Whilst on duty in Sweetwater, Kai disappears for a couple of days. All his superiors know is that he was with a human female. Based on the limited information he’s disclosed, they suspect that she might have been in heat. This could spell trouble for the vampire species.
The male isn’t talking. He won’t disclose her identity. Won’t say a damned thing. Hopefully there won’t be any comebacks. Hopefully it’s the last they’ll hear of it…
This book can be read as a standalone but would be best enjoyed as a part of the series. No cliffhanger! The story contains strong sexual themes/language and is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
Charlene lives on an acre in the country with her husband, three children and an array of pets including a snake. In her spare time you can usually find her typing away franticly on the computer completely lost in worlds of her making. She is an avid believer that it is the small things that truly matter like the feeling you get when you start reading a new book or a particularly beautiful sunset. Charlene likes to write bite stories her readers can sink their teeth into. Sign up for her latest release newsletter for more information http://mad.ly/signups/96708/join
Welp..... I did end up reading this book today... Not sure how I feel about it yet. *sigh* Couldn't help myself.
_____________________ I would start reading this right now.... but I don't feel like it. I don't know much about this character compared to all the rest in this series. I do know that it has something to do with the dragons. Should've read this series first cause now I'm thinking that I might have low-key spoiled myself.
FANG-TASTICALLY ENTERTAINING !!! Title: A Mate for Kai Series: The Program Designation: Book Six of Series, Standalone Novel, NO Cliffhanger Author: Charlene Hartnady Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited My Rating: FIVE SERIOUSLY SEXY STARS***** It's no secret that I'm a huge Charlene Hartnady fan and love everything she writes but she's knocked it out of the park - AGAIN! Yes, I know I say the same thing every time but it's true. This series just gets better and better with each subsequent release outshining the last. Hartnady totally rocked my world with A Mate for Kai, the sixth riveting release in The Program Series! I was completely enthralled from page one and simply could not stop reading. I became so caught up in this story that I completely lost track of time, the hours passing seemingly as minutes, glued to my screen with my heart stuttering while I gasped for my next breath. Yes, it's that good! Looking for something new, original and unique? Oh my, yes! This story is definitely different! Love fiery passion, steamy sex and dreamy romance? Oh lawd, is it evermore included! Want drama laced with angst? Yup, it has that too. Need lots of sexy, sassy banter? Most definitely! Must have a few plot twists? Well, you're in luck; they're also included! Need a few shenanigans and a little humor? Oh absolutely! Prefer a read with thrills, chills, action, suspense and a lot of bite? You bet! Must be a story that will tug on your heartstrings but still leave you with a silly grin and a serious case of the warm and fuzzies? Absolutely! And most of all, it must be well written and well edited? Of course! Well, look no further - this book has it all. I laughed! I cried! I ranted and shook my fists in anger but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and completely entertained. The author does a fabulous job of including sufficient backstory in each story so the books can all be enjoyed as standalone reads. However, since there is a common underlying interconnected subplot running throughout each book of the series, I highly recommend reading all the books in the order of their release. It's one decision you'll never regret. I think one of the things I enjoy most about Hartnady's books and especially this series, is the fact that all the stories take place in the same world and populated with many of our favorite characters from her previous series appearing throughout all the books. It's no small feat for an author to seamlessly orchestrate, coordinate and integrate each story/series with the other and requires a tremendous amount of work, organization, skill and craftsmanship but Charlene does it flawlessly and somehow manages to make it look simple. I love it! This story is thrilling, fast-paced, cute, fun, romantic, seductive and exceptionally well crafted. Heck, I'm almost 64 and even I want to apply for "The Program." The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with clearly defined alternating his and her points of view from the two protagonists. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed, flows effortlessly and at times, absolutely hilarious. The entire book is extremely well edited which is always a big plus for me. The characters are an absolute joy. They are captivating, fascinating, engaging, endearing, sexy as sin and at times, laugh out loud funny. As I stated earlier, another big plus for me is the recurring appearance of many of the characters from previously released books. It's always a treat to see how our favorite characters are doing. I fell head over heels for both Kai and Ruby, the hero and heroine of this story. I felt they played off each other brilliantly and were absolutely perfect for each other. Their attraction and sexual chemistry was sizzling hot! I felt so sorry for them. Neither wanted to be pressured into a forced mating but they had real feelings for each other and both had to fight their own natures which were so drastically different yet remarkably the same. It was a perfect blend of push and pull between the two unlikely lovers. Charlene skillfully combines all of these elements into a delightfully entertaining tale filled to the brim with side-splitting humor, heart-pounding danger, heart-stopping adventure, heart-wrenching angst, a generous measure of a romping good time and loads of dreamy romance! Where can I sign up for "The Program?"
