An enthralling novel of war, rivalry and intrigue in 1920s Tuscany.A decade after her sister Isobel eloped with a wounded soldier to Italy, Poppy Brookes receives a troubling letter, summoning her to the neglected country estate they now share in beautiful Siena.
Poppy soon finds a disturbing undercurrent in the marriage. The relationship between the sisters is also strained, as Poppy had nursed Kit back to health, and has never quite forgiven Isobel for ensnaring him.
And when Poppy accidentally uncovers a terrible secret, her journey into love becomes eclipsed by a desire for vengeance that threatens to consume them all…
Siena Summer is a thrilling tale full of history and atmosphere, perfect for fans of Rosanna Ley and Lucinda Riley.
Praise for Teresa Crane‘A writer of great skill and vitality’ Sarah Harrison, author of The Flowers of the Field
3.5 stars I heartily recommend this book for a quick summer read. The story is entertaining enough but a bit more work was needed on the characters, especially Kit and Isobel. I felt that the tension that the blurb alludes to was not well developed and almost incidental to the burgeoning romance between Poppy and her suitor. The descriptions of Siena are spot-on and made me want to go back to that medieval city I fell in love with over a decade ago. The ending could have been drawn out a bit more as, in my opinion,it was a bit too hasty but, overall, I liked Siena Summer.
An enthralling novel of war, rivalry and intrigue set against Tuscan Hills. Poppy (8) meets a stranger (Kit) who is recovering from a war injury, they become friends and meet quite often as he draws and convalesces. Her sister (Isobel) meets him and convinces their father to commission him to do a portrait of herself and Poppy, Isobel and Kit become lovers, her father finds out and they choose to elope. Fast Forward a few years and they are settled on a neglected country estate, Isobel is very pregnant and not coping with the pregnancy well. Poppy goes to visit for the summer and lend a hand with Robbie her nephew.
I really liked this book. It had almost every thing I.like in a book. A romance that was what romance should be a novel, slow, not too much of the love scenes, the descriptions of Italy made you want to go.on the next plane. Please read it.for yourself s.
Very enjoyable great for holidays .perhaps would have been more realistic to point out that Isobel addiction would have effected baby which didn't seem to concern anyone
An interesting tale of love and intrigue to entice the reader and keep you reading. Well written, a quick and easy read. Ending was a bit obscure and inconclusive. A romantic story set in a romantic country side.
This is a reasonable airline read. Very possible to read in one session. The lovely location adds interest, with some post Ww1 experience to add atmosphere. The plot is fairly predictable although there is one dramatic part I didn’t pick.
There is a lot of lovely times and romance and mystery to this story. It is also very sad yet you can believe something like that happening. It ended too quickly, and did not really end.
An easy read with a good storyline. I didn't feel there was much depth to the intriguing side of the story and felt the story faded away at the end with unanswered questions which left the ending a bit flat.
This was storytelling at it best.I loved the descriptions of the time spent in Italy Especially Sienna and Florence. My only criticism was a too abrupt ending.
Good story, light summer reading. Teresa Crane always deliver an enjoyable read romantic with a touch of mystery. This one was very good a little tear jerking session included. Her books are a break from the usual murder mysteries that I enjoy so much. Michele Zito
I am fascinated by Teresa Crane's novels. Her writing is truly amazing and so I have given it 5 stars although sometimes I can't honestly say that I love the stories. She doesn't really write about happy people. Her characters are generally all flawed in some way, but perhaps that's what makes them so interesting.
The situations are usually very heart rendering and you are totally engrossed in the narrative. So I have to give her top marks and keep on reading her novels.
