What a rush! This book was full of great moments! My reading time has been limited lately, so I would finish a chapter leaving me with a cliffhanger, and I'd have to put the book away for a time. Torture!!!

This is the second book in this series and you really need to start with Solstice to understand everything. If you haven't read Solstice I'll try to be careful that I don't spoil anything for you.

I loved that the chapters alternated between Jez and Sol's POV. At the end of Solstice we know that Jez has escaped the Legislature and is now at Lake Town while Sol has been captured by the Legislature. Let me tell you there are some major twists thrown at the reader in regards to what we think we believe is coming and going to happen. And those twists keep the plot line moving forward very steadily. Not everything/everyone is as it seems. Who do you trust when everything you've believed keeps changing? The Lake Town people? The Legislature? The Banished? Your Friends? All is turmoil and chaos as the different groups are trying to scramble to find answers and decide which way to turn and what actions to follow through with.

I honestly wasn't expecting one of the major plot changes that happened but it was exactly what this story needed. Now I am in turmoil while I'm hanging out on this cliff until the next book is released. I'm needing to know what's coming next and how those characters I've come to love will survive. Will the sun ever shine again? Will the rains stop? Will good triumph over evil? Will the characters that I'm on the fence about turn out to be good or will they end up being the problem?

I enjoy Dystopian style books but there are several that I've struggled to get through reading the series and beng happy with the final outcome. I think mostly because of the main Hero/Heroine characters and choices that they've made within the books. So far I can't say that about these characters. I really like them. I like their commitment, their fortitude, their strength, their weaknesses, their desires. I even like the secondary characters and dare I say it....the bad guys. Yep! You read it right, I like the bad guys. They are well written characters. Some that you don't expect, and yet they aren't psychotic crazy creepy bad guys.

Here's some of the little goodies you'll find within this book: storms, rain (of course), the sun, explosions, boats, hidden messages, emotions, betrayal, hidden identities, freedom(maybe not in the sense you might think), survival, death(yes we lose characters, it's a dystopian novel-not saying who), revolts, hidden groups, fire, hidden passages, rocks, love, chemicals, answers, questions and a cliff......

I know you probably are thinking some of those are the most random words I could pull out of my brain and probably might seem confusing. But hey I told you no spoilers. Those words are all very important words for this book. So you must read it to find out why. This series has become one of my top 4 favorite Dystopian series so far. Hunger Games, The Convergence and Life(Logan Pond Series). I have several other Dystopian books that I love that are stand alone novels, but if I were ranking them all, these would still be in the top 5-10 books.

Content: fighting (not overly graphic-some blood and cuts due to the fights), storms, no language, a couple chaste kisses. I would say it's a clean read and would let my children 12 and older read it. In fact my older children are pretty excited about it when I told them what it was about.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Title: Lake Town (Solstice #2)
Author: Jane Redd
Publisher: Mirror Press, 2017 (March 1)
Genre: YA Dystopian, YA Science Fiction

I received a copy of this book free from Ebooksforreview.com in exchange for an honest review

*I plan on doing a review for the series on my blog, but until then I felt it would be best to do the second book here...so stay tuned for the whole series on my TeacherofYA Book Blog*

My Review:

So I read Solstice awhile back through Ebooksforreview as well...I loved the book! The world is one of constant rain: the waters continue to fall and there are only two dry days a year when the sun comes out. The world is quite different: emotions are controlled to keep the masses in line. Order has replaced chaos for the most part.

Jezebel James pretends not to feel, but she can feel everything: she has been trained by her caretakers not to show outward emotion.
She also has the Carrier key: this key that she holds will turn on the generators and will pump the rains away.

We learn all this in the first book Solstice.
We also meet Sol, Jezebel's best friend and secret love interest. She suspects he can feel too, but she can't ask. When we leave off in Solstice, Sol hides Jezebel in the tunnels under the city because officials are trying to find her.

