5 Stars!!! Re-read 5/24/2019 Loving the series all over again! WoooHooo!!! Just seen this up for preorder! Can't wait to continue this series! Hurry up May 5th!
Do not read this book unless you've read the first five books because you will probably tear your hair out! If you have followed this series so far then prefer to buckle up as its an awfully bumpy ride. I found myself casting my mind back as to who was who, who did what and just what on earth was happening here. This book isn't perhaps as obviously romantic as others as its all about the machinations and complex storylines that all start to collide here. If honest I wanted more from the beginning as for this reader it was painfully full of angst and I couldn't quite see where the arc was going and then bam ! The second half just took off , yes I got answers but boy did I get a whole lot more. So much happened here that I'm still kind of reeling from shock. It felt more like an ensemble piece , almost urban fantasy rather than paranormal romance as the central couple Jask and Phia came to terms with the recent changes in their lives, well Phia's in particular . There's no softly softly approach and some scenes are hard to take in but if you enjoy vampire and shifter books then this craftily plotted series will have your jaw dropping! Just two more books to go but finally we start to see who the real bad guys are and that there might even be a little redemption due. Speaking of bad guys this is not sweet fantasy but truly nasty characters are running amok with an ending that even though we are neither shifter nor vampire will leave everyone gnashing their teeth! I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of Blood Instinct in exchange for an honest review
There are no spoilers in the following review, but for those anxiously waiting for 5th May to continue their journey through the amazing world of Blackthorn, all I have to say is "Buckle up and hang on for dear life" because you are in for a rollercoaster of a ride.
This book focuses on the continuing story of Jask and Phia, first discovered in Blood Torn (Blackthorn #3), but all of our heroes/heroines make an appearance at some time. You can really see the threads of the story coming together now, and the set up for book 7 and the finale, book 8 are all there, just waiting to be tugged on.
By page 2, I was tugged back in the wonderful world of Blackthorn that Lindsay J Pryor has woven. No longer was I sitting in my living room reading a book. No, I was a part of that world, a voyeur of sorts, watching it all unfold before me.
There are so many twists and turns in this book and I can honestly say, I never saw any of them coming. This isn't like one of those books where the author holds up a big sign and says "Look here". The shocks come thick and fast and hit you on the side of the head without warning.
One of the most thrilling parts for me was to see the growth in character, particularly of Phia, who really comes into her own in this book. She's still feisty and frustrating as hell at times, but her character arc is a joy to watch.
I can't really say any more without giving away pieces of the plot, but one thing I will add is this..... Feinith......your evilness knows no bounds.
Go and pre-order your copy now and get ready to put up your "Do not disturb" sign on 5th May.
**This is a series you have to read in order** This is the 6th book from the series Blackthorn, this one follows Jask and Sophia again. First off Jask and Phia are one of my favorite couples in the series. Loved them in this story also. Their attraction, the love, the sex (but I do admit I was a little bit disturbed about the way it progressed "the flashbacks" while they were getting it on, yes I know what was happening but it so HOT with Jask and it felt tainted! And it was Hot, I kinda liked when he was bringing the Lycan side of himself into the mix) everything about them is great. But as we ended the story I felt they didn't get their HEA as Kane and Caitlin did in the previous book. It felt to me it was still unresolved the way it ended. So now I am wondering if there will be a 3rd book about them. Because I love them that's why!
I do admit though Phia needed slapped when she "escaped" I did NOT see what she/and that bitch Fenith did coming. I cried. I was so distraught. (I always read these books away from people, like my family, they will think I am F'ing nuts - crying, talking to the book, yelling, etc.)
Lots of stuff happened. Twists, turns, WTF, crying, etc etc. Some really really emotional moments. Action. The continuation of the brewing war (which is interesting). Every time I read one of these books in the series I feel so damn drained, every emotion (I swear!) gets trampled on, thrown up in the air, run through a grinder, etc. Now I sit here and am wondering when the next book is coming out cause I needed it yesterday! UGH the wait is soooooo long.
I was gifted this book via the publisher for an honest review
OMG...I was going crazy after Blood Dark but after reading Blood instinct i am crazy!!! What on Earth was this book...amazing dosen t cover it. Damn i wanted to scream to the characters tough all the book. I was like ''NOOOOOOOOO you can t do that'' or ''come one now really don t please just don t'' and don t make me start on the ending. I have no more nails! That s that simple. PLEASEEEE somone please tell me that the next book is to coming out next week!!!
Thrilling, Touching, Suspenseful, Brilliantly Crafted…. And that's just the beginning…. Blood Instinct is the 6th installment in the Blackthorn series by the brilliant author, Lindsay J Pryor.
I initially came across Lindsay through a random Amazon search & I haven’t been disappointed once with this series; I only wish there were more, more, more books in this series. I could read it constantly. In fact, I have re-read the books many, many times. Okay, enough gushing, below is my review of Blood Instinct.
