Lilli sees things no one else does. Desperate to make sense of the dreams and visions that have plagued her since childhood, Lilli confides in her closest Devin, the boy she's fallen for. Instead of questioning her sanity, Devin confesses to secrets of his own, which are far darker. His revelations about magic, witches and demons stun Lilli. But it's what he knows about Lilli's mother, long believed to be dead, that leaves her feeling betrayed. Despite her anger, Lilli will have to learn to trust Devin again, because he is the only one who can protect her from a dark danger that's coming for her from a world away. Daughter of Magic is the first book in a young adult urban fantasy series. If you like surprising plot twists, with a side of romance and the paranormal, then you'll love this first installment in Teresa Roman's page-turning series. My absolute favorite things in life are my family and books. In fact, my love of reading is what inspired me to become a writer. I love the way stories can take you to another time and place.

I currently live in beautiful Sacramento, CA with my husband, three adorable children and a doxiepoo named Parker that my son convinced me to adopt. When I'm not at my day job or running around with my kiddos, you can find me in front of the computer writing or with my head buried in another book.

Well I didn't expect that! This is the first book I've read by the author Teresa Roman, and I'm glad to say it wont be the last. This is a very well defined story, which has nearly every aspect of life, grief, betrayal alongside trust and love, amongst many, many more emotions. I found that the realism I felt from the characters is what drew me in and kept me hooked until the last page. Teresa Roman has a great ability that enables you to get lost in a great storyline. There is just enough information about the plots that you can see and feel every blade of grass from this world and the wilds. Alongside the way she can make you feel every teardrop and the last notes of laughter, this is what has inspired me to want to read more of her novels, Also I can't wait to find out what happens in book 2.. this book has so many twists and tales, that it will keep you wanting more. I don't like leaving spoilers, but I would recommend this book to any fantasy lover, young or old.

An older teen becomes orphaned upon the death of her father. At the graveside ceremony, Lilli is drawn to a weeping woman in the distance, but when she seeks the woman out, she’s not there. Her best friend, Devin, comforts her and stands by her in her grief, as does her aunt.

Lilli gradually picks up the pieces of her life, but strange things start happening, and a strange woman seeks her out. All is not as it seems, and Lilli learns about her startling heritage. Soon, she and Devin are on the run for their lives from a dangerous family foe.

This YA/NA coming of age story embraces the paranormal and revolves around first love. This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and I liked it just as much.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Another teen stalker/love story. Why does everyone have to think a boy stalking a girl is romantic? Not me. I call foul. These kind of stories give our teen girls the wrong idea of what a relationship should be like.

Grammar had some punctuation issues, poor sentence structure, and awkward sentences that are missing words.

For my clean readers:
Includes teen drinking, violence, kidnapping, marital abuse, stalking, and sexual intimacy out of wedlock(not descriptive).

Daughter of Magic is a Coming of Age - Paranormal & Urban fantasy written by Teresa Roman. I chose the book to explore more fully other authors of fantasy and Roman is not an author I've read before.

The book does contain sexual intimacy out of wedlock and teen drinking which my clean readers may find objectionable. There are also some editing issues such as missing words in sentences that are mildly annoying.

The storyline is engaging and many readers who enjoy paranormal, fantasy, and romance will want to read the next book in the series. It is a quick read about a young girl named Lilli, who loses the only father she has ever known to a heart attack. What's more tragic is that she also lost her mother when she was an infant. Faced with a normal teen's insecurity, Lilli struggles in a world in which everything she's cherished is suddenly ripped away from her.

You will enjoy Lilli's journey as she begins to uncover the untold story of her beginning in this world. The terrifying visions and dreams which have haunted her since childhood begin to make terrifying sense as she discovers the dark past her mother tried so desperately to shield her from. Lilli and her friend Devon begin an exciting, and nail-biting journey to escape the demons who intend to destroy her before their colony discovers the girl raised as a human threatens their current beliefs. Will Lilli ever master the power she needs to survive or will the demons control the future?

Decent paranormal romance but needs help

Characters were mostly believable and plot started off well. So her mother is not really dead and her bio dad is not nice. She sees strange creatures that most folks don't see and is beginning to think she's flat losing it. Enter a guy with incredible eyes and watch the plot evolve. Really enjoyed the first 60% or so and then started having trouble understanding why characters acted as they did. Scratching my head a lot as I reached the end of the book, I felt cheated. This book that started with such great potential just sort of fizzled out, leaving me unsatisfied and with a great many questions unanswered. What could have been a 5-star read with a little editing and clarification received only 3 because of a sloppy, unsatisfying second half. Will read the second in the series, hoping that these same problems will not be present.

At her father’s funeral, Lilli sees her mother, whom she thought was dead for more than 18 years. Ever since she was a child, she’s had dreams of monsters and magic. Later, she discovers that she comes from a land of witches.

