Ivan Rustanov, Russian brute and recluse and sassy but cute Sola were just "the yin to her yang" and I loved them together! There were twists and turns as my sister says making "Her Russian Brute: 50 Loving States, Idaho" priceless! This book I just savored it by reading it slowly because their was so much comedic relief and gut wrenching tears involved throughout this evolving storyline!
The newer minor characters- Anitra, Scott, Brian, Eddie; Vanessa, Lorraine, Gregory, Hannah were such memorable characters. Oh, I can't forgot about that setting of Idaho and that weird 'kingdom house'and to know there will be a new owner, a close friend of Alexei Rustanov by the name of Mr. Drak'on! I can't wait on that one... hint, hint!
Yes, Alexei and Eva are also in this story with Nikolai and Sirena and others during the Christmas phone call from Ivan! Loved that!
So who in the world did Anitra marry without her best friend, Sola knowing anything of his?
I really felt for the hero after his accident. Before he was a spoiled brat and manwhore of epic proportions as was the evidence from first chapter. His interactions with the heroine was highlight of the book. heroine was kind and sweet. Her caring nature was essential for hero’s healing. And her sleeping disorder and the after effect of that, I enjoyed very much. Also the scene with Alexei, Boris and Sirena other main player from the series.
But what I had problem believing was, there was a scene of murder in last chapter which happened infront of heroine. Eventhough the murder saved her life, she wasn’t traumatized or sad. Eventhough the dead person was once very close to her. How could that be? In safety area, there was one flashback scene from his past. Still recommended.
Short yet good retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It worked, and was fun :-) Great characters etc. Hmmm, when I like something that's all I wanna say, "I liked."
Again, Teddy should put her notes a bit further back from the ending of the book.
This is hard to rate for me. Usually 4 stars means a book I would put on my always reading/ read every year list. I think I would read this again but I would have to over look some issues. So, it's a 3.5 star read that I am rounding up.
The Good: Ivan! I was worried he was going to be an inconsistent ass like Boris. Not so. His angst was well earned, he didn't take it out on Sola, and he was never nasty or verbally abusive. He had one or two deserves a kick to the crotch moments but Sola was his even change. Sola was fun but had some plot driven TSTL moments that I couldn't abide. I liked her but found her to be way too naive for someone who had survived what she had. It was so much better than Her Russian Beast as far as characterization and story telling. The set up for her best friend! We only meet her through phone conversations but she was great and I think she will be a fun leading lady.
The Bad: Way too much telling, not enough showing. We got sex and a few conversations but a lot of their time together is glossed over with time jumps. We spent too much time with the villain. Sola and Ivan don't meet until chapter 8, I found that odd for such a short book. Her disorder was a funny but really contrived way of getting past the fact that they barely knew each other. Ivan's rather descriptive dream was unnecessary. I was a little surprised Taylor felt the need to state that Sola was not black but a Latina with "an African ancestor". Just, why? Especially as this whole series is labeled bw/wm... The ending was time jump, randomness, HEA!
Overall, I liked both leads, loved the Beauty and the Beast theme, but I wish the romance had gotten more time to cook.
This is Ivan and Sola's story, which is the next stop in the 50 Loving States series. When Ivan was first introduced in the previous story, I'm sure many were left wondering what made him into the angry jerk that he was portrayed to be. Without giving away the story line, let me just say, he definitely had his reasons. He just need the right person to come along to show him that he still has a reason to let go of the past and move on. That person just happened to be Sola. The two of them have more in common than they could ever imagine. If they can let go of past hurts and losses, maybe they can have a future together that neither of them ever dreamed of. This Beauty conquers Beast love story was very entertaining, with both Ivan and Sola both trying to prove that they won't be out done by the other. When they first meet up I think these to very stubborn characters are to busy trying to stay in control to realize that maybe they could be really good for one another if other they just gave each other a chance. This was another great read from Ms Taylor and I give it 4 stars!
Ivan and Sola's story. Although I enjoyed their story I did not find it as compelling as the other stories.
Too much time was spent about why Sola had such a hard life and why Ivan was withdrawn from the world. I wished that the author had spent more time on the couple being a couple and having a deeper dialogue regarding their relationship. I did not find Ivan to be a Brute at all. He was injured and grieving and the way he was behaving was totally understandable.