**may contain possible spoilers, but not full plot exposure**
If you like Vampires, Lycans, romance, power struggles, great plot twists, and fantastic character profiles, then this is the series for you! Blood Instinct does not disappoint!! The book picks up right where Blood Dark left off. The sisters are together again, along with Jask and his pack, Kane & Eden; They are all trying to figure out what to do next regarding the prophecy, the Higher Order & the Global Council.
The Serryn is getting increasingly stronger (and darker) in Phia (is she still Phia or is she the Serryn; who is she), while the Alpha is coming out more uncontrollably in Jask. Will they be able to survive together, or will this pull them apart? Leila still maintains that she just needs to see/speak to Caleb to help sort out the issues, and try to get him on their side; but the powerful Master Vampire, Kane, & the pack's Alpha, Jask, are refusing to let her go to see him.
Fennith continues to plot and manipulate; creating the intense desire in me to want to reach into the book and slap her!! Sirius has locked down Blackthorn and sent in his goons (by which I mean, army) creating more issues our main 'pack' has to deal with on top of all the personal struggles they face in this book.
All this is just a small sampling of the drama, tension, and unpredictable jaw-dropping plot twists that Lindsay has created for book 6.
This book, and series, is a MUST read! You will not be disappointed but you might need some tissues!!
Before you read this, make sure you've read 1-5 first. I made the mistake of thinking this was a standalone so I was quite confused for the first half of this book. Once I learned all the characters and the jist of what was going on, I got hooked! This book was jammed packed of action. Vampires, Lycans, mutated cloned Lycans, witchs, humans and I think an Angel are all battling against a prophecy. There's war within wars. You will definately not be bored with this series and now I need to go back to book one and see what I missed!
ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Blood Instinct is probably the best book of the series thus far. It has everything in it that you could want in an Adult Urban Fantasy book which happens to be my favorite genre. The previous five books in the series have definitely had a more PNR vibe to them as the focus has mainly been on the featured couple with mentions here and there of over-arching plot conflicts; however, in Blood Instinct the ball is finally rolling into everyone's court. Besides Jask and Phia, we also get chapter POV's from Feneith, Sirius, Rob, and Caleb which is awesome. The multiple POV's gives us an almost 360 view because we definitely have more of a feel for what is going on, on all sides of this war that is brewing. We're better able to understand various schemes and plans that are developing and different character motivations, and you feel less left in the dark as a result.
Though our eyes are opened, this book still effectively manages to drown us in darkness; if you thought Blood Dark was the darkest yet of the series….
Blood Instinct is like Blood Dark on steroids- Blood Dark 5.0 (that's right, there is no transition first to 2.0, it just goes straight up to 5.0). There is so much angst in this book so much so that I'll give you a brief preview of what to expect from the entirety of Blood Instinct right here:
Now, I'll get into the basic summary that I feel is spoiler free- no big revelations revealed that you wouldn't be able to surmise for yourself- and you'll see for yourself why I say that this book is angst-ridden.
So, Blood Instinct picks up right from where Blood Dark left off. We have all the Mackay sisters together, Jask and his pack, Jessie and Eden, and Kane and Caitlin. With the Blue Moon quickly approaching, Jask and members of his pack that were the last ones to take medication that would keep them from fully morphing are at serious risk of the medication failing them. While Jask, being an alpha has much more self-control over his morphing abilities, he still has the alpha side of him that doesn't have to fully come out to put those around him at risk, especially when it comes to Phia since she's human.
Adding to this stress is that caused by the fact that Phia's inner serryn is growing stronger, and with each passing day, poor Phia is starting to recognize less and less of who she is as the serryn in her tries to take control.
And this serryn is a very dark and quite nasty being who cares little for those it may hurt to get what it wants which is the death of all vampires, especially the impending Tryan. And, when I say dark, I mean dark- a serryn will deceit, manipulate, or flat out kill anything that stands in its way from being able to accomplish its goals. I thought Caleb was over zealous in his hatred of serryns in Blood Roses, but now that I have a better understanding of how they operate, I completely understand why it was such a struggle for him to trust Leila.
