Assassins in Love #2

Assassins Love People Too

Rate this book
Dillon Carter's boyfriend, Marc Francis, is a paid assassin. That little fact makes having a normal relationship very complicated. Especially when there are people out there in the big bad spy world who hate Marc so much the last thing they want is him to end up happy.

Obsessive enemies, ex-lovers and poisoned espresso do nothing to make Marc and Dillon's trip to Italy relaxing. In fact, they'll be lucky if they survive at all.

‘Assassins Love People Too’ is the sequel to ‘Assassins Are People Too’, and you really should read that book first. It will not only give you the details and character history you need to understand what is going on in this book, but it is also hilariously funny and very suspenseful. In fact I thought it was a hard act to follow, but am happy to report that I think the sequel is even better. There is a little less humor and more suspense as Dillon and Marc’s lives come under threat, but there is also a deeper look at their developing relationship. Dillon is still pretty naïve, and that gets him into trouble more than once, and Marc is beginning to admit that he has feelings. After the heart-stopping cliff-hanger of the previous book, events take off at a run in this sequel before they accelerate. Hold on to your hats for this one!

This book starts right where the first left off. The danger is real, and Dillon has to rely on himself to get to Marc and safety. I liked how they evaded their enemies while each struggling with feeling insecure and inadequate. Who knew assassins could be shy? Marc at times was sweet and a bit thick where feelings were concerned. Dillon was a bit better at it considering how patient he had to be with Marc. Oh, ex-lover and jealousy! That was highly amusing. But it was hard to be mad when Marc was clueless himself about the aforementioned lover!

The book was fast-paced, slightly suspenseful and hilarious in a sense that assassins here talked so much, it was a wonder they got anything done! But this was an entertaining read nonetheless. The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger, but it made me even more curious about what is going to happen next.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Mark and Dillon are on the move, trying to avoid Mark's enemies and stay alive. This leads them to staying with Ronin, a colleague Mark's as well as his former lover. Mark and Ronin decide to take the fight to the bad guys.

For a short story this had a good helping of angst. Mark's inability to share his feelings allows Dillon's insecurities to fester and the addition of Ronin into the mix doesn't help. This story also has some good action and moves at a fast pace. I really enjoyed Assassins Love People Too and epilogue left me eager for more.

** I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK, BY THE AUTHOR, IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST REVIEW **
Reviewed for Divine Magazine

For me, this one suffered the curse of Book 2. It happens every time with me. Book 1 is so incredible that I'm giddy and barely able to vocalise what I loved about the story. Then Book 2 comes along and something is lost in translation. Thankfully, this one wasn't TOO lost. It was a minor issue that I can easily overlook, to come back and happily delve into the next book in the series and, hopefully, the next one after that.

The characters were just as great. They keep their old personalities and quirks, while having time to explore more of their new ones. The story and plot line was well developed and paced, too, which was great. I never felt rushed or that the story stagnated anywhere. Both books in this series are the perfect length required to tell the story properly. All too often, with action/adventure stories, book 2's plots try too hard to out do the last book. Wynne did a brilliant job of making sure that didn't happen. It wasn't necessary. These characters and their stories are strong enough to stand on their own two feet, without exaggerating the plot or making it ridiculous, with too much action or not enough.

As for editing, there were less issues than book 1, which was great. One or two missing quotation marks and nothing else, as far as I noticed.

What made the book lacking, for me, was the constant bickering between Marc and Dillon. It was all repeating the same conversations over and over again. Though their fears made sense, it got a little repetitive to keep reading the same arguments in new words, in new places. That's when I lost interest and it took me a few pages to really pick back up again. So, due to how often that happened, I was being nudged out of the story by the argument, then had to ease my way back in again about a dozen times.

I get that Marc is an assassin and he doesn't open up, but it irritates me the way he uses that as an excuse to not be completely honest. Dillon has placed his whole trust in him and Marc can't do the same. He hasn't even revealed his real name to him, which I'm not happy about. At the same time, they haven't known each other long, so it makes a little bit of sense to be hesitant. But the repetition of that got in the way of what else was going on between them. There were some really amazing “moments” where Dillon gave up the fight and placed his heart, soul and trust into Marc, with no reason to except that he loved the man. It made me sad that Marc couldn't return even a sliver of that trust.

