The final battle between the Humans and the Zaltule is drawing near. However, the Arachnids have a secret that will ensure victory and allow them to wipe out the Human race once and for all.
In the Strell Empire, former Supreme Overlord Xatul plans his return. He has amassed a fleet to take back control of the Kleese Empire.
The Humans realize they need more time to prepare for the coming attack of the Zaltule. To buy the time they need Fleet Admiral Kelly sends Seventh Fleet deep into the Kleese Empire to draw the attention of the Zaltule. However, even the best-laid plans can sometimes go horribly wrong.
This is the climactic conclusion to The Galactic Empire Wars Series.
I live in Clinton Oklahoma with my wife of 40 years and our cat. I attended college at SWOSU in Weatherford Oklahoma, majoring in Math with minors in Creative Writing and History.
My hobbies include watching soccer, reading, camping, and of course writing. I coached youth soccer for twelve years before moving on and becoming a high school soccer coach for thirteen more. I also enjoy playing with my five grandchildren. I have a very vivid imagination, which sometimes worries my friends. They never know what I am going to say or what I am going to do.
I am an avid reader and have a science fiction / fantasy collection of over two thousand paperbacks. The space program has always fascinated me and I've followed it since its inception. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an astronaut. Now, I just write about it.
So, all 5 books done and whilst the story is quite good it can be frustrating to read. Below are some of the things that bugged me throughout the series.
1) copy and pasted paragraphs.
If I have to read the below paragraph again I think I'll lose it:
"...the battlecruisers were designed for war, and there were no large training facilities for conscripts or holding areas inside the ships. The ships were filled with power systems and narrow corridors that would make it nearly impossible for a conscript in a battlesuit to traverse."
2) inconsistent weapon effectiveness.
One paragraph a weapon is really effective, shortly later with no apparent increase in Zaltule defensive technology the weapons aren't nearly as effective
3) everything's a damn battlecruiser
There is no fleshing out of fleets past battlecruiser, light cruiser and assault ships. Anything but a battlecruiser is cannon fodder.
4) point defence
It doesn't exist for the first 4 books then seems to be there by taking around it in book 5
5) sub light anti matter missiles
They're sub light but seem to get everywhere regardless of distance almost instantly and don't change over the 5 books yet seem to be the most effective weapons.
6) multifaceted god damn eyes
Seriously every time a Kleese is mentioned it's always looking at something through it's multifaceted eyes.
We really don't need to be reminded that the kleese are arachnid in form and have multifaceted eyes or seven fingers on almost black arms.
7) time
Space is mind bogglingly massive, yet everything seems to happen in minutes or at most an hour or so other than ftl travel.
Other than that it is quite an enjoyable series with an interesting plot and some good character building. Although it seems there's only a handful of bad eggs in the human race now.
Before you start this book, please realize it is #5 in a series: if you haven't read the other books in the series in order, this one will make no sense to you.
If you have enjoyed the series, I don’t think you will be disappointed. Without having a spoiler, there is a lot of action and the usual battle scenes and a refreshing change of pace in comparison to other science fiction series I have read is the humans don’t always win and there are a lot of human deaths. I will say the final battle scene was a bit unbelievable but the author does a good job of setting a stage for a continuation of the series with yet another “open” ending. I would invest in the next episode.
I picked this up for $3.99 here in the Kindle store: if you've enjoyed the series so far, you'll certainly get a heck of a lot more than $3.99 of entertainment value in this installment.
This book was great. A couple of times the author used sentences with specific details that seem almost exactly like sentences he used earlier in the book to describe the same thing. I don't know why he did, and it wasn't really a problem but annoyed me a bit. Still, this book was great. I hope there are more books to come for the series, but if not, the book has an ending much better than if there series were to have ended for a prior book in the series. I recommend reading this book to fans of military scifi or prior books in the series.
