A great tie in into the original Dune story that was faithful to the source materiel.

I love these short stories, a break between the much larger main books. Taking place on Arrakis (Dune) A terrible attack has happened and a number of soldiers find themselves trapped underground. The story tells their tale and gives a great insight into the power of the Jongleur

Dune là một bộ sách/tiểu thuyết đồ sộ. Nếu xếp theo thứ tự thời gian (chronological order) thì A Whisper of Caladan Seas là phần diễn ra trong diễn biến của cuốn tiểu thuyết Dune (đã được chuyển thể thành phim nhiều lần, thành công nhất với Dune của Denis Villeneuve, và tháng 3/2024 sẽ có Dune phần 2 ra rạp), và phần này ở số thứ tự 24/37 theo trình tự thời gian. Để chuẩn bị tốt nhất trước khi đọc quyển novel thứ 2 (Dune Messiah) trong serie thì bên cạnh A Whisper of Caladan Seas còn nên đọc trước Blood of the Sardaukar, The Waters of Kanly, Paul of Dune nữa.
Trong đoạn ngắn này, nội dung câu chuyện xoay quanh góc nhìn của Elto kể từ khi anh ta đặt chân lên Dune, và khoảng thời gian mà nhà Atreides bị đánh úp, cho đến khi cả nhóm của họ cùng bỏ mạng trong hang động.
Cái chết đến với họ từ từ, khó chịu, không dễ dàng. Nhưng họ đã cùng nhau hồi tưởng về những ngày tốt đẹp trên Caladan, qua những con sóng, mùi biển. Mặc dù chết khổ sở trên sa mạc khô cằn, nóng bức, nhưng họ lại cùng nhau ra đi rất hạnh phúc. Họ chọn “chết đuối” tại một nơi không có nước.
Một đoạn chuyển tiếp rất buồn và cảm xúc, lên phim thì đến đoạn này đúng là cũng phải lặng đi một chút.

Short story set during the fight for Dune between Harkonnens and Atreides.
(the first big battle in the original Dune book)
The story introduces some of the lower level soldiers of the Atreides, but it does it in a bit of a simplistic way. Not that the original six books ever cover that part of the story though.

Relato corto que se mantiene anodino hasta su último tercio. Un nuevo mundo y una vieja casa casi desaparecida, Jongleur, que añadir a la mitología de Dune.

Weak, unoriginal story telling that continues to erode the themes of Frank's books while introducing a new house that is so silly and doesn't fit within the Dune universe at all.

It's a nice self contained story that highlights the rich seas of Caladan and the capabilities of House Jongleur.
