If a stalker doesn’t kill them, the heat between them might.

Christopher Vincent is desperate enough for a job that he accepts an offer to entertain as a psychic in a friend’s nightclub. Jackson Whitman, one of the club’s co-owners, is less than thrilled by the new act. To him, psychics are ridiculous and a liability. But when they come face-to-face, attraction flares to life between them.

Okay so another foray into the Dreamspun Desires series for me. This one was meh. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it either. I do enjoy the buildup of the relationship between Chris & Jack. I liked the premise of the story. I had a problem with figuring out who said what some times, it was no break in pov partners. That bothered me enough to not be happy with the end result. Or I should say the abrupt end result. It was really no buildup for me as far as the plot goes. I would have really loved to see bigger excursions, and more then the physical side for Chris & Jack. Right now their entire relationship is physical, and I don't know if its believable seeing as they hadn't spoken in 5 years after a kiss. Chris seems to harbor some feelings of resentment towards Jack for treating him like a second class citizen, but it took no time for them to dive in bed together? Makes no sense to me really,

This was my first book by this author, and I think I'm willing to give her a second try. This didn't work for me. It's kinda low angst so that might appeal to readers, and I liked the idea surrounding the occult elements in the story. I never did figure out why not go back to Chris's mother for help. I know she is recovering, but seeing as she is the reason for starting this mess I think a little help was needed. I didn't see any person of Dooley in this book, that did seem like filler information. I mean he didn't add or take away to the story, but was kinda there for the most part. 3 stars might be generous for me, but I don't think I can recommend this either.

Nice, easy escape complete with psychics

Extrasensual Perception was a good, lighter book that provided a lively escape for me this week. The psychic element wove perfectly into the story, foreshadowing the excitement but also injecting some mystery as the characters tried to uncover the person stalking and threatening them.

Both the main and secondary characters were interesting and likable. Jack and Chris had distinct personalities and the reader gets a brief, but decent background on them and their families. There wasn’t a lot of growth in this book, and though that that fit with the generally lighter feel in the book, it kept me from getting swept away by their story. I did like the way the romance steadily grew between Chris and Jack. There wasn’t instalove and it followed a fairly natural progression that resulting in some nice heat. I also found Jack’s skepticism about Chris’s abilities provided an interesting conflict that created some tension between the two and offered some depth and growth opportunities for the characters. The writing and dialogue reinforced the tone of Extrasensual Perception- steady, solid, and casual. The conflicts kept me engaged with satisfying and well developed resolutions. I think this had the bones to be a really intriguing story if it was longer and there was time for more depth and development to the characters and relationships. However, it also didn’t feel half-baked, so I wasn’t left bored or frustrated either. The narrator was new to me but he worked well with the book, keeping an even keeled rhythm with good diction. In a word, I’d characterize the book and performance as low-key.

While I was listening to this audiobook, I was reading a book that wore out my emotions so this proved to be a great counterbalance and palate cleanser. Overall, this was an enjoyable easy listen with just enough action and mystery to keep things interesting. If you’re in need of a break from heavy angst, I think this would be a good fit.

This is my first book of this author, and I'm not disappointed.
I liked the writing style and the story is match my mood right now.
Second chance love story is a hit and miss for me, but this one I approved.
Jack and Chris were made for each other apparently. Five years ago, it didn't work out for them. But Chris has a psychic mother. That alone explained why did she sent Chris into a danger in a first place.
The growing attractions between Jack and Chris were kind of fast, but not without any doubt from both of them. I liked this. It was fast but didn't feel fast, at least for me. I'm just a sucker for a fast growing relationship, so it could minimize my headache.
I liked the mystery of Chris sights, and how they'd cope with the problems.
There's a twist, but the couple were strong together.
Looking forward to read more of this author in the future.

Have I told you that I adore the Dreamspun Desire series? I am sure you are sick of hearing me say that but whatever. I love these damn books. They are my happy place and I can’t get enough of them.

This was another fun installment with a twist of the paranormal given that Chris and his mother both have psychic abilities.

