Ever Afters #2

End of Summer

Rate this book
The Afters Brothers Are Cursed

Grizzly shifter Braxton Afters is a creature of chaos. He wrestles with his beast every waking day. Even constant brawls at the local bar don’t sate its ire. Add on the strain of a decade-long curse, and you have one angry, aimless bear. As his final summer draws to an end, Braxton doubts he’ll ever find a mate who could put up with both him and his inner monster.

Grace Florrie knows monsters. She’s painted them often enough thanks to her animal’s unorthodox gifts. Grace never thought of her visions as a blessing, though. Their horror taught her to keep a tight grip on herself. Control, after all, is the only way she maintains her sanity.

When Braxton rescues Grace from the sinister schemes of a wicked witch, he has no idea that Grace might just rescue him in return. With the equinox looming over Ever Afters Farm and Orchards, chaos and control collide. Can Braxton and Grace find a balance even as the mystery surrounding the Afters sleuth unfurls around them?

MY absolute favourite bear shifter family is back with a bang!!! Braxton the 2nd brother in the Afters quadruplets to have a shot at gaining a mate and beating the curse that has hit his family. He knows that his mate has got the short end of the stick..he's not an alpha, a comic or a nerd. He's more likely to cause a fight! But when the family's new found witch in residence tells him his mate is on trouble he blasts into action.

Grace is a raven shifter (totally new shifter for me!!!) who, unlike others of her kind, can only see flashes of the past, not the future. She only needs the faintest touch to set off these visions, and so she has secluded herself in the tiniest, outwardly nice town she could find. But she still finds evil in the prettiest setting and can't figure out what to do with the information she has. But when she is kidnapped and locked in a cage by a witch, she determines to make sure she lives life a bit more.

But what will happen when a self diagnosed freak of nature and a personality bigger than Texas meet? Will it be plain sailing to their HEA or will there be more than the usual relationship worries in store for these fated mates?

I'm really enjoying this family of shifters!! Vangie is just...explosively enthusiastic LOL. Hou and Hope return from their trek and lend a hand too. There is a major twist and I was gobsmacked at one point but was a bit sad when things straightened back out :( Well crafted storyline and great characters. Can't wait to see what happens next!!!

Worth the wait, now to wait for the next book.
You really need to have read the previous two books to get a complete understanding of what this series is about.
The Four Quadruplet Afters brothers get another story told. This time it is summer and Braxton’s turn to get a chance with his mate but once again nothing goes smoothly and we get such a great read.
There is just so much going on and we get loads more information about why they were cursed.
I loved that Braxton’s mate Grace is also a shifter and how special she is.
Fantastic having Evangeline more present and Clementine really is the star of the show.
The highs and lows of this story are mesmerising and one has to feel sorry for all parties, even the rotten Paynes.
What happened to the boys parents was a shock but I loved how they dealt with Patience.
I cannot wait to read the next book to see how they save Dalton’s mate Sophie and what more we will learn.
This is one of the best series I have read and though I hate the long gap between books, it is so worth the wait.

Braxton is a bear shifter. Is only awake 3 months out of the year. All because a witch who was friends of his father's put a curse on the quadruplet brothers. The only way they know how to break the curse is by mating before their 10 year of the curse. Sadly this is the 10th year. Grace is a raven shifter who has been abducted by werewolves. When Braxton comes to rescue Grace they both know they are each others mates. He doesn't know if he truely wants a mate, and she doesn't really believe in soul mates. Can these two work throw their differences and truely see each other before the summer solstice. Can they truely break Braxton's curse. Need to read book 1 in this series before this book. Great read. Cannot wait for book 3.

When I first read Winter solstice I was upset that it in a cliffhanger. And it wasn't even concluded and then the very next book. But as I've read on in this series I have to admit that I love the setup. This author's books are full of History and backstory, without feeling tentative or just filler. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

4.5* stars

This is Braxton and Grace's story.

Braxton, like his other three bear-shifter brothers, is cursed to sleep and only awake during one season - his is the summer months. Braxton only has this last small window of time to find a mate. Unlike his brother Houston, who has already found his mate and broken his curse, Braxton is not convinced he needs or wants a mate. He is not at ease with his bear and this causes a lot of pent up aggression and unease.

