This one starts with a "hero" (for the lack of a better term) that is pretty easy to hate and is kinda the poster child for evil. This does not make him lovable in any sense of the word so we have a LONG way to go to get to that point.
Morthanion is pretty much self absorbed typical evil characters until he stumbles across Aria, we spend a lot of time in the transition from total jerk/evil murderer/etc to someone you can relate to is a nice touch and done fairly well.
As with all great stories there has to be some bad guys and there are those in plentiful supply, you get a transformation from obsession to compassion that is not done in the blink of an eye as I have seen in many books. It pretty much hit all the right points for a great story and the only minor complaints are a few points of obvious stupidity required to move the plot along and the pacing which became a bit slow in points because you knew some "good stuff" was coming and you wanted to get there faster (hey, I love revenge).
Bottom Line: A great story of about 250 pages that I read in one day because I could hardly put it down, the transformation from mass murderer to hero might require you to suspend your belief system and hide it away for a few hours but it really was done well (and somewhat believable) without turning this into a doorstop. Highly recommended as great entertainment and if you have a day of doing laundry or something, this would be a great way to fill in the voids, you won't be sorry.

I was really excited to read this book because...THAT COVER IS GORGEOUS!!!!
Getting over my cover lust....
So this was a book about a horrid demon who has the chance to be redeemed through love. We've all read a similar rendition of this story whether it was literal or even metaphorical. However, Tiffany Roberts brings a fresh new voice to this wonderful story that never gets old. The romance between Morthanion and Aria was instant which was not something I particularly liked. I was a little wary of the insta-soulmate reveal and we allllll know I am not a fan of insta anything. As the story progressed I realized it was quite one sided on Morthanion's part, Aria was REALLY hesitant and I really liked that!
The writing was great and very well paced. I could actually see the situations in this book play out in my head with the language used. The prose was beautiful and their expressions of love were...AWESOME! My heart hurt a few times! *sighhhhhhhhhhh*
It wasn't just Fantasy and war and fighting. We get some STEAMY scenes! I was not prepared for that because of how the book was panning out before these interludes. I was pleasantly surprised and I love being surprised...IN A GOOD WAY! Those scenes were awesome so very well done, Tiffany Roberts!
Morthanion's growth as a character was quite quick and at times, not too believable but then he would do things that would show that he is still struggling with the change happening so I found it a tad bit more believable. I had some other minor issues with this story but I feel like their just related to my preference so 3.5-4 stars is my rating!
A very good debut novel and I will continue on with this series and these wonderful writers!

May 4, 2018I had been eyeballing this book when I actually happened to win a copy so happily sat down to read this story from this new to me couple. I’ve found myself increasingly reading more fantasy romance and this although slightly paranormal seems to fit right in . We have a demon hero although he doesn’t start out that way and a heroine who is sweet, naive and more than a little magical herself!
What can I say about the Morthanion that is sent to a remote island to atone for his crimes ? Well he is full of his own self importance, uncaring of others and actually pretty nasty . Plonking him down without his powers though kind of helps to take him down a peg or two but what really changes him little by little is the woman who completely obsesses him.
Aria has lived her entire life on the island protected by a female prisoner who tried so hard to do the right thing. Now sadly Aria has to survive alone, hiding from the thieves and cutthroats that have taken over the land but sadly she’s not exactly doing a great job at remaining hidden. The demon Morthanion has seen her and now he’s chasing her, determined to capture her and learn her secrets. Can Aria actually trust someone so evil not to hurt her ? Trouble is Morthanion isn’t the only captive to have seen Aria !
Who doesn’t love a good redemption story? I liked that it took Morthanion a while to fall in love because as a reader I could see signs that he was totally oblivious to which just added to the fun. I did think Aria was perhaps a little too trusting and well frankly made glaringly silly mistakes but her goodness shone through so I can overlook that. Yes Morthanion embraces his feelings for Aria but fear not as he’s never going to be exactly a goody goody but honestly who would want that?