When we meet Chris and his mother aka Madam Melina, who is on the mend from a recent stroke and Chris is taking care of her. When his mom gets an ominous vision of his best friend Angie, she asks Chris to deliver the message to her and the only place Chris can find her is at her new club, Carnival W. Of course, Chris doesn’t want to run into Angie’s older brother and the keeper of a hot one time kiss that is seared into Chris’ memory, Jackson Whitman but he does run the new club with Angie and poor Chris is out of luck.

I love that Jack and Chris have a semi past and all that we know is they’ve kissed, they both thoroughly enjoyed the kiss but they both also rub one another the wrong way. When Chris takes a job at the club as its resident psychic, the UST between these two gets turned way up and way fast. Chris thinks Jack is hot, too hot for his own stuck up, proper image presenting good and Jack thinks Chris is sex on a stick but can’t stand that he “scamming his customers.” Ugh. These two.

I love that we get both Chris and Jack’s POV in this one. We get Chris from the beginning with his ominous dream and then we get his moms prediction for Angie that kinda seem related. We get Jack and his amazing ability to be an ass but it’s nice that we get inside his head to know what’s up and where he is coming from. Add in a third POV of some creeper who is stalking Angie and Chris and who and this story gets hella fun.

I had so much fun reading this on a Sunday where I needed to smile. The push and pull between Chris and Jack was pure joy to read and I truly adored how they fell in love with one another. The love doesn’t come all that quickly as Jack needs to trust in Chris’ psychic ability and Chris needs to trust that Jack wants him regardless of the Whitman image Jack has been trying to uphold for years.

The addition of Connor McCord was interesting but I wanted to know more about him being a childhood friend of Jack’s and the way he was with Angie kept me wondering just which of the Whitman siblings he really wanted to experiment with.

The mystery of who was stalking Angie and Jack was a tad over the top but it led to a whole bunch of fun and chances for the men to be protective over one another. I would say it was unbelievable that they would get it on the way they did under the circumstances that were present but I am married and know that a dude could be have serious injuries and if he could get it up, he could get it on so I was totes okay with those moments. Also, sex in stressful situations like Chris and Jack were in along with the adrenaline, yeah I can see it happened and plus, it was hot so… again, totes okay with it.

I have to say I loved the idea of Carnival W being a grown up version of a traditional carnival. It would be a blast to go to and being attached to a hotel makes it that much easier to get home after a few drinks and games.

But anyway.

This was a fun, fluffy and sexy story about two men who needed to put everything else aside and just focus on what’s in front of them to find love. Oh, and it’s totally a story about trusting your gut, your dreams and listening to your psychic mother.

Extrasensual Perception was like a bowl of soup on a cold day — comforting and extremely satisfying. Rayna Vause’s talent for writing is obvious as I found myself totally engrossed in the story. Not only does Vause increase the level of danger that the characters are in, but also the amount of sexual tension between Chris and Jack goes from cool to sizzling!

Vause has cleverly combined the setting of her story with the use of Chris’ psychic abilities. Extrasensual Perception takes place in an “ordinary” contemporary world, but the patrons of Carnival W are given the opportunity to leave their “normal” at the door of the club and enjoy a unique and magical experience. This is also what Vause asks her reader to do: suspend their disbelief and mistrust and just savor her story. I certainly did this, not even questioning the fact that I do not usually acknowledge the existence of psychics and would never visit one, but I liked Chris and had faith in him.

Vause is very clever in the way that she develops the suspense in Extrasensual Perception and even when the identity of the perpetrator is revealed, the events that follow are gripping enough to encourage the reader to the end. It is important that though both Jack and Angie are the targets, Chris becomes involved because of his premonitions and psychic sense. I think he is the character I became most attached to and I was then concerned for his safety.

I'm a sucker for a paranormal story, so I stayed with this longer than I should have.

The story starts off with some promise (despite the silly title), and I like the introduction of Jake. Some nice intrigue here, good, good, but oh no, ill thought book snatches away all promise for something juicy. Chris has powers but hasn't told anyone except his mom, yet he makes a business out of them quickly enough. There's no wrestling with it after, either. Nope, Chris has his shtick down. Fine. Sort of. Not really but moving on.

