Eighteen year old Lexi O’Connor is about to leave behind all she knows; her career soldier father and the home she shares with her Aunt Claire, to travel to Scotland and discover her family’s heritage.
While exploring the historical city of Edinburgh, Lexi is attacked. Extremely shaken by the experience she flees; finding sanctuary in the small country town of Dunkeld, where she takes solitude in the local cathedral and meets the endearing Jack, who introduces Lexi to the local priest.
Upon meeting Lexi, Father Michael believes that she is part of an old church prophecy and informs her of the part he believes she plays in it. Lexi is bewildered by what she has been told and is unsure of what to believe.
Does she stay and fulfil her part in the prophecy or does she run away from her destiny?

I meet M. G. Ryan at Gold Coast Supanova; she was a few booths down from me. I was intrigued by her cover and title, so I brought a copy. An overall feel of the book, I enjoyed the novel itself, but the last third was I say my most favourite part. It follows a hero’s journey but had elements of romance and discovery of oneself.
Lexi is the main protagonist; her character was a great way of showing a strong female without trying to make her overly masculine. Her femininity was I think one of Lexi’s compelling points, which caused me to become engaged with her story, accepting her path with a measured approach. I read one review that is was like Twilight, as I have read that series, I can tell you it is far from that type of story. Some elements are similar, wolves and vampires but it concentrates on a prophecy about a vampire hunter. The Lore of the Vampires was more like Anne Rice than Stephenie Meyer. There are some issues of flow at the beginning of the book, but once you move past that, the story was difficult to put down.
Jack is Lexi’s main supporting character. I do like him, he feels like a real person like Lexi. Something happened to him in his past, and he needed to understand this. The relationship between Lexi and Jack, I found believable. Being that close to an oblivious attraction with each other show how organic romance h in literary form.
My favourite character is Corey, can’t go into why as I think this would ruin the book for readers but when he came into the story, the dynamic of Lexi, Jack and Corey made me lose track of my reading and before I knew the book was over. I want to read the next one now!
I would highly recommend From Dusk. Aside from the pace at the start, the book flowed and showed what knowing the path and walking it means.

Easily the best YA Vampire tale I’ve read. It’s intelligent by comparison to another tale (which included glittery vampires and werewolves, of all things).

The author knows her stuff. Her research into Scotland made me believe I was there, and the characters are well-developed.

Plus the story kicked along from the start. Then it built pace until I had turned each page and devoured the book in less than a day!

Now I have to read the second instalment! But first, I must rest! Just for tonight!

Instantly, I was drawn in and dragged along with the undemanding and effortless tone of the book, and I found the conversations realistic and quite indicative of young adults finding their place in the world.
From early on, I felt enthralled by the pull of the prohecy as it seemed no matter what decisions Lex made, she still moved down her destined path. I also loved the sense of home she created with a stranger's cottage and the friends who quickly fell into the mantle of family. It left me feeling warm and content.

The only reason I wouldn't give this easy read the final star, is that I felt it could have used a little more flesh in the romance and action scenes. Though I did enjoy the subtlety of interaction between Lex and the love interest, I did find the escalation staled. Similarly, I enjoyed M. G Ryan's use of descriptors, ensuring the first few fight scenes felt like a scramble and the last seemed dealt with a clinical disregard. But, finding the fights over in a matter of sentences, left me unsated.

All in all, a very easy read with a charming and vivid backdrop. Looking forward to the next instalment.

This was a charming book. I am a sucker for a sweet romance and I found the subtle romantic gestures intertwined with the Vampire Hunter script, very captivating. I also really enjoyed the making of the adopted family - I felt the love and connection and warmth. M.G Ryan's descriptive passages are quite incredible, and if she ever gave up writing fiction (which I pray she doesn't) she could make a fortune in writing reviews for travel brochures! I've been to the UK now - in this book! I also loved the fight scenes and the fact that the Hunter grew to like them! I love the process Lexi went through while learning to embrace her fate!

For lovers of the vampire genre like Buffy, Angel and Twilight, this book is a must. To be honest, never been a fan, never watched any vampire movie/TV series or book but still enjoyed reading From Dusk. and now really want to go to Scotland. Thank you, MG Ryan, for the wonderful imagery.

I found this tale to be quite extraordinary. Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel would most definitely enjoy From Dusk: The Vampire Hunter Prophecy, as the story is mildly similar while also carrying some rather unique aspects, making it so vastly different from the stereotypes. Michelle Ryan’s ability to describe symbols in a book or a country’s landscape down to the smallest detail enabled me to easily visualize what I was reading. Although the text could do with some polishing, the adventures within the pages were absolutely engrossing, making me want to read more and more without a single break. Each of the characters has a detailed story and is easy to relate to. I very much enjoyed Lexi’s journey from innocent young girl to legend and warrior, and I recommend this book to readers over the page of 12 years who enjoy suspense, drama, adventure, romance and humor teamed together in this paranormal thriller.

