Excerpted from wikipedia: Jacques Fabrice Vallée (born September 24, 1939 in Pontoise, Val-d'Oise, France) is a venture capitalist, computer scientist, author, ufologist and former astronomer currently residing in San Francisco, California.
In mainstream science, Vallée is notable for co-developing the first computerized mapping of Mars for NASA and for his work at SRI International in creating ARPANET, a precursor to the modern Internet. Vallée is also an important figure in the study of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), first noted for a defense of the scientific legitimacy of the extraterrestrial hypothesis and later for promoting the interdimensional hypothesis.

There is some very important information in this book, probably on how Vallee was fooled by people in power and he didn't even realize it. One has to deal with the process of seeing the man become a gigantic arrogant person, surrounded by even more arrogant people, he starts to repeat mindless rubbish and still manages to self-congratulate himself for eternity. The lack of self-awareness is rampant. You have also to endure the massive amount of ad hominem that he threw at Budd Hopkins, and the attacks go beyond this volume. His best work, which is beyond anything else in ufology, became a thing of the past, we have to deal with this character. Go and find out for yourselves.
It gets clear on how ufology was manipulated and Vallee was a tool in it, and he still is, as he promotes some very dubious "academics".
I have to warn the readers again, the level of arrogance is very high there. The author is a genius, no doubt, he backpaddled on his best works. Keeps contradicting himself, then accuses his critics of not being "sophisticated" enough to understand him. Go figure.
At least his normal self returned a little bit by the end of the 00s, and he is less of a massive pain in the neck now
