Erie, Indiana is crime-free for the first time since heiress Katherine, aka Katz, and her cats moved into town. Everyone is at peace until domestic harmony is disrupted by an uninvited visitor from Brooklyn. Why is Katz’s friend being tracked by a NYC mob? Meanwhile, ex-con Stevie Sanders wants to go clean, but ties to dear old Dad (Erie’s notorious crime boss) keep pulling him back. Murder, lies, and a million-dollar theft have Katz and her seven extraordinary cats working on borrowed time to unravel a mystery. Enjoy this cozy, stand-alone novel, or learn more about these amazing characters by exploring the first book in their series, “The Cats that Surfed the Web.”
I really enjoy this series. I love that the cats play a big role in the plots. Katz and Jake are now married and living with their seven cats. They all have their own personality that makes it the stories fun. Katz and Jake are back in the pink mansion after living in the bungalow while repairs are being done on the mansion. Katherine aka Katz, by the way, inherited money and the mansion from an aunt. We should all be so lucky!! Katz and Jake discover a hidden room in the attic which make the house even more interesting. Katz gets involved in another mystery that ends up involving some the Russian mafia.
It took me awhile to get into this one, the first half of the book just wasn't holding my interest. Although it had a great plot, it just seemed a little unfocused; it didn't flow as well as the other books in the series.
As I said, the plot was great. Katz's old school friend Madison shows up unexpectedly on her doorstep after her plane was diverted from Chicago to Indianapolis. Russian mobsters, a missing package and lots of bullets ensue, all in the midst of a blizzard. While the plot took awhile to get going, it made up for it in the last half of the book, with a satisfying ending.
Overall, an enjoyable read in a great series, and I recommend the series to cozy mystery fans.
This was excellent! Very reminiscent of the "Cat Who..." series by Lillian Jackson Braun. The cats in this series are more plentiful, but it is the pair of Siamese, Abra and Scout who are the main stars of the series. They are the ones who know when danger is coming, and when someone is about to die. They are also the ones who help Katz out of the predicaments she finds herself in. A great read and one I would gladly recommend to anyone!
This is the seventh in the series and tied for the most exciting one. Russian mobsters, a radically changed friend from school, stolen jewels, a snow storm, and all seven cats make this book interesting and hard to put away. This is not a deep nor complicated read -- read this for entertainment and relaxation. If I have to complain at all, I do wish the ending were a little tighter. It feels like Ms. Golden didn't really want to stop writing.
A fast and satisfying read, this series takes place close to where I live! Small town Indiana has its pros and cons, but more pros and unusual characters. Love the Siamese and Abyssinian cats, my most favorite kinds of cats, Ms Golden knows these Well! Thank you Ms Golden for more fun and mysteries to keep me entertained!
I love this series of books and each one holds a different mystery and the family seems to keep growing and finding ways to outsmart their parents. I would love to just sit and be able to read the entire series. I read them as I can and get more attached to Katz, Jake and their fur family with each new book.
While its always better to start with book 1. However story plot is great, characters believable. I enjoy this author very much, ready to read the next in the series
A childhood friend of Katz', from Brooklyn, shows up. But she has been followed by bad guys, who put Katz and her neighbors in serious danger. Again, the cats provide warnings and humor.

Fun relaxing quick very enjoyable read. The cats and their personalities are delightful. There iis never a dull moment. So sorry that this appears to be the last book in the series. Karen Ann Golden please give us more of your writing talent and these wonderful cats.
Fantastic book. Exciting to say the least and a real page turner. A little murder and mayhem in the quiet town of Erie, Indiana, Katz is trying to find out who dunit.
The cats are back at it again. The mischievous little devils know a thing or two, and always let Katz in on what's going on. They have there certain ways of communicating.
Wait and see what happens because I assure you it will be a wonderful read.
The Cats that Stole a Million by Karen Anne Golden
This is the 7th book in this series. Did I like the book? Well, I started it just before midnight on 4/13 and finished it about 3 a.m. on 4/14. :-) Yes, I simply could not find a good spot to put it down, so I kept reading it until I reached "the end!" Fun and exciting read.
I'll admit that it helps that the author lives in my general area, and that her books are filled with references to places and events with which I am familiar. This very much helps me feel that I am inside the action.
Great proofing and editing. Fine plotting and pacing (hey -- I couldn't put it down, what more could an avid reader ask?). Her characters, even if just introduced and meant only for this episode, are well described and fleshed out. Her continuing characters develop with every series entry. When danger arises, it does so fast and furiously, and manages to pull disparate threads in the story into a nice, neat bow.
