Watson’s second novel in the Forgotten Forbidden America series, Patriots Reborn, the non-stop action returns. It is as well written as the first book and really moves the story along. All of the major characters and the supporting personalities are back.
I did not like this book as well as the first for a couple of reasons. Mostly, it made me hate Nelson. He is a total jerk in this book. I despise him so much I’d be happy if he gets killed off in the next book. He was mean to everyone and constantly in a bad mood. I do not understand the point of ruining the main character unless you plan to kill him off. And, it had some very long drawn out descriptions that were just plain boring. If I ever want to build a power plant on a creek for my house, I know what book to read.
Please make the next book in the series better.
3 out of 5 stars.
I received this book for free from the author for review consideration. This in no way affected my opinion of the book, or the content of my review.
I enjoyed the first Forgotten Forbidden America, however I was disappointed in the second book. The main character, Nelson was great in the first book, in the second he turned into a bullying thug. He violated the rules the group had agreed to. He expected everyone to abide by rules except himself. He was always right and threatened all who opposed him, even assaulting his family's best friend. He cursed at everyone however threatened violence or worse against all who talked against him. His way was the only way, all other group members were f...ing fool's and idiots. In reality he would not last very long in a group of experienced military and police survivors. The whole thing lacked believability.
It lost me at the slapstick torture chapter and went downhill from there.
What a disappointment.
Not to get too church lady but the language was over the top for me. Authors prerogative. I can deal with the occasionally well placed colorful phrase bug when it's non stop it gets to be a bit middle school.
Mr. Watson proves again that he is a master of the written word. Picking up right where the first left off, Patriots Reborn throws you directly into the fight for your freedom, and coincides with the very real political fears of today. The only thing that Mr. Watson could do better with this series is time the next release with the U.S. presidential election. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!
The scariest thing about this book is how close we are to something like this happening. The second is how far the family will go to protect themselves. Utterly fascinating look at a country at war with its own citizens, graphic torture that had my jaw hitting the floor! Violence, though not just for the sake of it, and love for family and freedom an overriding theme. Well written, with a steady pace, I was riveted!
Good story line, but should be R maybe even -X rated
The storyline is good and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You have to skip the boreing playing with bubbles" in a hot tub part. The language is terrible it is filthy cursing. After reading two chapters I felt that I should wash my own mouth out with soap it was that bad. I have used the "f" but holy molely this was way out of bounds. Read if you want, but "reader be warned........
The Federal and foreign forces continue to strangle the population into submission, but cracks start to appear in the monolithic oppressors. I love that this story is more about family than gunfights. The male rivalry reminds me of the bond between brothers is strong...even if they fight sometimes.
Get tired of this same old idea that every government affiliated member I is a greedy sexual pervert and a danger to society. Not to mention this group has millions of dollars invested in their prep. Not terribly realistic or reasonable. Just my input but it does read well and am keen on seeing how the rest of the story goes......
The story was great. To fight keep your freedom. Just like in the past. Just think that can happen this day .I just hope we have Patriots like our Forefathers
A story that makes you step back and really take a look around! This story continues with a few families and friends trying to survive in a world gone wrong. The more I read about them, the more I realize I am connecting with many of the characters at different levels. An addicting read to be honest. If you haven't read the first book........you need to grab a copy and read it before this one or you may find yourself filled with unanswered questions. The author, Thomas A Watson, has done an amazing job with creating this story. His characters are well defined and he is so detail oriented without going overboard. Just the right amount. Amazing story! Thank you, Thomas A Watson, for such a journey filled with the unknown and the uncertain. One thing is for certain, however, I will definitely be reading more of your work as well as recommending your works to everyone I know that is interested in your genre! Amazing job!
Highly recommend the series. Each book gets better and builds on the last. Characters, relationships and plot are richly woven. I did find what turned out to be a glaring continuity hiccup when I started rereading the series after book five's release. It's hard to describe without spoilers. I'll try. Nancy's communication with Texas Governor and Free State President Fern makes the intel briefs given to the Federal President by his cabinet impossible, regarding being unable to find the source of certain hacks. In order for the information in book 5 to work, Nancy's communication MUST remain anonymous. Hopefully, Thomas Watson goes back and fixes that chapter in this book. Even if he doesn't, it isn't THAT big a deal and I would've never caught it if I hadn't decided to go back and reread the whole series. The whole series still gets a 5 and a recommended rating.
So...this series is like a book on anti-gravity....I just cant put it down. I sped read this, even with my busy work schedule, I stayed up late because I was so curious on what was going to happen. I will not give anything away, at all. The character development is on point, the story is awesome, makes you proud to be an American and you can feel that patriotic spark deep down in us all, well...most of us lol. Book 3 should be here tomorrow and im already ordering book 4 lol. Love this series! Well down Thomas Watson!
