electricity, they only have what they can find in stores that hasn't gone bad (food wise), and no clean water. They come across Airen (a former model/actor) and a young girl, Jayla, he found alone while traveling. The 4 of them decide to stay together and become very close. Abby has self-esteem issues, so while she is completely attracted to Airen, she doesn't believe he would want anything to do with her. Their relationship builds very slowly and they become friends first, which is wonderful. A gentleman, Joseph, and his son, Walker, show up one day and they become friends as well. They begin to grow their own small community as they find other survivors. They become self sufficient and work really well together. There were some scary, freaky scenes in this book and there were some real bad guys in this book. It was nice to see both the humanity and lack of humanity in this type of situation (I can imagine how real it would be), and the story featured kidnapping, murder, fear, happiness, and love. In this book, Airen and Abby come together and become a family together with Carson and Jayla.
Falling Together In the last book, Abby and Airen got married. Life is going pretty well for them. Joseph is dating Troy but is in complete love with Abby and Airen. Airen goes on a trip with Eric that is only supposed to be 2 weeks, but the trip goes longer than expected...weeks longer. There is no way to communicate with each other and Joseph and Abby fear that Airen is dead. Joseph made a promise to Airen that he would take care of Abby if anything happened to him. Joseph and Abby get together in this book. Then when Airen returns, the three of them have a conversation and decide to be in a relationship together. This made the book 1000 times better. They were SO good together. It was so clear that Joseph wasn't just a third. He was a part of them and they were a part of him, both together and separate. Joseph wasn't joining Abby and Airen. He was with Abby, he was with Airen, and he was with them together. It was much stronger.
Infinite Ties Holy smokes. I absolutely LOVE Joseph, Abby, and Airen. They have had to fight for a lot and to fight for each other, but the love they have is so clear and genuine. One plot line in the middle really bothered me and set me from bumping this to a 5 star, but beyond that very annoying story, this book was brilliant. I loved seeing Abby fight for her son and fight for her guys. I loved seeing the guys stick up for Abby and show her how much she is truly worth. Nothing could come between them, even though many forces tried. The first ending (not counting the special epilogue) was fabulous. You really felt like they were able to find a true HEA despite it being like it was the end of the world. We got a great glimpse into their lives a few years later. The second "don't read if you don't like sadness" ending was absolutely beautiful. I don't tend to like sadness and tears in my books, but I have to tell you...I am so glad I read this. It proved there truly was an HEA, not just one that you could assume was there years later. Abby, Joseph, and Airen were amazing. I am so glad I went out of my comfort zone and read this series.
I would have giving this series 5 stars I loved until I didn't. There was unnecessary storyline that killed it for me. It changed they way I looked Joseph, Abby and Airen. Especially Joseph, the storyline changed his character and it wasn't necessary at all.
When I read the description of this box set I was excited to start it. I love the end of the world plot and it being a MMF made me want to read it even more. I will do shorter reviews for each book.
Book 1 was The Last Woman. I was drawn in right from the start. Yes at times it got to be a little much with everything that went in, because we get story's of 3 people in in book. I really loved Abby's story the best. She fell in love, but love isn't always the simple. Add in strangers, kids, and threats and you will never want to stop reading this book. The details were outstanding, but it wasn't overdone. This book could be read just by its self if you don't want to continue. I advise to read the rest of them tho, it's a great journey! 5Stars
Book 2 was Falling Together. While the first book has its drama, this one had more feels. Kept you in the ends of your seat. Your invested in these characters and the plot and can't help wanting to know what's going to happen. In this book we get a few new POV in this story and I loved it! It was great getting into Thur heads and seeing their feelings. I wish that Abby's self esteem would have been raised in this book, but I can really understand. This was another great story that has the feels and made me tear up. 5 star
In the third and final book we see Abby's past catch up with her and boy was it heart breaking to see. We also meet some new friends, and face a new enemy. With each book we get pulled into these characters lives and what they feel. I loved it. I love the relationship that Abby Airen and Joseph have. It's sweet yet has amazing steam to it. This would be the perfect book for someone that isn't sure weather they would enjoy M/M interaction. We learn more about the characters pasts and our heart ache. 5 stars.
Overall this is such an amazing series! It has memorable characters, outstanding secondary characters, steam, angst, humor and so much more! The plot is one of those that pulls you in and has you guessing the whole way through. I was so sad to see it end, but the ending was beautifully done!
