Opposites attract. Isn’t that how the saying goes?
When out and proud Stefan Gold falls for bad boy Alex Gill, he has to wonder how they can ever work. While Stefan is an unashamed twink with a passion for make-up, flamboyant clothes, and high heels, Alex is a macho, musclebound thug with a reputation for being a bully.
Behind closed doors, Alex hates his life. He hates having to hide who and what he is. Alex wants to change and be the man Stefan deserves, but he doesn’t know how. Stefan wants to help him, but he’s still not sure Alex is genuine.
With their secret out and their friends turning against them, Stefan realises he has to stand up and fight if he and Alex are going to have any chance at all.
Kay Ellis lives in rural Oxfordshire with her two daughters. She has written stories from an early age, starting with an epic adventure penned at primary school which sadly had to end when a hard-hearted teacher refused to supply any more writing paper.
Over the years Kay’s style has changed as she has grown more confident in her writing, developing a relaxed and informal style. She has also become braver in content, turning her hand to writing gay and straight erotica.
Kay writes for the love of writing and from a fear her head will explode if she doesn’t have a release for her vivid imagination.
It’s only now Kay has found the courage to submit work for publication, having recently finished in the top three of a national writing competition.
"Oh, by the way, my secret, Neanderthal, psychopatic, so-far-in-the-closet-he's-in-fucking-Narnia, ex-boyfriend will cripple you life if you touch me."
I thought this book was going to be trash, the only reason why I got it was because of the cover. I was wrong.
Im not good at reviews, so i'll just say, I loved their relationship even though if this had of been my friend I would have been exactly like Amanda. "Are you out of your fucking mind?" probably would have been how I would have reacted while I called the cops. I get it, but I still found Amanda annoying. I like that Alex cried not once, but twice! I also really liked that Alex was not so black and white, he had a lot to deal with and really no one outside of his 'boyfriend' to talk to about everything, and you can't always talk to your 'boyfriend' about everything.
Oh I loved this, absolutely loved it! I was in my element, I love a small effeminate man paired with a great hulking muscle man, love it! And that is exactly what you get in this story. It’s beauty and the beast at its best. Slim, pretty, make-up wearing Stefan finds street thug, bad boy Alex is attracted to him and he doesn't understand why as Alex’s gang are known homophobic bully’s. There is violence in this and homophobic slurs, but at the heart of it is a love story of two who want better for themselves.
Let's glorify abusive relationships some more, shall we?
I would have probably liked this book a little bit if Stefan had, just once, successfully stood up for himself. Unfortunately, his wishy-washy, weak-willed character was the perfect complement to Alex's rage-fueled, unapologetic, angst-riddled self.
Perhaps they deserve each other. That doesn't mean I want to read about how romantic their dysfunction is.
This novella was okay. It had a little something that kept me reading until the end. Not sure what, though. Maybe because I found it humorous at times, due to it all being OTT: the MCs, their actions, and what happens to them. Maybe because it was so short. 🤷
Somehow a macho thug and a flamboyant twink fall in love. Even though they never really talk or have anything in common. It's sex = love.
This excerpt sums up their relationship: Apart from that first night when we shared the pizza, we had never just sat and talked. Our time together was always spent satisfying his sexual needs. I knew little about Alex. He knew nothing at all about me.
The overused gay bashing trope is a plot thread.
The MCs are seriously injured and end up in the hospital. I nearly DNF'd when the injured twink, barely able to shuffle, somehow took down two bad guys while vaulting over a hospital bed. Then he's beaten up even more. How he survived is anyone's guess. 🤷 It was fairly entertaining, even if it was ridiculous.
There are only two short sex scenes, which are not detailed or steamy at all. The romance is seriously lacking. I never felt the love.
The ending is abrupt. I doubts the MCs will make it in the long run. An epilogue would have helped.
I read this in one sitting, because it was actually unique! Written in only 1 POV, not bogged down with repetitious sex .. and yet utterly romantic! This is a very good read!
