Prior to his career in television, Hanssen worked as a photojournalist, taking him around the world on news assignments. Winter 1991-92 he participated on an Antarctic expedition, and in 1994 on a climbing expedition to Mount Everest.
Eystein Hanssen is educated in film- and television, media studies, information technology and holds a Master of Business Administration. He lives in Oslo, Norway with his wife, two boys and a dog.