With both Jask and Phia having these internal struggles, be prepared for major angst when it comes to their relationship as emotions are running high and the alpha and serryn that are trying to dominate each of them are throwing a major wrench into their relationship. In trying to stay in control while also trying to protect each other from themselves, there is major emotional push and pull constantly happening between them:
Besides both Phia and Jask having internal battles with their darker selves, they and the rest of the company are freaking out as Sirius has blocked off all exits of Blackthorn and basically surrounded the city with an army that could be just days away from launching a fall out attack against the city. There is also much conflict within the group as the subject of whose side Caleb is on is still very much up for debate. While Leila is doing what she can to help the group learn more about various fourth species that are still showing up around Blackthorn, she is determined to get back to Caleb and keep her promise to him. However, she and Alisha are both completely blocked from getting back to the Dehain brothers as everyone else is still set in the belief that Caleb can't be trusted and that he has to be working with Feneith; likewise, they feel that somehow he has deceived or manipulated Leila and that he couldn't have possibly let her go at the end of Blood Roses because he has feelings for her. This disagreement creates a divide between Phia and her two other sisters that does nothing to help Phia when she is feeling more vulnerable than ever due to the internal battle she is fighting with the serryn inside of her. There are other revelations revealed that threaten to fracture this team even further throughout the book, but I'll leave those for you to discover on your own.
As if all of this was not a lot, we have a ton of other important stuff happening in the book. We still have the threat of the prophecy being fulfilled looming over our heads, and with Phia's serryn becoming more and more difficult to contain, who knows if the team will be able to keep her and Caleb from finding each other. We have Sirius who is determined to find Jessie and Kane so that he can accomplish soul transference and harvest more angel tears. We have Feneith who is trying to get Caleb to accept his position of Tryan, and we have Rob who is still Sirius's main general using Sirius's army again to raise hell for Jask and his pack who already are under stress as a result of taking their herbs late.
If you think this all isn't crazy enough, I'm just scratching the surface here, because OMG, this book has so many plot twists in it that serve to create conflicts and bring so much new ammunition to the game each team is playing on both sides of the table that you don't even know what is going to come next while you're reading. This was probably my favorite thing about Blood Instinct. There are probably at least 4 plot twists that I never saw coming while I was reading.
See, the thing is, is that there is so much going on simultaneously that when you begin to get hints of things that might be coming, you're not even paying attention to what they might be hinting towards because your focus is on something else.
Plot twists I did not see coming:
However, this never becomes too overwhelming or annoying. Lindsay does an excellent job of balancing things so that readers aren't left feeling as if 1) there's a ton of things to keep track of OR 2) that there's a ton of new conflicts being revealed without any resolution. I make a point of saying this because I literally just read a book earlier this year, Feverborn, where a ton of brand spankin' new plot conflicts were introduced in the book that ended up having no resolutions; this was extremely frustrating since I went into reading the book already having a ton of questions to previous conflicts that had yet to be resolved and STILL weren't resolved by the time the book ended. With Blood Instinct, we have the perfect balance between questions that are answered that we've had from previous books and new questions that we will have to wait to find answers to in future books.
So on top of this book being dark, angst-ridden, and unpredictable, it is suspenseful as well; and, you definitely don't want to underestimate or make assumptions about either the good guys or the bad guys because everyone in this game is ruthless in their own right when it comes to the ones they love or getting what they want. And, within this book, both sides will definitely have their triumphant wins, as well as devastating losses that often will be directly related to each other. When I consider this aspect of the book, this seems to be the perfect gif to insert:
By the time you reach Blood Instinct's end, you will have experienced every single feeling on the emotional spectrum because this book is a rollercoaster of a ride. And, the thing is, is that this is just the beginning of the war that is still to come, but oh, is it quickly coming. And who will be the winner in the end? Well, only time will tell.
With that, I'll leave you with one final gif to perfectly describe the last feeling we're left with *smiles a cheshire cat grin*
Tips While Reading: 1) Have a drink ready because you're going to feel like an emotional wreck while reading the book
2) Be sure to read away from the public eye as you may appear to outsiders as having bipolar disorder in that your reactions to this book will be drastically changing on a near constant basis.
Seriously, it will feel like you're going from THIS:
TO THIS:
In under 60 seconds.
Now, of course, I have to end my review with things I'm dying to discuss. I would say 'be still my beating heart' - except my heart seemed to have left my chest several chapters in and hasn't been seen since. I believe Jask may have it.
In Blood Instinct we revisit Jask and Phia. Jask Tao, my favourite lycan leader, has to protect his pack and his serryn mate, Sophia McKay, from those determined to end the prophecy and those as equally determined to bring it to fruition. Except life in Blackthorn is never easy, particularly when on the cusp of a blue moon - a time most difficult for lycans. And more so when their limited meds seem to be ineffective.
Phia seems to be losing hope, but Jask needs her to fight, to stay 'them' despite the odds stacking against them and secrets being spilled that could affect the fragile alliances between the third species. Not to mention Sirius Throme and Feinith, who are lurking in the background, eagerly awaiting the downfalls of the Blackthorn key players. But there is a fight building inside Phia - the serryn in Phia is rising. The blue moon ignites Jask's lycan instincts. With a serryn fighting for control and a lycan clawing for release - will they lose themselves and each other? There's a battle ahead and twists of fate that place Blackthorn and the prophecy on a knife edge of balance.