Grace is a raven shifter and keeps herself isolated and alone due to her ability to "see" people's past and not their futures, when she is touched. This *gift* has caused her to suffer pain and be exposed to some horrific images. She has resigned herself to being alone when she is kidnapped and caged, enter Clementine and then Braxton to save the day....

Their path to true love is a little crooked with a few pot-holes across the way. Both have to start to trust, an emotion that is difficult to do and a few times, one or other point blank refused to take that leap of faith. Emotions ran high in this story - both having to come to a better understanding with their inner-animals, their bond and the future. It was interesting to see the family pull together, even under immense distress. I loved the history of the "first families" and how the mythological creatures came about - all from witches, it was an interesting concept. There was still plenty of banter and humour - especially from Vangie. I even giggled when Grace drew on Dalton's forehead, childish behaviour, but definitely a boyish prank!

Clementine was again, another large part of this story and puts herself above and beyond in duty to the family - she had her research geek'ary down to a fine art. I just wish she would maybe sneak a peek at Clayton occasionally.......after all, he sleeps with her jacket under his pillow.....*sigh*....

The only little quibble I had with the story is the big fight scene - I have no qualms about the "explosion" that happened - you have to have a high octane scene when fighting wendingo's and freaks of the night - but I think reading the intense atmosphere of the event, it may have fallen over itself in the rush of chaos and mess, there was such a lot going on - my brain scrambled a little and I had to re-read to take it all in!!

Overall, I just can't get enough of this series, I love it! Another thoroughly entertaining read! It ends on a HFN, with the curse broken for Braxton. That's two brother done, two to go - now the Autumn months are here, Dalton is next.....can't wait!!!

I loved End of Summer. End of Summer is the second book in the Ever Afters Series. I loved the storyline and the characters. I loved the chemistry between Braxton and Grace. I loved how Clayton’s mate Clementine, who is a witch, helps Braxton find his mate. She has a theory that if the Afters brothers can find their mates before they are supposed to go back to sleep, then they will break their curse and get to stay awake. I loved that Braxton thinks of himself as the fuck-up of the family and that Grace also thinks of herself as the fuck-up of the family. I loved that they fix each other and that Braxton turns out to be Graces anchor and with an anchor Grace can finally touch people without seeing all of the nastiness in their lives. I loved that with Clementine and Grace’s help they were able to defeat the sinister witch and all of their schemes and break the curse on Braxton. I can’t wait to see what Dalton has to go through in order to find his mate and break his curse. I received this free book in exchange for an honest review.

A season of a broken grizzly and busted raven!! 4.7 stars

Grace is a raven-shifter who has been kidnapped by wolves. Left in a small cage with a broken wing that never healed right, she only has her premonitions to keep her company. The scene that is on replay is a handsome man who dies. Useless, but something to think about other than her captivity. Braxton is a grizzly-shifter, one of 4 brothers under a curse, only one is awake each season until they find their mate. Braxton is requested by witch Clementine to rescue Grace, and as soon as he scents Grace he knows she is his mate!

Grace welcomes rescue and senses this bear is the man in her dreams, who is not dead, and who is her mate. Upon release she touches Clementine, and sees that her bear has broken her heart. So much for mate. But when she shares this with Braxton, he clarifies that his brother is the one who broke Clementine’s heart. Always seeing the worst event of their lives when she touches people, Grace is afraid to be near Braxton as she has seen his demise enough in her dreams.

Can Grace accept Braxton as her mate, and could this break Braxton’s portion of the curse? Another chapter in the Afters saga full of intrigue, danger, heartbreak, and sexy grizzly-shifters.

This is book 2 of the series (if you don't count the novella that was in the book combo Shifters in the Snow.)

The series is about 4 bear shifter brothers and each have their own story. Since the story progresses, I really recommend reading the other two books before reading this one. You probably could read this as a stand alone, but the series is so good anyway, I don't recommend that. Take the time to read them all, you'll be glad you did.

This is written as a multi pov and does have an HEA for the couple (Braxton and Grace). This story gave us a lot of back story via Grace as to how things have come to be for the shifter brothers. It was a highly entertaining read.