From the first sentence itself I was hooked. Not necessarily on story but on writing. It just flowed. There is definitely a poetic quality.
Demon Morthanion was banished to a prison island by mages after they took his magic. There he meets an alluring water creature. Drawn to her despite his fury and revenge he continuously chases her but unknown to them dangers are lurking closer and closer.
I loved hero Thanian. He was a badass and a softie. I loved his devotion to the heroine. And the heroine Aria sometimes got on my nerve for doubting his love for her. But she was cunning and sweet. She constantly tricked Thanion in the beginning. Villain was .. well villainous. I loved the way Thanion killed him (bloodthirsty much🤦♀️)
The story was very enchanting and I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the backstory of Aria’s parents and was very heartbroken about their ending. I didn’t like the torture scene in between. But liked the last chapter.
Eventhough I enjoyed this , I wouldn’t be continuing this series.

I mostly loved this one. My biggest issue was that, even though the other criminals REPEATEDLY were able to reach Aria... they kept separating. It got so frustrating... like.. STOP leaving each other.

Second time reading this book and I have to say that I loved it even more the second time around!
"Nothing to fear," he whispered, stroking her hair, "not from me."
Who would have ever thought that such a massive, terrifying demon would have such a gentle soul with the one he loves.
"Are we returning?" she asked.
"Yes. It's too dangerous to stay out here much longer." He grinned. "Unless you want some lessons in how to kill a man in such a way that he screams as loudly as possible."
Holding his gaze for an instant, she looked away, face paling visibly. "I do not care to hear you speak like that, Morthanion." Without looking back, she began to walk toward the incoming tide.
"My humour oft goes unappreciated," he said in a tone of mock mourning, following just behind her.
I can honestly relate to Morthanion on a personal level here. My dark sense of humour often goes unappreciated as well, my friend.
"You choose what you are, you are not born to it."

Make Me Burn is the first book from this author that I have read, but this is a book that I have had on my wishlist for what seems like years. I have seen more of this author lately especially with her spider people series that has come out this past year. But I finally realized I needed to pick this one up and I am so happy that I finally did. I truly had a blast with this one here, While it wasn’t a perfect read, it was a solid one that I thoroughly enjoyed and had such fun elements that I love seeing in epic fantasy. The gist of the story is that our hero, is a demon and has been banished to an island which is where he discovers a woman, with a beautiful voice and an affinity for the water. They form a connection. But they are surrounded by enemies, and they have to learn to trust each other and their bond to reach their HEA.
I had such a fun time with this one here, and I really liked seeing a demon and a sired/mermaid match make it work. But it does take time, they are so different from each other and I just love seeing the way that they learn to trust in each other and while it seems at times they are always back and forth with each other, I really loved seeing the small moments that forge a bond between them. I do wish the hero had been a bit less of an alpha mellow though, but I truly enjoyed the manner in which he treated our heroine. I also think she could have been more accepting of him. He seemed to be the one changing and adapting for her, but it didn’t go the other way around and I wish she had been a bit less judgy. I did love the plot as a whole, it definitely keeps you on your toes and I am so intrigued by the character that will end up being the hero for book two, he was such a fascinating character. Overall I found this one to be a delightful mix of a high fantasy setting, a unique match up and an enticing romance.

I need to get this review written, I need a new concept...
Story.
A demon is sent to an island with other people that mages do not like. The island is hell, wtf is mages thinking, women do not stand a chance there. I get that mages are all, let's get rid of the baddies, but this was such a bad idea. But it makes for an interesting story since people are bad. Though we learn something late on that really makes me hate the mages, they were assholes too.
Characters:
Ok so at first I was really worried about Mort, he is such an alphahole. He sees a woman and is all, I will have her. Omg man, ahole much, and then he makes his I have never raped anyone speech. Which I find hard believing since he is very alphahole. But like always he does get into his big stupid brain that she is his mate. And he does care for her.
Aria, oh this girl was naive beyond words. I get that someone took care of her for 20 years ago, but I have a hard time believing she did not die one day after that person went away. She does have some sort of self-perseverance...at times. And she does go all My demon so very fast.
They are perfect for each other.

Judgement.
It was cheesy in a good way. A fantasy romance with darker moments, passion, and two people who I do not understand are still alive falling in love. So read it for the cheesy escapism.