In Lake Town, Jezebel waits for Sol but is taken to the Lake Town for her own protection. Sol gets stuck in the city: Jez finds out that Sol is the key to the resistance...he is from a lake town. He's known all about Jezebel but never counted on falling in love with her.

In Solstice, we only get Jezebel's POV, but in Lake Town we also get Sol's and it is quite enlightening.

The Lake Town plans on taking over the city and, with Jezebel's carrier key, they plan to turn on the generators and stop the rains. But with Sol in their control, the city learns of the Lake Town's plans...and plan a counterattack.

The only downside to the sequel was that it was a lot of build-up and no real pay off until near the end, and then I hit another cliffhanger.

End Result:
I am so wrapped up that I cannot stop now: I feel the whole story will be an amazing trilogy. (I think book three is where it stops)

I left off one star from five because I really wished Jezebel and Sol had more moments together...I really missed the romance from the first book. I think this story was more of a bridge between the first and next book: it's necessary but not as entertaining.

So I give Lake Town ★★★★☆.

And I encourage you to read Solstice if you haven't yet. Or Lake Town if you have.

This picked up right where Solstice left off. It took a bit for me to remember the details from the book and pick up on this one. (One of the hazards of reading a series right when it comes out.)

It didn't take me long to get right back into the dystopian world that Jane Redd has created. I remembered how much I liked the characters and the story. In this series, it has rained for 40 years and most of Earth is covered in water. There are a few places where there is land for the people to live. The government has control and represses the emotions of the people in order to remain in control.

The book is full of action, a little bit of romance, and a lot of strategizing. I love books where a few people rise up and make a difference. If you love dystopian, you should give this series a try. I would strongly suggest that you start with "Solstice" first.

The book contains violence.

The second book in the Solstice series finds Sol captured by the Legislature, awaiting torture and possible execution. Jez is safely in a Lake Town, having traveled by boat with Rueben, Gabe, and Michel. Jez meets Jude, Sols’ older brother and learns of the plans the Lake Town society to use her as the “Carrier” to go back to “the City”, activate the 40 year old generators and try to save humanity. I recommend reading the books in order so that you don't miss a bit of this great story! Once I started reading, I couldn’t put this book down until I finished! I look forward to the next book in the Solstice series!

Lake Town is the second book in the Solstice series. If you haven't read book one, Solstice yet, it is free on Kindle Unlimited or just .99 cents to buy! Yay!

This is a dystopian series and Lake Town picks up right where Solstice left off. Jez is on the run and Sol's friends are helping her. They escape the Legislature and make their way to Lake Town where Jez learns more about the rebellion and her place in it. Sol and Jez spend most of this book apart, fighting and planning in different places. I wished they were together on more than one occasion but that's okay. I'm hoping the next book finds them fighting together.

All kinds of crazy things happened in this book that kept me on my toes. I was invested and interested and really hoping things would work out. Of course, resolution didn't come in this book so I guess I'll just have to wait for the next book! I'm not very good at waiting.

A few years ago paranormal and dystopian books were everywhere and I was reading them all the time. Now I'm only picking up a few here and there. I've missed this genre and it was good to get my hands on one that I really enjoyed reading.

Content: some violence

Jez, aided by Rueben and others from a lake town, makes it safely out of the city just in time. When they arrive in the lake town, Jez sees that they are planning to invade the city, overthrow the restrictive legislature, use Jez (who carries the necessary key in her body) to power the generators, and set up atomic globes that can hopefully stop the flooding and ceaseless rain. However, Sol, who didn't manage to escape, has, under the influence of truth serum, told the legistature, as well as another rebel group, the Faction, what Lake Town is planning. He is forced to work with the Faction in order to escape execution, but he really is trying to find a way to keep all of Lake Town's plans from coming to naught--and trying to keep the girl he loves safe.

This book is an action-packed thrill ride. I didn't like it as much as the first book in the series, but I think that is mainly because we don't get to see Jez and Sol together very much. I did like seeing the lake town and how tney have been perparing for their invasion. I'm interested to see how things play out in the next book.

