For newlyweds Jaine and Ter Bryant the long tiring journey across the prairie from their comfortable home in Natchez was a small price to pay for the new life they hoped to find in the promised land of California. But the dream became a nightmare when their wagon train was attacked by a Commanche war party whose chief carried Jaine off to be his second wife.

Pretty much a dated book from 1974. It fit all the bingo markings of a western themed book, from Indian attacks to grizzly bear fights. The macguffin is a woman constantly kidnapped and raped waiting for her husband to find her and save her. I kept waiting for her to fight back in some manner like dropping a large rock on somebody as they slept, but no. It felt less like a western and more like a mountain man breaking laws ft Indians and a vengeful husband.

A good western/frontier/mountain man story. Young wife is captured by marauding Indians and her husband spends a year looking for her before he finds her. By the time he catches up to her she has been sold to a mountain man who is in no mood to return her. A different story and a quick read. Recommended to western fans.