Yes! Tiffany Roberts is quickly becoming an all time favorite. Three books read by the duo and enjoying every second! Have yet to be disappointed.
I adore the imaginative mind Tiffany Roberts dreams up. What they put to paper is so freaking captivating! I'm pretty sure i've finished every book in a single sitting because I can't get enough until I've got the satisfying ending I've come to rely on. The story telling is subarb and exhilarating!
The characters even go as far as to add even more to the plot. Together everything reads flawlessly. The characters were strong and rounded, not without fualts and strengths. Full of deep and raw emotion. I loved the couple and the lack of insta-love too! The growing concern and admiration on our heroines part really helped bring out the sexual tension on our heros part, so when they finally hit that point of intimacy it was incredibly satisfying as the reader. Juicy, juicy, juicy!
Paragraphs. And sooooo many of them. In a row too. Again, a bit tedious so docked a half a star. Although interesting passages, sometimes I just didn't care for what was being said in them at all times.
Eager to pick up the rest of the series this year!

Okay, so...pardon me, truly pardon me, but it seems I really can't get into anything by Tiffany Roberts except the Vrix stuff because, let's be honest, I'm comparing everything that I read by this author to The Spider's Mate trilogy.
Talk about regretting starting off with what's the best!
But, again, pardon me, but whether it's a kraken or a demon, nothing can compare to a spider alien in terms of originality and spice!
So, while this is probably a great read in the grand scheme of things for hardcore monster/alien romance fans and especially Tiffany Roberts fans, for me it's just subpar after the excellence that is Ketahn and Ivy--and all the other Vrix romances that I'm looking forward to reading about!

Loved this book!! So well written I couldn't put it down till the end. Characters were well written, emotional and diverse. I enjoyed their story immensely. Can't wait for more!!

Morthanion has been banished to the Isle of the Forgotten, a place he thought was only a myth, for all the terrible things he's done in his four thousand years of life. Known for his hell fire, he's been stripped of all his harmful demon magic (left only with a few core abilities), just like everyone else who's been sent there. In the outside world, Morthanion is feared for his ruthlessness and strength, but on the island he isn't much different than the others with out his magic. He will have to learn how to survive with out his fire in a foreign place full of other deadly criminals, who all want to live just as much as he does.
Aria has lived on the Isle for all of her twenty-two years of life. She was born on this island, and after her parent's tragic deaths, she was raised by another prisoner, who kept her protected and taught Aria everything she knew. Keeping her protected also meant keeping her isolated and unknown to the other residents, and now that her only mother figure has passed, Aria will have to figure out how to live completely alone. She's young, Naive, and extremely sheltered - she doesn't even know the extent of her own abilities, nevermind what the other prisoners would do to a girl like her if they ever found her.
When Thanion goes to investigate a beautiful voice he hears, he's instantly taken with the young woman. Aria, always having been taught that the other prisoners would likely torture and kill her, tries to lose the demon that's persuing her, but he's a hard one to lose, for long, anyway. No matter how many times Aria escapes him, or no matter how she does it, Thanion's interest in the water elemental only grows stronger. When he realizes what his feelings mean, he tries to convince her that they would be better off working as a team to survive on the isle, and earns her trust.
However, Morthanion's actions have attracted the attention of the other prisoners, and his reputation causes alarm to the one who seems to rule this land of the Forgotten - another demon. When they learn about his mate Aria, the only one on the isle who wasn't banned from using her magic, Baltherus knows they could overtake the isle if given the chance. If he can not get them to work beside him, then he will have to find a way to bend them to his will - by any means possible. To have magic on his side, even if it's someone elses, would assure his reign over the isle for all eternity, and what else is there for a deomon who's been banished to a land for life?
Make me Burn by Tiffany Roberts is a dark fantasy romance, full of action, love and mythical beings. This is the first (short) story in the Isle of the Forgotten series. I feel that I should mention *trigger warnings* (although the author does that herself): there are scenes that contain attemped rape (and the mention of it), violence and torture and there are graphic (consensual) sex scenes.
The characters are well fleshed out, and I loved how both of the MC's showed growth in a believable way. They all had their own voices, even the secondary characters, and I really came to like both Aria and Morthanion. The world building, however, was practically non existent. Sure, the Isle of the Forgotten was described in vivid detail, but I don't know anything about the world outside of that. We see random, vague mentionings of "The Council" who banished Morthanion to the isle, but we don't really get enough to understand how it works. It isn't until the end that we learn a little bit more about them, but again, not enough to really understand. There are so many different creatures in this book (demons, "water elementals", elves, mages...) and they seem to all have their own tribes and ranks within them - does the council govern all these creatures if they have the power to banish them?
The writting is good, and many times I found myself highlighting witty dialogue between the MC's, and laughing at the humorous retorts. The plot was interesting and I was excited to see how it turned out, there were a couple of twists I didn't see coming and few more things that I did predict - but the writting and story kept me reading. I thought the ending was a great build up for future installments, but I was disappointed to learn that it's written in the POV of a different character that I don't particularly care for.
There are a few other things that I wish were explained better. For example: Aria has lived a sheltered, isolated life on the isle, so I understand why she doesn't know what she really is, but I don't understand why neither the demons, who are over hundreds of years old, (and none of the other characters) can say what she is. They call her a water elemental, and she knows that she has power over the water, but no one knows why, or what else she might be able to do. I thought this fact might have been kept secret for the future, but then I don't even know if they'll really be in the next books.
Overall, I did enjoy this story, but there wasn't enough build up for me to love it. This book mostly just touches the surface of this fantasy world - there's more about the "present" than there is about the "past". I would have liked more background and a better understanding of why and how it all works. I'm not sure that I will continue this series, because like I said, it will be written in the POV of a character I don't really like, but I might continue just to see if there's a better world building in the next one. This story is great for anyone who enjoys fast paced, adult dark - fantasy romances, who might be more interested in the romance than world building. I was torn between a two and three star rating - but ultimately I felt it was lacking too much for me to give it three stars.