Chris' powers? The man is practically a psychic god. He can read people by touch. Imagine how that would affect law enforcement let alone businesses. The influence and money Chris could have is extraordinary, and yet he works in a nightclub carnival. Nope, not going to work as a lobbyist for LGBT rights, not going to study to work as a therapist, not going to work with police doing any number of super useful things... nope.

And part of the issue is that Chris' powers are rather ill defined. He gets premonitions by dreams, waking visions, spidey sense whenever the big bad is around (my inner Church Lady is purse lipped screaming How Convenient!), and he can read people by touch. Are his premonitions only about him or people he knows? Could these be about strangers or just strangers who will be in upcoming plot events? These are basically 'author wants Chris to know or angst over something' powers. They're useful/not useful, powerful/not toooo powerful.

And... what's this about Connor? Isn't that Jake's first kiss? Or are there two characters named Connor because this is dropped in and never once discussed. The hell?! Chris never has a 'sooo, you two kissed' moment. Doesn't ask Jake how their friendship/maybe relationship developed or why it didn't, how they're friends now, nothing. And Connor seems to have a thing for Angie? That's just fucking creepy. And how did Connor and Jake become friends? It's not impossible for a super rich kid who grows up to inherent his father's business be friends with a kid who will grow up to be a cop, much more on the blue collar scale of economics, but there is an economic disparity that should be addressed. It's such an odd story thread that doesn't make any sense. And seriously? Angie romance hints? Gross, dude.

Kyle was also another detraction from the story. We don't need his pov, but okay, it's there. Mostly he's a one dimensional rage ball who pulls off some extremely unlikely stunts.

If this were draft three of ten, I would have probably enjoyed it.

Note: This audiobook was provided to me through Hearts on Fire Reviews in exchange for an impartial review.

Another fine story in the Dreamspun Desires series featuring old MF tropes. This one has a psychic who falls in love with his boss while at the same time trying to keep harm from coming to the boss’s sister who seems to be the target of a stalker.

Naturally, the boss doesn’t really believe in psychics and takes some convincing before he does. That’s not to say he doesn’t like the psychic himself though.

When Chris goes to see his friend Angelina to deliver a cryptic message from Chris’s mother, a known psychic, he’s surprised when he’s offered a job at her new nightclub. His mom is a well-known psychic, but she’s disabled, and no one was supposed to know he could also see the future. When Angelina finds out, she quickly hires him as the perfect addition to her new nightclub, named Carnival.

In the meantime, her skeptical brother, Jack, spends a lot of time eyeing up the psychic. And why not? He’s beautiful eye candy. It’s not until he finds out that Chris has been right all along that he takes his psychic ability more seriously, and by then both Chris and Angelina have been endangered.

A sweet love story, with a man for Angelina, and Jack for Chris, this hits both sides of the romance coin. Rayna Vause is a new author to me, and I liked this story—I do love these sappy stories—and both the plot and the writing were good. Just long enough with just enough mystery and action to make it interesting. Add in John Solo’s very good narration, and I had a hard time putting it down long enough to communicate with my family. (They might not have been happy, but I was!) A super way to spend the day walking, taking a car ride, or simply lying on the beach, I recommend this audiobook to lovers of these sweet old-time romances.

Narration Rating 5 Stars ~

Christopher Vincent is taking care of his psychic mother, who recently suffered a career ending stroke. He needs a job, he needs an outlet, and he needs to not be the same psychic his mother is. His best friend is opening a new club. She wants Chris to be the main attraction and read minds for the club’s patrons. Her brother, Jack, is not only a skeptic, he has a past with Christopher. One, or all three, of them is being stalked. The stalker keeps getting closer and closer to them, with ever more dangerous results. In the middle of it all, Jack and Chris feel the tugs of the old attractions coming forward again.