For that reason (the repetition) I removed one star. It was the disconnects that made reading this one, at only 105 pages, take longer than book 1, which had about 10 pages more. Without that, I would probably be as speechless as with book 1, because I really do love these characters and their quirks.

I loved the new additions, Leo, Gianni and Ronan. They were all great in their own way. I even liked meeting crazy Julio.

There were still funny, hot, intense moments. I even liked when Dillon got drunk and said all the wrong things at the wrong time, because he was sticking up for himself with the same spunk and fire that I'd loved in him in book 1.

Overall, I can't wait for the next book. It will be nice to see Ronan and Gianni again, but I really hope all the focus is still on Marc and Dillon. Those two guys have some serious issues to work on.

All the happiness! I love the suspense these books give me. Dillon and Marc are so entertaining together. Marc with his inept social graces and relationship experience and Dillion with his insecurities and inability to read Marc all that well. These two LITERALLY need to communicate to get what the other one is trying to convey.
In the first book it ended on a cliffhanger and we all wanted to throw our Kindles, and cry! Well, there’s a bit of a cliffhanger on this one as well… butttttttttt it’s not who you think… who? Yeah I said who! And I’m thrilled about what book 3 will bring.
SC Wynne made this book even better than book 1 and it’s reading like a suspenseful TV show! Her ability to introduce new characters, make us question each one and if they are trustworthy is great. I love how I found myself saying, “Oh I want to like this person. Please don’t make them a malicious assassin who wants to kill Marc and Dillion’s happiness.” LOL
I really really loved this book and am eager for more!!!!

So this book picks up with Dillon living in France with his assassin lover who hasn't quite quit his job yet. He gets an urgent call to get to Paris by train and trust no one. Of course innocent Dillon chats with the old lady next to him, not good. After she tries to kill them, they head to Italy to Marc's ex's house. This leads to some tension needless to say, but the two assassins decide to head off and put an end to the criminal wanting to kill Marc and leave Dillon to hang out with an old trusted friend of the two and he befriends a young waiter at the local cafe.

Things come to a head in the cafe with lots of drama and murder and mayhem, leaving Dillon and Marc free and maybe the ex and the cafe boy looking at something more.

This was okay, but it obviously didn't leave an impression because I had to go back and refresh myself as to the plot. I liked the characters well enough and yes, I would read a story about the ex and the barista. So just depends what you are in he mood for.

When is the third book coming out?! Argh, that ending! I loved reading about the continued story for Marc and Dillon, lots of action and fast-paced plot in this one. I really liked them struggling to define their relationship and find balance with each other.

I'll definitely be on the lookout for the next book!

. I loved the first book so much and was hoping that the second could live up to the incredible action and developing love story introduced in the first book and I must say this one did not disappoint. We follow Marc and Dillon, now in Europe, some six weeks into their dash and hide existence trying to escape the deadly interest of Julio, a very bad man who Marc seems to take delight in thwarting. While Julio pulls out one henchman after another trying to kill both Dillon and Marc, the two of them find themselves in pretty rocky waters trying to not only evade killers but negotiate the twisting path of a new relationship as well. At least Dillon hopes that is what is forming, for Marc is not an easy man to read and Dillon is worried that Marc has brought him along just to keep him from harm and for easy sex. While Dillon’s heart is rapidly being lost to his assassin boyfriend, Marc is focused on one thing only—keeping the two of them alive.

Though short on page time, Assassins Love People Too is long in suspense and danger. Introducing a former lover of Marc’s and a fellow assassin, the author expands both her plot and her burgeoning love story. Now with such uncertainty and jealousy mixed in to play, Dillon becomes more and more uneasy that Marc might never find it in himself to fall in love. Unfortunately Dillon has no such difficulty and has fallen for the reticent Marc despite his own doubt as to whether Marc can love him in return. Each chapter trades off in narration so that we get continual updates as to how both Marc and Dillon are dealing with their current run for survival. I loved how with each subsequent section we were privy to the inner dialogue of each character—allowing us to understand how both Marc and Dillon felt for each other even while they seemed to have great difficulty communicating those same feelings to each other.

In particular, I really felt the author exposed much more about Marc and his fears and doubts. This installment in the series gave added depth to both main characters and pulled us further into their story. You could not help but root for these guys and hope that they both would find the courage to confess their reel feelings for each other before the danger facing them destroyed them both.