I was very excited to get my hands on this book. I read Solstice, the first book in the series, and couldn't wait for more. I love these characters and was quite surprised by some of the twists and turns in this volume. The action is nonstop. I couldn't put the story down once I got started. I was thrilled to have the story told from two different points of view in Lake Town. I quickly learned why the author waited till this book to introduce the 2nd point of view. It makes me wonder if we will get to see inside the thoughts of even more characters in the next book. No details included here, for fear of spoiling the suspense. Strong, noble characters fighting to make the world a better place to live.

Lake Town is the second installment from the Solstice series. Jezebel's secret has been discovered and she goes on the run and seeks Sol for protection. He sends her away where she is reunited with Rueben. They end up in Lake Town, where it is discovered the town's plan to destroy the city - The city where Sol is. She is torn between saving thousands or saving Sol, whom she cannot live without.

Lake Town is a fast-paced read, that made it hard for me to put down. The twists and turns was enough to make my head spin. I never knew what would happen next. This is an excellent young adult dystopian novel!

Lake Town starts where Solstice (the first in the series) leaves off. I highly recommend reading Solstice first.

Let’s just get one thing straight right off the bat, Solstice is the first book in the series and I loved it. Okay two things: Lake Town is still also VERY GOOD BOOK. Maybe three things? In my opinion, you need to read Solstice before you read Lake Town. It will just make things so much clearer.
There’s a lot going on in Lake Town, (the book). Things are hopping! I don’t want to say anything you can’t get from a book jacket so I’ll just say one thing, Lake Town is a very fun read and keeps you on your toes. I seriously thought several times that everyone was going to die. (Then I’d have to write the author a strongly-worded letter and who wants that?) Appropriate for YA all of the way to 150 years or so.

Romance, clean
This was a great second book in this series. Told from both Jez and Sol's point of views, their fight to reclaim humanity's freedom and resist the Legislature hits lots of snags, and unexpected turns. Jez is figuring out her place in the Laketown resistance after being rescued, and Sol is doing the best he can to resist the Legislature, figuring out the Faction and how to get humanity the freedom to choose to exist in a better world. This was an intense and action packed sequel to Solstice, and loved the ending! The secondary characters and events are well-developed, and loved all the details with regard to the resistance and battle by the Laketown fighters.
This book series with it's dystopian world is beautifully landscaped, created, and detailed, and worthy of a wide reading audience. I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to read this, and can't wait to read the final book in the series.

This was action packed, always interesting and clean. A nice follow up to the first book and lacking a cliffhanger ending (luckily, since I'm sure it will be another year wait for the next book in the series). That being said, I didn't like it as much as the first book. Probably because Jez and Sol are apart so much. Hopefully that will change in the next book. I also had a hard time with one point in the book... when Becca gets shot they tell Jez to clean up the wound and she seems to go do just that without issue. Since she grew up in the city, it doesn't seem like she would have had any of the knowledge or experience necessary, likely never having seen a gunshot wound in her entire life. It would have made more sense for her to be assisting someone from the Lake Town or at least being directed by them.

Lake town is the second book in the Solstice series, and a action-packed sequel to the first read in this series.

Jez is safe in a Lake Town whilst Sol is captured by the Legislature being tortured to give up the plan of the Lake Town people. Although this book has less romance then the first book, the fast pace and the sespence more then makes up for that. Also this book gives us chapthers into Sol’s POV, adding a lot of depth and demension into the plot.

I would say this is a very good follow-up, but you need to read the first book in this series to keep up with this story. I was one of the lucky one’s that got to beta-read this book in the very first draft, way back in June of last year. It was great in the aspect that I didn’t have to wait as long for the continuation of the story, but now I am so ready for the next book.

Be sure to pick up book 2 and if you haven’t given this series a go, pick it up now, you will not regret it!