Awesome story line, great descriptions to details (explained things nicely in a way that wasn't boring or bogged down), awesome characters, and their dialogue flowed really well. Easy to follow and made me feel as if I was a part of the conversation.

No teary eyed or heart twinge moments, but this book didn't need them. It was a stand up read, all on it's own. Can not wait to read Dalton's story next. I don't know if I can wait too long.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely

Would I read more from this author? Absolutely

Braxton is a bear shifter from a family that has been cursed by a witch. He and his brothers must each find their mates to save themselves. His oldest has recently found his mate. He is not so sure he is even ready for a mate. He likes to flirt and have fun. He also likes to fight. When he is introduced to his mate, he realizes just how much he does want one.

Grace is a raven shifter who feels like she will never find someone. She does not operate like other raven shifters and suffers horrible images from the past. When she meets Braxton, she realizes she may have a chance for a real life with a family.

It is not an easy path for them or the ones they love. They will have to figure out who is after them and fight for their love.

I really enjoyed the story. It is very well written and has a great storyline. The characters are fun and intense and I look forward to reading more stories featuring them finding their mates. There are surprises that keep it interesting.

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Braxton Afters wakes from the families curse to find Houston awake and mated. Braxton never thought he wanted a mate until he finds out that he does indeed have one, and she was captured by a witch and is being held by wolf shifters. Grace Florrie is a raven shifter and has been kept in a magical cage for months. Braxton and his sleeping brother's mate, the witch Clementine, find Grace and rescue her from her prison. Just like Braxton, Grace never thought she would have a mate, but when she sees Braxton she knows that he is hers. Of course, the two will still have to survive the equinox and the evil that is determined to destroy the entire Afters family. Wow, I love these books. The characters get even more interesting as there series continues. The plot continues to unfold in each subsequent book, it grabs you and doesn't let you go until the final word, and leaves you anticipating the next book. Fantastic, I am looking forward to the next book in the series!!

I'd been waiting for this book with every fiber of my being since I'd finished Rite of Spring. I was SO excited to get to know Braxton more, and I pretty much devoured this book and reveled in the gorgeous, wonderful, complex character of Braxton Afters. I love him so much I don't think I can properly explain with words, maybe I could in a variety of screams and cries. But words are not enough. And the same goes for the beautiful, clever, talented Grace.

I'm especially in awe of the talent behind this story, the wide and powerful imagination that constructed such a universe with its own mythology, with a past and present and characters linked all through centuries. It's amazing how much it feels like you're watching a movie while reading this book, that's how much the story pulls you in with such vivid images and impressive story telling.

I am enjoying the heck outta this series!!! It has it all: bear shifters, witches, curses, evil from the past, and, of course, the true love needed to break the curse. In this book, we have Braxton, the second oldest werebear brother, and Grace, a raven shifter. Braxton and Grace don't seem to have as hard a time things as Houston and Hope did but the evil is very real and strong and working against them and their happiness. We also find out more about the origin of the curse the brothers are under, thanks to Grace's psychic abilities. Everyone has to work together to save Braxton and Grace from the curse. Will they be successful? And how will the curse be finally broken? Will all the brothers find their true mates? I cannot wait to find out!! I'm anxiously awaiting Dalton's book.

How Can They Keep Getting Better?

I like to read books that have a feeling of continuity, where you know multiple characters but nothing really leaves you hanging. I'm not a real fan of a single story that cuts off completely when the characters get in a fix and you have to wait to find out how they get out of it. This book is perfect because you have characters you're already friends with, a romance that's wonderful and while you know there's still things everyone needs to work out no one is left hanging off the cliff. I definitely recommend this series of books.

Intrigue, mystery, shifters, witches, and family

Working together to break a curse, family and love prevail over dark forces. Quadruplet bear shifters cursed by a witch must each find their true mate to break it. Each having only their season to do so. Rejection, misunderstanding, and horrible visions of dark deeds, fighting to become a stronger family and break their wretched curse. Very well written, the characters are endearing or horrifying can't atop reading. Must read in order. I can't wait for fall.

Book One Better

Why is it, that book two never lives up to book one standards? Book Two had to much magic, instead of romance and regular action. The main characters were hilarious and lovable.
