As if overthrowing the vampire government and implementing a new council to make vampires, shifters, and hybrids play nice wasn’t enough, Demetrius Devereux finds a bigger problem to deal with in an innocent, stubborn, and privileged beauty.

Callista Augustus is the over-protected daughter of a once-powerful vampire leader. Discovering her desperate father has tapped into a well of pure evil, Calli swallows her sense of betrayal and turns him in. She almost regrets it when she meets the infamous and arrogant Demetrius. Forcing herself to work with the male who ruined her family, Calli's only concern is saving her father.

When Demetrius gets past the infuriating personality of the righteous female, he realizes Calli's the one in great danger. He gives her his help out of duty, until it becomes clear that if he loses her, he loses everything.

4 hellfire stars!

ARC kindly provided in exchange for a honest review

This was an excellent read! This is my first book by Marie Johnstone and most definitely not my last. This book had all my favourite elements- vampires, shifters, demons, romance, panty-melting sex scenes, action, suspense and most importantly a deliciously HOT vampire as the hero!

Callista Augustus, a daughter of prime vampires that once ruled the vampire world watches her father become possessed by a demon who plans to open the gates of hell and create a path for 12 other demons to freely walk on earth. She runs to Demetrius Deveraux, the vampire who overthrew her parents rule and created a new council. Although she hates him on principle(as she had to give up her privileged life after her parents were overthrown) he's her only hope. Along with 5 of his other friends, Demetrius must now save Callista and the future from the demons.

This book is a stand-alone with no cliffhangers and the other books in this series will be about the friends of Demetrius. Overall, a definite worth-your-time read!

I’ve been a fan of Marie Johnston since first read Fever Claim (The Sigma Menace #1) by Marie Johnston . I devoured each book in the Sigma Menace series as soon as they were available. When I found out she was starting a new series and the first book was about Demetrius, I almost squeal in excitement. Okay, I squealed. I can’t help it. These books are addictive!

Demetrius, both the book and the vampire, was fantastic. He lived up to my expectations of a vampire with a plan. He was instrumental in the other series, although I won’t tell you why because spoilers! Needless to say, he put up with a lot of stuff in order to see his plan through. In this series, he’s heading up a new organization, one that will benefit vampires and shifters alike.

Calli was an interesting heroine. Normally, I’m not one for the manwhore/virgin troupe, but in this book, it was well done. She had a good reason as to why she remained a virgin, yet that wasn’t her whole personality. She wasn’t defined by her sexuality or lack of it. PS, loved that she watched “videos” so she wasn’t totally naive. Calli didn’t put up with any crap from Demetrius, and called him on a few things. Love a woman who’s willing to stand up for herself.

Ms. Johnston did a great job in setting up for the next books in the series. There are no cliffhangers, just little tidbits that make me want more. Rourke is up next and I’m looking forward to his story.

**Disclaimer – I received this book in exchange for a review. My opinions are my own.**

"Demetrius"
By: Marie Johnston

Clever storyline and graphic love scenes abound in the book. The first half is setting the scene for the "changing of the guard" within the Vampire race. The Old Guard (Vampire Council) found themselves fearful of declining strength and power so decided to try and integrate "dark magic" and demons into their fold. Folly to think they could control the demons they summoned to bond with their offspring. The demons were more than willing to "comply" knowing that once they had unlimited access to the mortal world, they could have free reign to control all super's and humans.

Demetrius (an offspring of a prominent Vampire Council family) took issue with suspicious activities and, along with a few others, banished the Old Council and is still in the process of investigating dark happenings with in the vampire structure. He is trying to create a governing body (Trispecies Synod) that includes shifters, vampires and hybrids to maintain a peaceful coexistence and combine guardian responsibilities. Along comes Callista , also an offspring of one Old guard family, who is seeking assistance from Demetrius to determine if her father has been possessed by a demon. Having no where else to turn, she makes the sacrifice to work with the one person she thinks is responsible for her family's loss of wealth and position. Her mother disappeared when she was 8 years old and she has spent the last 16 + years trying to please and help her father survive with little or no status or income. She blames Demetrius.

On their initial meeting there was immediate attraction (of course) for Demetrius and Callista but unknown events in the past create a barrier for them to pursue what looks to be a "true mate" situation. You see, Callista's mother bound her to a demon when she was just a child and with only a few weeks until her 25th birthday the are on a short countdown to loosing each other and possibly allowing a portal into the mortal realm for the demons.

I bought into the book immediately. Enjoying the Alpha male role of Demetrius and the almost naive role of Callista, I knew that fireworks were coming in both the "control" department and the "sex" department. Although it seemed like Callista was somewhat subservient to her father in the beginning, she is no ones fool. She takes up the mantle and proves to be a worthy addition to the new guard and her new mate.

Just an alert...the graphic sex scenes are more than mere fireworks, they are more like a hydrogen bomb exploded. If that's not your style then just skip about 4-5 chapters and you will still be good to go for the rest of the story. I am excited to read the next installment on Roark (Demetrius' good friend and vampire guard). I always look forward to seeing a unemotional, stalwart alpha male get taken to his knees by some sassy female! Don't know if that's what will happen but I can dream. Ha. I think this book has great merit even without the love scenes. I like the story and know that more of the New Guard antics are on the horizon!