After reading the Valos of Sonhadra series, a sci-fi alien romance series with each book written by a different author, Tiffany Roberts (as well as a few other authors) popped up on my radar. This in turn inspired me to pick up Make Me Burn the first book in the fantasy romance series, Isle of the Forgotten. When I started I wasn’t sure what to expect, I wasn’t even entirely certain whether it was a fantasy or a PNR. What I got was a surprisingly sweet and sexy romance all set in an interesting new world populated by elves, demons, angels, mages and many other species we have yet to meet.In Make me Burn we don’t see much of this world beyond the Isle of the Forgotten, which is where the Justicars, an order of mages that dispense justice, send all their worst criminals once they’ve been stripped of their magic. As a demon who has wrought destruction for 3 millennia Morthanion definitely counts as the worst of the worst. Aria was born on the Isle of the Forgotten, but has been hidden away by her guardian so none of the men held captive on the island know about her existence. Until Morthanion spots her and is suddenly awash with feelings and sensations he’s never experienced before. All he knows? Aria is his.
I am not normally as massive fan of the whole bad-boy being tamed thing and Morthanion is definitely a very bad boy. However, both he and Aria won me over pretty quickly. Aria’s curiosity and resilience made her a very likable heroine and I loved her honest and open reactions to Morthanion. For Morthanion this is about redemption (he really has done terrible things) happiness and finding a new perspective on life which doesn’t mean a fiery death for those who annoy him. Do I think that just because you acknowledge that you have done bad things in the past that that’s enough? That he should now be free and clear as long as he promises to be a good boy… not really. However, as I don't think too long on that point it's very was to enjoy the story and characters as presented by Roberts.
What I liked most about this story was the romance, although Morthanion was an imposing, protective alpha type hero, Aria had her own inner strength and wiles that made her more than a match for him. I loved their dynamic and of course, the heat between them was unmistakable.
A really great start to the series, and I can't wait to see what happens with some of the characters I've met, from Baltherus the scheming demon that has been on the island for over a century, to Keric the head of the Justicars. So, if you are after a fantasy romance than you definitely need to give this series a chance. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I was provided a copy of Make Me Burn in exchange for an honest review. I loved the concept behind the story. Set in a world where magic is prevalent, and demons are very real and very evil, to the point that they wreak havoc around the world. An island is built to imprison demons and all magic users who have committed unspeakable acts, deeming them no longer fit for society. Diminished of their magic; they are sent away to live, die, or possibly thrive on this island, outside of polite society. No guards, no rules.
Morthanion, a four millennium old demon is captured, diminished and sentenced to this island. Knowing nothing but rage, death, battle, and destruction for all time; he is the keeper of the Flame, and has brought nothing but destruction in his paths. Imprisoned n this island, without his power, he finds himself in an unknown position; captured, diminished, and vulnerable. Also, surprisingly captivated by a small slip of a woman he stumbles upon when he first arrives.
“For a fleeting moment, he had the disorienting sense that every decision in his life had inexorably led him here.”
Aria, the daughter of a prisoner, is an island born native; she knows nothing but the island and has grown to fear the prisoners, since they killed her parents. The men on the island outnumber the women and she knows what will happen if they catch her; there are fates worse than death, so of course, she frantically flees when confronted with Morthanion.
Instinct insist that Morthanion find Aria and make her his; yet, Aria refuses him causing his nature to battle against his needs. Knowing he needs to earn her trust in order to keep her safe and by his side; his demon instincts battle him and it’s a hard fight to win her trust.
There are dangers all around, and Morthanion struggles to protect Aria from not only himself, but the rest of the inhabitants of the island, especially when she becomes the most coveted person there.
I really enjoyed the story. It was chalked full of danger, romance, love, thrills, and magic; not to mention, a pretty bad ass hero. I look forward to reading more of this series. I am not sure if it will continue with Morthanion and Aria, or if we will get a story about someone else. I would love to see a story about Baltherus next....Sara

