Chicago cop Brendan Donovan loves the adrenaline rush of his role on a tactical team. So when he's assigned to an undercover job to ferret out the supplier of a new and deadly sex drug, he's thrilled. His partner is Cilla Marini, a detective he'd met recently during a traffic stop. He's intrigued by Cilla, but his sister told him that Cilla doesn't date cops. Which is exactly what they have to pretend to do. Brendan loves a challenge.

Cilla is shocked to find out that Brendan is her mystery partner. After an incident that forced her to transfer from her district and isolated her from her fellow cops, Cilla knows relationships with cops are off the table. But she's spent far too much time thinking about Brendan since he pulled her over for speeding. Now, not only are they working together, they have to pose as a couple to find the source of the sex drug that's already killed several men.

As the action heats up, Cilla and Brendan don't have to pretend they want each other. But when secrets put them both in danger, will they have each other's back? Or will their quarry divide and conquer them before they can find their way to happily ever after?

5.0 STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL STARS!!!

"A partnership is like a marriage, you know? Sometimes it's the pairs who are the least alike that do the best."

Wow this book! I never really expected this. I was so in awe and I feel like I was so ashamed over something. I mean I felt really left off, If I haven't been given an e.copy I wouldn't know a beautiful story from Margaret Watson existed and that from the fact that I love romance books. What a shame!

Brendan and Cilla is just fun to read. I love these characters. Cilla...this heroine is worth loving. A tough brilliant cop. So cool.I love how bad ass she is but with a soft heart. Her role in their family is so relatable it feels real. I love how she keeps things in order...fixing everything even if it means she wanted the opposite. All she really wants besides a happy career is someone in her life . Someone to come home to at night. Someone to share her burdens with. Someone who could share his burdens with her. Then entered Brendan Donovan,He lived to go undercover. A wild man. Adrenaline junkie. The only Donovan brother still available. A playah. His partner in an undercover op who happened to be that person who will break her rules. Not to date a cop...because her reasons?

They don't make good husbands. They'd rather hang at a bar with their cop buddies than come home to a wife and kids. They cheat.

And Brendan Donovan?
He's 'love 'em and leave 'em Donovan' was legendary. He didn't do 'serious'.

But their chemistry is just so strong. The sexual tension and the attraction is undeniable. Said she's fine with it...but when all hell break loose and secrets unfold..what they have was tested...

"Don't throw away a good thing, Marini, just because you disagree about a few things."

Truly, what I just read is stunningly beautiful. This is my first book of the author but I am in love with her writing skills, the plot, the story line and most of all the characters. I haven't had any dull moments reading Brendan and Cilla's story. This is bad ass!! This is what you call a romance with a twist of suspense and swoon plus steamy overload making your panties soaked but adrenaline rush kept going and your mind kept on solving mysteries and puzzles. Hella perfectly written and mind boggling and at the same time heart leaping and tummy quivering. Wowza factor to the zenith and this from the fact that it's not that heavy of a read. Once you get your hands on it, everything flows smoothly to the fact that time flies by you forget everything because you were pulled into it. Hooked.Invested. Yeah I was like that reading this book.

This is a must read!

This is another great story in the Donovan family series. Brendan is the last brother to hold on to his play boy single status. The rest of the family teases him, but he gives as good as he gets. What the family doesn't know is that most of Brendan's actions are bravado--trying to live up to who he thinks they want him to be.

Brendan is reckless and carefree. This makes him excel at undercover work. He meets his next partner initially as he pulls her over for speeding. He immediately takes notice. Cilla has a rull about "no Cops". so she writes him off. As they are thrown together undercover, they take pretending to be interested in each other to academy award winning levels.

Cilla and Brendan each have so many layers to them. They have protected their hearts for so long. When they can't fight the attraction any longer, they cross all the lines each has laid down. Their feelings come into play and then of course, things always go off the charts in directions only the author can imagine!

I am completely hooked on this author! I am not usually into this genre, but Margaret has made me a fan. I bow to her skills as an author. Thank you for bringing us the Donovan family along with all the anxious feels associated with fighting the bad guys. I am a fan!

