Review of Slow Dancing

In Slow Dancing by Elizabeth Smith, attractive young Hallie Prescott must defer her dreams of becoming a fashion designer to support her husband Casey’s pursuit of success as a novelist turned fledgling screenwriter in Los Angeles. In his efforts to climb the social ranks, Casey is entrapped in the clutches of a producer’s seductive and conniving wife, Nicole Turner, which leads to the demise of his marriage and ultimately his undoing.
Enter suave Grant Keeler at just the right time and place for slow dancing to take place as a prelude for what is to come. But it doesn’t play out that way, not this time. Meanwhile Hallie finds herself entangled in a web of treachery and deception where she becomes the target of ruthless criminals who will stop at nothing to get a tape from her, one with incriminating evidence that will send a prominent politician to jail. Reenter Grant into Hallie’s life only to be linked to the investigation, which places Hallie at great risk.
Both Hallie and Grant have to come to grips what life has dealt them before either can move on and find fulfillment in their lives. Can their slow dancing become a reality again? The reader will hinge onto every word in this multi-layered page-turner as Ms. Smith takes us on a journey of romance, betrayal and intrigue.
Ms. Smith’s talents as a novelist are evident in her expert plotting and characterization. The reader roots for protagonist Hallie Prescott’s safety and happiness throughout her ordeals. Settings come alive with Ms. Smith’s minute descriptions, and dialog is natural and unique to each character. Slow Dancing’s momentum makes it a satisfying read for the beach, fireside or whatever spot the reader chooses.

Memphis, TN. Casey William Prescott was now a very successful author/writer. His book Journey to Fear had went to the top of the popular book list.
Irwin Turner (screenwriter/producer) wanted to make it a movie.
Los Angeles, CA. Hallie Prescott (widower, UCLA, U of Memphis) just buried her deceased husband Casey William Prescott (MS, English, U of Memphis) of a very short 4 yrs. of marriage.

What did Hallie find out about Nicole Turner (Irwin’s wife)?
What was Rick Hardister asking a $100 grand for?
What was Detective Sam Harris (Santa Monica P/D) investigating?
Why was Grant Keeler tailing Hallie?
How will Hallie’s life turn out?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. Wow, a very well written Romantic Suspense book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a large set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Romantic Suspense movie, or a mini TV series. 1 book you won’t want to put down. Not sure how the title fits the book. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Elizabeth Smith weaves a compelling story from TN to CA and back. Her development of characters is compelling and murder and mayhem give way to a closing slow dance between lovers. Read it and enjoy. I look forward to FRENCH CROSSING!