the major thing that bothered me was the scene where the female character meets the first two bad guys and 'of course' they try to rape her-because i'm not sick of that crappy plot device or anything
but because the creepy MC saves her...he is no longer creepy?? and then HE almost rapes her- hurts her and only a few hours later she forgives him and almost immediately sleeps with him? she's not even mad?
um no thank you. yuck.

Didn't know what to expect from this book but I was pleasantly surprised. An evil 4000 year old demon Morthanion gets stripped of his magic and sent to " Isle Of The Forgotten". There he encounters the sweet and innocent Aria. From the beginning he has feelings for her that he can't explain but she doesn't trust him. Slowly a relationship develops. There are some great plot twists. The ending left it open for book two without leaving you unsatisfied! Highly recommend!!!!

Engaging book but overall the plot felt rushed at the end. And i am not really into goody two shoes heroines who are all "oh noes! Dont kill that man was was literally beginning to rape me! Killing is bad blah blah" and of course it bites her in the ass but no one acknowledges she is dumb, just praises her for her moral rectitude. And dude was badass but becomes "tame" because of his love for her. Blurgh.

In terms of story? Not that bad really. But the writing. It was bad. Incredibly hard to follow.
It was weird though, one second I thought, "God! there is still so much left" and the next, "Oh! How sweet." I couldn't wait for it to be over and stop dragging and in the next pages flew.
So sort of generous, 2.5 stars.

This was pretty good. I really enjoyed it. Both Thanion and Aria were likeable characters that were forced to grow and change as a result of them meeting. It was well written and an overall interesting story line. I'll definitely read the next one.

June 4, 2020On hold @ 42%. I love Roberts, I really do. This book is not bad. It’s just not compelling right now, and in a time where I find myself with less than no patience for mediocre, I just don’t have the energy to push through this one. The only issue is that it’s clearly an introductory novel for this duo. I see the beginnings on what will eventually become their signature style of powerful, multi-dimensional alpha males and dynamic plot to artfully balance the romance, but Make me Burn is just not there yet. I’m almost halfway through and they have just introduced what appears to me to be the villain and it’s only been through one scene thus far. In other words Make Me Burn is slow. It’s slow to start plot wise, and the romance is lackluster. Morthanion definitely has potential, but Aria is too sheltered for my taste. Her personality is also non-existent. Yes she shows moments of chutzpah, but they are largely overshadowed but her constant running, which makes sense given the circumstances, but is not very interesting to read about.
Maybe one day I will reenergize and realize I have a burning need to find out what happens to the two of them, but right now I can’t keep myself focused on more than one page at a time which means it’s time to step away for now.

First book in the isle of the forgotten series. First read by these authors
The H ( no way I'm spelling his name correctly ) is a demon hunted down by a team of justice Madges ( GO GO JUSTICE MADGES )For his crimes of burning, killing and maiming ( ya know...the usual...doing what demons do ) he is teleported to the isle of the forgotten ( think Alcatraz ) and his powers stripped. Doomed to stay there for the rest of his immortality facing off against all the other naughty creatures who have been similarly punished and reside there.
All of its inhabitants except Aria... she is not a prisoner and she is not a 'bad guy'. Born and raised on the island she is doing what she has done, all she knows. Surviving. Avoiding the other inhabitants. Until now.....
I am literally Blown away by this wonderfully written and original book. Absolutely brilliant world building. Great great charachters, both likable and loathable.
I will be reading books 2 and 3 in this series.