I enjoy the premise of this book series, and am intrigued by the events surrounding the collapse, however, I don't need to know every word, of every conversation between the characters. I literally skipped over at least five pages of a baby playing with bubbles in a hot tub. There is just way too much to comprehend, and not enough action. These people are not typical or realistic when it comes to prepping.
I enjoy a good action book that is full of excitement this book has it but I could barely get through it because of the terrible language. It says Christian but it is not! Christians are Christ like and besides them saying a blessing before meals, nothing about this group is Christ like. I think this book gets sad towards the end and that puts Nelson on a path. I don't know I think I’ve read 5 books out of the 7 and I will not, most likely get the other books in the series
I love Dark Titan by Thomas Watson. You can bond with many of the characters and the lead is awesome as well as flawed, aka: human.
The lead in this series is too fake. As a retired SF Colonel I can tell you for a fact no one is that good at that many things. I know of no MP in the history of the world who had any of this guys skill sets. He is so hard to believe I am stopping reading at the 2nd book and searching for another series.
The saga continues and as I read I grow more in love with the characters. I find myself deeply involved with the outcome and am buying next book immediately.
A very fast moving cannot put it down continuation of book 1. Reality at it’s most ‘could really happen’ given the crazy world we live in today. If you are not a preppier to some degree then this series will make you reevaluate your perspective.
I loved this book, the plot twists were shocking and the characters memorable, I sat through this in one go and was disapointed to finish, I can't wait to start the next book, The narration was great, very expressive and compliments the book beautifully This was my first audio book can't wait to here the complete series!
As much of a page turner as the first in the series
The second installment of the series was as hard to put down as the first. The author puts you into the action with graphic detail so that you're itching for more. Looking forward to #3
Part s bordered on war crimes but understandable some sequences were loosely associated but followed overall an entertaining read the theme borders on R rating.
This writer creates a story that seems so real that it could take place here in the U.S. Great writing and you can actually feel the characters emotions. I highly recommend this series. I will be purchasing the next book!
An excellent sequel to the first book in this 'Forgotten Forbidden America' series. Mr. Watson continues to impress!
As Nelson and his family/clan persevere to survive the unraveling of their beloved country, new threats appear to be closing in around them. Through teamwork, dedication, and pure stubbornness, they must address these dangers before the children on their farm are in the crosshairs.
An action-packed, yet humorous story that perfectly states the lengths that true patriots (and parents) will go to protect the future generation. When the lines are drawn, there is no choice but to fight. To bow down to a corrupt government will NEVER be an option. A very entertaining tale. Very well done!
Martial Law is declared, all private companies are under federal control, all private property is seized, and all citizens are to report to the nearest FEMA camp. (illegal) Executive orders run amuck! Our prepper gang has arrived at the farm, unloaded all the vehicles, and immediately began to organize and fortify the compound. Nancy is the ex-NSA computer wiz setting up communications and a poor man’s radar; pretty cool stuff. As a result of their scavenging missions they picked up more arms and supplies and also acquired a couple military vehicles with very nice mounted weapons. The other farms in the area were checked out to see if anything of value was left behind. Suffice to say our gang should be able to equip a small army. The first real guerrilla tactics mission is put in play against a Federal outpost with surprising results. The other Free States which rebelled against the Federal aggression are also making moves and expanding the Free States territory. Such a good story, I hate to see this book come to an end. Where is the next book?
I liked the story. BUT I listened to it via audible and I hope that they choose a different narrator. He made it difficult to keep up with the story line. (-1 star) One criticism I have would be to transition from the over abundance of small talk between the characters and more actual story. (Example: the book could be called Bubble warrior). This book seemed to have the bulk of the action at the end of the book. Which should have been the main focus of the book. (-1star) that being said, I will continue to read this series of books but not on audible unless there is a different narrator.
This series is really good. Love the Characters. I have never read such perfect prepper scenario as this. The Lead guy manages a big chain hunting store. Owns a completely stocked cabin on a farm with other ex-military people. Has better equipment than the military and the perfect wife and family. If you don't pick up some good tips along the way, your not paying attention. Highly recommend this book and author.
I really enjoy these kind of stories. It's making me think if I should start prepping. I never thought that word would ever come to my mind. Just wondering if there will be a third book coming to complete the series. I just think there's more to say. I wish I could write it but I'm not that talented with my writing. I have ideas but just can't seem e get them written well on paper.
This is the second chapter in a great series. I must caution you, if you question out government at all (and you should). This book just like the first one will give you the fears just like any great horror story. But the courage and faith of the characters will lift you back up, and make you want to be a little more like them.