I have never read a book with such a beautifully crafted plot. It's a thrill a minute with plot twists I never expected. Imagine binge watching every finale of The Walking Dead, multiply the tension by a hundred and you're a bit closer to imagining life during Blood Instinct. And my cry-o-meter was off the charts! My goodness, this book has all the feels and feel I absolutely did. Tremendously!
Blackthorn just got darker and much more compelling. All credit to Lindsay J. Pryor for setting such a remarkable pace with each book. Not once has the plot faltered. I have no idea where the finale will end in this battle of souls and shadows. Who will survive? I really don't know. Will I survive the end? Debatable. But I do know I will be there, hanging on to each magnificent word.
Blood Instinct, the sixth book in The Blackthorn series has just blown me away! Thinking about what to put in my review has me both smiling and reaching for the tissues again. This book has it all, a true roller coaster of emotions, with twists and some very unexpected inspired turns throughout. How I feel about it is very hard to put into words, but I absolutely loved it and recommend it to everyone!
Blood Instinct in the main revolves around Jask, Phia and the Lycan pack. The blue moon is upon them and the effects of taking the much required herbs late are very apparent. However, there was so much more to the book as all the players were on the board (there is a great reference to the game of chess). I can't tell you how despicable some of "baddies" were, they reached new levels of evil, but there were definite signs that retribution is on it's way! I loved Caleb in this and can't wait to see how he deals with certain events and the prophecy.
I thought the previous book Blood Dark was aptly named, but here there was a high level of angst, action, tension and darkness that kept me gripped tightly on the edge of my seat. There are a few scenes that left me breathless, wondering what the hell just happened. One in particular was heartbreaking, but the strength and compassion shown by Jask made me fall for him even more (if that's possible!). Phia's growth as a person was exceptional as she struggled with the effects of her serrynity. Eden's sense of humour also appeared at just the right times to relieve the tension.
I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I will finish by saying, this is far from your typical flowers and chocolates romance, but shining through the darkness there is without doubt a whole lot of passion and love. I adore how this series takes me away from reality to a place that seems very real, a place I would love to be able to go and be a part of this fabulous story. Lindsay J. Pryor, the depth, depravity and detail of the Blackthorn world shines through and I am really looking forward to the next instalment, Blood Bound.
I will start by saying if you have not read the previous books in this series I would advice reading them first, otherwise you will be lost in the back alley's of Blackthorn with some unsavoury characters.
Blood Instinct brings us back to Jask & Phia but don't worry, you'll still find Kane & Caleb in there too. It is as complex & intricate as we've come to expect from Lindsay's books & let me tell you it will leave your nerves in tatters with its sharp twists & WTF moments.
I have loved this series since it popped up as a recommendation from Amazon and will always recommend to friends, family (even strangers on the street).
**I received an advance copy from the publisher for an honest review**
In my review of the last Blackthorn instalment, Blood Dark, I made a point of declaring that it was Lindsay’s best work to date and that no doubt, I’d be saying the same thing for the next release and guess what? Yup. I was right. I’d love to say that I hold some supernatural psychic abilities to predict the future and THAT’S how I knew the sixth instalment in the series would be the best yet, but I’m afraid it has more to do with Lindsay’s talent and far less to do with my superhero spidey senses. The plain facts are that Lindsay is to writing, what Helen Mirren is to acting – a freaking do-no-wrong goddess!!!
Having been a fan since Blood Shadows, I don’t think I could ever have predicted just how the story would unfold. For me, it’s gone from a dark and gritty paranormal romance set in the dangerous backstreets of a fictional world, to something that has reached epic proportions, where the sizzling relationships between our characters sits alongside key themes of social inequality, segregation, prejudice and supremacism. Now I know that might seem a little heavy for your average PNR, but the facts are that Blackthorn has NEVER been your average PNR and I believe, it’s part and parcel of what has kept me desperate for more after each release. What’s intrinsically powerful about Blackthorn is that it creates incredible empathy and passion in its readers – the world that Lindsay has created in Blackthorn, with its devilish politics, power plays and twists, had made a massive difference to the allure of the series and Lindsay’s world-building skills, in my opinion, are not praised nearly enough. Yes, we know she can write captivating characters. Yes, we know she can write hot scenes to rival JR Ward. Yes, we know she can inspire FEELS by the bucketload. But it’s the world that she has created behind all that, which provides the whole backdrop to the story – this is what makes it so blooming REAL. Quite frankly, open up a Lindsay J Pryor book, and you’re opening up a three-dimensional feast for the senses and if you’re going to step into that world, well, you’d better be prepared to start running because the action in Blackthorn never stops.
