Gemma had a hard time figuring out what she wanted to be when she grew up. She worked as a film and television actress, a teddy bear importer, a department store administrator, a preschool teacher, a temporary tattoo artist, and a 900 number psychic, before finally selling her first book, Spying in High Heels, in 2005 and deciding to be a writer.

Since then, Gemma has written several mystery novels and been the recipient of numerous awards, including a National Reader's Choice award and three RITA nominations. Her books have hit both the USA Today and the New York Times Bestseller lists.

Gemma now makes her home in the San Francisco Bay area where she is hard at work on her next book.

I’ve reviewed some of the stories from this book of cosy mystery collection separately. Some of the stories were really good, others not so good. The first story wasn’t all that great, I didn’t like the first story in the book, but the other ones seemed good enough.

This is a terrific collection of cozy mysteries with proceeds going towards a reader nominated charity. I've read all the books in this collection and thoroughly enjoyed them. I enjoy collections such as these, I always discover a new author. I thought since there were so many books in this collection that I would include reviews for some of my favorite books and series.

Luck Be a Lady by T. Sue VerSteeg and Gemma Halliday:
This is a great, fast-paced read with well written characters and snappy dialogue. There is plenty of action that will have you turning the pages. I look forward to more in this series.

Merit Badge Murder by Laslie Langtry
This is a fun, engaging book that will have you laughing out loud. I really liked this book! The story will quickly draw you in and keep you turning the pages until the surprise ending. Leslie Langtry is onw of my favorite authors who tells a good tongue-in-cheek story full of humor and characters you want to get to know and are likable. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Southern Peach Pie & a Dead Guy by A. Gardner
Poppy Peters life is drastically changing. According to her, she is no longer the "mediocre dancer" she has trained to be due to a back injury. Now instead of dancing, she wants to attend the pastry school her grandmother attended. Unfortunately, Poppy's first few days are disasterous, she almost burns down the student kitchen (she didn't do it), she's accuesed of theft, and finds herself the primary suspect in one of her instructors murder. Poppy and her new friends investigate to find the real culprit before she is kicked out of school.

This is a quick, light read that quickly grabbed my attention and has likeable characters. There were a few twists to the story that kept me guessing. The transitions to some scenes were not smooth and interrupted the flow of the story. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I would read more in the series.

Luck Be A Lady (Tahoe Tessie Mysteries book #1)
3 STARS
by Gemma Halliday & T. Sue VerSteeg
I don't get the allure of casinos, gambling and hints of the mob, so I wasn't expecting to like this, but it wasn't half bad. The main character and her ridiculous stepmother were a bit endearing. I do, however, hate it when characters stupidly and knowingly put themselves in life threatening situations, and that happened here, when Tessie decided to visit her fathers competitor to get a few questions answered... just so irritating.

Merit Badge Murder (Merry Wrath Mysteries book #1)
1 STAR
by Leslie Langtry
After a few pages, I was quite hopeful thinking this would be a fun little mystery. I even laughed out loud once or twice. I very quickly got sick of laughing -- everything was too over to the top and relentlessly so. Dead bodies everywhere and a heroine that's smart enough to speak multiple languages, but too stupid to know how to decorate. I think if she had spent a minute or two online, she might have discovered Pinterest and found a few ideas. And I'm going to guess she had seen a curtain or two before being sent overseas by the CIA after she finished college.

Will update review as I read more of the books in this collection.

WOW! What a bargain to be able to buy 10 novels for 99 pennies! And these 10 books are some of the funniest and best mystery books around. Special favorites include Calamity Jayne, Merit Badge Murder, and Motion for Murder...although I read all of them and liked them all! These are awesome authors who are sharing their first in series books. You can't go wrong buying this set of great mystery books. You are sure to find some favorite new series as well. Don't miss this one!

Fantastic value

This set of ten books is great value for money and each book is a nice easy read, but don't be fooled into thinking these are short stories. I enjoyed the ease of not having to decide on which book of the hundreds waiting on my kindle to choose next, although I have some great looking books to get caught up on.
