From birth, Avery Foster was destined to be anything but ordinary. When a mysterious storm stirs up over her school, Avery discovers a dark past and a family secret that changes everything as she knows it. All of a sudden, people are out for her blood, immortal blood. With her family by her side, and a boy she’s known since childhood, can Avery overcome all the barriers put in her way and bring about change for a race who has lain dormant for thousands of years?
I read this book so quickly! It was an easy and amazing read. This is the perfect book for those who are fans of The Vampire Diaries or Twilight (I am a fan of both!). I loved the writing and I couldn't put the book down! Avery is such a relatable character - I found myself wondering what I would do if I found out I had special powers and people could read my thoughts! The book was left on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read more !
This was a quick one, however I didn't feel like I missed out on any of the background information that sometimes gets left out in the shorter stories. Fairly typical YA story about a girl who had no idea she was special until one day when everything changed. This series has the potential to make itself stand out among the genre though depending on where the next installment takes us. I have a small issue with the main character in particular. She seemed much younger than she was supposed to be. I had more trouble with this during certain scenes, and it was hard to take her seriously. Rob Saladino was the narrator of the audiobook version. He did a nice job with the voices. Although I had an issue with the main character, I feel it was the way she was written rather than her actual voice. I did enjoy this book regardless of the small issue I had, and I am interested to see what happens in the next one. *I received this audiobook at no cost. These are my honest opinions regardless of that fact.
I wasn't quite sure how I was going to feel about this book. I am not one to typically read science fiction, paranormal, fantasy or any genre that is similar to them. I do read paranormal books every once in awhile, if the synopsis interests me. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed reading book one of the Shaded series.
Avery seems to be your typical teenage girl who seems to have things in her life going quite well with a boyfriend, best friend, loving family until a storm rolls in and turns her world upside down. She will be educated and trained by her family to hone in on her abilities to protect her from those out for her blood.
I recommend you read this book it is a quick read because it will hold your attention and leave you wanting more. I can't wait for book 2! Must read!
I loved this novel. A very unique setting and story, focused on immortals living among humans. It was refreshing to read something other than zombies and vampires, and reminded me of 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' but 10x better with more depth and structure. The immortal history goes far back in time. The first story of the series is clearly focused on character development, explaining the history, setting the pace and building the structure for a series of battles, and the brushing of shoulders with the bad immortals. The characters were extremely entertaining, especially the bad ones who are pretty comical. I really loved the imagery and descriptions. The story also focuses on strong family ties, and relationships, which was really nice. Really awesome read.
I rarely read books in this genre but I really enjoyed the quick pace and snappy dialogue. The story left me wanting to know more about what will happen to the characters, and understand the things about magic that the characters themselves do not yet understand. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I had a little trouble getting in to this book. I would classify it as YA. I think I would have liked it better if the narrator hadn't made Avery sound like she was 10 years old. Because of that I couldn't see in my mind the romance between Avery and Kage. I saw them as little kids. I also found it hard to see the males in this book as tough and rugged, because of the voice of the narrator. The authors did a great job with the story. There is a great deal of suspense and intrigue and a little bit of romance. The ending left me up in the air and I am looking forward to the next book. The authors certainly grabbed my attention and I couldn't stop listening until it was complete. However, the story wasn't complete. I guess I will just have to wait for the next in the series. Although I may change my mind if the narrator is the same. Maybe I will have to get it in book format.
First I must say I won a free copy of this book from author R.E. Danielle and this is the first book I have read from this author. Reading this book its easy to tell that it is setting the story for the next book in the series. There is a little action when having to fight the bad immortals but the main focus of this book is about Avery a seventeen year old girl who learns that she is immortal like her family. The book focuses on the strength of family and on Avery having to train and control her magic. There is a twist that leaves you wanting to jump right into the next book. This is a good read for anyone who likes a good paranormal book but is looking for something other then shifters and vampires. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Shaded: Colored Lies was a pleasant surprise and a strong start to the series. I am not often a reader of paranormal romance, but R.E. Danielle and T.D. Dean have taken a new look at the genre. The plot was well thought out, covering background information as well as character development in a concise manner, without skimping on the action and romance. Although a series, this book provided just enough tantalizing temptations to keep me wanting more, but not feeling like anything was purposely left out to prompt me to have to continue reading with the next novel. I look forward to reading the next installment, and finding out what happens to Avery and Kage!
What a fascinating start to a series! I do love the idea of immortals showing their feelings through their eye colors changing and such, but only being seen by other immortals. This short read is packed with background information so pay attention. It all starts with a love gone awry and then you are in present times with a girl coming into her powers. Things get very complicated for Avery as her powers begin to manifest themselves and she begins to find out about her heritage. I do have to say that at times it feels almost over-crowded with everything going on, but there's no doubt that Avery and her new love interest, Kage, will be forces to contend with.
This story had real promise and I would love for it to go on, it was just too short for the picture it painted. The story is quite the original parnormal story with a soulmate aspect to it. It did a good job at building the world and the type of paranormal (I don't want to say creatures cause they are people but they aren't people cause they have powers right?) beings that were developed but then after you found out more it was just over.
The epilogue hinted to way more of the story and the world that we will be seeing so I hope it's done soon and delivered.