This is definitely the case with Blood Instinct. Back to everybody’s favourite lycan, Jask Tao (he’s certainly mine!) and his partner Sophia, we find Jask battling to prevent his pack from being unjustly slaughtered by the powerful political forces at work in Blackthorn, while Sophia is battling forces of a very different kind. I loved the dark turn their relationship took in this book, it was at times difficult to stomach but captivating none-the-less, when being together became far more risky for them – Jask and Phia have always been effortlessly hot, but Blood Instinct takes things to a much darker and more gut-wrenching level. Combined with the ever present threat of the vampire prophecy and the sinister presence of the fourth species lurking in the shadows, the action in this book was so exciting and so thrilling that I almost wished I could strap myself in, just in case I fell off the sofa in shock of it all. In fact, I’m not even sure how I managed to reach the end without turning blue and passing out, because I definitely felt I should be holding my breath throughout!
As usual, I’m not going to say too much else regarding the plot, mainly because by book six, it’s REALLY hard to discuss without hitting everyone around the face with big fat spoilers, so I’ll just say that if you want an intoxicating read that will leave you breathless and reeling for days afterwards, then Blood Instinct is the book for you.
Just don’t forget the safety harness.
Five beautiful big glittery stars for this wickedly wonderful read!
Omfg!!! How does Lindsay do this everytime?!? I am being rhetorical, btw! This was epic. Period. ____________ This review first appeared on Gaga Over Books.
Time to review the sixth book, Blood Instinct, people.. My reviews for the previous books are here, here and here.. We are only left with two books now. I have a feeling we might be getting even more books in this world. I dunno. Gah. We are soo close. And it is getting so harder to review each book with passing time cos every book is soo great so far and just, I only have nice things to say about it.
You know I love this series and I have loved this series more and more with each new book. And now we are only left with two books which makes me kinda sad in contrast to how happy I was that there were 4 more books. But alas this series is going to end and I will miss these characters. I still love this series because every time with each instalment Lindsay ante's up the game.
Jask and Sophia handle some pretty serious stuff this instalment along with the rest of our cast. I thought the beginning or shall I say the first half of this book was a bit slow as compared to how things were at Blackthorn. I dunno how to explain it cos it was all logical how the pacing was but in my head I thought things should have been more fast paced. I loved loved the second half of the book. And that ending.
We got to witness so many revelations and soo many plot twists--the meandering path that this book drew based on the previous books and the upcoming books set the whole thing on fire. I have already told y'all Lindsay writes some crazy good stuff--she knows what she's doing.. She is handling everything so smoothly and I dunno how everything will play out at the end cos Lindsay sure is a genius writer.. So gahhh.. Be prepared to get shocked and what not cos the pendulum that began swinging when I started this instalment hit it's mark by the end of it..
So, after reading this instalment I think my favorite couple is Caleb and Leila. And they are not our narrators for the next book. Tehehe.
We already know the title of the next book.. Blood Bound and we might be getting it later this year, I think.. I hope we do.. Anyway, these last four instalments had multiple POV's and we got to see the inner workings of almost every nook and cranny of Blackthorn..
I am more nervous now for how everything will play out.. Gosh, I so want to see this world on TV.. Goodness..
Special thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley and Lindsay.
Lindsay J. Pryor's latest in the Blackthorn series will have your pulse pounding and blood racing from start to finish (who needs a gym?). ;) Though this is true for all of her books, her latest, Blood Instinct has it in spades! Blood Instinct is the 6th in the Blackthorn series - a PNR set in the dark and gritty urban fantasy world of Blackthorn where the 1st species (humans) are segregated from the 3rd species (vampires, lycans) in a controlled, stratified society. The series features four different yet hot leading men (2 vampires, a lycan, and an enhanced human)...they provide a flavor for every taste...and they are all delicious. These are paranormal romance, after all, and you won't be disappointed...there is plenty of that! With an action-packed plot line that arches over the entire series, you need to start with Blood Shadows (book 1), but trust me, you'll catch up to the latest book in no time! They are that addictive and compelling.
** Spoilers for Book 6 if you have not read Books 1 - 5 **
This 6th story delves into the heated yet precarious relationship between lycan pack leader Jask and his human love-interest, Phia. This is a dangerous time for lycans, where the blue moon will incite their possessive nature and their raw strength could be deadly for any mate. For Phia, her new Serrynity (vampire-killing witch ability) is threatening not only her & Jask's relationship, but their very lives. To make matters worse, as they each try to restrain their inner natures from inciting each other, the dark forces that control the society are rising to crush the 3rd species in a cataclysmic war that could leave both sides devastated. Twists and turns keep the story suspenseful and unpredictable...the stakes escalating and the characters believable and evolving. I have never read such a series that grabs your heart and won't let go, from one story to the next...the exhilarating rush while reading makes real life seem pale and I cannot wait to escape into Blackthorn again and again. Like Scheherazade, Lindsay J. Pryor spins a tale that keeps you mesmerized and has you begging for more. Book 7 isn't even out yet and it's already on my to-be-read list!