Brendan Donovan is a cop and loves the adrenaline rush. There is a drug out there that is killing people and Brendan is put undercover to find out who is distributing it. He has a new partner, Cilla Marini. He pulled her over recently for speeding because he didn’t know she was a cop at the time. Cilla was involved in an incident that caused her to be transferred to another district and alone among her peers. Cilla has a rule, she doesn’t date cops and that’s what her and Brendan’s cover will be. The attraction is strong and “ pretend “ dating won’t be a problem as long as she keeps her heart to herself. Brendan is a player and has no intention of settling down. Will they catch the bad guys and find out who is putting the pills on the street?
This was an awesome story. A little angst. Sex. Mystery. I couldn’t put it down. It had me hooked from the very first page. Cilla is a fixer, the one everyone goes to for their problems. Brendan loves the rush he gets from being a cop but it could cost him something he didn’t even know he wanted.

Loved the family dynamics

Two cops from different precincts end up undercover searching for the source of a killer sex drug. At first the focus is very vague. The sex drug or the dirty cops. Eventually the two cases overlap, but the indecision carries over into the characters. Cilla, broke the code of blue silence and has been frozen out. She is careful with letting people in and prefers to be the fixer. Bren is a hotshot cop, with a family legacy to uphold.
Both of these characters are very annoying. They have no idea how to be partners, or even communicate. Cilla doesn't acknowledge how she feels until she realizes Bren is running scared.
The indecision grates after awhile since the story very much revolves around these two.
I gave it a two because their waffling made for very slow moments in the story.

Brendan Donovan and Cilla Marini, both detectives with the Chicago PD, are working as partners for the first (and possibly only) time on an undercover job to find who it is responsible for the recent spate of deaths caused by an illegal sex drug. They’re both loners, Brendan by choice, Cilla by circumstance, in this engaging tale filled with intrigue, excitement, strong emotions, and passion. It is sure to draw you in and hold your interest, keeping you involved from start to finish, whether it’s in the intense action or suspenseful drama or compelling feelings you’ll experience on every page. You’ll find plenty of enjoyment and entertainment within this story, making it a good addition to a wonderful series.

I haven't really been in the mood for romance novels as of late, but this book was exactly what I needed! Sure, Cover Me was about cops finding the bad guys, but on a much deeper level, it was about exposing our true selves and figuring out if we have enough to love someone else, too. This was a well-developed plot with a lot of side stories in the mix. With a cleaner edit, this would be a great novel for anyone who needs a little romance and mystery at the same time.

I didn't like the first part of this book, as the male lead seemed quite entitled and a bit creepy. I kept reading because I was interested in the case they were working on, which wasn't predictable like I thought it was going to be, and there was quite a bit of action too. By the end, I liked both the main characters, which I think readers were supposed to from the beginning.

I'm slowly working my way through this series and loving each book along the way. Watson draws some very real people along with all their flaws and insecurities. The editing isn't the cleanest, but the spices have caused my Kindle to overheat. Got a new one coming though because I haven't finished this series yet.

Twists and turns

You won't know what's around the corner in this book. Nobody is who they say they are!
Lots of miscommunication that causes issues too. Put all that on two damaged cops and you end up with a mess.

Never in my life have I been happier to turn the last page of a book and find out that there are more in the series! This book was addictive. Sure, there was a really cute romance aspect, but there was a whole lot more to it than that. There was action. There was mystery. There was character growth. Pretty much everything I love in a book, all rolled up in one pretty package. I did come very close to taking off a half point on this review, but it wasn’t because of the quality of the writing or because of the story line. I absolutely love this author’s writing style and, with the exception of a few very minor continuity issues, the story was incredibly easy to follow, which made it equally as easy to get lost in. The half point it almost lost was due to an unexpected triggering scene that involved an attempted rape. It was, however, totally necessary to the story and continued to feed into the growth of characters and relationships. That just happens to be a very sensitive topic and I prefer a warning of some sort if I’m going to encounter something like that in a novel.

It’s been a while since I’ve given you guys a really beefy review, but I feel like this book pretty much demands one. So let’s start with the characters. The lead characters, Cilla and Braden, are extremely realistic. They’re flawed, but not overly so. They’ve had life experiences that taught them to be the people they are. Essentially, they have that quality that makes them people rather than just characters. As far as I’m concerned, there could be a Cilla and Brandon living in any city in the world, and I seriously hope that’s the case because the world needs people like them. Damaged as they might be, they’re both brave in different ways. My very favorite part of the two of them, though, is the way that they both grow throughout the story. Sure, they fall back and make mistakes. They regress. But that’s how life works, isn’t it? We can’t all be at the top of our game all the time. I do appreciate, though, that when the characters did stumble, they didn’t stay down and they didn’t do it repeatedly. At some point, that could become redundant, but that was certainly not the case in this story. They took their licks and they learned from them.