Story had a rather slow start as the character goes on and on about how she misses her father and how she’s afraid of being along and losing her sanity (because of these visions.) Where does the hocus pocus finally tie in? We really don’t get any inclination until Devin (the co-worker she has a crush on) gives bits and pieces into her lineage and history, but we still don’t get the whole story.

It was just taking forever to get to the good stuff. Not quite what I expected.

When a young woman's father dies suddenly, she discovers that nothing she believed about her life nd family was true, and the truth will leave her in danger.
Well written paranormal suspense, this is the first of a two part series that spans two "worlds", the modern day west coast of America and a "the Wilds", a world of witches, shifters and magic.
Part romance, part suspense, all great reading.

Witching with a switch..

Refreshing, a love story without promiscuous graphic sex.. Teresa Roman creates wonderfully believably beautiful characters who do amazing things.. With her writing she brings a new slant to an age-old subject.. Looking forward to reading more of her books.. Great reading for young and old alike..

Wild Magic

The story is very good, it took several turns I didn’t expect. Young love, sadness, anger and hope go hand in hand. One life over another beginning. Will Lilli and Devon be able to stand together and stand strong against the forces I anticipate trying to separate them?

An entertaining fantasy as our heroine discovers the secret of her heritage while falling in love with Devin, a young man she recently met. There are some loose ends--such as the two of the disappearing and, other than phoning to quit their jobs, not telling anyone and simply abandoning Lilli's house. Teens will enjoy the romance and the fantasy world Lilli finds herself in.

Nicely done

I’m at a loss for words. When everything you think is real turns out to be a lie, it takes a special person to overcome the lies. This book has been on my to read list for so long but I’m glad I read it. Now I gotta find out what’s going to happen next.

Wasn’t sure how I would like since I haven’t read many urban fantasy but this was beyond what I thought it would be. Devin loved him. He was so much like a kid in a candy store when it came to our world. I thought I would be creeped out by him with the stalking like tendency towards Lilli but when you here why you just feel that it was sweet. I felt for him when he had to tell Lilli the truth of everything. Poor guy he got the brunt of it all and wasn’t treated nicely due to fear and anger. Lilli didn’t think Devin could like her for any other reason but who her mom was and to protect her. She thought it was only his curiosity and not true feelings that drew him to stay with her. He was away from loved ones and sacrificing alot to be with her. When this is realized the story gets more complicated, sweet and dangerous. Lilli manipulates Devin to do something against his better judgement and he does pay a price for this as does she.

The premise of the story is that Lilli has just lost her dad and never knew her mom. She is alone now and only has a few people in her life. Devin is one of them. He is one that she talks to about her life and everything and Devin takes this seriously. Suddenly he tells her everything after seeing her tell him her nightmares and what she saw at the funeral. Lilli has a hard time believing the truth. when she finally comes to terms with it and lets Devin back in her world we see a different relationship. Devin loves her and sees her as his soulmate. he doesn’t feel worthy though because of who he is and what she is. She is a powerful witch and he isn’t. she does squash this though by showing him her feelings. I didn’t like what she did after this was manipulate him to bring her to the wilds to get answers which exposes her and reveals who she is. It also gets Devin in trouble. when they get back, danger follows and Devin must protect her. This is where we learn more about demons, Devin and their feelings. I loved seeing Devin’s protective side but also how much he cared for Lilli. he showed her kindness and patience. He loved fiercely and was loyal to a tee. I hated seeing the climax because Zoran is just so evil and what he did was horrendous. the jaw dropping reveal here will have your mind reel and wonder about Lilli some more. She is powerful and needs to learn to control it more but I also think in more danger from demons and Zoran although not sure how Zoran is going to use her now. Lilli’s cousin Rayden was so sweet as well. Him and Devin were my favorite characters. They were kind and sweet but also loyal and loving.

the story is action packed and alluring. We see some jaw dropping moments and some dangerous moment but we see a change and growth in our characters as well. Lilli learns to trust and love and let Devin in. She finds out who she is and realizes that love is what matters and not who is your parents. Devin learns to support Lilli more and love. He learns love brings guidance and patience. He also learns that he can’t always protect but sometimes must just support. We see a growth of friendship to love and we see trust grow as well as the connection grows deeper and they learn more about one another. We see danger and the author does a great job of writing in a show don’t tell way. Her characters draw you in with their personality and the story keeps you glued to the book as you learn about witches, demons, the danger Lilli is in and see love blossom.

A Whole World With Witches And More. . .

I was surprised by this novel, unsure if the romance or plot line at times would be to cliche, the author would throw a curve ball changing my mind. Dealing with the supernatural most book have a been there done that feel, but this novel felt new, just needs a bit more depth and expanding at points. The heroine was not a damsel in distress and even with an overprotective boyfriend, readers are in for an adventure.