I was gifted this book via the publisher for an honest review.
This book is the sixth instalment from the Blackthorn Series, I think it is important to read the previous books so you know exactly Who is Who, or even Who is What, It is far more enjoyable knowing the background of each delicious character. I loved this book as much as i loved every other book in this series and i really want to visit Blackthorn (Not on my own of course, its a scary place). I started this book meaning to read for an hour, Well, that didn't work! Nothing got done in my house and no one got fed and when i finally looked up it was 2am.
This book was exciting from start to finish, Although it is the story of Task and Phia, all the other characters play a large role in the events that unfold. This is not a cutesy vampire/werewolf romance book, I really have to stress that, Its too fierce, too exciting, too enthralling and captivating to call it just a romance, You really feel you are there, in Blackthorn, amongst it. I actually cried when Task had to kill a member of his pack.
The book does not end on a cliffhanger but leaves with unresolved issues which was fine as it let us know who is going to front the next book, Caleb, Omg i cant wait!
Blood Instinct is the sixth book in the Blackthorn series and primarily continues Sophia McKay and Jask Tao's story, characters from the previous books in the series are brought in. I would definitely recommend reading this series in order, as Pryor has built a magnificent and complex world, with amazing and in depth characters that can only be enjoyed if followed from the outset.
Phia and Jask's story began in Blood Torn (book#3) and i was so happy when i heard this was going to be their book. I loved Blood Instinct, as I'd expect from Pryor, it had a complex and intricate story that had me hooked from the very beginning. There were so many twists and turns and i could not put it down, i always wanted to read just one more page! Every book in the series gives more information on what is going on in the world of Blackthorn, and although it answers some questions, will always leave some unanswered as it builds for its epic series conclusion in a couple of books time.
Blood Instinct is full of action, suspense, intrigue, and romance. Its a great addition to what is a must read series. I am counting down the days until the next book is released!
An ARC of Blood Instinct was kindly provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Unbelievable! I am totally at a lost for words. How is it possible for this series to get better and better? Blood Instinct is dark and edgy with a building of tension so thick and palpable that I found myself tense with anticipation. There's so many twists and turns with every page that I could not put the book down. Jask is one sexy Alpha wolf!! This is one of the best series I have ever read!
Another fantastic installment of the Blackthorn series. Lindsay weaves a story that grabs you till the end. But you cant miss the chemistry between Jask and Phia. Its raw and emotional and the struggle to survive is real. Brilliant!
Finally, I can return to Blackthorn and catch up with what evil is being done and how my heroes are countering it. Yes, there are some ongoing series that I completely look forward to the next peek into their world with longing and a bit of fear of what is to come. What you, the reader, needs to know right up front – this is not a standalone story – it’s not a sweet romance between a couple different species that will end up riding off into the sunset – there are no true beautiful sunsets in Blackthorn. If you have not yet read the earlier books in this series I highly recommend, no scratch that, I beg you to go to the beginning and read this series from the very first glimpse of this amazing world. It will not be a waste of your time for you will find yourself deeply embedded in the lives of all the characters, good and bad, that make up this richly detailed series.
In Blood Instinct we will again be following Jask and Phia’s continuing love story as things turn darker, war is close at hand and secrets not shared could be the death of a dream. We will also run into all of our favorite characters, in one manner or another, who inhabit this dark, dangerous world.
If you’re looking for a review that will give you tons of spoilers, or worse, tell you the entire story so you don’t have to read this book… nuh nuh, ain’t gonna happen. I’m certain, if that is what you truly want there are lots of them scattered around. But not here.
This is an intriguing, dark story with twists and turns that make you think you’re navigating the back alleys of Blackthorn – and maybe you are. Up is down, left is right… and nothing is quite what it seems. Secrets, lies and danger are rampant and just when you believe it’s safe… guess again. There will be nails bitten to the quick, tears shed and perhaps a good shot of whiskey might help at some points – but you will never be bored.
If you enjoy dark paranormal tales, then the world of Blackthorn is where you’ll want to visit with the latest novel in this series, Blood Instinct. I don’t think I could recommend this story or this series highly enough. Once you’ve stepped into Blackthorn you’re hooked for life.
*I received an e-ARC of Blood Instinct from the publisher, Bookouture and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
Clear your diary, ignore your phone, lock the door and open a really decent bottle of wine so you can settle in for this truly excellent read. Once you pick up Blood Instinct, it is impossible to put down.
This is the eagerly awaited sixth instalment of the Blackthorn series, with another two more books to conclude the story. The story picks up where Blood Dark left off, so you definitely need to read the other Blackthorn books, preferably in order, in order to appreciate the overall build of the over riding plot and to appreciate the atmosphere and suspense that is so prevalent in this series.
