Sheriff Jed Tyler’s tenuous marriage is being tested. His affair last winter with the stunning and provocative Laura Kinkaid has left his marriage in shambles—he, struggling to regain his wife’s trust and confidence, Jenny seemingly unable to forgive and forget.

As the couple’s relationship continues to deteriorate and it seems things can’t get any worse, Tyler suddenly finds himself embroiled in the brutal murder of a young woman who works at the newly-acquired real estate company of Samantha Jessup—the tough-minded, take-no-prisoners business woman who grew up the hard way.

In the midst of Tyler’s investigation, he is hit with yet another bombshell when he accidentally runs into Laura Kinkaid one chilly autumn day. The secret that he learns will turn his world upside down.

In the meantime, Jenny Tyler gets some surprises of her own when the man she had so passionately loved long ago, the man she had committed her life to, the man who had then mysteriously vanished from her life—Tripp Castleberry—suddenly reappears at her doorstep, declaring his steadfast love for her and stirring emotions that lay buried in her heart. Torn between her commitment to a failing marriage and her renewed feelings for her old love, her first love, Jenny spirals toward despair and destruction.

When a second woman is found murdered—her body also mutilated almost beyond recognition—the terror-stricken people of Blacklick Valley wonder which of them might be the psychotic madman’s next victim.

Will Tyler learn the identity of the serial killer that threatens Blacklick Valley and uncover the dark secret that drives his insanity?

Will Jenny Tyler succumb to the obsessive passion of the mysterious and elusive Tripp Castleberry and her own secret longings?

Will Laura Kinkaid’s secret destroy the Tyler marriage or bring resolution?

New Release NIGHTMARE
I'm pleased to announce that my new release NIGHTMARE, Book 5 in The Blacklick Valley Mystery Series, is now available in print and eBook on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Nightmare-Blac...

I hope you will check out NIGHTMARE as the final webs of mystery are untangled and for the exciting and shocking conclusion of The Blacklick Valley Mysteries. Love to have you give it a read and leave your comments in a review on Goodreads and Amazon. It's your interest and opinions that keep us writers inspired to keep on writing!

Here's a little taste of the Prologue (slightly revised to avoid spoilers):

"The rain moved in from the west, over the hazy, steel-blue mountains and across the verdant valleys below like a sheer gossamer veil as fine as any Laotian silk. It moved slowly, steadily, forward—at first, silent as a Pharaoh’s tomb, then with the faintest whisper of sound. On it came as if by some invisible force, and with it came the change of light that cast the landscape in luminous green, almost as if the terrain itself projected some ethereal light from within. Then the whisper turned to a stirring and the stirring to a thrum, and jagged bolts of lightning zigzagged across the darkening sky, cutting with razor-sharpness through the swelling thunderheads on the charcoal horizon.
An evening thunderstorm in late April was not uncommon to the inhabitants of Blacklick Valley, and the man who hunched over the litter-strewn desk in the study of the neat, two-story colonial on Fennimore Street barely took notice of the oncoming storm. The patter of fat raindrops against window glass was little more than white noise, a mere distraction.
He rested his head in his hands, his splayed fingers slicing through a swathe of unkempt hair now receding from a high forehead. He sat alone, unmoving, his vacuous eyes staring at nothing but the desk’s wood-grained surface. In front of him rested a half-empty glass of Jack Daniels, the amber contents long ago grown warm and diluted, its filmy surface mirroring the overhead light in distorted reflection.
He was deep in thought. But he was not at peace. His mind tumbled with unformed thoughts like flickering scenes from a fast-forwarded film. An image of (XXXXX’s) face once again flitted across the canvas of his mind.
“Damn it!” he mumbled aloud, his words indistinguishable, slurred as they were by agitation and alcohol. “Why the hell couldn’t you have done it right? Why didn’t you stick to the plan? Stupid…! Should have taken care of it myself from the beginning.” He continued his angered and disparaging litany for some minutes, senselessly berating (someone) who was long dead and gone.
It wasn’t the first time.
Again, he ran trembling fingers back through his thinning hair, then rubbed at his burning, blood-shot eyes as his mind skipped back in time to that September day now over a year and a half ago when he’d run into (his former friend) on a busy street in downtown Pittsburgh.
He had (suggested they have coffee and his friend had) accepted—more from curiosity than interest. And thus, began the clandestine conversations over the next weeks and months that led them down a path of evil intent, each motivated by greed, avarice, and malicious vindictiveness….
(They) met as frequently as possible between the months of September and December, devising a plan, developing a scheme where they could kill two birds with one stone, as they often laughed about. By December they were ready to put their plan into action. No one would ever suspect their connection to one another nor the connection between (their victims’) demise—just another psychotic serial killer, choosing his victims at random.
Now, (he) picked up his lukewarm drink and took a sip, thinking that it all could have worked out so splendidly. Could have—if (his friend) hadn’t been so stupid. Had stuck to the plan. But, no. No! Did nothing but get … killed.
Thank God, he’d gotten away with his own part i

This is the 4th in this terrific series featuring Jed Tyler, Sheriff, and all the residents of Blacklick Valley. While perfectly alright to be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend that these books be read in order. Each book seems better than the last.

Blacklick Valley has a serial killer.. one who seems to target the women real estate agents. He is a brutal killer, first horrifically torturing them, then dumping their bodies where they can be easily found. Needless to say there's lots of tension among the residents. Who in their tight-knit community is a monster in disguise?