Think Twilight Goes to Scotland with a twist

From Dusk: The Vampire Hunter Prophecy. Think Twilight goes to Scotland. This is a quick paced novella for all readers especially Young Adult and New Adults readers who devour Paranormal/Fantasy series. I enjoyed the character, 18-year old Lexi and loved the description of her journey. I traveled abroad during college and I’m quite impressed at Lexi and her adventure. It makes you want to go to Scotland-- better yet it makes you want to be part of a legacy and be eighteen again and meet Jack. Great quick read, I’m looking forward to the second book.

In 'From Dusk: The Vampire Hunter Prophecy', MG Ryan weaves a gripping tale of a young girl on the verge of womanhood looking for her place in the world.
Lexie, fresh from finishing high school travels to Scotland where she aims to discover her family's heritage. A terrifying and life-changing experience in Edinburgh leads Lexie to find sanctuary in the village of Dunkeld where she learns of her part to play in an ancient prophecy. But, will she stay to face the prophecy and fulfill her destiny with Jack her soul-mate, or will she run?
I recommend 'From Dusk' as I really enjoyed reading it and I'm eagerly looking forward to the sequel coming out soon!

What happens next??? A smoothly paced tale, with genuine, likeable characters and some beautiful imagery. Had to suspend my disbelief a little more than usual because I would have preferred a few more challenges in Lexi's path (it all seemed to come together a little too easily) but I liked her enough that I didn't really mind. Scenes with the wolf were beautiful, and the hints were laced neatly through the book. Favourite character: Corey - love that kid's sass.
But mostly, it feels like this story has just begun, and I want to know what happens next!

An intriguing and clever storyline, 'From Dusk' takes you on a scenic tour through Scotland while following Lexi on her coming of age journey. An easy to read novel that stays with you long after you've put it down. Bring on the next instalment.

M.G. Ryan wrote a sweet story about a teen who goes on holiday and is attacked by a thing out of her nightmares - a vampire.
In a random spurt of terror and fear, she runs in a random direction and just so happens to meet people that can not only help her come to grips with her incident but also reveal her to be a special prophesied Vampire hunter.
The story is sweet and I really liked the strong uncompromising strong woman hero. Her style could do with some improvement, she constantly switched between first person direct point of view to first person omniscient point of view, this had a detrimental impact on the enjoyment of the story.
Through out the story we were looking for two other members of the vampire hunting team; a prophet and a protector. I felt that whatever choices the main characters made they were always going to end up in the same situation, almost like the characters were on a ride and didn't have a say in the events that happened. Lexi did at least struggle with the appearance of mythical creatures but I felt she quickly lost the sense of wonder in the whole situation.
A great story for a bed time read, looking forward to more from this author as she grows and learns, like we all do.

This is a great new take on those nasty mythical creatures that have haunted our childhood dreams.
I loved Ryan's description and philosophy on the origins and abilities of vampires, shape-shifters and otherwise, fantastical beings of horror and destruction. In fact, her take on them makes them actually believable.
This story is of a young, newly graduated Aussie girl Lexi, who takes her big OE after studies. She suddenly begins to have intense dreams, which scare her... they bring on stresses which cause her to question what is real, and what is not.
While on her OE in London, she is attacked and finds that what she thought to be impossible, is in fact, very real and she had better deal with it before it's too late.
She cuts short her London visit and travels to Scotland where she feels at peace and soon her holiday OE, is more than just an idea she wanted to fulfill, but it becomes where here destiny truly lies.
The story rocks along, maybe a little too quickly in places as some things happen rather abruptly, and could have been expanded on. However, despite this, it doesn't disappoint.
Characters are well developed and I kinda like some of them. But, keeping secrets could be the death of them.

Lexi has just graduated from high school and hasn’t any idea about what she wants out of life. She decides to travel to England and Scotland because that was where her mother’s family originated. She spends some time touring London then travels to Edinburg where her whole world changes. She is attacked by a vicious assailant who sinks his teeth into her neck before her self-defense training kicks in and she escapes his clutches. Lexi soon meets another young man, Jack and he helps her tour the countryside and introduces her to his mentor, a priest who weaves an unbelievable tale about vampires, hunters, and prophecies.
Well-written story with action and suspense. The premise is fascinating and I enjoyed the ride. Because the novel is written in first person, I didn’t feel a strong connection with Jack until toward the end of the novel. Highly Recommended.

It is not the kind of book I normally read so I will review it in context of its target market which is teenage vampire story readers. I can see this being a hit series It's fast flowing, easy to read and will suit people who are into vampires but disavow violence. It has romance but of the sweet variety with no sex of any kind. The premise of the story is interesting and original. All in all it's good entertainment value.

It's hard to put a unique spin on vampires these days, but this story is worth the time and effort. It doesn't romanticise vampires, and our heroine Lexi, is a reasonable, grounded character. A romance of sorts, From Dusk was enjoyable and charming. I'll be reading the sequel.

I really liked the whole concept of this book and the character's relationships with Lexi, however, I do feel like some scenes were very rushed and I would have liked more time spent in some of those scenes! Overall I did like it!

Easy to read with likeable characters and a well-drawn setting. Moves along at a good pace. I felt Lexi could have had a few more challenges thrown her way, but overall an enjoyable read.