The premise for this series is quite original and unlike anything I've ever read. I'm not a writer nor professional reviewer but I'll try to give you a brief synopsis: Vampire Kings, Zane and Brant, are now proud papas of a bouncing baby boy named Sam and when they aren't trying to keep Tonya, their human mate and Queen, happy and satisfied, they're both busy implementing their new "Breeding Program" also known as "The Program." What? Breeding Program? Oh yes, I said breeding program. Zane and Brant have learned from Ward, the Alpha of the wolf shifters and Stephany's new mate, that despite their earlier beliefs, humans are strong enough to survive a mating with both shifters and vampires. It seems the shifters have been doing it for years, in secret of course. The Kings have finally embraced this new idea and have been hard at work drawing up the contracts with the human authorities and finalizing the arrangements so that the warriors from their combined covens will now be able to choose human females for mates. Their hard work has finally paid off and they're launching the first stage of "The Program" by advertising for women to volunteer to date/mate a vampire. Huh? Yep, the elite vampire warriors have competed in hand to hand combat to win one of the ten coveted slots in The Program. The winners participated in a three day trial to eliminate anyone that suffers from 'blood lust'. The program has now progressed through the first round and now into the 'second heat' where the men interact/date the second group of human females and yes, that does include sex and blood drinking. Oh my! The human women have been carefully screened and will be monetarily compensated for their participation, even if they aren't chosen to be a mate. Sounds like quite a dangerous and expensive undertaking but unfortunately, one that has become a necessary risk since vampires are becoming extinct. Although it's dangerous for human women to give birth to vampire babies, most female vampires cannot safely birth children at all and have to be sterilized. Sadly, the births resulting from vampire/human unions have been only male. As a result, there's a shortage of viable females thereby creating the problem - they need human women. But not everyone is happy about the new program and one group has already made an attempt on the life of King Zane and several of the human female applicants. So now it seems that not only are the vampires at risk but also anyone involved with The Program may be in danger as well. Oh my goodness!
This story features Elite Vampire Guard Kai who lost out on love in Book Five, A Mate for Lance. It's obvious from the title that Lance got the girl and poor Kai was left out in the cold, but not for long! Kai has worked long and hard for his spot in The Program and wants nothing more than to find a nice human to mate, settle into a happy life with, and hopefully have a few children like several of his fellow vampires. He doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize his slot in The Program which means all other human females not in The Program are strictly off limits. And that especially includes the beautiful human female who seems to be in a bit of trouble at the Sweetwater Beer Hut. They should never have stopped for a drink after delivering the human females back to Sweetwater. Now he feels compelled to help the lovely creature with the hypnotic violet eyes and lush curves. Unfortunately, what Kai doesn't realize is the curvaceous beauty is in a lot more trouble than he could ever imagine and surprisingly, Ruby is not human, she's certainly not helpless but she does need him desperately - just not the way he thinks. And she's willing to do whatever it takes to have him including abducting him, holding him captive and using him for sex, at least for the next two days. What? That's right! And she's strong enough to do it! Oh my! Kai could lose everything, his status as an Elite Guard, his place in The Program and more importantly, he may also risk losing his life. Oh no! Oh yes! Will Kai find the love he so desperately seeks or will he lose everything? We'll see! Here we go again! No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful dragon shifter princess-check! Handsome, sexy, cocky elite vampire guard-check! A very jealous female best friend-check! An arrogant and very infuriating dragon shifter king-check! A wonderful cast of characters-check! Danger, drama, a little angst, dangerous enemies and a new world of shifters-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, adorable humor, steamy sex and a very surprising romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait to see what Hartnady has in store for us next! Deliciously cute, seriously sexy, completely captivating and delightfully entertaining!
