This was a sweet read. The writing was engaging and I liked how relatively clean this story was, but unfortunately the MCs weren't all that compelling. I enjoyed the premise of this story. I mean, who doesn't love a second chance romance? I actually enjoyed part one of this book much more than part two which is unusual for me. The MCs as teenagers were so funny and sweet. I liked them a lot. However, the MCs as adults would have benefited from a lot more development. The dialogue was a little sappy and the inner monologue was speechy at times. And honestly, too many bad things happen to the h in this story that I felt just too drama-ed out by it all. I really felt bad for the poor, poor woman.
This is something you should read after you've binged on the many NA themes that are seemingly everywhere these days. You know the kind...the rock star/actor romance, the MMA/footballer/hockey player romance, the alpha billionaire businessman romance, etc. I liked the everyday quality of this story. These are two people who met as kids, made mistakes as kids, and reconnected later as adults. They were regular people who were genuinely kind and other than the outside drama in this story, it was a very mellow read. Overall, this was a nice story.
What I liked:
1) The dual povs.
2) The message of forgiveness.
3) How sweet the MCs were to each other.
4) The epilogue.
5) How relatively clean this story was.
6) Part one. The MCs are kids were just so funny, innocent and sweet.
What I didn't like:
1) The MCs could have used more development.
2) A little too sappy and speechy at times.