The minor characters were just as interesting, which is a large part of the reason I was excited to see a series. Both Cilla and Braden have siblings that are important to their lives, and their families are captivating, honestly. I loved exploring the relationships each of them had with their siblings and I would absolutely love the chance to learn more about those characters and what makes them tick.

I’ve read a few books lately that included characters who were cops, but this one is probably my favorite. Not all of the characters work for the police force, but pretty much all of them are somehow in the legal system, and it’s cool to see that from the inside. I also really love the level of honesty the author approached the subject with. We all know that police work isn’t easy, but to see these characters go through the anxiety, adrenaline rush, burnout, and exhaustion that can come along with it can be very eye opening. As I’ve mentioned before, I have a brother who works for the police academy. He hasn’t always worked there, though, and I’ve seen him move through some of the same experiences and emotions that these characters dealt with. For me, this story is very true to life. I also love the fact that, though they are involved in the legal system, none of these characters are invincible. They find themselves in precarious situations, make impulsive decisions, and things don’t always work out for them. They’re real in a way that a lot of police-type characters aren’t.

Despite the discomfort that came along with the one triggering scene I mentioned earlier, this book was absolutely wonderful. The level of growth that both Cilla and Braden experienced was incredible and very well written. They did not become completely different people, but they learned to adjust to the events in their lives. Their relationship with one another grew just as beautifully. I loved every aspect of this story. I can’t wait to grab the other books in the series!

Review:

My bad. This is the fifth book of the Donovan series and I read it first. It is okay, These all seem to be stand alone novels. Sure I may have know who the other family members were in more detail, but it did not affect the story at all. Loved this book. Excitement, drama, suspense, romance, and a little sex. Yup this was a keeper and now I need to start at the beginning and savor the others. Cover me is going to be hard to beat.

The plot of this story focuses on the youngest brother of The Donovan Family, Brendan. The adrenalin junkie with a hard shell and a secret passion. He is paired up with Detective Cilla Marini on an undercover assignment posing as a romantic couple for an illegal drug sting. Things get a little crazy when the lines between undercover and real life blend together.
Chemistry is noticeable during the first chapter and just keeps on getting hotter with every chapter.
This is a fast action with full of drama and quite a few twists.
The ending, hmmm not giving anything away here. You need to go read this book.
Great character development. Now I have to go read about the rest of the Donovans.

“She wound her arm around Brendan’s waist and burrowed closer. His muscles were solid against her side. His skin was warm through his shirt.”

5 stars! After reading the precious books in the series, this is by far my favorite one!

Brendan has always been a thrill seeker and with his job as a cop on the tactical team, he’s met with thrills daily. He’s given an opportunity to go undercover to find the supplier of a new sex drug. He’s partnered up with Cilla and he’s enamoured. Unfortunately for him, Cilla doesn’t date cops. But with their new task they are forced to pretend to date. And although she want to abide by her no dating cops rule, she can’t help but think about Brendan constantly. The more they pretend they are together, the more they start to fall for each other, which is where the passion starts to ignite. Too bad secrets start bubbling to the surface which could threaten everything they’ve uncovered.

I swear every Donovan I read about I fall in love with and now with Brendan it’s no different! I love the heat that flames out of this book. The passion and romance in this book is out of control and dangerously hot! I’m addicted to this series!

"A partnership is like a marriage, you know? Sometimes it's the pairs who are the least alike that do the best."

The first book I've read by Margaret Watson, I was immediately struck by how excellent and fluid the writing was, weaving this mystery that, even without the romantic subplot, was interesting in itself. This is one novel which I didn't guess the outcome of before the big reveals, which is a nice surprise. What I found particularly intriguing was that Watson managed to string together several different plots, from hostage situations to shootings, whilst ensuring that it all felt relevant to the overall storyline, whether for relationship, character or plot progression.

Indian summer felt like spring, the warm air and sunshine promising new beginnings, but it was really an ending. A lead-in to a cold, dark, lonely, winter.