Another good book by Ms. Taylor. I received an advance review copy (ARC) for the honest review below.
Ivan, Ivan, Ivan...we last met Ivan in his cousin Boris' story "Her Russian Beast: 50 Loving States, New Mexico." He was not an endearing character in that story and Sirena Boris' wife laid him out. In this story we learn the heartache that Ivan suffers at the loss of his family. This story has a "Beauty and the Beast" like quality to it, with Marisol being "Beauty" and Ivan "the Beast," due to the scarring of his face from the bomb that killed his family.
Marisol is not without her own trouble and torment in the form of her abusive boyfriend Scott. We learn Marisol's story when she tries to break it off with Scott and to say that he doesn't take it well is putting it lightly. We Sola wakes up from Scott putting her to sleep, more like to TKO type she learns that her second father Brian is being held in a cage and she takes off to rescue him. As Sola takes Brian's place to remain with Ivan she lets him know in no certain terms that she will not sleep with him, no nookie for the room she will be occupying in this house.
This book as a paranormal twist to it...when they started saying things like 'during full moons' there is a curfew enforced. We soon find out why and this has Ivan coming to Sola's rescue, but also triggering Sola's sleepwalking right into Ivan's bed! Aww suki, suki now, Ivan thinking that Sola came to him of her own according decides to see what can they set on fire during the light of day only to learn that Sola is not aware of her late night actions!
Will beauty be able to tame her beast or will the real beast in Sola's life find her? So it looks like Sola's best friend will get her own story as well. I can't wait to read that story, I wonder who he is. I love the way this author interlinks her characters.
I loved all the Rustanov men! I loved how they were all related and as usual I love the author's one degree of separation that flows through all of her books. This wasn't my favorite of the four but I still enjoyed it. I say read all her books! Especially the Rustanov ones. You won't be disappointed. I need my own Rustanov man..Now about that lil town with the peculiar curfews...hmm? Sounds like a book!
Sola and Ivan's story is another stop in the 50 Loving States tour. I received an ARC copy for an honest review and I thoroughly enjoyed this story. There were some very comical moments, sexy moments and heart warming moments in this book. It was a bit Beauty and the Beast-like ...but much better! I can't wait for the next book in the series!
I enjoyed this couple but the whole premise was fantastical and the dramatic reveal/fake out at 87% was corny. Interesting on the paranormal angle. I definitely want to read about the new buyer of the mansion. I'm thinking vampire
I enjoyed this [final?] entry of the Russian men in Ms. Taylor's '50 Loving States" series (my fave of the sub-series is still "Her Russian Beast"). Ivan is a mess but it's totally understandable why he's so angry in his grief. Sola is a fierce little package with a warm heart and an awful ex-boyfriend... even if he doesn't want to accept he's an ex. They definitely do not 'meet cute,' in fact Ivan is pretty much an autocratic punk upon their first meeting. His bad attitude doesn't stop sparks from flying between them, though.
There's some angst in this story but it's mostly a hopeful tale of embracing the truth. Sola is a strong woman but at times she's too forgiving. Ivan is a strong man but his grief makes him lash out at those who invade his solitary brooding. The two make it work as a couple for me as they're completely complementary yet not always easily comfortable when their personalities clash.
This story also includes a bit of paranormal elements, one scene in particular made me laugh out loud as Ivan is quite the brute but he's effective in a dangerous situation.
Totally not what I expected. Ivan was pretty awful in Bair and Serena's story, but I kinda loved him in this one. He knew he was wrong for what he did to Sola, but once he realized the effects of what he had done, he set about to make things right.
The whole wolf angle was interesting. I thought it was very strange that Ivan and Sola weren't more curious about the attempted wolf attack, because I certainly had questions. Can't wait to see what that story is.
I enjoyed this story. Just wish it had been longer.
p.s. The previous 3 books in this series were included with this book, which means I get to read Her Russian Protector. Yay!!!
Had to change my rating after finishing Her Russian Protector. This is my absolute favorite of the series. Loved Nikolai! And Pavel. And Back Up. And as much as I loved Sirena/Thel, Sam is my new favorite. I'm gonna miss these crazy Rustanovs!
