Fed up with her incompetent boss, Interpol agent Dawn Wilson accepts a job with Security Specialists International. Her first assignment forces her into close contact with the devastatingly sexy, but far too pushy CIA agent Sam Crocker.

When the SSI team, plus a forced-on-leave Sam, gathers in Aruba to take down a traitor to the United States, Sam soon discovers the beautiful, feisty Dawn’s skills are a complete match for his own.

As the fairly low-risk operation goes FUBAR, their attraction ignites and turns hot as hell.

Two characters from a previous book that left such a lasting impression on us diehard fans of the SSI series are given a novella of their own and it was sooo good. If you’re a fan of the series who could forget Interpol agent Dawn Wilson calling CIA agent Sam Crocker a crock of shit. She even comes up with some new names for him in this book.

Dawn and Sam both find themselves wanting a change in their jobs. After the last mission where they both assisted SSI they were offered jobs with them. Dawn is the first to quit hers but Sam is working with SSI on a forced vacation from the CIA to try and locate the DIA traitor who has been a thorn in their side for a while.

As with all the SSI books we get plenty of action and suspense along with hot alpha men and strong kick ass women. I’m so happy the author gave us Dawn and Sam’s story and look forward to seeing whose story is next.

4.25⭐

Hot as Hell was an extremely enjoyable SSI short story. That was full of action and suspense. And I loved the two main characters, particularly Dawn, as she was such a kick ass heroine, and Sam was definitely well suited to her. However, I kind of wish it had been a full length novel as I could of read so much more about them. But I would recommend it to others. Especially if you're a fan of the series. As the DIA traitor who has eluded SSI for so long is finally tracked down and there are a few familiar faces along for the ride too.

To be honest, I don't ever write reviews. But in this case I just had to do it. The book was a great read, but as a Dutch woman it irritated me to no end that the Dutch marines called the men "Herr" and the women "Fraulein". Those ar freaking German words! In Dutch we use "meneer" for men and "mevrouw" for women.

Fun read

This was so much fun. Dawn reminded me of Keely. Both could kick butts and take names. There was quite a bit of humor and name calling. Sam kept wanting to protect Dawn, yet her competence was what attracted him in the first place. It was a shorter book and things were accelerated but tight and well done.

Great interlude that shows two new members of SSI. This was a short book filled with action, humor and lovemaking. This is a great addition to the series.

Hot as Hell

Monette Michaels

She’s done it again! I’ve been hooked by another SSI novel without really trying!

Monette Michaels has achieved rare status in my reading world. I buy her SSI books without even looking at the titles. Why you ask? Because they are just THAT good!

We first met the petite curvy Brit, Dawn Wilson, in Belize working for Interpol while SSI agents Stuart “Tweeter” Walsh and DJ Poe were trying to infiltrate the network of one called Oraio. This account happened in “Storm Warning”. Get the book you will not be sorry!

Anyway, feisty Dawn met this cheeky, arrogant, American CIA operative named Sam Crocker. I can’t tell you it was love at first site, but remember when you were little and loved to throw mud balls at your “boyfriend” well something like that! When ”Storm Warning” finished all SSI fans cried DAWN NEEDS HER OWN BOOK! She listened to us and her muse and Voila! Here it is in all its Glory!

Dawn’s favorite name for Sam is Crock-of-shit. She’s not far wrong! He’s an egotistical, one man wrecking machine, kind of take-charge Guy! While Dawn is no Shrinking Violet, she can also kill stealthily, both have a job to do. The problem is this attraction they have for one another. Each has gotten under the other’s skin in away neither can avoid nor compartmentalize. Oh and this Oraio chap he’s one slippery and evil dude! He’s got fingers in all sorts of criminal activities and hides well in plain sight! He’s also got some really nasty friends who have their sights set on Dawn.

If you really like suspense, intrigue, beating the fates, twists, turns AND Romance, you found the right book! Monette does a good amount of background research when writing and it comes off as real and polished. Her stories are complex, her characters real and believable. They could be your next door neighbors! My only real complaint is the books are too short and she takes time writing them!

So get yourself your favorite beverage, pull up a comfy chair, open Hot as Hell………you won’t be disappointed!

Security Specialists International is a private security agency which takes on government contracts and private jobs no one else wants. The series revolves around the security agency contracts and the personnel employed. Although each book is standalone to a certain extent (as in there is a heroine, hero and a happily ever after to each one) there is an overarching plot through the series focusing on a DOD traitor who has been compromising intel and profiting off of information leaks.

That's one of the main things I really love about this series. Even though there's romance and sex and a ton of humour- there's a lot of plot and while each book can be read standalone - reading them in order lets the plot build into something special. Actually it's kind of like Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series insofar as the plot running through each book. I like the whole jigsaw puzzle being put together as each book is released.

What can I say? I love a good hero as a villain in disguise. And Croaker delivered.

The third novella in the series, Hot as Hell follows bad guy Sam Croaker and former Interpol agent and new SSI member, Dawn Wilson. Unlike the previous books, Croaker and Dawn were introduced in the last novel. I mean the romance still happens instantly but they have a least a slight build up.

Dawn was awesome. As bad ass as Keely for sure. And Croaker was a total sweetie. The chemistry between them was off the charts. It was fantastic. I loved the friendship between Dawn and Keely and the way they worked together to take down the bad guys before their men got home. The action is as intense as per usual - this novella wraps up the DOD traitor storyline which was cool. I enjoyed finally knowing the traitor gets his just desserts. I can't wait to see where this series goes next.

4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

I liked this... but the way in which the 'English' words & inflections were used was just soooo wrong. Dawn ( also an odd name for landed gentry? No. ) and Lloyd used their language with what seemed more a Thames estuary accent & dialect rather than Home Counties... And what really jarred? The use of 'math' rather than 'maths'... if you are going to make someone British and use supposedly the English language... for God's sake... get someone to Brit-pick it, please? I mean, generally, it doesn't really matter... but, if it is an intrinsic part of the character... it really really does.

I liked Crocker. Have to say, always did...

Monette Michaels never disappoints. She gave two very interesting supporting characters their own novella and as usual, it was fabulous. Sam and Dawn had an intriguing relationship in Storm Warning, and this only grew more intriguing in Hot As Hell. The chemistry between these two was very entertaining. This was a quick but highly enjoyable read. I'm eagerly awaiting the next SSI story.

Excellent read

Really enjoyed this book. I adored the character interaction and that the storyline included Ren and Keely. Nice to read about them again. Always enjoy this author's books. I guess now I am back to anxiously waiting on her next one to be published.

I’ll be honest I didn’t like Sam in the last books and I’m not too fond of him in this one, somethings are really hard to redeem a character from, but I was rooting for him all the same, and he showed the MM signature respect for his lady that is always welcome in these stories.

A nice twist and can I say Finally! they caught the guy. Dawn and Sam are pretty cool, and I did like that apart from basic war stories they were fairly normal and without baggage. It felt fresh.