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this dystopian book. I think I would have enjoyed it more had I read the first book, that's purely my fault. I didn't realize it was #2 in a series. I was able to figure out what was going on for the most part pretty quickly, the writing is pretty good and the book is solid from that standpoint. The alternating perspectives from our two main characters Jez and Sol was done very well. I definetly want to read the first book and will continue on with the third when it comes out.

This is a dystopian book about a civilization that is ruled by the Legislature. It rains all but 2 days a year and everything on the planet has flooded save one mountain top where the remaining 2 million people reside. Emotions are controlled by Harmony implants and those whose implants don't work or choose to remove them face banishment. Our heroine, Jezebel or Jez for short, her implant doesn't work and she's had to pretend she doesn't have emotions for much of her life. She meets some others like her and discovers that she is the key to the rebellion that all of these dystopian books have. Unlike typical dystopian books, there are 2 rebel groups trying to overthrow the governing body. I liked that twist to the standard dystopia we usually see. Jez is the last hope to save humanity and Sol, the boys she loves is the double agent put in place to learn what he can about the city. Sol is from the Lake Town and his rebel group is preparing to overthrow the Legislature with their technology that can hopefully reverse the flooding and eventually make it stop raining all the time. They need Jez to start the city's dormant generators as they need power to get their technology going. Jez is evacuated to Lake Town for her own safety while Sol stays behind to cover their tracks. Sol is caught, sentenced to execution, and recruited to the other rebel group. He finds allies within The Faction, and they work with him to let neither group take over the city. All the while, the people from the Lake Town are preparing their own offensive. Nothing goes as planned for any of the groups involved. The book ends with losses for all 3 of the groups, and everyone trying to regroup and figure out their next steps.

Copy of ‘Lake Town’ by Jane Redd provided in exchange for review.
---
I really enjoyed ‘Lake Town’ and the world that Redd has created. Between ‘Solstice’ & ‘Lake Town’ there are a few plot holes, as some other reviewers have pointed out, but I’m not looking for absolute perfection. Overlook some of the nitty-gritty logistics (ie: the rain-free Solstice that occurs like clockwork), and just appreciate the story that’s been created.

I have to say this is one of few times that I enjoyed the narrative going back-and-forth between different characters. This was able to create insight between the two story lines (the City & the Lake Town), which I felt worked really well. To be quite honest though, I’m still not a fan of Jez. I find that, besides being the Carrier, she doesn’t provide much to the story –she’s just there. She’s determined to help, which is all fine & dandy; but when I’m reading from her perspective, it feels like her head is full of fluff. She feels so removed from the passion and action in comparison to the others. I understand that she offers the perspective of a ‘City native’, but I found myself wanting to skip over her parts. Her thoughts and actions feel too hollow for a lead character - maybe that's intentional from all her years faking the implant? Who knows. Perhaps I’ve just been spoiled lately with strong female characters (Aelin & Feyre, anyone?) though. Regardless, I’m hoping for the next installment, Redd chooses to also include the narrative from either Reuben or Jude’s POV.

My personal grievances with Jez’s character aside, I really did enjoy this installment! It was action-packed from start to finish; the story never seemed to hit any sort of lull. I found myself completely sucked in, needing to know what was going to happen next. I enjoyed the introduction of some new key characters and what their respective dynamics brought to the story. As always, the end of the story brought up all sorts of questions for me – so I’m excited to see where Redd is going to take the story next. I’ll most definitely be picking up a copy of the next installment.

I received an eARC of this book from I Am a Reader. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Okay, I hate to admit it but I was not very impressed with this book. Lake Town by Jane Redd is the second book in the dystopian series Solstice. I really enjoyed Solstice so I was looking forward to continuing Jezebel’s story. However the pace of the book, plot holes, and poor character development led to a big disappointment for me.

