Tongues are wagging all over town about Big Lake's newest business, the Black Stocking Brewpub, where the scantily clad waitresses are drawing crowds of men and the ire of local churchgoers. And that's before the arrogant womanizer who owns the brewpub is found murdered!Sheriff Jim Weber and his deputies have plenty of suspects to choose from as they begin to navigate the treacherous currents left in the wake of the murder, because the dead man, a person who seemingly knew no limits, possessed no humanity, and cared for nothing apart from his own greed and twisted desires, has left behind no small number of his own brutalized victims.
Nick Russell has hit the proverbial "can't miss" with his Big Lake - Jim Weber & a cast of believable & sometimes outrageous characters. Good plots & slowing evolving characters. Generally, a fun & enjoyable & entertaining read. Thanks Nick for your creative look at small town White Mountain life Big Lake series of stories/books. High praise from a native Southern Arizonian who has often visited & recreated in Northern Arizona & White Mountains. Still waiting for a reference to the exhilarating drive - North or South bound up/down the Salt River Canyon! A memorable moment of two on any trip outside the Interstate between Tucson to Flagstaff & eastward. Personally, I thoroughly enjoy reading your Big Lake series. Look forward to the next plot turner. A fan, Charles Brackney
I still can't find anything negative to say, about any of Nick Russell's books. I love them!! I think I laughed more throughout this book, than any of his others. And believe me, there's humor in each one. I sure wouldn't make a good sheriff, that's for certain. I wouldn't have any idea where to start looking for clues. I'm so gullible, I'd believe every killer when he pleaded innocent. Luckily there's all my favorite characters back again. They either are helping, with the investigation of hindering it. There's the mayor who Id love to toss down a well, or his brainless son, who he somehow managed to foist off onto the sheriff. I promise there is something in Nick's books for everyone. Thank you Nick for having your books in Kindle Unlimited, for more of us to enjoy.
This was a really good book. Most of this series by Nick Russell have excitement at the beginning with lots of investigation information throughout, but there is always a lot going on at the end, and usually a very surprising ending. I have enjoyed his series very much, and I always have a hard time putting the book down or should I say my Kindle. I'm retired, so I hurry to get my chores done in the morning so I can read. Afternoon reading time is usually 2 hours. I'm so looking forward to reading all 18 books in his series. Nick Russell's books so well written that I feel like I'm right there with the characters. I love that most of the characters are in all the books, plus a lot of new ones.
Another good story. So much of Big Lake reflects the tourist town I live in, except no skiing and far fewer murders. The tensions between long time residents and tourists and new folks is well told here.
Good.characters, although having read many in this series it is amusing to read the exact same description for a character in each new story....like word for word. A good example is Lois Burger who appears in most books. Kind of fun to start reading that and be able to tell it myself.
Brewpub brings two new people to town and will see if they appear in future stories. Also the future of Mayor Chet will be a story for sure.
This was a different story for Big Lake for me. It's not one of my favorite reads. But kept my attention. It brings business and partner ship into full view. It's a good read a little slow in parts but keep reading. The ending will have you Shaking Your Head.
Not one of his better books, but still very enjoyable. This being the 9th book in the Big Lake series, I've grown to feel a part of this little town and feel like I'm hanging out with the sheriff and friends. Will be very upset when this series ends.
I really enjoyed this book. The ending surprised me. I hadn't figured it out as early as I usually do. It was good...sad but good. I can't wait to read the next one!
I can only say the same thing I have been saying with each book that this is a great series. I enjoy the thrills and the mystery in these books. I'm going to start the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book and series
Another successful murder solved by the big lake police department Just when I thought it was over a nice plot to turn around in my head I really enjoy the whole crew in the department keep up the fine job of writing Nick russell
I'm getting to love this series. Each one continues to broaden the characters and situation development. Mr.Russell writes with humor and great knowledge of small town life. Looking forward to more.
Twists and turns and another well written story. This series is one to continue with. I’ve enjoyed reading them in order, but believe you could pick up anywhere in the series.
This is the sixth book or so of this author that I have read. Interesting story this time with too many twists and turns regarding who the perp was. Waiting to read the next one.
This was an intense, complex, and disturbing story that will keep you guessing until the very end. It's certainly not a story or series that you'll want to miss. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Great twisting tale of bizarre but true happenings. As the story went I was concerned about an actual killer being found. Many good side stories. Keep up the good work.
I loved this book, laughed so hard in places I got the hiccups! Loved the mystery of who killed the drunk too! Thank you for the final twist of who did it!
Unlike the previous stories, this one leaned a lot on the "who done it part" but at the same time it felt a bit predictable. Still a good story, but not quite the same as the 8 books before it.
Big Lake Brewpub is by far the best of the series in my opinion. Going from one to the other ‘killer’, the Mayor and his son, Weber sure had his hands full.
Big Lake series....I love Jimmy and his attitude....I'd recommend this to all who love to read fiction..this is a great series and the author has nailed it.
New (strip) club in Big Lake? Nothing but trouble. Mayor is a troubled maker like always. I’ve read better but then again this is a series of 25 books.
I have enjoyed this series of books. My only complaint in the entire series is the constant rehash of some of the characters backstories. I find it be annoying and end up skipping the entire diatribe to get back to the meat of the story. Other than that it has been excellent.
Another awesome book, with mystery, humor, and laughter,Mr Russell always keeps you guessing and laughing, and as usual l will be waiting for the next addition, well worth the read.l completely recommend the big lake series, sit back and enjoy the series cause you won't put them down