So, what didn't I like about this book? Not a darn thing! What did I love about this book? Everything but especially the new race of dragon shifters Hartnady has introduced into the Sweetwater Vampire Kings world. Also the storyline is different, creative and not the same old instant mate, instant love and instantly falling into bed with each other. Well, maybe Kai and Ruby did instantly fall into bed with each other but you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I love it when there is an instant attraction but it's a refreshing change to occasionally shake things up. Would I recommend this book??? You bet and I am but only for adult readers! Will I read this author again? Absolutely, just as soon as she releases her next book! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read.
I've been reading this series for a while, so I kinda know what to expect. What I didn't realize was that the author was going to use this book to open up to a new series. Normally, I don't mind that, but because of the way the story unfolded, I actually said to myself..."Oh, this is a set up for a new series." It was just so blatant.
Anyway...this story was on Kai and Ruby. Ruby is a dragon-shifter (enter new series), while Kai is a vampire. Ruby species is dying, as female dragon-shifters are rare. Her brother, Blaze, the king of the fire dragon-shifters, wants to use Ruby to have a pure blood heir with an enemy clan to create an alliance. Ruby wants to mate for love, not for political reasons. She runs away, and as she is about to go into heat, she meet Kai, and essentially abducts him and has sex with him in order to get pregnant.
She becomes pregnant and Ruby's brother, Blaze, wants to either force a mating between Ruby and Kai or kill him. Kai has no idea that she is pregnant and is pissed when he sees her again (2 months after their "two night stand"). She stays with the vampires through her pregnancy and her and Kai, much to his reluctance, start spending time together and getting closer.
I really didn't like Ruby. She kept making decisions for everyone without considering other people. So she kinda came off as selfish to me. Overall, the book was ok. I've read this series for so long that I will probably continue with the dragon-shifters series too. Not sure if the vampires stories will continue or if this was the last one. We'll see.
I am ADDICTED to this series; I can get enough of this paranormal romantic goodness. With alpha males in all shapes and sizes with Ménage à trois, MFM love triangles (eat your heart out), Vampires, Shifters, and Elves. It is Sexy, it is Sizzling, it is smoking Hot, it is Erotic so much so that it jumps right off the pages and leaves you needing a cold shower. Sassy, headstrong females, and fighting to the death is not uncommon. So, what happens when smoking hot vampires and shifters, mortal enemies want the same thing; this is where things get so interesting, and the fun begins. These men are ruthless, they are vicious, power players, they are violent. There is lots of action, danger and war around every corner but given all that they love fast, they love with their whole heart and make you want to go and find your own. Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, deceit, suspense, drama and love that will leave you breathless. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real. It is not all doom and gloom though there are plenty of witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud. Don’t even stop to think just click and read and tell me I am not wrong. Happy reading!
while this story was totally different than all the previous ones, I was less thrilled. The story got only one mystery, a topic that thrived but it took the whole book to discover it, good except that the end wasn't enough for me. With this one, i don't know about who next in the line, and got a few new characters fire, vamp (binky? can't remember his name)
In the last heat of The Program, Kai had his eye set on winning Amber from Brynn and unbeknownst to him at the time, Lance. Kai figured four was a crowd and gracefully bowed out. Sheesh, ya think?!!
A little while later...