John Solo narrates this book in the Dreamspun Desires series, a lovely addition to the Dreamspinner family. Solo is one of their better narrators. The action of the book is part thriller, part mystery, and part romance. Solo gives each one of those things a more than competent narration. While these books are supposed to be light escapes, and a change of pace from the usual romance, this story is surprisingly good, made even better by the narrator’s ability to portray the loving relationships between Christopher and his mother, and Christopher and his best friend. Then we get the intense speed of the stalker scenes—the suspense of what will happen and who, if anyone, suffers the consequences of the action.

Finally, we get the growing relationship between Christopher and Jack. We also get a host of side characters who all have their own voices. Each one of them is different and fully acted. This narration is wonderful and rich. It is a great addition to the Dreamspun Desires series, and could get a series of its own with a reluctant psychic and skeptical businessman as partners.

Buy the book for the story—which is great fun—enjoy the fun narration, and find a new reason to look forward to these Dreamspun books.

Christopher Vincent has tried his best to avoid drawing attention to his psychic abilities. That's more of his mother's thing, and he'd like to try to live a normal life. But when a bit of desperation leads him to accept a job as a psychic at his friend's club, it looks like he may have no choice. And then there's the issue of his friend's brother, Jack. Chris can't keep his eyes off the man, and they even had a brief encounter years ago, but they're from two different worlds. Which is made even more apparent by Jack's clear disapproval of Chris's work in the club. But when a mysterious stranger begins to target the three of them, they may all have to rely on Chris's abilities even more than any of them expected. And it just might be what's needed for Chris to break down the wall between him and Jack once and for all.

I would describe this as a light and easy read, despite the fact that there's a very dark character hanging out on the periphery for most of the book. There are some definite twists and turns that I didn't expect while still keeping many of the elements one might expect from a romantic thriller. Enjoyable, entertaining, and recommended.

We first meet Christopher Vincent as he's having a prescient nightmare - someone is being shot and falls into water, then gets tangled in a net and apparently drowns, someone we assume to be Chris himself.

As does Chris.

I was immediately riveted to the pages. What a strong opening, what a way to capture the reader's attention from the start. Well done.

Chris is taking care of his mother after she had a stroke, but money is running out, and he's having to close up her psychic reading business. Yes, Chris' mother has visions too, and she does readings as well.

Chris' friend Angelica is opening a new club and offers him a job to perform readings for club guest. Reluctant, Chris agrees since he needs the money. And also because his mother has a vision that pertains to Angelica and insists that he go see her, which leads to the job offer.

Angelica's brother, Jack Whitman, co-owner of the club and a businessman, is extremely skeptical of Chris' abilities and doesn't believe in this "hocus-pocus".

But then they meet (again) and sparks fly.

This is an action-packed, fast-paced story, with a good amount of steam, a lovely romance, and a whodunit. I was glued to the pages until the very end, unable to put this down for any length of time, until I had finished it. There is someone watching the club, someone plotting evil deeds.

I adored both MCs - they were very different in personalities, but meshed so well together, and I fully believed their romance. Of course, this book is OTT as expected, but I think that's part of the charm the Dreamspun Desires titles bring to the table.

The Whodunit was fairly easy to figure out for me, though possibly not for every reader, but I don't necessarily think that the reader wasn't supposed to know ahead of time. The characters obviously didn't, because they labored under a false assumption, and while I don't truly believe that Jack would be so careless as to not at least inquire about the status of this particular person, I assumed that he was a little preoccupied with keeping his sister and Chris safe.

Chris has visions along the way, but they're either not completely clear or come to him right before something happens, and he feels guilty that he's not able to accurately predict when something will happen or prevent bad things from happening.

I liked that Jack and Chris weren't strangers, and we get a believable back story explaining why their strong attraction took so long to come to fruition. I wouldn't classify this as a second-chance-at-love romance, but as one that happens when it's supposed to happen, when both of the men are in a position to actually explore the feelings between them. Even if the romance develops quickly, it was believable because the attraction had been there from the time they first met.

This was an excellent read, and a perfect addition to this series. My first book by this author was a resounding success. Well done!