Super book with yummy H. The h is just sassy and innocent enough to pull off baffling him. This was an awesome story about vampires and demons, with a little bit of shifters thrown in (I figure for future use in the series, as they weren't key in this one). Calli's mom 'married' her to a demon when she was little. He isn't her true mate, though. Demetrius has been trying to figure out the link to what was going on between demons and vampires in the major families. I liked that it gave enough background for us to understand what had gone on when he took over the government, but not enough that I was bored. Calli's mom 'left' after a fight with her dad. She finds him with a demon and stuff begins to come to light in pieces afterwords. I liked the love story that was almost between the lines at first and then came to the front and center and announced it was heeeere! Some of the minor players in this one will hopefully get developed more in the futures, as there were some great characters. I will want to read more of this series!

It was a decent read.

While it would not hurt to be more familiar with Sigma series, there was enough concise background information not to be lost and be able to follow the storyline with ease. I liked Callista – she was not a shrinking violet but a fighter. However, what I was not really buying is love between Callista and Demetrius – lust, possessiveness, mad attraction – yes, but something deeper, more solid? I just could not see it.

There were a few shining moments of stellar writing in this novel, nice snippets of humor and intelligence, but unfortunately it mostly felt superficial and rushed. Since this is my first novel by Marie Johnston, I didn't have the benefit of the Sigma series to boost my interest. Be warned: start with that series, not this one.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very entertaining book. I have to say Demetrius is a great vampire and the fact he likes rum and coke with Captain Morgan rose him up a notch lol. I enjoyed reading the story and would like to see it as a movie.

I loved this book. I have to say that I truly enjoy vampire books and this one was no different.
This book has shifters, demons and vampires.

Callista and Demetrius are the 2 main characters and their romance starts in turmoil.
If you like vamps, demons, sex, etc. this is the book for you.

Because I read so many paranormal/shifter/vampire themed books it is always so exciting to find a series that hits the ground running in a slightly different way.

I loved this world in which the old vampire rulers have been overthrown, the new vampires in charge are forging new but slightly strained partnerships with the Shifters and Hybrids and at the top of this new world order is Demetrius, he is powerful comes from old vampire blood and managed to destroy the old Vampire way of life. He didn't really care about how that affected the old rulers and their families until in walks Callista Augustus, daughter of former ruler and it appears she may need more than his help.

Callista is a vampire who has lived in suppression her whole life, her father keeps her locked away, home-schools her and refuses her any kind of social life because her mum walked out on them when Calli was 8. But Calli sees some things in her family home that she can no longer ignore and has to turn to her supposed enemy for help. It soon becomes clear Callista has no real knowledge of the outside world and is in quite a bit of danger.

Demetrius works to not only save Calli but the entire population of earth from being overrun by demonic possession. All while trying to fight against a mating ritual and uphold the pressures of his newly forged leadership roles.

This all made for a wonderful first book in the New Vampire Disorder series. The book had a good solid ending but there is obviously more to come because not everything is peachy keen on earth. Can't wait to start book 2.

Pretty much ruined it that she got stuck with a mate that screwed any female he saw and she was a virgin. He didn’t deserve a mate like her or one at all or to be a vampire. He especially shouldn’t have been in a mate book. Mates and playboys don’t go together. How would you feel knowing there’s someone who completes you in every way, your mate, and he will give you the best mate sex and love you no matter what, still screwed every woman he could find before he met you???? Yeah exactly. He’s a pos and shouldn’t even be a character in a mate romance. Cause guess what, playboys=killed romance. He’s hard for romance to build when the guy doesn’t treasure mates and goes for every female he can find. It makes his mate nothing and their intimacy nothing special.

Hilarious. Quite unexpected. I’ve enjoyed so many vampire series. This world is a little different. I like the humor Marie Johnston brought to the story. It was definitely unexpected. Callista was a strong character. At one point I thought she was slipping into TSTLville. Demetrius was handsome, powerful and funny. I really enjoyed all the characters. Looking forward to Rourke’s story. Should be interesting and hopefully equally entertaining. Highly recommend. However, there several editing errors. Some distracting, but the story is worth it.

Demetrius

4.5 Stars
I don't usually read vampire stories, but with Demetrius being an interesting character from the Sigma Menace series I thought I'd give it a try.
Totally Worth It !
My only problem with it is that there weren't more characters from the S. M. series. Even just a few would have made the transition from one series to the next flow better.
Having said that, I can Highly recommend this book. So much so that I'm going to buy the next book.
And I don't even like vampire books .

Honestly I wasn't too sure if I was going to be able to get past the first few chapters, but I persisted, extremely glad I did. This book was a slow cooker ,but over all I enjoyed reading this book,I'm actually excited to read about the characters in the following series. I would recommend this book and series to someone who enjoys reading romance/paranormal ect.

Demetrius is book #1 of The New Vampire Disorder series and joins The Sigma Menace Series.
Although I liked the story, it didn't captivate me as much as The Sigma Menace Series. But it is probably because there is no further action in the background. Instead the NVD-books are self-contained with the aim of defining the new role of the Synod.
The story is full of action and the notorious woman swarm will live up to his name. - Only this time only for THE one.

Not sure I'm going to read the others in this series.

The hero reads like a teenaged boy and classmates that managed to overthrow the main Council.
They are answerable to a higher body and get told off in the end.

Reads like it was sent in High School.

Good read!

I enjoy reading the vampire romance novels. This was good but I think it was a
Little light in the depth of the plot. The characters were interesting however they felt a little shallow.