On a personal level, Jed and his wife Jenny are having major problems. Jed previously had an affair with Laura Kincaid and Jenny just can't seem to let it go. Forgiving is one thing ... forgetting is something else. When Jed accidentally runs into Laura, it's very evident that she is pregnant and he knows it is his child.

Meanwhile, Tripp Castleberry shows up in town, tall, dark and handsome .... and he's come for Jenny. They were practically engaged in college, when he up and left. Now after several years, he shows up declaring his love and wants her back in his life.

But who exactly is Tripp? Is Jenny the only reason he's back? And what does he know about the drugs that keep appearing in their town?

This is a terrific mystery...every time I thought I had it figured out, the author pointed me in a new direction. It is certainly a page-turner. I loved the characters and suffered with them during their trial of fire. With Jed having to juggle multiple problems all at once, there's not a boring moment.

Many thanks to the author who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Another Winner by a Great Writer

I can’t say how much I was looking forward to Deadly Secrets. I had already read the first three novels in the Blacklick Valley series and was anxious to see what was next for Jed. Would he still be emotionally conflicted? And Laura? I left the last book feeling terribly sad for her. I really wanted her to be happy. But then, there’s Jenny and Timmy? How are these dilemmas to be resolved? My heart was pulled in many directions at once.

You see, when Cummins writes, you just don’t get a murder mystery. You get a story with real lives, with real people who live lives outside of murder, lives away from killings and kidnappings. You get tales of love won and lost, tales of devastation and pain, of happiness and joy, of misery and grief. You get tales about tormented and confused souls who live lives of desire riddled with guilt, of fulfilment raddled with heartache, as they seek resolution to the age-old conflict between the mind and the heart.

Donna Cummins, I’m sure, is a sweet and lovely woman but she has a dark and fiendish imagination. In Deadly Secrets she creates a vile and vicious villain whose inhuman torturing of his victims is almost enough to shock the reader from the pages. Yes, there’s another story here, far from the normal lives of normal people. There is a story of brutal kidnappings and murders by a psychotic serial killer who tests Sheriff Jed Tyler’s skills to the limit as he tries frantically to identify the killer in time to save yet a third victim

But what I had almost forgotten, and was reminded ‘in spades’ in the early pages, is that Cummins is more then a writer. She is an artist who paints the most glorious scenes using words instead of oils. She paints for all of the senses instead of just the eye. Every page is filled with amazing colours, bright or sombre, filled with sweet murmurings of gentle winds in the ever-moving trees or the heavy pounding of storm and rain. Donna sees and observes so much, from the plants and shrubs whose names she knows as well as her own, to the ever-changing patterns in the atmosphere, from blizzards and storms to the soft soughing of a breeze. Nature is Donna’s great love, always featured in her books as a silent but ever-present character, not quite influencing events but always involved.

You can buy any of Cummins’s books with total confidence that you will be entertained with superb writing and a great story. You will be horrified, brought to tears, made to smile, left with a lump in your throat… Hey! Don’t take my word for it. Buy Deadly Secrets and discover these delights for yourself. A wonderful book!

What do I think of this book?. . Excellent, superbly written, full of intrigue, suspense, a dash of romance and everything in between. This is my first book in this series and I absolutely loved it from Page 1 to completion. I read this nonstop today because it was a wonderful read.

It is very seldom and I mean very seldom, that I do not have a pretty good idea who our mystery person or persons will turn out to be, but Donna Cummins had me stumped. I had no idea!

All the characters and their storylines in this book are wonderful. We have a sheriff with his wife and step son; an independent, as well as beautiful and smart real estate/business mogul, with a past she would rather forget; a wealthy widow with secrets of her own; a lost love coming back to claim his only love; a couple ready for a life of retirement selling their business and preparing to enjoy the tropical island life; as well as two young women kidnapped and murdered and a third possibly to join them, all together in nearby towns, in one book and this is not all! How is that for an amazing book?!

I love a good mystery and I would give Deadly Secrets, 10 stars if possible. Enjoy!!

A praise for an amazing writer--An amazing writer knows how to craft a story that is so well written that everyone can picture it in their mind as if they're watching a movie. I'd have to say that Cummins is the author that does it best for me! I can see the characters she created, hear their voices, see the way they carry themselves, what they wear, their personalities and what they're doing when she's not even talking about them. I am so totally engrossed in the imaginary world that she has created that I feel as though I live there...but then again, I don't live too far from the real Blacklick! :)

I am so ready for a book 5!

Just a note: you do need to read her books in order to get the whole experience as they are a continuation. Rain of Terror, A Reason to Kill, Anguish and then this is book #4. You won't be sorry.

This is another outstanding book from a great writer - Donna Cummins. I had read her 3 previous books in the Blacklick Valley series. When I found out Donna was coming out with Deadly Secrets, I expected another of her wonderful mysteries. Donna did not disappoint and produced another book which deserves a 5 star rating. She has a very wonderful and descriptive writing style which lets me visualize the scenes she is describing. She is also a wonderful writer and story teller who creates a mystery that I don't want to stop reading. I am glad that I had the pleasure of reading all 4 of Donna's books in the Blacklick Vallley Series.

This series. Is amazing. Twists and turns within the mystery as well as within the relationships of the people within the Blacklick Valley. I just want this series to continue so that I don't feel as if my friends are leaving me. Must read!!!

Good reading

This series started great, then the excessive descriptions and soap opera type plots bugged me. You may enjoy this book more if that is your genre.