I received this audio book for free for an unbiased review.
What a fabulous PNR read. I enjoyed everything about this book from the setting and characters to the over all feel of the book. A great weekend read that was unique and refreshing. Great start to an amazing series.
Avery is not your regular teenage girl, her world has just changed and she is more than everyone expected. Kage is special to Avery and a very hot character, I'm very excited to see what's next for both of them.
I would recommend this to teens and adults alike. Definitely excited for the next book.
I love soulmate stories. This was no exception. I really enjoyed the writing and concept of this particular book. My only complaint is that it was so darn short. I would really like to read more. It was like an appetizer and missing the main course. I am really looking forward to seeing what comes next! Five glittery stars! Swoon worthy romance!
Love the storyline for Avery. Loved the little adventure you took as you saw her battling to understand her destiny and achieve her training before her transition. Was surprised with the twist. When you think it's going one way and suddenly it flips on you. Well worth the wait. Looking forward to the next instalment
This book was really interesting , intriguing it had my attention. I was really drawn into the story it was not boring at all . I wanted to know what was going to happen next and I love that in a book! Very mystical , magical , fantasy and sweet love story . It was an excellent read . Thank You . I can't wait to read the next in the series !
This was a great book. I'm so glad a friend gifted me a copy of the book. I loved how Avery was brave to face the obstacles that came her way. She's one brave girl
I found this book charming and fun to read, it has a solid premise that is both compelling and well thought out. The main character Avery is likable and you can't help but root for her to succeed. The world with immortals is mysterious and cloaked in mystery, but uncovered layer by layer as the story unfold. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series so I can continue on her journey with Kage and the other immortals.
A new and interesting take on a paranormal romance and I LOVED IT!!! I could not put it down. I am off to purchase book 2 right now! Imagine being lied to your entire life and then finding out you are a magical being! Well, that is exactly what happened to Avery. Now she has to learn how to live with everything she has just found out and more. I can not wait to delve into the second book.
I have to preface this review by saying I am not usually a fan of YA books, however, after reading the first couple of pages on Amazon’s look inside the book feature, I was intrigued.
Avery is a 17 year old girl, who up until the start of the story had lived a fairly ordinary, happy life. All this changes when an unusual storm hits town and with it brings Kage, a mysterious boy whose eyes have the ability to change colour, however, Avery is the only person who can see this.
Kage and Avery have an immediate attraction to each other and as the story unfolds it becomes apparent why and I loved how the relationship between the two of them was developed.
Avery learns that she is not quite as ordinary as she thought herself to be, and she is ‘the Chosen one’ and the key to saving her race.
The pacing of the story was fast, and felt a little rushed, but kept me engaged. The dialogue between the characters seemed choppy at some points which made the storytelling feel awkward at times, and I found myself having to go back and reread certain parts to understand what was happening. I also found myself with several unanswered questions while reading.
However, none of this took away from the fact that the book had an original and extremely interesting premise. I especially loved the beginning of the book and the backstory that was given on the characters; it was beautifully written and it felt like I was reading a Greek Myth.
Overall, I would say this is a great start to what looks to be a promising paranormal series that had a perfect blend of mystery, romance and action.

Wow. This book gripped me right from the very start.. A strange storm rolls in at Avery’s school, leading up to her discovering that she’s an immortal with powers. Not a normal immortal, Avery is the chosen one. Book 1 delves into Avery’s life, showing her slowly come into her powers. I liked the fact that Avery and her family are close, as a lot of books that I’ve read about immortals don’t focus on strong family ties. The writing was so vivid and seemed so real I felt myself being able to truly connect with the book and each character. I sincerely hope book 2 is out soon as I am awful with cliff hangers.. This one has an amazing cliffhanger, I can not wait to read more. A big 5 stars from me!
This is a first read for me by R. E. Danielle and T. D. Dean. I really enjoyed this book. Avery is your normal teenage girl with two siblings. One day at school a strange storm appeared and Avery thought she saw a girl with glowing Aquamarine eyes and a boy with strange orange eyes. No one is who they seem to be ans Avery has to learn that she is transforming and has no idea how to control her emotions or how to handle everything she has just learned. I read this book in a day and a half. I lost tract of time because I wanted to find out about Avery and her kindred. No spoilers so you will have to read this for yourself. I highly recommend this engrossing book. I can't wait for book 2.
Cool concept, great writing, and an incredible start to the series. The authors did a wonderful job of world building and creating characters, that for good or bad reasons, stood out to me. I loved Avery's character - I found her endearing and relatable. The book ends on a cliffhanger, which for me is a plus - it left me wanting to read the second one right away! Paranormal fans, this one is a must read!
First let me tell you that paranormal books are not my go to books, but i've read enough paranormal books some i hated and some made me think , girl you are totally wrong ... Shaded Colored Lies was one of the books that made me actually love this genre . i loved it , it got me hooked from page one .. I loved eveything about it .. Characters .. Plot ... And boy how i loved the writing style. Waiting here for the next one <3
This was an amazing book. I started reading this as soon I received and couldn't put it down. This book only had 118 pages but I loved it. I had a feeling that on person had a role in it somewhere but didn't find out until the end. That was really good. You two did an awesome job. Can't wait for the next book. Please keep us informed when it comes.