Cilla and Brendan's reactions in the aftermath of stressful events were also something I don't tend to read much of; the need to feel alive as a justification for acting like adolescent fuckwads and adrenaline junkies (and, as I was so wrapped up in the story, it felt like a good enough justification for me). Similarly, their relationship progression, although having a dose of sickening insta-love to begin with, had enough angst that wasn't forced but reminded myself of how a normal person may react when faced with those particular circumstances - which is again a pleasant change.

The main criticism I have (aside from the final third of the novel needing a little more thorough proof-reading) is that although I know a lot about these characters' histories, and their hopes and dreams, I was still left feeling a little cold towards them. Cilla was strong and independent, and I loved her refusal to be labelled a victim. But aside from that, neither really gripped me and made me care all that much, or give me an emotional attachment to the novel.

He pressed his mouth to hers and kissed her hard. As if he'd been holding it inside too long and the need to claim her was too much to contain.

Overall, a highly enjoyable mystery/suspense/romance which, despite its occasionally cheesy nature, has gripped me enough to want to read the others in the series.

When Margaret Watson reached out to me to review Cover Me, I was more than happy to jump back into my love of reading and enjoyment of reviewing after having my first child. I swear, I've been reading so many parenting books and on Mommy Blogs by brain NEEDED this like my cup needs another refill of coffee. Although I never read books out of order, I didn't do any research other than reading the blurb emailed to me and easily decided that Cover Me was exactly what I needed to get over my new Mama reading slump.

Brendan is a super hot alpha cop, who, of course, happens to have a soft heart. He is dripping with seduction and humor but is also intelligent, obviously good at his job and very direct. I enjoyed Brendan's character in this story - the way his mind worked and the honesty in his communication. He was the perfect combination of smoldering yum (yup, that's now verb - he's a "yum") while still maintaining a sense of realness that most characters are unable to achieve. I loved his undercover job too! Just made him that much more well-rounded.

Cilla is a strong character. She is in "charge" of it all - family, job, self. However, this is also her biggest struggle. Maintaining her control in an environment that feels so out of her control. Her libido and heart start to tangle together with a police officer who has the worst reputation of them all. She's not kidding herself, she isn't trying to "change" him, she just needs to separate church and state here...and if church is Brendan then I may want to start attending those sermons affective immediately! Cilla attended, attempted to abstain, and then went back...a few times.

I read this book in two sittings. It was an easy-to-follow read with characters who were relatable and a storyline that remained interesting to the end. The relationship building was appropriate, albeit frustrating in moments when Cilla refused the direct chemistry however that did not deter nor last long in the story line which I appreciated. The subplots were equally entertaining! I had no idea that I was reading the 5th in a series and Cover Me was absolutely a stand alone book. Ultimately, I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone wanting a sexy, dynamic read that is a consistent page turner. I am so thankful that Margaret popped my after-birth novel-loving cherry.

I cannot express enough how much I loved “Cover Me,” book 5 in The Donovan Family series! This was my first time reading anything by Margaret Watson, but you don’t have to have read any of the previous installments in this series prior to reading this one. Brendan and Cilla are paired together to work undercover on a deadly sex drug case. Brendan is a hot cop that never gets serious with women and Cilla has a strict rule about not dating cops. But when they have to pretend to be a couple while working undercover, they both get to the point where they can’t resist each other. Besides fighting growing feelings for one another, they also have to learn to trust each other and work together as partners.

This is an absolutely fabulous novel with a perfect blend of mystery, suspense, and romance. Brendan and Cilla are hot, sexy, and smart cops that are afraid of relationships. They both have their own hard and soft sides, surprising you how quickly they can flip back and forth. Then there are deadly sex drugs being sold and killing people all over Chicago. Mix that with bad cops, hostage situations, and complete twists and turns – you get a killer novel that you won’t be able to put down. There are a lot of secondary characters including family, good cops, potential bad cops, attorneys, and sleazy judges. Watson’s writing gives you a perfect picture of this secondary characters without weighing you down with too much side information. While the romantic part of the plot was somewhat predictable, the rest of the novel had me on the edge of my seat and provided several surprises. The people I thought were going to be the “bad guys” weren’t, and people I thought were innocent weren’t always what they seemed to be.

I can’t recommend this novel enough for anyone who loves romantic suspense novels. There is truly nothing negative that I can say about this book or about Margaret Watson’s writing. Now if only she will send me more of the series to read, I will be a very happy girl!