Different from the previous books in the ‘Dreamspun Desires’ series, there is a strong psychic element in this story – pretty much exactly what the title promises. I was a little surprised by that, but in the end, it fit the storyline and I was “warned”, so I’m not going to complain. More importantly, it is a great “second chance at love” tale about two men who change from somewhat hostile to very much in love. And to top it all off they face a mystery - think creepy encounters, stalker, threats, and deadly attacks. As a result, there is a lot going on in this action-packed novel, and I’d suggest you get ready to read it in one sitting because it definitely is not easy to put this one down once you start.

Chris, after losing his job and having to take care of his psychic mother after she had a stroke, is just desperate enough for a job to accept the slightly crazy offer his friend, Angelica, makes him. She needs a psychic for her new club, he can play that role and needs the money, so they strike a deal. There are only a few problems with this: Chris really is a psychic and has been having visions around water, his mother believes Angelica is in real danger – and water is involved, and Angelica’s brother, Jack, is adamantly opposed to having a pretend-psychic in the club he owns with her. Chris has got his work cut out for him!

Jack does not believe in psychics. He can’t believe his sister hired one without telling him, and he is determined to prove the man is a charlatan so he can get rid of him. They may have met briefly about five years before, but Jack is not going to accept a fraud ruining his company’s image. But his sister, who is in charge of the club part of their joint hotel/club venture, refuses to fire Chris. Then Chris manages to “pass” all the tests Jack can come up with, the old attraction comes back to life, and Jack begins to change his mind.

What makes them work together is the threat Chris’s mother has sensed and Chris has nightmares about. As the violence escalates, Chris and Jack become closer, and the increasing danger only makes them realize how well suited they are not only to work together, but to be partners in every sense of the word. If, that is, they can survive the attacks and the mayhem caused by a homicidal maniac who gets crazier by the day.

If you like your romance with a dose of danger and suspense, if you think two men who connected years ago but lost sight of each other deserve a second chance at love, and if you’re looking for an action-packed, suspenseful read with an intriguing mystery at its heart, then you will probably like this novel.

Wow what an action packed love story that is full of mystery, suspense, and a match making mother with psychic abilities.

Chris is busy taking care of his mom after she has had a stroke. That is not the only thing that has been bothering Chris as of late though, he is worrying over his own vision that has been coming in the form of nightmares. To make matters worse, Chris's mom has had the same vision of water that Chris has been having but she added Angelica to mix.

Chris's mom is adamant that Chris needs to warn Ang in person and this sets course a path that leads Chris once again in Jack's path.

Chris and Hack had about a five minute thing five years prior but it never went anywhere to Chris's dismay and Chris tried to avoid him at all costs since then. The thing is when fate has a plan for you it is hard to change that course of action and fate has put Chris and Jack in each other's pockets for the foreseeable future until whoever it is that is out there that is trying to kill not only Ang but Chris as well.

This time together gives Jack the chance to do exactly what he should have done five years against and that is to make Chris his. The closer they get to who is behind all the attempts on their lives the closer the killer gets to taking away everyone that means something to Jack. If they do not catch the killer and fast then Chris's vision of him dying just may come true and Jack will lose the man he is quickly and completely falling in love with.

This book is a fast paced, action packed, suspenseful read that caught my attention from the very first paragraph. To say that this book started off with a whammy is to say the least. This book is one that grabs your attention and then it does not let it go until the very last sentence. You never know what is going to happen next or who is the bad persons. And the chemistry between Jack and Chris is off the charts H.O.T. I truly thought that this book was amazing and I loved every minute of it. Definitely an amazing read.

I am STUNNED at how much I liked this book – it came out of left field! When we meet Christoper, he is taking care of his mom and trying to avoid to become her messenger. She has psychic powers and wants her son to relay a message to someone in particular. While Christopher does everything in his power to avoid running the “errand,” he finally gives in and his luck seems to turn. He sees his crush from afar, for five years they’ve been avoiding each other, and he tries really hard to stay on track with his mission.

Only, life has other plans. His luck turns around and he’s offered a job using his own unique gifts, which brings him back into contact with the dreamboat that is Jack. Talk about chemistry from the beginning! These two were definitely made for each other – and while they fight it, they simply can’t let the other one go.