As most of Mr. Eric's work this series follows much of the same plots as in his other series but THIS ONE HAS BEEN THE BEST SO FAR! I still await his follow ups and finishes of the series that I have read but this series I'm almost holding my breath for and now I'm going to read the STAR CROSS SERIES... KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK RAY! And I'm sure that all of your fans feel the same way!
Well it's finally over! There is nothing surprising inspiring or particularly interesting in the book! if the over used words multifaceted eyes and triangular head were to be taken out where they are not needed ; the size of the book would have been considerably shorter and more focused. All in all I feel that the hours I spent reading the book could have been used reading something more interesting exciting and and with more heroic characters!
The inclusion of the characters personal relationship development brings the reader another dimension to enjoy along with military action. Mr Weil provided a formidable opponent for the alliance. Diversity and cooperation is victorious. I have read all the books in this series. I have enjoyed all of them. Highly recommended.
I have read the whole series, books 1-5. Each one held my interest constantly with the twists and turns in the story. As a result, i will look forward to finding to follow up books.
Second time through. Would love to see this series and slaver wars continue. Also starcross also have really enjoyed all of your books and have loved them all. Would love to read about the special five exploreing the universe
This is one of the best book series I've read in a long time. Each book was hard to put down, had to keep reading to find out whats happening next. I hope there are more books. I believe there's enough story lines to write more. Thank you for an excellent read.
This is a fantastic story and series. I am looking forward to the sixth installment. I ask everyone who likes this series to encourage the author to continue.
I think I've said this a few times before, but this is one of my favorite authors. His stories always have a lot of action in them and it's the humans against the aliens. Starships in huge numbers are also always present and in this book, that makes a big difference. This book isn't really about "Insurrection". it's about the destruction of the Human-led Alliance.
The Zaltule, the warrior clan of the Kleese, are back and in a big way. It's a good time for them to be around since the Human-led Alliance just about wiped out the entire leadership of the Kleese with an attack on their homeworld. It didn't finish off the Kleese, but it did let them know they had an enemy that could hit them and hit them hard. This drove the Kleese to awake the Zaltule from their slumber of a thousand years. The last time the Zaltule were awake, they almost took over the entire Kleese Empire. Now, they were intended to come to the rescue of the beleaguered Kleese and fight an extermination war against the Humans and their Allies. Unfortunately, the Zaltule decided the had had enough of the regular Kleese rule and were not continent to fight unless they were the Masters of the Kleese Empire. So, Xatule, the current Supreme Overload has fled his capital homeworld hoping to stay out of the Zaltule's extermination campaign. He and his band of followers settle themselves in amongst what were formerly very dangerous enemies of the Kleese. There they flourish and grow a fleet of warships with an intent to regain the lost Empire.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Military Overlord Harmock, sits in the Council Room of the Kleese Empire informing all other Kleese Clans that they are now subservient to the Zaltule or they will cease to exist. He expects to have to exterminate a few clans who are stubborn and don't pay attention, but then he plans on attacking the Human-led Alliance and definitely exterminating every living human. He's just waiting for his fleet to gather all 10,000 warships.
Meanwhile, the Alliance is attempting to figure out what's happening with the Kleese and if they are in fact having a civil war. It's soon found out that the Zaltule have taken over the reigns of the Kleese Empire and they know of Supreme Military Overlord Harmock's next mission objective. What the Alliance doesn't know at first, is the size of the attacking Kleese fleet. Preparations are made to defeat an estimated 6,000 or so Kleese ships. Anything bigger than that and the Alliance is probably doomed. Uh, I think I already stated that the Supreme Military Overlord is wating to build his fleet to 10,000 starships, then he will attack.
It doesn't look good for the Alliance and the Humans in particular. Harmock believes that if he wipes out the Solar System, then all other Alliance resistance will cease. So, he plans to attack the Solar System with all 10,000 warships. There isn't a hope in the world for humanity, or is there?
Great character building, lots of personal story-lines, and even the death of some pretty prominent characters. War is like that and anyone can get killed at any time. I do hope there is another book in the series and this one makes that potentially possible.