Kai goes off the reservation so to speak, after he is abducted—yes abducted, by a powerful dragon princess and held captive for two days—maybe willingly— before unceremoniously returning to the vampire territory. Somebody’s in trouble!!
Although Kai is severely punished for going AWOL, he still keeps mum about the beautiful dragon with the amethyst eyes even after being booted from The Program and the Elite Warriors, given fifteen lashes and thrown in the dungeon! He’s got it bad!
Girls just wanna have fun...
Ruby goes on a “stag” run to meet a human male and use him strictly as a one night stand. Long story short, once she and Kai lock eyes it’s on! They both believe the other to be only human and Ruby continues with her hidden agenda leading Kai down a path with no return to normalcy. The pair part ways never to see each other again. Who are they kidding?!
The egg in the room...
Kai is floored when he sees Ruby again and meets Ruby’s brother Blaze, the Dragon King, who gives him the ultimatum of mating his sister or death. Shotgun wedding much?!
This story was really fun and hard to put down. Kai may just be my favorite vamp!
A Mate for Kai: The Program Book 6 By Charlene Hartnady Kindle unlimited purchase Ruby is a fire dragon princess, her gram died a little love a month ago, now her brother the fire King is wanting her to mate Air King Thunder who she has no feelings for. So she does the one thing she can think of, she goes to a local bar and finds a human to spend time with during her heat. Kai is an elite he has worked hard to be where he is in doing so is kings have given him the honor of escorting the remaining human females back to their homes. Kai and the rest of the vampires decide to stop off at a local bar on the way back to vampire territory. When he walks in he sees this female he can't take his eyes off of. When he noticed that she was in trouble he couldn't stop himself he had to help her out and in doing so he has unknowingly set his fate. This plot as been done over and over in romance books. The Princess is made to marry a man she does not know/love so she runs and falls in love with a man that comes to her "rescue". But this book is nothing like them. No cookie-cutter romance here. I do recommend readers over the age of 18 because of the sexual contact. Book 7 here I come!
Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book six of seven of The Program series. (Set in the same world The Chosen Series)
Have you ever wanted to date a vampire? Human women required. Must be enthusiastic about interactions with vampires. Must be willing to undergo a stringent medical exam. Must be prepared to sign a contractual agreement which would include a non-disclosure clause. Limited positions available.
Whilst on duty in Sweetwater, Kai disappears for a couple of days, and all his superiors know is that he was with a human female. Based on the limited information he’s disclosed, they suspect that she might have been in heat. This could spell trouble for the vampire species and the male isn’t talking, he won’t disclose her identity, and won’t say a damned thing. Hopefully there won’t be any comebacks, and hopefully it’s the last they’ll hear of it. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
A Mate for Kai takes the reader to the most amazing moments of an inter species relationship. Once again, a woman who knows what she wants and is ready to go for it takes the scene. I am serious about it. She abducts her man and uses him for days. And he loves it. The surprises do not stop when Kai gets to know her species. She is not supposed to exist, but she took him to the highest of pleasures and his battered car testifies she was real. Kai has a noble heart and refuses to tell his kings the truth of the story. There will be hell to pay, but he is strong and determined. Taking and telling is not his game. The vampire fast discovers he will have to go way beyond keeping his silence when her very dangerous and very angry brothers appear. The inter species event shakes the castle. Nobody is ready for that. Kai is not either. The plot is full of twists and the story is sweet. The kindness and honor of this vampire is touching. Kai is a real hero. I love every vampire in Charlene's world. Kai is one among the best.
I originally liked Kai from Lance's book so I was looking forward to reading his book. I've been reading this series back to back for the past few days. And I love each book more than the other its like I can't stop I have to keep on reading. I've read the dragons series when they first came out along with the ferals and the demigods. It was the excerpt at the end of lord of tears that made me start on this reading Marathon and I gotta say I'm sorry that I didn't read it earlier on. I love this author 's vivid imagination and the way her mind works is amazing . I love how she easily transports you into the world of vampires and dragons . Ruby and Kai's book was perfect I was sucked into reading it until it finished.