I am trying to be spoiler free here, so apologies for vagueness...Blood Instinct throws us into Jask's and Sophia's world, and their problems in this gritty dark world, where bad people get away with doing terrible things, and good does not always prevail. Having read many, many PNR books over the years, I commend Lindsay J Pryor for her adult writing style, her complex plot twists and flawed characters. She takes shades of grey to a whole new level, and i love that. I mean, who really is perfect out there? Do we always make the correct decision? Her characters make mistakes, which is what makes this series so addictive, and her characters more "human" in this dark and gritty world.
The plot builds slowly initially in order to heighten tension in the characters' relationships, and then really picks up pace all the way through to the epilogue. Whilst I had anticipated some of the plot twists incorporated in this book ( rare - I never get predictions right!), as well as some of the emotional downturns which took place, this did not detract at all from the tension and shock as the book developed.
Lindsay, I loved the epilogue. It gave me a tremendous feeling of satisfaction, hoping that for once, someone would get their comeuppance. Although, this is Blackthorn, so you never really know...I cant wait until Blood Bound (aka Kinkyfest), its going to be a really long six months before I get my angel and wing fix. I cant wait. Thank you so much for writing this series. Its adult, it's well written, beautifully edited and, most importantly, a fantastic read. I hope the rest of you enjoy this as much as I have.
Really enjoying this series. Captivates your attention and makes you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. Looking forward to reading the next book!
I say it every time a new book in this series comes out, and I will say it again for this one. Wow wow wow, she has done it again! Not only has the author given us a book which grabs your attention straight away, she is drawing everything and everyone together towards a conclusion I cannot wait to read.
This is book 6 in the series and you must read the series in order to understand what is going on. If you haven't already read this series, and are a fan of paranormal books, I have just one question for you. Why haven't you read this series yet??!!
Each book which comes out brings us more information on what is happening in Blackthorn. This one is no exception. Although this is primarily Jask and Phia's continuing story, as with book 5 the author is bringing the characters together as most find themselves working together to try and sort out the mess caused by those trying to bring down all the species within Blackthorn.
The book is full of action, intrigue, secrets and lies. It grabs your attention immediately and will not let you go until you are screaming for the author to hurry up and bring us the next one! Well, at least it will if you are anything like me. My heart was in my mouth near the end as I was trying to second guess what the author was going to do. There are still a lot of questions to be answered by the end too.
This author is a huge favourite of mine, and the series is right at the top of my all time favourite book series ever. I can't wait for the next part, but at the same time I don't want to think about what will happen when the series comes to an end.
Highly recommended book for fans of the author, and highly recommended series for anyone looking for some long reading days and nights.
Huge thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
5* because Blood Instinct is a compelling read of the type where you lament that you can’t read faster. That just when you believe that great, that’s another hurdle Sophie and/or Jask have cleared safely and you can relax a little, another immediately pops up, trips you, and sends you sprawling back into their turmoil. Not that the reader is left breathless and punch-drunk, Ms Pryor’s skill allows you to draw breath unawares, while at the same time driving you crazy with the ‘what next’, where every ‘what next’ is fresh and different.
Expect a rollercoaster experience of emotional ups, downs, loops and thrills—‘cos that about sums up Jask and Sophia’s relationship. Expect to feel indignant, expect to feel fearful, expect the shocking, but above all expect to be impressed by the resilience of the characters, and not just Jask and Sophia. On many levels an astounding read which will leave you prickling because the next title in the Blackthorn series is not yet available (but will be soon, I very much hope).
One caveat however, to fully enjoy (understand) Blood Instinct, the characters, the enormity of the threat, the politics, the struggle, the tragedy and the victory, you will need to have read the previous titles in the Blackthorn series—no hardship, I can assure you, and very much a sound investment, because these are titles that you will read again…and again, so clear some space on your bookshelves.
From the very first page, Blood Instinct held me captive as I was pulled willingly into Blackthorns embrace.
This incredibly complex book takes us back to Jask and Sophia. With Jask and his pack facing a blue moon that is trying to reveal the lycan in them; Sophia striving to control the darkness of the serryn inside her and a threat to Blackthorn that could destroy everyone they love; I began reading Blood Instinct thinking it couldn't get worse for my favourite characters. Oh how naive I was.
Lindsay J Pryor expertly weaves intricate plot lines that will not only take you to the edge of what you think you can handle, but hold you there, captivated yet afraid to look down.
Blood Instinct takes Blackthorn to a whole new level, testing it's residents to their breaking point.
Anything is possible
No one is safe
Everyone is vital in determining the future of Blackthorn.
I received this as an arc from net galley in exchange for an honest review. Sophia Mckay had always had a reckless streak, but falling for Lycan leader Jask Tac, gave her something to live for. Wow. Absolutely fantastic read. CNPID. I loved the story and the characters. Phia and Jask were my favourite characters. I absolutely love this series. Had me gripped from start to finish. Wow. Didn't expect that. I loved the ending too. Can't wait for next part. This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. Definitely worth more than 5 *.
