The book "The Laws of Winners" by Bodo Schäfer is a real product of its time, full of timeless stories and the author’s personal thoughts about the rules that true winners in life should follow. The author chose pretty safe advice that can really change how you think about your work, make decisions, and keep relationships with people. But do the laws from 2001, written by Bodo Schäfer, still work for people in 2025?
Here’s what I think.

Before Covid-19, Western culture had a big obsession with achieving success. We went to the office, built our networks, dreamed of climbing the career ladder fast, and read books about how to be successful in the corporate world. Giving all your energy to work, ignoring personal interests, and sometimes even moral principles to reach your goals seemed like the right thing to do, something to aim for. This way of life was always supported by pop culture, like movies such as The Wolf of Wall Street or The Devil Wears Prada, and a whole group of middle managers, so-called white-collar workers, who went to business trainings and dreamed of attending a Tony Robbins event to get a lifetime dose of motivation.

Everything might have continued this way, but 2020 changed everything with a big crisis in how we saw the world. This time brought new things like working from home, full lockdowns, Zoom meetings, and, surprisingly, a focus on ourselves. The longer we stayed at home, the more we thought about who we really are, what we love, and what to do if things never go back to how they were. Before, these questions didn’t fit into our busy planners or strict time management, but in 2020, they were the most important.
From these big changes, new kinds of coaches appeared. Unlike the usual ones, they knew how to deal with fears, control emotions, listen to yourself, and connect with your body. More and more people joined these spiritual guides, and slowly, the trend of chasing success started to change and create new ideals that I think we still live with today. Now it’s very popular to travel to Bali, explore spirituality, do meditations, stand on nails, try ayahuasca rituals, listen to singing bowls, and attract wealth by manifesting.

While reading the book, I kept thinking that some laws, like the rule to give 110% in everything or save money, don’t really fit modern people anymore. They go against work-life balance and the idea of abundance. But still, many of the author’s ideas really spoke to me and, more importantly, made me think about all this.
