Another great Greek mythology comic retelling in the series :)) Don't know why some people just don't like this book. It explains the origin of the Golden Fleece, as well as briefly tells the story of the hero Jason on his quest to get this magical fleece. This is perfect for those who are craving Greek mythology stories, just like me ^^

I read this aloud to my son; it being a little too hard for him to read himself comfortably and he wanted me to read it to him. Ds is already familiar with the tale of Jason as I had read a lengthy retelling in Classic Myths to Read Aloud by William F. Russell but that book has no illustrations. This graphic adaption was all we hoped it would be! A well-told, detailed retelling written in chapters. Most of the exciting bits of the journey are there and the story keeps well to the original myth with the limited 63 pgs. The illustrations are gorgeous and it is wonderful to see the story brought to life before your eyes in this way. The illustrator's style is a very modern comic book look though Jason is drawn in an almost anime style though his features stay recognizably masculine. I highly recommend this book and others in the myth series, especially to boys who are reluctant readers; with the book being at a 2.4 RL it will appeal right up to early teens.

Other than the painful use of the word "snuck," this is a good short adaptation of the tale of Jason and the Argonauts. Yomtov and artist Gerardo Sandoval included all the highlights of the tale, but had to cut out a few small things and chose to "clean up" a few of the more gruesome details of the traditional tale for a younger audience. The real down side to this minor abridgement is that it makes the Greek gods seem even more capricious than usual, letting people die or helping them at whim. For instance, as portrayed, there's no reason why Hermes couldn't have saved Helle, in the section explaining where the Golden Fleece came from.
Still, it's a good visual retelling for elementary readers.

In this book Jason and his Argonauts are sent by King Pelias to receive the golden fleece. On their journey they are faced with several obstacles such as battles against harpies, a giant bronze Talos, a hydra , and an animated skeleton army, but eventually they are able to get through them. Also, during this journey they are under the protection of Hera, the queen of the gods. Jason later learns that King Pelias was out to get him all along. I thought this graphic novel was pretty interesting. I would highly recommend this graphic novel because it has its own way of showing what Ancient Greece was like..

Intermediate age students on up who enjoy Mythology will like this graphic novel adaptation of Jason and the Golden Fleece. The illustrations were done very well and the story was easy enough to follow, even though Greek Mythology does tend to get a bit confusing. Percy Jackson and the Olympians fans will love all the references that Rick Riordan borrowed and was inspired by.

A very brief retelling, but it may interest kids in reading more.

My biggest issues with this book is it should be longer with a more complete adventure including events it mentions at the back of the book and the reading level is more simple than I like.