Assassins Love People Too is the second book in the Assassins in Love Series by S.C. Wynne. The adventures in dating an assassin continues for Dillon as he flees with Marc to attempt to hide from the enemies. Between being tracked by other assassins, insecurities about each other's feelings, jealousy over old bedtime buddies and other dangers and drama, Dillon and Marc are taking us on a real exciting journey.

I really like these characters. Marc is used to being cold, everyone thinks of him as cold... but Dillon has brought out his emotions, to an extent. Hes still working on making sure Dillon understands the extent to which he has changed him and made him fall in love with him. Dillon is new to this world of danger, he makes mistakes, he has doubts, he get jealous. But as the outside characters even see, these two are in love. Even the supporting characters are interesting and entertaining in this book and series.

This book is an exciting mix of drama, suspense, humor, and romance. I am enjoying watching the lovestory evolve but I am also loving the adventure of them evading and escaping danger. I can not wait for the next book in the series... things are getting really good.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Action packed, terrific characters and an compelling story-line creates a great read.  I really loved the twists and turns of the story and the dual POV presentation i really like. There are some interesting new supporting characters and we find some resolution and new issues come to play.

Marc and Dillon are steamy, sweet, clueless sometimes but great characters.  The plot has me hooked... i am excited to see how this story plays out.

This is book two of the Assassins in Love series and it must be read as part of a series.  It is a continuation of the first book and not a stand-alone story. This book does end on a cliffhanger and i am looking forward to reading the next book when it comes out in November of this year.

I was gifted this book from the author and i freely give my honest opinion and review.

Action packed adventure that picks up right where book 1 left off with Marc and Dillon. Not only are they dodging danger but they're also trying to figure out how to handle their feelings for one another and their progressing relationship. It is a cliffhanger ending and I am anxiously awaiting the next one to see how everything plays out. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

I enjoyed this installment of the series, despite the characters making a whole lot of questionable decisions. I'm not sure how Dillon reached adulthood with his decision-making abilities, really, or how Marc managed to be a successful assassin. (Then again, Marc does say more than once that he felt he was slipping and definitely in need of retirement). Dillon is a conundrum - I often felt like he was just desperate to escape his life, but I don't' really understand exactly why. Sometimes the back and forth between the two characters, as they questioned whether or not the other really wanted to be with them for the long haul might've seemed like overkill, but then again, one could see some validity to their uncertainty.
The suspense was high throughout. I would've finished it in one sitting if I'd not needed to go to bed like a responsible adult.

This pick up right after the ending of book one and man is this another one that has me from beginning to end. So Marc and Dillion are on the run and they are going to stay with Marc ex-lover Ronin. I had felt for Dillon as he trying to have a relationship with Marc who is the most emotional type of guy. Again so much is happening and then in the end I just need more. This is such an amazing series!

Furthers the tale of Dillion and Marc. Dillion is having to adjust to life on the run. Marc is adjusting to having to take care of Dillion. The romance is sweet and seeing the guys adjust to each other is entertaining. Great series and I can’t wait for the final installment.

Another fun filled romp with the boys as they try to escape from the bad guys who are now on their trail. Poor Dillon still finds it hard to not be normal and therefore exposes himself to even more trouble. The addition of Ronin and Gianni have rounded out the crew for more adventures to come.

Seconda parte molto carina.

3.5 stars

The last book ended on a wicked little cliffhanger so I was looking forward to getting this one. Just like the first one it was suspenseful and sexy. This novella was also pretty angsty. In book one the guys fall hard and leave everything behind to take their chance at being together. Book two is them on the run from Julio, the baddie from book one who wants Marc dead.

I liked all of the inner turmoil from the POVs of both MCs. Dillon is understandably scared and way out of his element. Normal people do not think everyone is out to kill them. But that’s the reality he’s found himself in. Marc is still working so he’s alone a lot. Dillon can’t help but question if he’s more to Marc than just a lover since Marc is so closed off emotionally. Marc never wanted to fall for someone. Saying the words out loud prove harder than most of his jobs. In his profession it’s dangerous to have a weakness like caring for someone. He knows Dillon is the one way someone can get to him. Marc is also struggling with the prospect of retiring and being a “normal” person with a boyfriend for the first time ever in his life. He’s afraid Dillon won’t find him exciting anymore if he’s not an assassin. It’s a lot for a new relationship to withstand. Plus the whole people constantly trying to kill them thing is a problem.

