The Girl Who Just Wanted To Be Loved

Rate this book
The Girl Who Just Wanted To Be Loved is a heart wrenching true story from foster mum and Sunday Times bestseller Angela Hart.Eight-year-old Keeley looks like the sweetest little girl you could wish to meet, but demons from the past make her behaviour far from angelic. She takes foster carer Angela on a rocky and very demanding emotional ride as she fights daily battles against her deep-rooted psychological problems. Can the love and specialist care Angela and husband Jonathan provide help Keeley triumph against the odds? This is a true story that shares the tale of one of the many children Angela has fostered over the years. Angela's stories show the difference that quiet care, a watchful eye and sympathetic ear can make to children who have had more difficult upbringings than most.

Wow what a story. I truly felt the struggle Angela and her husband went through trying so hard to look after Keeley as her foster parents but being pushed to the absolute brink by her behaviour. A story that shows how challenging it can be to be a foster parent.

I really enjoy these carer books. Kudos to the Harts for what they do; they are very special people. Glad Keeley's life turned out better than it started.

I believed this book was a very great one. I loved the overall theme and the storyline, as well as the way it was written. It was a rather easy read. As soon as I started, I did not want to put it down. I think the development of the characters was very good, even though it might not necessarily be the way you'd want it to end. I love the way it captured the emotions of everyone and something I really really appreciated was that it showed the reality of being a foster carer. Because being a foster carer isn't just adapting kids into your family and loving them and then they'll be fine. It's a full-time job. It is very hard but usually very rewarding.
The only dislike I have is that the book isn't more well-known by people. I wanted to buy other books by this writer at a big bookstore and they hadn't even heard of her. I would definitely recommend this book. I simply loved it.

This is my first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed her work. I truly respect people like these foster carers who rise above and beyond taking care of difficult children and situations. She did her best to show an unloved child love that she previously did not receive. I appreciated the happy ending and the way the foster carers were able to handle the stress of dealing with three different foster children at the same time. I wish the world had more caring foster carers and fewer children who needed them.

Great book

I enjoyed reading this book about Keeley. She did seem like a hard child to take care of. Poor girl went through so much. I do wonder what her Mother did to her. Some of the ways she touched her at visit was wrong .

Excellent

Well written especially for education classes or training for foster carers. I have read all her books. I would not have the patience for this child.

This book is apparently spreading old myths about child development.

It is a shame that this unrecognized diagnosis is still being presented to the public as real. "Attachment Disorder " (AD) is usually conflated with real condition called Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), but is totally different. Typical of a quack diagnosis, AD has nearly 100 signs attributed to it, so that any child will get this diagnosis if taken to an Attachment Therapist, such as Dan Hughes. In the USA, the AD diagnosis and fringe Attachment Therapy have been denounced by all national mental health professional organizations as abusive and potentially harmful.

This is not to say that children can't have challenging behaviors. It's just that none of them have AD. And getting a careful and science-based diagnosis is key to getting children the help they need.

Wow

What an amazing read this was. My heart ached for Keeley and I found myself praying for a happy ending. So glad for the epilogue because it really tied everything together so well. Angela can tell a story beautifully and as a fellow foster carer these stories inspire me.

Hart’s writing could be hard to follow at times but I did like how she talked about how being a foster carer has shaped her life overall versus just when Keeley was with her.
