Pluff Mud Murders will take hold of you pulling you deep into a stiff cadence of suspense. The book winds through each chapter like driving full speed on a narrow high mountain road, each page takes you closer to the edge. Ann Carpenter's descriptive writing talent transports you to the middle of the murder investigation so well you can smell the stale cigarette smoke, musty over brewed coffee of the police station to the murmur of the city's underbelly and the scent of Charleston's Lowcountry entity -- Pluff Mud, the slippery, shiny brown-gray, sucky mud, with a distinctive smell like none other, of the tidal flats and spartina grass salt marshes.
For me, Pluff Mud Murders was a great read. Mike Carta, voice-over talent/actor, and producer.
