I was born in 1968 in Mineral Wells, Tx. I have lived all across the country:Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Alaska, and finally Missouri. I have worked as a Disc Jockey, Bookstore manager, Cook, and bowling alley attendant. I have a Telecommunication degree and a Culinary degree. I was a history major before I discovered multimedia. Gardening and cooking is my passion. My wife and I live outside of St Louis, Missouri. I have always been a Huge fan of Science Fiction and fantasy I bring my love of the genre to my writing. I'm a first time writer.
Very obviously the work of a newcomer. Written in a disjointed style, many scenes fail to become more than loosely integrated into the narrative. Mostly show rather than tell and, of course, the obligatory slew of grammatical and lexical errors so common amongst independent authors who lack the benefit of a competent editor. In view of the author's improvement in some of his latest books, however, this bumpy start seems pardonable.
I think I got an unedited version by mistake. First fifteen pages: subject/verb agreement, run-on sentences, pronoun errors, misplaced modifiers, wrong words, tense issues.
If you're into classic space opera type stories, then this is what you need. Athens Lee is a recent engineering graduate and is on her first assignment, one that should have been fairly safe but turns into a real mess. Before she knows it she's the only survivor of a space battle in a partially constructed base in an asteroid belt. Over the next 15 years she creates an incredible base using scavenged material from the wrecked ships in the area. Then she is found....
Stories like this are fun because the main character is always able to find a way to come out on top. Is it realism? No! But it's fun.
I can't get enough of Athena Lee. She is a brilliant engineer as well as a competent leader. The books in this boxed set tell how she spent 15 years in space by herself, dodged assassins, and fought her first major battle in space as Chief Engineer. I am looking forward to her further adventures very much.
These are light weight space opera with simple plots but enjoyable characters.
Feels a little underdone, but as starter novels the author is just getting into a writing style. Annoying boxed set by having too lay excerpts from her non sci fi series interwoven in the box.
I rarely read space scifi, but these are just extraordinary. I live the little bits of pop culture that show up in the ship names. My favorites so far are The Jethro Gibbs and The Wang Chung.
Lots of grammer mistakes , story flies along at warp speed love Athena she's completely nuts!!!!!! Noticed Paul picked names for things from tv shows!!!! This is a really good book collection that you have to read now!!!! This would make an amazing tv series???!!!
Enjoyed the characters in these 3 stories and the story itself. They could have done with more editing to fix the grammar mistakes. Also, it got confusing trying to determine from whose perspective the story was being told. Will see how the other ones go.
If you can't stand an editing nightmare don't read these books. Any of them. They read like a first draft from that standpoint. Also, they are in first person from the main characters point of view, but third person whenever there is a scene without her present or we are seeing things from another characters point of view.
If, however you love good old fashioned sci-fi with characters you can relate to, action you can follow and not a lot of techno mumbo jumbo, then by all means read to your hearts content.
Do be aware that Athena's love interest, who we first meet in the third story, is female. In the books I have read so far the relationship is low key with nothing more that a couple of quick kisses.
This was a spur of the moment read, having just read the Conjuring Quantico books. However, it couldn't be more different. It starts off like Robinson Crusoe and quickly turns into a fairly good space opera. What lets it down, however, is the extremely poor grammar and punctuation. I don't particularly rate a book down for the odd error, but this is difficult to read in places. One time the sentence was completely mangled, making very little sense. I originally rated this as a 2, but bumped it up a star for being available on Kindle Unlimited.
I can't really recommend this book in its current state. However, with a good proof reading, it could be worth a look in the future.
Was looking for a kwik simple read, and this fit the bill. A simple storyline with some amusing interactions between characters. Simplistic enough for younger readers to enjoy. Starts off with to much "I this" and "I that" but once the setting clarifies, that can be understood. What the first two books do need is some major editing; the grammatical errors and typos are very distracting. Other than that, one must be careful when paraphrasing Star Wars in a sci fi book...the word change in the Death Star quote took away from its impact. All in all, a pleasant distraction for a few hours; I'm sure I'll be reading the next books somewhere down the line.
Great story line however I would like to see the middle of the pig. This seems to go from squeal to curly tail and leaves out the barbeque. The author sure knows how to throw a hook though. Fascinating, I look forward to reading more. It reminded me of White's Hospital General series.
Much better version then the first edition. As others said book 1 was the very first book that the author had written, and hadn't had it proofed before publishing the book. The book's been edited since then at least once, and reads a lot better then before, and has more content. The series is scheduled to go through the editors again in the future.
I read all three of these books in less than a week, after work. The story flows so well and the action moves so fast that you can't help but want to read just a little more. Looking forward to the next book and the next and the next....
The story itself is interesting, but the spelling and grammar errors are a drawback. From book one to book three the story telling gets better so I have hopes for the other volumes.
