Ah, Evy and Constantine, how happy I was to be reunited with you once more. I do love this series and I wasn't let down by this third instalment at all.
As ever, Evy's character develops through the story as she finds herself in new situations - this time around she has to learn to rein herself in and not just barge into everything feet first. The unexpected disappearance of her lightning forces Evy to do some soul-searching and she learns that sometimes she has to rely on other people to help her, even if she isn't sure she can trust them.
There was more of the technical side of the time-travel aspect of the stories in Storm Front and that did take a bit of concentration to get into my head but it all made sense as you read on. I love this side of the books - it is refreshingly different and anything that involves Tesla is going to be a winner.
It wasn't all intense soul-searching and time-travel shinnanigans, there were plenty of romantic interludes to stop everything from getting too much. Hardly surprising given Constantine's existance - he is far too big, strong and handsome to ignore for too long!
I loved discovering more about the history of the Lightning Riders and a few of the twists were totally surprising in the best way - I love it when I don't see things coming. Lots of questions from the previous books were answered and a few more new ones asked - I am hoping this means it wasn't the last of Evy and Constantine's stories and there are more to come in the future.
My only issue was that there seemed to be a few words missing scattered through the text but not enough to take me out of the story or disrupt my reading - they will probably be picked up in a future edition.
If you are a fan of steamy romance, Nikola Tesla, time-travel adventures, kick-ass female lead characters or fast-paced adventures then I seriously reccomend getting your hands on the Tesla's Time Travelers series and giving them a go. They are one of my favourites.
For me this was by far the worst of the first three books in the Tesla Time Travellers series. Apart from Gray popping up with a weapon that can disable Evy's lightning nothing really happens of any note and it all feels like a rehash of the previous two books. I get that time is a loop so events will overlap but we just seem to spend all our time either revisiting previous events or putting up with Evy's moping/intimacy with Constantine.
I did enjoy the first two books but this one I was racing to finish and not in a good way - I just wanted it all to be over so I could move on to something else.
The things we needed to know from this book were finally addressed towards the end but we still don't know exactly where Tianna went to when she disappeared from the warehouse. The relationship between Evy/Penya, Penya/Ilif and Evy/Ilif had a sort of resolution but it does raise the question if you can travel through time and time is a loop can you ever really be dead?
None of this is really resolved in order to pave the way for further books in the series but as this one felt like we were running out of ideas rather quickly I don't think I'll bother with them. Really this should have been a 1 Star review but I did enjoy the final confrontation scene so I marked it up for that alone.
Love the mingling of facts, people and places in this series. As a fan of Tesla and all he contributed to this world, this series plays with his version of possibilities. The love story flowing in the background just adds to the connection I had with the characters and story. Great fantasy read.
Jen Grayson has taken a good series and turned it spectacular with book 3! I could see how much Evy has grown in this book and (as always) I love Constantine!!! Great reveals in this story that I didn't see coming from the first two books. The whole book was intense with a few breathers of romance and humor.