While they’re busy reconnecting, they are also being stalked and in dangerous water with someone who has a real vendetta against Jack. The danger, the thrill, the (small) angst – came together perfectly and ended up being a one-sitting read! This is a great read for anyone who loves a man on the loose hunt – don’t worry too much about the unique gifts, it plays well with the story and doesn’t go down the “woo-woo” path. Instead, it’s a great anchor for Jack and Christopher to find their way back together.

With his mother sick, Christopher Vincent must find a job. When his mother sends him to visit Angelica and give her a warning, he finds himself reluctantly accepting a job as a psychic in his friend’s nightclub. The only problem is Jackson Whitman, the co-owner and Angelica’s brother. He does not believe in psychics and does not want the new act. However, when the two come face-to-face, their attraction cannot be denied. But there is no time for acting on that attraction as shadows hold many secrets and there is one person watching the three of them from these shadows. Weird coincidences turn deadly and the two find they must work together if they are to survive.

Chris and Jack did have a past, albeit minor – maybe. When the two came together, there was no denying the spark. When Chris’s abilities came in handy, Jack had to rethink his position. Extrasensual Perception had quite a bit of suspense and some twists to keep the reading intriguing. Once you get to reading, you will not want to put it down as you will need to know what happens next. Great reading is what you will find in the pages of Extrasensual Perception. These Dreamspinner Desires are incredibly amazing to read. Try not to miss a single one.

I am always amazed at the variety of books in the Dreamspun Desire series. While the claim of “troptastic” is absolutely appropriate in each case, the way that manifests differs widely.

In this case, the sense I got from this was of a day time made for TV movie. The characters weren’t terribly well developed and the plot seemed to drag. I wasn’t very invested in the romance as I never felt anything like sincere chemistry nor feelings from either MC for the other.

The psychic power stuff was vaguely interesting and the mystery/danger moved the story along, but overall this just didn’t grab my heart nor my attention very strongly.

John Solo did a fine job narrating this. He didn’t do any interesting accents or anything but he was easy to listen to and added the right emotion when needed to keep the listener engaged.

If you’re a fan of melodrama this might appeal to you more than me, but I can’t really recommend this for more than a light bit of entertainment.

This is a fun action packed story. Chris is just trying to make his mom relax by delivering a message and suddenly everything in his life changes.

Chris is an adaptable person and is willing to do what is necessary to take care of his mom and his friend as well. Jackson seems a bit uptight but he's protective of those he cares about and is willing to do what is needed to keep people safe.

I love the pace of this story and it was so much fun to see them work at figuring it out and get on with life.

A friend lent me her copy of this book and while I enjoyed it, it was just okay for me. I liked Chris especially and his struggle to accept and use his special gifts. I liked his relationship with Angelica and I loved his mother. What I didn't fully buy into was his relationship with Jackson. I couldn't put my finger on the problem, but the two didn't really mesh for me. I found myself looking forward to the scenes where they weren't together more than the ones where they were.

All in all, it was an enjoyable book. Just nothing special.

The good: the premise (so cool!), the characters (very likeable).

The bad: spotty writing style (like POV not deep enough for me to remember who it belongs to) and even spottier editing (word repetitions, some awkward sentences, and OMG at some point someone says "let's get [villain's name]!" BEFORE the big villain reveal convo, I KID YOU NOT).

I'd like to see what else this writer can come up with with a more diligent editor, both on the structure and the sentence level.

New to me author! :) I like finding new authors. Even better, finding out that I enjoyed their book! Yay!
This book kept me guessing. I couldn't wait to find out who the stalker was!
Will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author!

I really enjoyed this addition to the Dreamspun Desires library. It ticked a lot of boxes. There is a good mystery, strong characters and all wrapped around visions and hot men. Rayna Vause is a new author to me, I will be looking out for more of her work.

Pretty well put together if one can believe in psychics which happen to be a favourite trope of mine, even if I don't believe in them ;) (Yes - very contradictory!) RV is a new author for me and I'd be open to trying her non-Dreamspun work.
