Alex Rider meets Nancy Drew in a futuristic spy thriller full of adventure and suspense. Jazmin Dawson's alter ego, Jaz, is a gorgeous super-spy, and she doesn't have a serious snack habit, unlike Jazmin herself. In real life, the closest Jazmin gets to dangerous missions is waving goodbye to her mum, who works for secret intelligence.
A heart-pounding, futuristic teen spy thriller full of electric tension and dynamic suspense that appeals to the older YA reader!
This spectacular book is just outstanding and something which although intentionally targeted towards the teenage reader, will appeal to older readers as well! Fast-paced and exciting this is a story about a typical teenage girl who is gutsy, likeable and a heroine for many girls. This is a remarkable debut by an author whom I am so impressed by, and whose ‘Spy Girl’ series is now a firm favorite. The blue/mauve beautiful cover stands-out on the bookshelf, catching your eye with its supreme singularity and stylish simplicity. Indisputably exceptional I cannot compare this book to any other children’s fictional work, as the combination of cleverly crafted plot with attractive, memorable characters makes this a winner in my eyes. Character-driven I instantly connected to Jazmin being swept into a non-stop, thrilling adventure…wow!
Avid readers of the Young Adult genre and those who love Alex Rider or Ally Carter will love this witty, utterly compelling book. Carol Hedges has got her ‘target readership’ spot-on with the teenage protagonist of this tale, for she understands this age group projected brilliantly through the use of language and characterization. Unable to put this book down for even a moment, I without a doubt thoroughly enjoyed this breathtaking teen tale!
Jazmin Dawson’s alter ego, Jaz, is a gorgeous super-spy, and she doesn't have a serious snack habit, unlike Jazmin herself. In real life, the closest Jazmin gets to dangerous missions is waving goodbye to her mum, who works for secret intelligence. But when her mum goes missing on assignment Jazmin gets a chance to live out her dreams. She jumps straight on the plane to Prague where she finds herself at the heart of an international mystery. Mad scientists, weird religious cults and a demonic being that threatens to terrorize the earth are all in a day's work for would-be detective Jazmin Dawson…
Complete with spinechilling supernatural twists this interesting character-study (such as Jazmin and her cousin Clea), with parent-daughter relationships and mild teenage romance. I cannot wait to read more within the ‘Spy Girl’ series and so ‘Out of the Shadows’ is next on my to-read list, and I look forward to finding out more about this fantastic author!!
*I won a copy of ‘Spy Girl: The dark side of midnight’ through “Dizzy C’s Little book blog” as part of the advent giveaway (December 2012). I would like to say a very BIG thank you to Carol!*
It was a good book that was very interesting to read, it was really hard to put down. One thing that I did not like and that surprised me was how dark some parts of the story turned out to be.

I got this book a few years ago and I absolutely adored it! I've reread it more times than I can count. I've always loved spy books and I loved how Jazmin wasn't your typical 'spy girl'. She loved reading books and had a junk-food addiction, she was a pretty relatable character and the plotline wasn't stereotyped and predictable.
I didn't like this book as much as the others. I really don't know why. Maybe because of the angel. Besides that factor, it was a really good book and written really well. For this one I give it 4 stars
From what I remember of this series is that it was awesome! I always wanted there to be more books in the series but there never was, hopefully in the future, though I highly doubt it. Also it would make a great movie or potentially a tv series!
the first 3/4 of it was more interesting. in the last part, there was too much un-necessary description and the characters were confusing. but the middle and beginning was fun to read.
I like the idea of this story line and i also liked some of the charecters but i didn't like the mystery she had to solve i hope the next one is better
