"Killing Vampires Since 1888."

I was born in Bucharest in 1880 in the heart of the vampire population. At eight years old, I was considered a freak of nature since I was already the size of an adult male. Other children my age, and some of my teachers, shunned me. Being rejected by one’s peers cuts deeply. Then I met my first werewolf and discovered a master vampire was plotting to kill me because of what I am. From that moment, my destiny stole my future aspirations all men grow up wanting. This is how my destiny begins.

My Thoughts

This straightforward journey of discovery and fulfillment of his destiny, starting when Forrest is only 8-years-old, encompasses a short period of time but a vast amount of learning for he and his companions as well.

We meet Forrest at his humble family home on the day when his father returns in a state that can only be described as critical.

Upon this same day events are set into motion that reveal to Forrest his calling as a natural born hunter of the creatures known as Vampires.

Shortly thereafter he and his Father endure a heartbreaking loss that further clarifies for Forrest the future he can expect rather than the one he would have normally strived for.

Without the proper training Forrest still manages a few surprising moments where he
overcomes his enemies, surviving multiple attacks and learning more from each one.

As someone whose nephew grew into the stature of a man early it was no stretch to believe that at the tender age of 8 Forrest actually could pass for a fully grown adult at first appearance. His mind is still that of a child when the story starts, that changes as does his demeanor when he finally has to start defending himself by killing the Vampires whom he encounters that are intent on killing he and his companions.

Several brutal, bloody battles take place and Forrest gains more skill with each one but he also loses a bit more of himself as well.

Quite simply, I have read and continue reading any and all renditions of the vampire genre so am very glad to say this one flowed easily from start to finish, it was very easy to find empathy and sympathy for Forrest as he quickly emerged from childhood into manhood at such an early age.

I found myself engrossed in the narrative from Forrest, am now invested in the characters that were introduced to us and hope to get to revisit Forrest Wollinsky in future installments to see how he turns out as he grows older.

I thank Mr. Hilley for the opportunities to read and share my enjoyment of his work, each new book takes me on a fantastic journey that would be sad to miss out on otherwise.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Forrest Wollinsky: Vampire Hunter [Vol. 2] Blood Mists of London

Whitechapel, London: 1888

A ravenous madman stalks the foggy streets of Whitechapel, savagely butchering women during the dead of night and mysteriously disappearing without a trace or even an eyewitness, which leaves detectives at wit’s end to find the murderer. The newspapers named the serial killer Jack the Ripper, but Forrest Wollinsky believes this sinister phantom is actually a master vampire who has ventured far from his homeland for one reason: unrelenting vengeance.

However, stopping this vampire won’t be easy. He’s the most powerful vampire Forrest has encountered to date. Slaying this vampire requires Forrest to align himself with unusual creatures he never knew existed, but even then they have no guarantee of success.

My Thoughts

1888 still finds the Vampire Hunter an 8-year-old child, a child whose body and demeanor bely his age as does his continuing prowess in dispatching his undead prey.

Still traveling with his cousin Jacques and his own Father Forrest has left Romania for London, where he soon finds himself battling the most powerful Vampire he has encountered in his short career.

In searching for the Vampires daytime resting place Forrest finds strange creatures in the tunnels under the London streets, creatures who ally themselves with he and his companions giving some much appreciated knowledge and help when it is needed.

London, Whitechapel, Jack The Ripper murders and a few more twists and turns that keep the reader engaged and Forrest doing his best to stay alive.

Once more the tale is easy to follow and the violence that occurs here and there horrifying but necessary to the story. Not suffering at all from second book syndrome but rather tidily building on book one and also setting up book three.

From time to time there comes along a new version of Jack The Ripper and the London based Whitechapel murders, no matter how many times this story is retold however it still creeps me out while also appealing to the murder mystery suspense lover in me.

Forrest Wollinsky: Vampire Hunter is about the beginnings of Forrest and how he found out he was destined to be a vampire hunter. The book starts out in Bucharest, Romania in 1888 when Forrest was eight years old. Forrest and his mother have been waiting several days for his father to come home from hunting, which was not unusual. It is storming outside and the snow is turning into a blizzard, but during a lull they hear a very faint knocking on the door. They go to check it out and find Forrest’s father, John who has somehow managed to crawl home when he should be dead from his injuries. Forrest’s mother quickly realizes that her husband’s injuries are even more serious, as he has also been bitten and if he dies will turn into a vampire and attack the two of them. Forrest gets his dad’s hunter’s box and in it is holy water which his mother uses to wash out the bite marks. She also washed out her husband’s mouth of the blood from the vampire that had been put there to try to make him drink it. John’s legs had been both shattered, and he was bleeding from many places. Forrest did not see how his father could possibly make it. After dealing with the bite, Forrest goes out to try to find some wood to use as braces for his father’s legs. He immediately notices something strange, going on outside, with bats in a huge flock, only as they dive at him trying to scare him, Forrest does not even flinch at all. After they tried to scare Forrest and could not the bats came together, assembling themselves into a form on the ground. It was none other than, Baron Randolph, who it seems is a master vampire. He wanted to go in and finish off Forrest’s father, but Forrest stood firm in his path not realizing how dangerous this man was. But with the comfort from the dagger his father gave him, he stands firm and the Baron leaves without doing any further harm. To find out what happens next you will have to read yourself.

This book is great. I was immediately drawn into the story. I really liked the way the characters were developed and unfolded. I believe anyone who likes vampire stories would really enjoy this book. I think this would be a book for anyone who enjoys paranormal stories and I hope there more books to follow soon.

I’m giving this book 5 hearts

I love the character!

I had the pleasure of beta reading this story.

This is the journey of a child becoming a man, while other children are still playing, when his destiny comes calling. I love the character, Forrest. He is a wonderful mix of the innocent child he is with the adult destiny he was born with. The author, Leonard, has done a fantastic job of writing the scenario in such a way that I believed it. After all, that is the job of the author... write something that disbelief can not enter the reader's mind while immersing them into that fictional world.

For me, this is another awesome addition to my collection of other works by Leonard D. Hilley II. I eagerly await his next, regardless of what series or setting he writes.

I had the pleasure of beta reading this story and did so in one sitting.

This is book 2 to Forrest Wollinsky: Vampire Hunter, which was an awesome read. This one is no exception. I will not add any spoilers of any kind but I love the characters and the author's writing style. Leonard has a way of writing that makes Forrest's situation seem believable. His books will always be added to my shelves; virtual and real.