This was a great series! Not all simple and tied up nicely, but full of problems, death and perseverance. This one of the best "mind movies" I've had in years.
I felt that this book was rushed to complete this series. It seems like he took two or three books he was planning on writing and condensed them together. I don't know, thats just how I felt when reading the last third of this book. Plus it seem as a lot of the book was rehashing info from the other books. Like repeating the size/dimensions of the ships over and over. Yes, we get it. That ship be big. Compare to the other books in the series the quality just wasn't there. I think he's just been too focus on his other works to really give this one justice. At least he did leave him an opening to continue the series.
Overall I loved the other books in this series and re-read the books at least five times. I enjoyed this series more than the slavers wars because at least these books there were more ground combat mixed in with fleet action.
Disregard this next part. It's just a giant rant.
What I don't get is with the time jump from what happened in the last book. Why didn't the alliance design a uniform ship with all the latest tech combined. If they did that with each class of warship, all the alliance worlds would be able to make a produce these ships. Making it easy to train everyone and be able to shuffle crew between the alliance. Also the commanders of each fleet would really know the capability of their fleet. Plus repairs and parts would be easy to replace. Also resupply ammo would be easy as well. Will all those smart races within the alliance your telling me that they don't understand logistics. If they had one design for a heavy cruiser, cruiser, and maybe a destroyer and battleship class ships they could of mass produced these ships a lot faster rate. Also why are they still using assault ships? Their death traps. Another thing would be, with their tech they have I would think they would be able to move all the asteroid habitats closer to the moon. That would prevent them from having to split their fleets so much to protect multiple locations. Even if it was a slow process it would make sense tactically. Mars is just screwed no matter what.
The book was overall pretty good as was the series I highly enjoyed some of the authors other works my biggest complaints about this book is how the humans were absolutely kicking ass the whole series until this book first Ryan's mission is a bust because they knew they were coming? That's unlikely since they were able to catch them off guard numerous times not to mention it is never explained how they knew the invasion was planned. I know this was his last book in this series which is disappointing because there are several plot holes that were never finished and I agree with most the other reviews it felt rushed. Other than that I enjoyed my time with the series and I'm looking forward to more if he ever writes more to the series it would be awesome if he wrote a sequel series to see the alliance get rid of the Kleese and the strell completely as well as the Zatule refugees

Book five continues the story of Earth and the alliances survival. The Kleese empire erupts into civil war and the battle for Earth solar system begins. Using a secret weapon the kleese fleet is destroyed and the alliance breaths a sigh of relief. The war is over ,or is it . For in a distant part of the universe a ship leaves to find a place to rebuild and return
How big where those battle cruisers? This book brings the series to an anti-climatic conclusion. It felt rushed and almost slapped together. Weil never could seem to remember if his energy lances could or couldn't cut through armor and he made certain to list the dimensions of each ship every time it is mentioned. The redundancy and incongruity are disappointments in what was an otherwise enjoyable series.
There are so many things wrong with this book, I have no words.
Please get a copy editor, or if you have one, fire them and get a new one.
Actually, I do have one thing to say. What the heck happened to the third galactic empire that supposedly shared the galaxy with the other two? It just sort of vanished into the mist. That is a plot hole the size of a super-jovian.
An action packed book by a very good author. An ending . This book is action from the first page I am really glad I purchased this. It is well worth the $3.99 cost. I would recommend This book to everyone.
Raymond keeps doing it. He just keeps putting out books that are great reads. The Galactic Empire Wars series is a well designed plot of books. A story worthy is Isaac Asimov or Arthur C Clark. Thank you so very much. I look forward to new books from you.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading these books. This is the second series I have read from this author. And all of the books have been very well written. I look forward to reading the rest of his books soon.
Rushed, under developed and a constant rehash of information from his other books. This wasn't a very interesting read and I found myself skimming parts as the character development was repetitive.
Would like to see the series continue. Still seems likely the will be no satisfactory end until the Kleese are driven away or converted, especially the Zaltule.