Oh my! another brilliant story by Theodora, okay spoiler alert ahead, who wants to guess that that little Town in Idaho is filled with Werewolves. I say it is and second what do you think Damianos is I think a Vampire but we'll see. This was definitely a five star read. Trust Theodora to create a character who sleep walks and has guilt free hot sex with the hero or the anti hero as the case may be here. I was surprised by her decision to restore the hero's face but not unpleasantly so. That said I'm totally team Ivansol and I loved loved loved this story.
Another great story in this Russian series from Theodora Taylor. I enjoyed the Beauty and Beast dynamic between Sola and Ivan. The story is told in the same vein as the others with a strong/feisty yet broken woman and a man who is also carrying lots of weight on his shoulders and how they overcome these obstacles to find love within each other. It's really great. I mean, even though I know how these stories end, I cannot get enough of them. I just love a HEA and how they get to it! You won't be disappointed if that's what you like too. Enjoy.
I love this series, I have read them all and they have me hooked! Sola and Ivan where hot and sweet at the same time. I love the whole Beauty and the Beast/Phantom of the opera type romance this was,and I am a little sad to see the these sexy Russians go but,I have a feeling that maybe in the Future Mz. Taylor may bless us with another. This is so worth your time if you love a good, hot, sexy, sweet and did I say hot, romantic series, Great read.
Her Russian Brute: 50 Loving States, Idaho is a very exciting and sensual interracial romance that earned a rating of five stars. This novel is just as good as the other Russian series by Theodora Taylor. I enjoyed reading all of series and can't wait until the author write another novel. I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading exciting novels with some violence.
I love this series! The sexy, action and suspenseful scenes just pulled me in. I also love revisiting the characters from the previous books....it's like a reunion. Ivan is so damaged and so is Sola but are totally there for each other. I am waiting patiently for Anitra's story...who did she marry? What type of man is he?
I truly thought Ivan was a true bully. It's good to know that it took someone like Sola to turn his empty life around. I love the fairytale effect of Beauty and the Beast. Nice touch! I knew Scott was possessive but not like this. He had such a promising future. Ivan made things happen for Sola and her aunt in the end. I loved it. Your book deserve a perfect ten.
I liked Her Russian Brute I did wish that there was more exploration on the relationship between Ivan and Sola. I would have liked more depth and understanding as to why they felt that they were right for each other. I did like the subtle introduction of another series / spin-off.
I'm really the "50 Loving States" series. I love how the characters from previous books interact with current books. I love how Sola changed recluse Ivan by looking beyond his scars and bringing out the best in him. Excellent read!!!
This concludes the Ruthless Russian series. I thoroughly enjoyed following the Rustanovs and their loves. This one did not disappoint! Ivan realized that it was time to move on with life with Sola. Someone who made him a better man!
I enjoyed the play on Beauty and the Beast with this one. Ivan was such a sweetie once Sola melted his icy heart. I was rooting for these two! As always, I wait for more.
I know Sola was not expecting her own Disney princess fairytale, happy ending, but she got one. And it takes after the movies the Beauty and the Beast.
As Belle we have Sola herself As Beast you have Ivan As Gaston you have Scott As Belle father you have Brian and Eddie
Even though when I was reading this story I was more than excited to read about Ivan and the woman that would bring him down. I was shocked when you find out the story of how he ended up with a scar and how he ended up being the person that he is. I truly feel for him and everything he been through, but I will NEVER forget the way Boris wife Sirena put him in his place. Lol that scene in Boris and Sirena book was hilarious and made me want to know more about Ivan.
It seems like every Rustanov males needs that love, caring, and healing affection, so that they can stop being Big fat jerks to everyone.
This story very much reminds me of the Movie Beauty and the Beast, just a more dirtier and funnier, and a lot more killing. I feel like people like Scott needs their own island where they cannot escape. I cannot believe the way he thinks and treats Sola. He was raise really wrong and backwards, and have no right to think that way about a Sola or any female in general. He doesn’t cheat on her but does something even more worse, and Sola best friend was right he doesn’t deserve her.
There were so many hilarious scenes, I esp. love the ones when she argues with Ivan, I love how she such a strong character. She’s not going to allow anyone to walk on her, and I think that Ivan also loves this about her. Things are not always what they seem.
Also the village that has the castle that Ivan is living in, I feel like they are shapeshifters. I hope I can read more about it, and find out more about it.
