The Outremer Chronicles #3

The Thorn In The Crown

Rate this book
A dying king, a realm divided, a time where honour and courage are not enough.
THE THORN IN THE CROWN is the third exciting Chronicle of Outremer. Set between 1183 and 1187 AD, it is a tale of blood, honour and tragedy. With great pace it tells of the events leading to the battle on the waterless plain of Hattin, as seen through the eyes of Honfroy, Lord of Toron. Here, Guy of Jerusalem clashes with the might of Saladin in the final conflict that will decide the fate of Jerusalem for the next millennia.

My passion for writing historical fiction stems from childhood visits to the castles of Edward “Longshanks” in North Wales. I have a great love for mountaineering, sailing, music, reading and old movies.

I am a full time independent writer. My novels include the bestselling ‘The Templar’s Apprentice’ and its three follow-ons which are set in the years up to, and including, the Third Crusade. ‘The Blood of Arthur’ tells of the young and turbulent life of Edward III. I also wrote a thriller, ‘Merriegold’, which is based upon MI5’s activities in post-WW1 Britain.

‘Red Deserts, Black Gods’, my latest novel, is the first of a proposed series set in Ancient Egypt.

Excellent Story

This third volume of the Outremer Chronicles includes the same excellent writing as books one and two. Great action, good plot, well-defined characters, and excellent descriptions of scenes and activities.

Three books ,five stars

The speed of the narrative was tremendous. All the characters and the area were so clearly laid out in front of us. It ended too soon, more please

Very good

Simply can't wait for book four. Honfroy soldiers on. What a guy. Illustrates wonderfully well the difference between the few haves and the masses of canon fodder have nots!!!

What a historical lesson, it brought it to life I was enthralled, I felt for Honfroy his anguish and his pain, and his loss for Elspeth, I’m now going to start the 4 th book, what lies in store?
