Rate this book

Detective Steven Quaid is ready for the new challenges as Anchorage’s top detective, but not until he marries the woman of his dreams on New Year’s Eve. Determined to give Sarah the wilderness honeymoon she desires, he turns his grandfather’s cabin into the perfect honeymoon retreat.
After the final details are complete, Steven treks into the mountains to hunt.

On his return to the cottage, instead of Sarah, he is greeted by several police officers and a bloody crime scene. Accusations fly, and Stephen flees into the wilderness, his heart racing and thoughts etching into his soul.

The wilderness is unforgiving, but Steven faces it head on: Caught between a massive grizzly and a black bear in a deadly tug of war, he is barely saved from death’s door by the fortuitous appearance of his uncle. Despite surviving multiple injuries, Steven continues his investigation as he recovers, but answers don’t come quick or easy.

Having enlisted the aid of his number one suspect, Steven faces a struggle that has become more than personal…This one just may cost him his heart.

At one time Alaska called to me and I answered. I learned to sleep under the midnight sun, survive in below zero temperatures, and hike the Mountain Ranges. I've traveled from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, and the memories are some of my most valued. The wonders, mysteries, and incredible beauty that is Alaska has never left me and thus now influence my writing.
Despite my adventurous spirit, I achieved my educational goals, married, and I have two wonderful sons. Writing is now my focus, my newest adventure!

In this, the third book in the Quaid series, Renee continues to deliver the goods. Detective Steven Quaid and his now-fiancee Sarah Palmer are still trying to get past all of the dangers that dogged them in the first two books, but danger isn't going to give them any rest just yet. They still have a long way to go and more bad guys to take out before they can maybe... just maybe... find their happy-ever-after ending.

Trouble is, no one is quite sure who the bad guys ARE. However, Quaid does know this for sure: he didn't kill those two young women, and he sure as hell didn't kill Sarah, no matter how badly the evidence is stacked against him. In fact, he is convinced in his heart of hearts that she's still alive. He just has to find here, no matter where she is, and who has taken her. On the run in an unforgiving frigid environment, where he's being chased by some of the best Alaskan trackers, confronted by a couple hungry bears, and tormented with worry, the question is: can he find her before the police find him?

This book has lots of fast-moving action, and plenty of surprising twists. Sarah has become much more resourceful, and somewhat of a bad-ass in this book. (Good thing, too, because Ms. Renee sure does like to challenge her characters!)

If you haven't read any of the books in this series, yet, what are you waiting for? You'll love 'em.

“The howling of a wolf brought him full circle.”

A baby dead, broken relationships, a marriage in Paris, jealousy and obsession, a half-breed law-enforcement officer hunted by people he thought knew him, accused of killing women, one of them he dearly loved; this is not the Twilight Zone but Murder & Obsession, the third book in the Alaskan Trilogy by Yolanda Renèe.

Disappearance, kidnapping, torture, and the undeniable obsession to own a lady that does not want him, the antagonist, Scott Chase, will use any means necessary not to lose that which he thinks belongs to him. He is a master of plotting.

However, he forgets the psychic sense in Sarah and her undying love for Steven Quaid. These two protagonists, Sarah, and Quaid, will keep you hoping that somehow, some way they can live out their small drops of eternal love.

Murder & Obsession is the third book in the trilogy by Yolanda Renèe. To say that I enjoyed learning about a region of the United States I have never visited is an understatement. The Alaskan wilderness called to me. Its loneliness spoke of peace that can only be found in being alone with nature.

Renèe’s scenic descriptions, as well as her narrative manner, soaked me once again into her story. Mesmerized, I kept wondering what would happen next.

The story is well crafted and well written as is the entire trilogy.

This substantiates my belief that an excellent well-crafted story gives you the desire to read more of an author’s works. So, I sincerely hope, Renèe does not stop with this trilogy but gives us more exciting novels to read in the future.

This is the third book in a series. You could read it on it's own, but to understand all the relationships that are involved you need to have read at least the first one.

Detective Steven Quaid is at his cabin in the wilds of Alaska preparing it for his honeymoon and trying to decide on his working future. His fiancée is in the city for business and organising their wedding. When he returns from a hunting trip he finds himself suspected of murder. He has to run to clear himself, but the Alaskan wilds are a dangerous place to be on the run. The cold or the animals could prove fatal.
Sarah Palmer was enjoying the happiest day of her life until she realised how much danger she and Steven were in. Abducted by someone who is obsessed with her, she knows this could be a very dangerous situation for herself and her loved ones.