Wow! What can I say? This series... It just gets better and better! And this book! Amazing! Brilliantly plotted! Compelling and addictive. I could not put it down. I really admire the spectacular world the author has created. Intricately detailed and absolutely absorbing, each book, in my opinion better than the last and leaving the reader wanting more. I am addicted to this series and don't quite know what i will do when it is finished. Just the thought that it will end soon upsets me. But the good news is there are more books coming and I cannot wait. A series I highly recommend.
Amazing! I re-read all of the Blackthorn series in one go to reach this new book. It was an immersion to Ms Pryor's world so deep that I just couldn't not empathise for our heroes. All of them, because that's what I like most in the author's style. The different points of view at certain points that keeps you on edge cause you know... and your heroes don't. And you hold your breath page by page..
Feinith you bitch you'll get what you deserve. Hope it's serryn blood what kills you.
Following a series means following an author through a long journey of many books. In order to hold us spellbound the writer needs to work very hard to keep each book exciting, different yet with strong continuity, fresh, carefully constructed so that readers don’t need to scramble back a few books to understand what is happening, and above all not fall into the trap of repetition and maintain their flowing writing style.
I have been a fan of Blackthorn from the very first book and not once has the writer let me down in all of the above. Blood Instinct is just as captivating as its predecessors. Each book builds on the one before rather than competing and the reader benefits by an enrichment of characters and events. With it comes more than a fair share of emotional rollercoaster rides to deflect our focus and keep us on the edge. Even minor characters have an important role to play. They are someone’s family member regardless of the non-human traits. The feeling they evoke both in the present, Jake, and in the past Arana, show Blackthorn inhabitants to have a strong sense of family loyalty proving differences are not true indicators of who and what we are in the humanity stakes. The black hole that comes with loss is shown with insight and sensitivity, ironic because these are brutal creatures ready to tear enemies apart without hesitation or remorse.
Our connection with each couple in each book without losing sight of the whole picture is completely enthralling and incredibly impossible yet it exists . For me who has not been the biggest fan of Jask to be so swept up in his anger, need to protect, and love has been quite a revelation. The tension between Jask and Phia both good and bad as they struggle with their inner demons has almost won me over from Kane and Caitlin, almost but not quite. It is such a swirling mass of mixed emotions that I hated having to come to an end so soon without the survival kit of a waiting next book.
Beautifully written with dark and light balanced touches in atmosphere for maximum effect, good and evil are drawn together in what is essentially a story of people trying the best they can in terrible circumstances to live good lives and realising changes can only happen when they band together. What a complex world and what a wonderful blend of turbulence at all levels as we feel the build to the climax. Who will be there at the end? I don’t want to think about but am sure there will be plenty of twists and heart-wrenching turns.
Tick Tock!!!! 5***** Awesomeness WOW!! The countdown has well and truly begun for this amazing series. I recommend you start at the beginning as this is book six. This series has had its claws into me for the last few years and I absolutely love it more with each new book. This book focuses on the Lycan Leader Jask Tao and his mate Phia. Well what can I say Jask has always been my favourite from book 1 so this being his second book had me all kinds of excited I can tell you. Jask is all you expect from an Alpha he's oozes confidence and his strength of character amazes me. I don't want to spoil for anyone what happened but I will say what he did in certain parts of this book just cemented how much I adore this man. I literally had to reread parts as I went to take them in. Jask showed just what it takes to be a leader, it's not an easy job but that's what being Alpha entails. He does what's needed of him for the good of his pack no matter what. This book had twists and turn all the way. You never know exactly what's going to happen untill it's upon you. The emotional rollercoaster I went through was insane. I loved it all.. the tears, angst, humour, fear and not forgetting the dirty talking Alpha had my head spinning. Blackthorn is one of my favourite PNR series to read, it's in a league of its own. You can completely loose yourself whilst reading these book, get so engrossed in the characters and story that time literally ceases to exsist. That for me is the mark of a really fantastic series. This book blew me away, I love the interaction between all the characters. Even though it was mainly focused on Jask and Phia the presence of all the major Blackthorn members was strong so you still felt connected to them throughout. Not just with this book but with all the books. That connection between the characters is there. The gloves well and truly came off in this book, more truths being revealed, bonds growing stronger, strategic plans put together and friendships cemented all for the good of Blackthorn. The ending really left me wanting more, Hopefully what goes around comes around for certain people. At least I hope so. Thank you so much Lindsay J Pryor for helping me escape reality for a while. I love this series and your writing style so much. You are a Genius and the Paranormal world wouldn't be the same without you. Can't wait until the next instalment.