Jezebel James is on the run with Rueben (the boy she met during her incarceration by the Legislature). He knows what she is and along with a small band of insurgents he plans to get her out of the city. Much to Jez’s surprise, Sol has been working with them the entire time. Everything Jez thought she knew about the outlying islands, her friend Sol, the Legislature, and her status as a Carrier is turned on its head. This set up should make for an explosive, edge of your seat read, but unfortunately it doesn’t.

First off, Jez goes from being a girl trained to hide all her feelings and emotions to a girl ready to fight the Legislature. Now I’m not saying she didn’t want to do this in the first book because she did. It’s just in the first book she struggled with how easily Rueben showed his emotions and well acted human because he told her he was also immune to the Harmony implant. Yet she still struggled, now in this book she flips the switch showing all her emotions and acting very human. There wasn’t a gradual progression as I thought there would be or at least what you’d expect from a girl who has lived her life scared to show these feelings.

Then there’s Sol. I liked that we get his POV in this book. I was extremely curious as to who he was after he showed up at the end of Solstice a friend of Rueben’s. Here is someone like Jez who fought the Legislature by hiding his emotions, yet apparently he was insurgent the whole time. Everything Jez knows about him is a lie except his feelings for her. Sol is one of the leaders of the insurgent and spends most of this book separated from them, working from the inside. It makes for a suspenseful read.

However as the author flips POV each chapter between Sol and Jez, I found myself getting lost in the time lime. Sol mentions weeks going by but then when we flip back to Jez, no time has passed for her. I found it hard to follow the two characters and separate their time lines. Then towards the end of the book it’s suddenly been a couple of months according to Sol yet for Jez it seems to have been just a few short weeks? I had a hard time reconciling that and it distracted me from the story.

Then the pace of the plot. It starts off with Jez on the run and Sol is trying to catch up to his insurgent friends so he can go with them off the island. It’s fast paced, edge of your seat, just what you would expect. Then for Jez’s chapters, it almost becomes tedious to read. Jez is on a boat to the outlying island, then there’s a lot of talking about whether their plans should continue since Sol was captured. For the most part until near the end, Jez’s chapters don’t add much value to the story. I had to force myself to read them. Sol’s chapters on the other hand are suspenseful and heartbreaking at times. The differing paces for the POV were distracting and hard to read through.

Overall Lake Town was just ok for me. The beginning and ending made up for the stop and go pace of the middle. AND for the most part the storyline was interesting. If you enjoyed Solstice, I recommend you continue with the series. I plan to.

Jez’s secret has been discovered and she goes on the run. Sol helps her get out of the City and to Lake Town. Jez meets back up with Rueben and learns Lake Town is planning on attacking the City. She is all for the attack and helping people learn that truth and get their freedom back. The problem is Sol is still in the City and an attack will surely kill him.

I loved Solstice and couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen in Lake Town. I was not disappointed. Jez escapes the City and is happy to meet up with Reuben but she is torn apart knowing that Sol is still in the City. Sol has been trying to learn everything he can about the Fraction and fighting the Legislature.

There is so much happening in this book. The fight scenes are amazing, there is happiness, love, betrayal, unexpected twists and turns, and an ending that will leave you wanting more. This is a great young adult dystopian series and one that ranks highest on my ever growing list.

I received Lake Town from eBooks for Review for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

After Reading the first book in this series I have to say this one take you on a full on adventure into a world unlike ours while you read this. These authors pull you into a world of confusion and conformity where there are people trying to break the hold the Legislature has on everyone.

Jez or Jezebel is one amazing character. She is very confused and unsure of what to do or who to trust after escaping prison for simply reading her grandmother's journal. But she absolutely blossoms throughout this book and what she has to deal with and go through. She struggles with what will happen to the boy she loves Sol with the actions she has to take to save everyone.

Sol what an adorable sexy strong courageous man that is trying to do what is right but suffering because of not being with Jez. It is just a struggle for him just trying to keep the woman he loves safe but not being able to be with her and know for sure she is safe.