This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through. The "bad guys" will stop at nothing to get what they want. Multiple murders just to set the scene. When the person who is obsessed with Sarah has an unlimited amount of money to buy those who are willing to do his wishes, it makes it very hard for the authorities to trace what is happening. The hunt to find Sarah is all Steven thinks about, but he has to survive to do it. Sarah has to battle the physical and mental torture while she waits for rescue.
This is a book you will find impossible to put down. I loved it.

Detective Steven Quaid wants to give his fiancee, Sarah the Alaskan honeymoon she has longed for at his grandfather's mountain cabin. He returns one October day from hunting and finds several police officers at the cabin. Plus a horrifying crime scene that tears his heart from his chest. Steven flees into the wilderness when he's accused of killing Sarah. Between the bears and the harsh elements, Steven barely survives to start his own investigation. With the help of friends who believe in him, they peel back the layers of the crime to discover something even more frightening. Will he be able to find out what happened to Sarah or will the bears be the least of his worries as he digs deeper into this nightmare?

This third installment of the Detective Quaid Mysteries blew me away. The story is intense and the investigation goes deep. The reader is taken to amazing settings on this journey, and I felt as though I was there. Great details that are genuinely both beautiful and harsh. The characters match this rugged and lovely environment, and even with the big cast, each individual stands out in their own way. I really loved Sarah in this book, more so than the previous two. She still has her compassionate and mystical nature, but she's so much stronger now. Truly admirable. Steven is equal to her strength, pushing through what sometimes seems impossible. The author does love to torture her characters! Be prepared for a fierce adventure that will make you feel like you've had a run-in with a bear. And it will leave you wanting more.

Don't we all love a fast-paced murder mystery? Here author Yolanda Renee delivers the goods. I have read the first two books in the Quaid series, and here Renee presents the third and continues to deliver with bucketfuls of suspense and intrigue. The two main characters, Detective Steven Quaid and his fiancee, artist Sarah Palmer continue to dodge danger...relentlessly. All they want is a happily-ever-after to their love, but complications in the form of bad guys just keep cropping up. They have to deal with them if they ever want to settle happily into wedded bliss.

The story starts on the run, with Steven implicated in two brutal murders of young women and Sarah. He knows he's innocent, but makes a decision to run when he realises the evidence doesn't look good. His priority is to find Sarah, wherever she is. This will be impossible if he's locked up.

His escape takes him into the freezing Alaskan wilderness. He is ill prepared, but knows the environment well. Despite those hot on his trail, and the hungry predators, his one and only desire is to find Sarah. She needs him. He cannot let her down.

Readers who yearn for a novel that delivers superb plot and characters will love Murder & Obsession by Yolanda Renee. I hesitate to go into detail for fear of saying too much and giving away too much of the plot dynamics. Every chapter is chock full of intrigue and a deepening inspection into the heart and soul of each character. The depth of love between Sarah and Detective Steven Quaid sizzles. You know and fear there is nothing these two lovers won't do for each other - nothing. I haven't read the first two novels in this series; however, this did not impact my appreciation of book 3 (except for understanding of the Valentine killings). Another aspect I love about Murder and Obsession is Yolanda's gift in putting the reader into the scene; vivid descriptions of the physical scene, the terror in the mind of the characters, their desperate struggles is so well written - well, I feel like I know Alaska's wild and unforgiving nature, and know these characters on a personal basis. And that's what every hopes to experience. Well done, Yolanda.

I wish I could give 1/2 star ratings because I'd pump it to 4-1/2 stars. Ms. Renee's Murder & Obsession is the finest to date of her Detective Quaid mysteries. The writing's stellar, the story intriguing and suspenseful and there's a fantastically realized bear attack that rivals "The Revenant." Also for the majority of the book, Renee keeps her two protagonists apart. Now, I'm sure most readers love Stephen and Sarah's relationship. But I enjoyed them more on their own. But, sure enough, as soon as they get together near the end, the crazy stand-offishness and non-communication fires up right again! (Hence my 1/2 star shy of 5). Never have I read two characters who definitely should not be involved with one another before. But I'm sure I'm in the minority. Besides that I'd highly recommend this series to lovers of romantic suspense thrillers/mysteries.