The death of her father makes eighteen year old Lilli realize she really is alone. Her mother had vanished when she was a baby and now her father suddenly died, leaving her with no one but an aunt who lives out of town. But when Lilli thinks she sees the ghost of her mother at her dads wake, it later opens up more emotions and dreams that she has tried to forget. Lilli has nightmares and sees creatures occasional that no one else seems to, but when she opens up to her friend Devin about them he doesn't call her crazy. Devin has been trying to find a way to tell Lilli that there is a whole other world, that holds such creatures that she sees in her dreams, and they are in fact Witches and Demons. Lilli of course questions Devin's sanity, and her own, for wanting to believe his stories of Magic, but when other occurrences begin to happen and her life is possibly threaten, Lilli will need to decide on the next step before its too late.

Overall, good read just wish the world of Magic and few other plot points were expanded on. I truly wanted to cry for how lost Lilli was in the beginning with losing her father, because if you've ever lost a loved one trying to adjust to life without them is beyond difficult. But I loved how Devin was a nice anchor for Lilli to pull her back in to living. The Lilli and Devin relationship was cute and though Devin earned creepy points for being super stuck on her, you'll see its apparently in his genes to be a loyal stalker. Now I had hoped with Lilli discovering her powers there would have been a moment were she actually chose to wield her great power as opposed to the scene where it was just accidentally set off. Oh and I hope there is a sequel because the ending of Zoran (Mr. Villain) was okay, not completely resolved because of the whole family complication, but I am happy Lilli and her mom get a girls moment to reconnect. Okay now one big thing I really loved about this novel was a theme of those parents who may not be their kids biological parents but still love them as their own; That kind of love is something so selfless and pure its very special, love seeing it written about. So if you are looking for a new story about a girl discovering there is a place outside of our world called Magic, where witches and other creatures hide away from humans, then you may want to check this book out.

I enjoyed the parts of this book that took part in the magical world. The imagery of the world was beautiful, the magic was enthralling, and the action was exciting. I just wish there was more of the book that took part in the magical world.

The main character Lilli has suffered a lot and I found myself sympathizing with her. I liked Devin, the love interest in this book. However, he was a bit too mysterious to me and there were a few times where he was just a little over the top with his protectiveness.

I loved the scene where Lilli finally experiences her magical abilities. I always like it when characters are all of a sudden able to do something. I love it when stronger bad characters try to do harm to or take advantage of the newbies and then get what’s coming to them.

I think future books could be exciting. While I wished for more time in the magical world, it isn’t to say that the time outside of that world was bad or boring. It just wasn’t as exciting. The book just became more riveting once the characters were in the magical world. I look forward to book 2 and learning what all Lilli is capable of doing.

Please note that I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my review.

this is such a terrific book and I think anyone who likes a proper mix of reality and fantasy will love it. It starts in the world of reality, with Lilli losing her father and dealing with that loss, and there is an edge of fantasy as we learn that she is "haunted" by her long-lost mother. Pretty soon it becomes clear that there's something special about Lilli that she doesn't know, and her swoon-worthy friend Devin is the one to tell her the truth about her past. Devin is everything you'd want in a male lead—he's sexy for sure but also devoted. He's strong but clearly has it bad for Lilli, even if she doesn't want to believe it at first. It's such a relief when they finally confess their feelings for each other. Well, that relief is a bit short-lived because then Lilli's life gets caught up in the web of deceit woven when she was a baby. It's a page-turner, going from a sensitive beginning to a suspenseful middle and end. Read this book!

This is an intriguing, multi-layered story. Written in a slightly naive voice, this is, superficially at least, a story of magic and other worlds. On a deeper level, this seemed to me at least, to be a story of teenage discovery and growth - uncovering truths about love, self and her place in the world.

The tentative relationship development is explored in a careful and frustrating manner, and is, on the whole, engaging.

It's true that for some of the threads dealt with in this book, as a reader I just had to let go of any pre-conceived notions of magic and magic users, go with it, and accept the world building from this author.

I confess, I am curious to see what is next in this saga.

I did not know at the beginning that this is first in a series but I had my suspicions, it just had that feel. The world building was slow at first but then done well enough. I am sure it will be expanded upon in future books. The characters are not multilayered or deep but you get their essence adequately. There were a few moments when Deven had my creepy stalker radar working.

This is fantasy coming of age with some added twists suitable for NA teen and above readers.
It would make a good book club read for NA or YA readers. some violence and only traces of sexual content.

A magical story that deftly weaves suspense throughout. Teresa did a fantastic job building the characters (especially 18 year old Lilli, the heroine, told in first-person perspective) and the setting (small town in Northern California). The only downside is...when will we find out what happens next?

An exciting adventure. I really enjoyed reading this tale that takes part in two worlds. Lilli is very much a modern teen, but she’s more and, as she discovers, the guy she’s fallen for already knows that. Lilli’s quest for the truth about her mother leads her into another realm full of dangers she must learn to overcome.

Notes:
*You would take advantage of what he feels for you so you could get what you want?
*Somehow, the idea of a man trying to kill a girl because she was borne of your wife with a man other than you is quite... smh
