On a steam train bound for the West, Clara Frost and Rod Montgomery take an instant dislike to each other, but after Rod saves Clara from a vicious attack, they find themselves reluctant travelling companions. As they talk, they soon discover that the mysterious, dangerous influences behind their respective journeys are more closely linked than they could have imagined.
Fighting tooth and nail at every step, unravelling the truth behind dishonest business deals and the disappearance of Clara’s father will not prove easy; especially as it quickly becomes clear that Rod has taken on a demanding task, and just keeping hot-headed, impulsive Clara from putting them both in even more danger will take not just a determined head, but also a firm hand.
THIS IS A FINE MESS WE’VE GONE AND GOT OURSELVES INTO I enjoyed this mystery suspense story that takes the reader from New York to Chicago, to St. Louis and then to on to Texas. Clara Frost’s father has gone missing, and the police are not doing enough, so she takes his diary full of cities and codes and is determined to find him. Rod Montgomery overheard something and knows he needs to leave Chicago immediately. From the time Rod and Clara meet in Chicago on the train, there is angst between them. He finds her to be stubborn, quarrelsome and infuriating. She sees him a bossy. The plot twists kept me in suspense and the pages turning as the story unfolds, more of the mystery is revealed. Clara gets herself into some serious messes that Rod must bail her out of, and he makes her pay a price, right over his knee with a good old fashion spanking.
Although a little short, this wonderful story is filled with mystery, intrigue, love, and spankings. I adore how Red wants to protect Clara even after she shows what a self centered brat she could be. Clara constantly challenges Rod with her attitudes and behavior. No matter what Rod tries to do to help Clara she is determined to put herself in the middle of the danger and action. At the same time they both find themselves falling in love with each other despite their differences. The closer to danger they get the more protective Rod gets with the woman he loves. While Clara knows Rod is right she just can't help jumping in the middle of things before she thinks. This author's storyline was well thought out, the characters blended together nicely, and mystery flowed wonderfully. What was not to like. Way to go!
This is a fast paced mystery involving Clara and her missing father. Clara boards a train to find her father when she believes the police are not doing enough. Onboard the train, she meets Rod who has a mystery of his own to solve. They clash istantly, but Rod cannot help himself from protecting Clara. As they soon discover, their mysteries are intertwined and they begin to work together. As Clara soon finds out, Rod will not tolerate either her temper, bad moods or putting herself in danger. He handles her unacceptable behavior by repeated spankings. As the two come closer to solving their mysteries, they begin to fall in love. Can they make it to happily everafter, or is Clara too stubborn to change? I thoroughly enjoyed this read!
Saving Clara was a very amusing story about a woman who travels to the old west to rescue her father. Clara is foolish and impulsive, trying to do the job a detective should be doing. Lucky for her, she meets Rod on the train, a rancher on his way home. He feels the need to protect her, which is not easy, and he saves her butt more than once. It's only fair then that he bust her butt, trying to teach her a lesson. The plot had some interesting twists and moved well. The story switched between Clara's perspective and Rod's, so there was some overlap. I liked both characters and their interactions had me laughing at times. It's a very good book and I recommend it.
This was a lighthearted fun story that had enough twists and turns to keep you turning the pages. Clara, an feisty impulsive young woman and Rod, a strong alpha male who keeps getting Clara out of trouble of her making. Told in a humerus way made this a wonderful read.
I really enjoyed this book the characters were great and although the plot could have been more complex for a first time publisher this was excellent. I hope there are more books with this couple.
