Perspective #2

Second Wind

Rate this book
Megan and Irys have found themselves tangled in a web more intricate than either could have imagined. Sometimes you must stand against your enemies and sometimes you must befriend them if you want to survive.
---
Irys:
The Masquerade was over but only now was I wearing the mask.
Everything appeared the same but to me it looked twisted and distorted. Megan was gone. I'd failed both my friend and my Goddess. It was time for action. I would be a part of it.
---
Megan:
I was trapped and afraid, but I wasn't alone. Warriors were all around me. Who could I trust? All I could hope was that Irys was safe and that Thayn would come for me.
Until then, I would do what I had to do.

I like this story just as much as the first one. I didn't know there was going to be another one until I got to the end of this one, so I'm looking forward to the next one too. I like all of the descriptions and characters. And I especially like how the story goes back and forth between Irys and Megan. I like Megan the best because she's funny. My favorite character in the book in Pounce. I hope Megan finds her in the next one. I also like all the different gifts the warriors have.

The ladies are back, and I love ’em. Brave and loyal, funny and vulnerable. That’s Megan Wynters and Irys Godeleva. The only thing is, they are both all of the above but in different quantities which makes them unique from each other: two unique voices that draw you in and hold you page after page.

Authors, Amanda Giasson and Julie B. Campbell create these two voices and place us back into the fantastical world of Qarradune for part two of this classy tale. Throw in ghost wolves, a magnificent Skydasher bird of prey, and a warrior that walks on water and you have something truly special. They then give us the unexpected as far as plot goes and even more memorable, breathtaking characters. I found myself constantly saying, “I didn’t see that coming.” The plot twists feel natural, make sense and are not jarring: not shock for the sake of shock. My favorite character is Aésha. As Megan (too funny) Wynters puts it, she's strange and unpredictable.

Irys’ bout with substance abuse written in the first-person is pure genius from a writing standpoint, the best part of the story for me. We see through the protagonist’s eyes the complete road from addiction to recovery, and it’s brilliant. This line from an addicted Irys tells it all. “I was aching for something to help me stay awake or something to force me to sleep. It didn’t matter what it was.” We also see the perfect love of family between two people who only have each other in Irys and Lord Emery.

Second Wind often feels like two stories connected by the powerful bond of Irys and Megan. As a reader I found myself aching to get back to each other’s story and understanding their pain to get back to each other and in Megan’s case … home. It isn’t until you get to the final page that you realize there is more (Yay!) that you have to wait for (Ugh!). Five stars for beautiful writing, building tension and suspense and intriguing characters with depth.

Second Wind is the much anticipated sequel to Love at First Plight, a unique fantasy novel with two notable heroines. Irys and Megan are back, along with all the villains I loved from the first book, to include Lord Imery (granted that’s probably just me, I really don’t like that guy). Though I’m not typically a fan of alternating POV, I love the parallels in the stories of the two women, the way it becomes clear as you read that they’re both prisoners. The world-building is there along with characterization, and subtle but intricately detailed storytelling. I can’t wait to hear what happens to them next! Pick up a copy, you won’t be disappointed. Be sure to read Love at First Plight first to get the full experience. :)

Highly recommended! An incredible page turner you can't put down. It should be on everyone's must read list along with the first of the series Love at First Plight. A stellar follow up to the first book by the two authors that will leave you wanting more. A great read and can't wait for more. Highly recommend this book A+

Great continuation of story from the first in the series (Love at First Plight). Interesting development of characters as the two heroines grow more capable in their story lines. I was on the edge of my seat as I was reading and was left stunned (with my mouth gaping open) by the cliff-hanger ending!

I'm still really impressed with this series, even more so with this second book.

I like how Second Wind jumps off right from the end of the first book in the series (Love at First Plight) and there isn't a whole bunch of time spent on reminding the reader what happened in the last book (I hate when a full chapter is dedicated to re-introducing you to the characters and plot).

The stories of Megan and Irys continue to be fast-paced and interesting. Irys in particular really shines in this book. There is so much character growth and emotion on her side of things, while Megan's side remains fun and brings you deeper into the world of the Warriors, introducing new and interesting characters like Amarogq and Mez.

Like the first, this one also ends on a cliffhanger (argh!) so I can't wait to get my hands on the third book to find out how the two characters find their way out of the new struggles they're facing.

I enjoyed this book ++. After reading the authors' first novel,Love at First Plight, I was eagerly waiting for this sequel. It did not disappoint. The story is a real page turner. It is so well written, I find myself attached to Irys and Megan & concerned for their welfare. What else can happen to these two friends??? Lots of suspense..A very good story.

WOW
I Am Impressed. Second Wind move along like a building storm. All the characters and the new ones are easy to visualize with Megan and Iris Growing. The story line went from interesting to obsessive with all the adventure and suspense I like
Way to go Amanda and Julie

P.S. When is the next one coming out?