I do have to say this book was fairly predictable. That’s not really a bad thing since we all saw this coming. It pretty much had to for the guys to move on. Dillon was frustrating in this book but again it’s not really his fault he’s a friendly guy who trusts people. AGAIN the ending was pretty brutal with a cliffhanger. Book 2 set up a new love story in the making that I’m looking forward to reading more about. It also brings Marc and Dillon right back into danger. These boys just can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Lucky for me I like reading about it!

The deadly game of hide and seek continues for Dillon Carter and Marc Francis. Unfortunately, love for Dillon has distracted Marc from performing the basic assassin rules.

Assassins Love People Too is the second book in the Assassins in Love series. In the first book, Assassins are People Too, Marc is attracted to his neighbor Dillon but never sought an acquaintance until one of Marc's enemies attempts to murder Marc in the elevator. Dillon hits the enemy with a potted plant to save Marc. Instantly, Marc and Dillon develop a strong sexual bond that, months later, develop into a relationship.

Marc Francis is a paid assassin for an unofficial top secret agency in the government. He was recruited during his service in the Army. His assignment is to eradicate serialized murderers. Marc doesn’t do relationships, he has trust issues and he seldom reveals his emotions. This has become an issue between Marc and Dillon. Neither man is sure the relationship is real love. However, Dillon’s identity has been compromised and Marc is determined to protect Dillon.

Dillon is a kindhearted man who rescues discarded plants and looks for the goodness in everyone. Dillon is totally oblivious to the clandestine operation of the political world; he is beginning to realize that polite conversation with the wrong person can have deadly consequences.

Overall, S.C. Wynne’s Assassins Love People Too is enjoyable. However I thought the enemy take-down scene in the latter chapters lacked the intensity required to summon a realistic suspense reaction. The main features of this installment are careless mistakes, insecurity about Marc’s retirement as well as Dillon’s apprehension regarding Marc’s former sex partner. The assassination of a fanatical enemy is not the end of problems for Marc, there is another villain targeting Marc’s friend.

I felt generous with my rating, only because there was at least some action sequences and some new characters. I've read other SC Wynne that I've enjoyed more. This was okay but still fell quite short in character development. The characters aren't being made to feel as if they're communicating at all, or have a real emotional connection. What the hell would they even have conversations about? Marc's off killing people and Dillon spends his time being resentful. We only really see Dillon most of the time. If I could at least have assassination scenes I'd enjoy it more. Or have Dillon and Marc killing people together. The running for their lives kept it moving and meeting Ronin gave some interest. The stand-off was pretty silly. Assassins don't usually have long conversations with the other assassin. Okay, but don't know that I'll keep reading this series.

First, I want to say that you must read book one first, this one starts exactly where the last one off.

Now to that point, I love that this picks up exactly where we are left. One of my dislikes for series or continuations is the flashbacks.

Dillon and Marc are still on the run, they’ve split up but are meeting up to try and figure out how to stop all the madness so Marc can retire and they can start a life together.

As Dillon and Marc learn more about each other, so good so not, we also learn that everyone needs a friend but sometimes those friends are more trouble.

I enjoyed this connection, we saw more of these two, sure but we also learned about Marc’s friend and what his plans are once this thorn is taken out.

A good end and a great beginning.

Assassins in Love #2
This is the sequel to, "Assassins are People Too" and is even better than its predecessor! S.C. Wynne has grown as a writer, just from the first book in this series to this one. Assassins Love People Too has a lot more depth and description than the first and the POV changes are easier to follow. Keep up the good writing and I am looking forward to even more depth and description in the third book in the series…

Yes! Yes! Yes! I love me some assassins.

Assassins Love People Too is book two. You should read Assassins Are People Too to understand what is going on as book two starts off right were book 1 ended.

Marc and Dillon are impossible characters not to like. They are funny and sarcastic, even when they are still running for their lives. Not only are there other assassins trying to kill them, lets throw in ex-boyfriends in the mix (that is also an assassin) and see how Marc and Dillon handle that.

It was another fun read full of suspense and adventure. Can't wait for book three to see how this will end.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily leave my review.