These two authors are an amazing combination, they create this amazing world and each and every character draws you into it.

Lake Town is a great follow up to Solstice! I love YA dystopian books, and Jane Redd (AKA Heather Moore) has really captured the feeling of a futuristic world with this series. The characters are so well written, and you feel their emotions throughout the book.

This doesn't feel like some dystopian books in that it doesn't feel like this has been done before. It is a new outlook on what our world could become. How the government controls society is a scary, yet realistic, thought. The exiled people on the island are so disturbing, yet you can see how they become that way after being cast out of society.

Though I liked the first book better, this one is very good. It just moves more slowly, and I was left feeling like not enough happened. I know there will be more, but I wish there had been a tiny bit more in this one too! Still, it is a super follow-up to the first.

I definitely recommend this series if you are a dystopian fan. This one is a must read!

Lake Town is book 2 in a trilogy. I would definitely recommend reading them in order. There are too many nuances that can't be followed even with the background given in Lake Town.
This book starts immediately after Solstice ends. There is pretty much non stop action & suspense throughout the book. I liked getting introduced to new characters in addition to the people we got to know in Solstice. It was sad to see some of them die in the fighting, but not unexpected.
I am looking forward to book 3. I feel like there are plenty of loose ends to tie up, but the main characters are at least not in limbo like at the end of Solstice.

This is the sequel to Solstice. Jezebel has been smuggled out of the government land and taken to a Lake town where the people are planning a revolution to overthrow the leadership and give people back their freedom and build a contraption to dry up the earth and stop the rains. I don’t want to give away anything from this book or the first book, but just know there is non-stop action, awesome fleshed out characters that work their way into your heart, and great plot twists. I really love this series.

Lake Town is the second book in the Solstice series. It is a YA Dystopian series, and one that young adults and adults alike will enjoy.

This book follows the path of Jezebel James as she is forced to flee her home and seek the mysterious Lake town. As a Carrier, she has a special mission - one that she doesn't know yet but knows that she wants to be part of bring emotion back to the city. Jezebel faces losing everything to gain everything, which wouldn't seem like a hard choice, right? Except when the loss may include losing her best friends - the only family she has left.

This book was quick-paced and entertaining. The world that has been created is fascinating and full of details that keep the book interesting and the story flowing. The characters get a little dramatic, but then I remind myself that they are teenagers and everything makes sense. This was a great book to read. I enjoyed it.

I received this book free with the intention to review, this didn't effect my opinion of the book.
Jezebel James holds the key to the future, she carries the only solution to the worlds flooding problem and she doesn't even know it. Sol's task is to prepare and protect her for that purpose.
Truly a good read this book will hold your interest through to the end. I highly recommend you read it.

But I worried for nothing. Lake Town is fantastic! It's loaded with action, excitement, romance, intrigue, etc. I highly recommend this series. Can't wait for the next book!

Jez is loyal, fierce, and the ultimate Heroine. Living with her emotions her whole life has made her a force to be reckoned with. She has made some friends and allies with Sol, Reuben, Chalice, Jude, Becca, and the Lake Town people. In this book, I was pleasantly surprised at some of the twists. I cannot wait for book 3 to be released!!

Lake Town picks up right where solstice ends. It is non stop action. There were no slow or dull moments. Just go go go! One scene to the next was packed with information or adventure. It pulled me right back into the story and now I am so mad I have to wait until the next book! Great middle Book to this series.

This is a great second book to the Solstice. It continues the plot nicely and keeps the reader turning the pages. It is a clean book for young adults and has a great plot. I can’t wait until the 3rd book is released!

This book was pretty good. It was intense but a little wordy at time. I'm bummed it's a 3 book series. Ugh

Fabulous!! I loved it more than book 1. Can't wait for book 3!! Absolutely love Jez, Sol, and the rest of the characters. Love the setting. Just a wonderful story! Fast paced and action packed. Kept me up 'til 2am. Jane Redd/Heather B. Moore is the best!