In this episode it's winter in Mid-North Indiana, and (unlike our actual 2016 winter) the skies have opened up and the snow is falling -- and falling, and falling! Jake needs to heed to Chicago to be a presenter at a conference, but first he needs to teach his new bride about snow angels. They've just moved back into the pink mansion, after extensive work necessitated by the destruction to a portion of the mansion in the last novel. He wants to remodel the attic to move his office up there, and, while showing Katz what he has planned, they discover a hidden room and staircase that leads to the basement and out of the house. It's been closed up a very long time, obviously unused, and the staircase is damaged near the bottom. Curious, but Jake needs to get his trusty Jeep on the road in order to stay ahead of the storm and road closures. Further exploration and possible restructuring of the new find will wait till he returns.
Meanwhile, Stevie Sanders has decided he needs to head to Kentucky and reclaim his daughter from a dangerous situation. His brother, Dave, goes with him, knowing that Stevie's ex-wife's family may not welcome him with open arms. Once there, he learns his ex has just passed from a drug overdose and that her funeral was earlier in the day. He and Dave go out to the house and his ex-MIL agrees, begrudgingly, that his 13 year old daughter should return home with him.
Back in Indiana, Katz gets a call from her BFF Colleen telling her that her mother (Colleen's) ran into one of Katz's old friends, Madison, and gave her Katz's phone and address. Madison and Katz were good friends when they were kids, but they haven't seen each other since high school graduation. Madison went on to have a modeling career, although she is now working as a temp in an office in New York. Then, unexpectedly, in the middle of a snowstorm, Madison shows up on Katz's doorstep.
So, what how will these three disparate plot lines come together? Dangerously, that's how! If you're dying to know, just pick up a copy of this fun read and find out!
My only complaint is that I read it so fast and now have to wait for the next one to come out.
The Cats that... is a series of cat cozy mysteries that are fun and a quick read. I got attached to the characters and am ready for new books to come out. This book The Cats That Stole a Million was a very fast read, almost short story like. I enjoyed it as is usual for me in this series. I call these kinds of books brain fun. It doesn't take a lot of mental work to read them, but it is a fun, relaxing quick get away for a few hours.
The premise is a young woman inherits all her great aunt's estate which includes more money than she can shake a stick at, multiple real estate holdings, etc. She also has collected to date 7 cats. Fun cat characters who act pretty much like cats but still manage to do a few out of this realm things to help solve the mystery. Set in Hoosier country, it is enjoyable to get a feel for that part of the US and the characters we meet, both human and animal.
I'm giving this book an 8. Would have been a 10, but was just a tad unbelievable. I love the series as a whole. Especially the antics of the cats and how sassy they can be. I once lived with 9 cats , sadly they have all gone to the Rainbow Bridge, most were rescues. I now have another rescue part Siamese who is a real porker. She is a brat when she wants something. Usually treats or her dinner! Her name is Sushi. Don't stop writing . You and Jake. And the kids are my absolute favorites. I have read all the books, can't wait for #8. Thank you for being our friend. Liz
I really like this cozy cat series and The Cats that Stole a Million had me reading quickly to see what would happen next. Ms Golden managed to pack a lot of action into the story, yet gave the reader to catch up with our favorite characters.
It was especially nice to see Jake and Katz and their furry kids, I do love those cats. I also enjoyed watching bad boy Stevie move along the good guy trail, he is a very interesting character. I look forward to each new installment of this fun series.
This was a fast entertaining mystery. I love Katz and all of her cats. They all work out the mystery together and have a very exciting time doing it. I borrowed this book from the Amazon lending library so I wouldn't have to wait to read it. I love Karen Ann Golden's books and hope to see her write many more. Buy them if funds permit or borrow them. Just read them and you'll be hooked.
This latest Katz & furry kids book has her new husband Jake driving through a blizzard, a secret staircase, an old friend dropping in, and a new neighbor. Through it all the cats are feisty, playful, and full of themselves and Katz kind of stumbles along behind them. Big scares for feline leukemia and Russian mob make this quite a suspenseful book. It seems unbelievable that Katz, growing up in Brooklyn, NY, didn't know what a snow angel was.
I love this series! I have read them all. Can't wait for the next one already. So much happens in these books. Love the characters. Having cats being such a big part of the books is awesome. If you want a great series to read ,thus is it. I highly recommend this series
7th in the series. Wonderful continuing saga of the 7 cats and their humans.
I consider it a privilege to read the 7th book in this series. I hope that the next one is sooner rather than later. Love the ability ability of the cats. About y ans Scout to warn their humans of impending trouble. Can not wait for the next adventure.
I'm normally not a car person, but I'm finding by meeting these cats that I could become one. When an old friend from high school comes for a visit, trouble in the pink house increases. So does danger. I love this series and hope there will be more to come.
I just love this series of books. The characters are interesting and the story is well written. You can't wait to turn the page and see what happens next. I wonder what the next story will be about.