**4.5 Fiery Hearts!**

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Brendan is an act first ask questions later kind of guy. He's spontaneous, which as a cop isn't always a good thing, but that doesn't keep him from being a damned good cop. His instincts are usually spot on...except when it comes to his own emotions.

Cilla isn't used to working with a partner, but when her mystery partner on a new undercover job is the same cop who pulled her over for speeding she's both cautious and tempted. Her new role as Brendan's girlfriend has a lot of benefits, I mean who wouldn't want to be manhandled by that sexy cop, but at the same time its hard to tell what's real and what's just for show.

"Okay. You going to make a move on me tonight?"

"You looking forward to it?"

She flushed. "Just want to be prepared. So I can practice my stupidly smitten expression."

Their physical chemistry is off the charts, but both have emotional boundaries that keep them from living up to the full partner potential.

In Cover Me there are so many twists that overlap and spread out in different directions that there's never a dull moment. There was only one slightly loose end, which tells you what should happen, but not if it actually happened or not. Besides that I think Brendan might be my favorite Donovan brother so far.

My Favorite Moment: The banter between Brendan and Cilla is crazy funny at times. I swear they live to screw with each other.

"I'll get it out of you in the morning."

She cocked an eyebrow. "I'd much rather you get it into me in the morning."

Brendan is the last single Donovan brother (the others found love in books two, three, and four) and love is the last thing he is looking for when he stops a speeding car driven by detective Cilla Marini. These two end up working undercover together, searching for the person behind a deadly drug responsible for the deaths of five men.

I love this series about the Donovan family and book five, Cover Me, is another excellent read. This book, like the others, draws you in and doesn't let go. The writing is so, so good, with great characters and a well-thought-out storyline. The chemistry between Brendan and Cilla is off the charts and the romance is smoking hot. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I was provided with a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This was another great addition to the Donovan series. I really liked Cilla. She was a strong, independent character who realizes that it's ok to ask others for help. Brendan, like all the Donovan's, has a heart of gold beneath his playboy persona. They worked well together as not only partners on their case, but as a couple as well.

The book was filled with suspense and it keeps you wondering who are actually the criminals up to the end, which I enjoyed.

I did have to deduct a star because there were some grammatical errors (such as no closing parentheses when a character was done speaking), but it wasn't enough to take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. It's definitely worth reading.

Heartthrob Chicago Cop Brendan Donovan loves the rush being a cop gives him, So when he is assigned to an undercover job to find the supplier of a deadly new sex drug, he is only too happy. Partnered with fellow cop Cilla Marini they must pose as a couple to find the source of the drug that has already killed several men. But as the action heats up, Brendan and Cilla don't have to pretend they want each other?

A fast paced ride with plenty of action, on the pages, Brendan and Cilla are not without their drama but the sexual chemistry between these two is undeniable.

A romance novel with a bit of suspense with plenty of twists and steamy scenes. I'll never eat or look at a cupcake the same way again!!!!

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This was a really good book. I am definitely going to read the series starting at book one. Brendan was a hot cop with a little alpha in him and alot of kindness. I loved Cilla she was tough and smart. The characters went really well together and the story line was well written. It had enough suspense to keep you guessing and the sexual tension between Brendan & Cillia was really hot, the sex scenes where tastefully done, just enough to keep it hot. This the first book I've read from this author, I will definitely be reading more.Check it out you won't be disappointed.

Excellently written continuation of the Donovan Family series!

Brendan’s story is just as wonderful as the others in this series. The characters are well developed, the action intense, the chemistry between Brendan and Priscilla combustible and the story line of two cops going undercover (in more ways than one) a treat to read.

Thank you to the author for sending me this book to read and review. I look forward to finding out what will happen to the NEXT member of the Donovan family when his or her story is told!

Cilla Marini, hostage negotiator, has a rule. She doesn't date cops, ever. Brendan Donovan was intrigued by Cilla from the first moment he laid eyes on her after he pulled her over for speeding. When they get paired to go under cover to figure out a drug ring, they have to pose as a couple. Will their pretending turn into real feelings?

I really like this series. This book is so good. It's super hot chemistry, lots of suspense, and I didn't figure it out til the end was spelled out for me. A highly recommended read!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I love the Donovan Series. How this writer can continue to put out a great book and each one different and unique is beyond me. With each book of the series it just gets better and better. I love how she breaks down the strengths and weaknesses and just knocks them through the roof. Great characters and storyline it just flows from one book to the next.