The sixth book in The Program series was entrancing. Ruby is one strong female on the hunt for a mate. Kai is very strong vampire just having a drink out some fellow vamps. How was he to know he would get swept off his feet, literally. I have seriously fallen for this series and am cheerfully awaiting Titans' story. Reading her previous stories is not needed but I highly recommend your read them for the background and the true enjoyment of her books.
I was fascinated by this very unique storyline. Ruby was such a intriguing character and, she made such a significant impression on Kai at their first meeting that sparks were bound to fly between them. Adding this new non-human to the mix of other supernaturals in the area was a breath of fresh air and added so much interest to the story. I enjoyed learning all about Ruby's abilities and characteristics as a shifter. This was a very captivating tale and I can't wait to read more. This very fast read deserves Five Big Stars!!!!!
I loved this story cover to cover, something fierce!! Daayyuuum Kai! Loved the name! Ruby as well. That initial scene with them together was volcanically smoldering. Well hello!, of course! If ya’ll have not read any of these amazing series, You👏🏼are👏🏼missing👏🏼out👏🏼, like👏🏼 fuck👏🏼!
Get you some of these books and hunker down for fun, juicy passion, funny and hilarious!
Oh Brant and Zane!!! The Kingdom you have under your belts and your amazing growing coven! A melting pot of amazing. 🤩
A really good book in this series it has a lot going on to keep your interest, the first introduction of Dragon shifters Ruby a Dragon princess making a decision to try and make a difference to her dying breed. Kai an Elite Vampire guard bamboozled by her scent and her beauty tricked into getting her pregnant a rocky road they have to travel to realize they want to be together but all works out in the end. A really entertaining book.
Kai doesn’t stand a chance. Ruby is about to go into heat and she doesn’t want her brother to make her mate with someone she doesn’t know or love. So she steals Kai and gets impregnated with the intention to not tell him and raise the child on her own. But of course that’s not how it goes and Kai is mad at her for not telling him. No her brother wants to force her into mating with Kai. Ah but they do things their own way and what a great story it makes.
Surprise the human she kidnapped wasn't a human at all, he was a Vampire. What a great surprise, loved as the story goes with wondering if she would have a egg or baby. I hope the next story of this series is just as good. I wished they were Audible because it gives it better sound.
I am total devouring each story in this series – I can’t seem to get enough of them, this series keeps getting better with each story. Now we have dragons - Oh boy - hope I enjoy them as much as the vampires.
Just as good as all the rest in the series, although the mixed up dates is a little confusing, I could swear that I read in another earlier book that Becky had already had her kid... but I read A LOT so I’m probably mistaken lol
Yup, Dagon shifter and Vampire love... Who knew. This story opened up a whole new species to the world Charlene Hartnady created. It is really a great love story between Kie & Ruby and welcomed another group of Charas into the mix. DanaLynn
What can I say, I really enjoyed this book but it’s not hot as the others I can only give it four stars. I enjoyed the characters and the introduction to the dragons was good but it was missing something
A Mate for Kai, book 6 of Charlene Hartnady's The Program series brings in the dragon shifters. What could possibly to wrong when one of the only dragon females falls for a vampire? The ride is explosive to say the least.
I get her but man so many lies. She needs to do better. Poor Zane and Brant they need to leash their elites not one of ‘em knows how to follow rules. This was such and interesting couple.
The female deception in this is not my thing...males, absolutely, just not females. Otherwise it was a nice twist to have a dragon shifter that was stronger than the vampires and both characters were real and sweet.
The I didn’t know you were pregnant baby daddy story line you trapped me was great. I enjoyed the will they or won’t they end up together story was also good. Kai and Ruby characters were perfect. Especially the empowerment of woman line as well.
I love this series, like the chosen series, someone finds their mate in every book. They are all quick good reads so far. Also, the sex scenes are great!
