Whomever said that becoming a pastor would be easy couldn't have known Gavon "Gee" Cunningham. It seemed like the moment he became a pastor after the death of his beloved grandmother Mama Jean all hell broke loose in his life.
His father wanted to move on with a new woman when Gavon felt like his mother hadn't been in the ground long enough for him to do so. Sure she had been dead almost thirty years but Gavon wasn't counting. He knew she would be turning over in her grave if she knew what Alvin was up to. If his mother Danielle couldn't get loyalty from her husband then she would continue to get it from her son.
Chasiti had come into his life at the right time. She loved him unconditionally and was even the reason he wasn't following in Alvin's footsteps by ending up in jail. Had it not been for her his ex Chardonnay would be history. But just like a demon coming back to see if a person's house had been swept clean, she had reared her conniving head once again.
Chasiti and Gavon should have been enjoying their daughter and getting ready to meet their son without any issues but old feelings come in to play and now he's not too sure if his marriage is strong enough to survive. Gavon will need to figure out if the secret he is hiding will cost him everything.
Chardonnay is at it again. Most would think that after her near death experience and finally getting happiness, she would have completely changed. For a while she had but once her husband Kendrick begins to show signs of infidelity once again she turns back to the only person who she knows will be her ram in the bush. And as expected he becomes that and so much more.
Insecurities, deception, and heartache are all of the ingredients needed for homes to be divided and the enemy to rein supreme. Is their faith in God and one another solid enough to withstand the trials or will they cause Gavon to once again return to his thuggish ways?
I am so emotional right now while I attempt to write this review and it can only be attributed to 2 things. One I felt the spiritual pull and anointing that these ladies were able to convey through their words and two these young women are some writers that are clearly ahead of their time in a genre that many choose to skate by in this day and age. Let me begin with my boy Gavin. When I first begin reading part 2 I was sitting here biting my nails and screaming in my head that old boy 'BET NOT' (for all of you non-southerners 'bet' not' means better not LOL) be messing around with Chardonnay's trifling behind. I wanted to have negative feelings in my heart and mind for Chardonnay but I just couldn't. Were her ways scandalous at times, UNEQUIVOCALLY YES!!! But after showing us the things that she endured as a child it gave us a better understanding of why she did the things that she did. It didn't give her a pass but it sure gave us a clearer view of why she was the way that she was. Kendall was good for her and while he had a multitude of faults (and who doesn't), he was made perfect for Chardonnay. They were able to give each other the love and understanding that they both needed and craved. The way that Ms. Johnson and Ms. Jefferson-Boone were able to take a character who was seemingly UNREDEEMABLE (quite frankly even if you are professing salvation you wanted Chastiti to beat the brakes off of Chardonnay; forgive us Lord LOL), and show us that while we are imperfect that God keeps us completely and perfectly covered was nothing short of genius. Shenita, Shenita, Shenita I love her dearly. I could just imagine her melodious voice ringing out with that N'awlins twang( New Orleans for all you proper folks). I am a sucker for the accent of a person from one of the most beloved places in the world. Her slang, down-home ways, and the love that she had for her family had me experiencing pangs for another experience in the Big Easy. Chastiti was and still is my FAVORITE character of this series. She clearly allowed us to see that while she carried the title of First Lady, first and foremost she was a wife and mother and prone to irrational emotions like every other woman when riled up about their man, kids, and money. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, that this is depicted in this book. Being a former PK kid I can't begin to tell you the number of people(myself included) who at one time or another were more worried about title and position vs. the actual relationship with God. The fact that these ladies are able to write a story that gives us life lessons without coming across as too preachy or holier than thou is yet another testament to their prowess as writers. Jenica Johnson and Denora Jefferson Boone I must say that you ladies wear the crown for Christian Fiction. I laughed, I cried, I was angry, I was frustrated, and by the end, I was ready to get down on my knees and repent for the mistakes and sins that I DEFINITELY committed today LOL. If that was your purpose and goal well ladies you far exceeded it in my opinion. I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT'S NEXT!!! WONDERFUL JOB!!! For those of you looking for a book that isn't littered with sexual connotations, profanity, drug dealers and the like( and I'm not throwing shade on anyone who writes these books because I read those too LOL), but still possesses the real and gives you a life lesson to boot, let Denora Jefferson Boone & Jenica Johnson take you on their spiritual evolutionary literary ride. You will not leave the Anointed Express without wanting to return for more over and over again!!!!
All books are so real and relatable. I feel like, I'm saved with a lil hood in me and God can still use me as a bkessi bf and my life as a testimony. I am grateful for stumbling but not staying down. We serve a Great God!
This book was awesome as well, and spiritual. It kept me on the edge of my seat as well. I'm glad I read it. I thought about not reading it a couple of times. But I'm so glad I did because it was awesome too. Lata
This was a very good read and attention seeker! There was not a dull moment in this book. Just when you thought nothing else could happen, all hell broke loose again!
I just loved this 2 part series! It moved me. I love Gavon & I'm glad he got it together. Chasiti was God sent. Her and Gee are definitely the epitome of marriage. I'm glad Alvin found love again. Reno demons finally laid at peace as he lifted those burdens. Too bad about Dan though. Ken and Char battled those demons and made an amends. I'm happy about that. But, my girl Nita was the truth. I'm glad Kareem found the good in her and made her a honest women.
Amazing follow-up! Storyline flowed well. Though Mama Jean was dearly missed, she was present in spirit. Characters old & new, continued with their drama. Chardonnay was not one to easily give up her vindictive ways until it was almost too late. Chasiti remained strong throughout, remaining one of my favorite characters. I was glad Gee had positive male influences in his life for they were needed. Enjoyable read as this is a series I highly recommend!
I was mad for a minute cause I thought gavon had lost his mind, then it all came to the light. My favorite person is Shenita lol she didn't play. I love how they all came together at the end though. Very good read, I don't wanna give anything away just know you won't be disappoint.
I wasp angry with Gavon that I almost put the book down. I could not believe that he would do that to Chas after the love he professed in the previous book. It turned around though. This book wa EXCELLENT! The way it turned out was definitely not what I thought. Just read the book everybody!
The drama continues and Chardonnay still had her name on it!! I love the Christian aspect if the book the thuggish ways that showed up throughout the story. Forgiving is one of the hardest things to do all while being a necessary task...
I enjoyed both books in this series. I've seen this situation with family curses riding them. This book let's those who need it, know it's never to late to get right with God!
Although I didn't read Part 1, I still enjoyed reading this book. It showed just how good God is-His grace and His mercy abound.....a Wonderful testimony & more than just "a book"! Definitely 5***** (Stars)
